Breakfast Included at The Julian Cafe & Bakery! The Julian Cafe Family Cottage is a perfect family cabin nestled amongst the trees remodeled with modern amenities. Located one mile away from the town of Julian. The Julian Cafe Family cottage is the perfect place to unwind, stargaze at night, or just take in the fresh air!

Located one mile from downtown Julian. Equipped with a fully stocked kitchen, one private bedroom and one open den with a twin over full bunk bed. The bathroom is fully stocked with amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The living room has generously sized TV with starlink wifi. This house is designed with a country cottage feel but equipped with modern amenities. Enjoy sitting on your private patio with a glass of wine, while the kids play uno!

You will have the entire cottage to yourself, with access being sent prior to check in. There are about six steps leading up to the cabins so unfortunately we are not ADA accessible.

Parking is available in front of the cottages. If both cottages are being rented at the same time, please be mindful not to park in the middle of the driveway. If parked accordingly there is parking for four cars, so it should never be a problem.

You will be given a voucher once checked in towards breakfast, lunch, dinner or a whole pie at the Julian Cafe and Bakery located at 2112 Main St. The Julian Cafe does not accept reservation; however, you can call them (the phone number is on the back of your voucher) and add your name to the waiting list. Important to know, if you are wanting breakfast, YOU MUST BE SEATED BY 11:30am. If you do not make it in time for breakfast, no worries, your vouchers are still good towards lunch, dinner or a whole apple pie!

For reservations between NOV through MAR/APR, please ensure your vehicle carries snow chains in the event that your reservation dates coincide with a winter storm event (it’s helpful to keep an eye on the weather forecast in advance of your trip as well). During active snowfall, chains are required to traverse snowy mountain roads safely, and traffic officials will not allow passage to those without them, so please prepare accordingly!

Julian is a rural community in the mountains where wildlife abounds. While do our *absolute best* to keep the pests at bay at the cottage, please keep in mind that critters and insects come with the territory here.

THE FOREST
Our small treehouse Cabin opens to the outdoors for views and direct exposure to the forest. This exposure to nature provides a wonderful inspirational relaxing effect. Japanese call it 'Shinrin-Yoku' which translates to 'forest bathing'. The idea is simple: If a person visits a natural area and walks in a relaxed way, there are calming, rejuvenating and restorative benefits to be achieved. Studies have documented reduced stress, lower blood sugar, better concentration, diminished pain, improved immunity...

Taking in this forest atmosphere has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine. a. Getting to our cabin requires a two (2) minute walk from parking area to Cabin.
b. There's a beautiful meandering staircase from parking area up to cabin. We recommend this retreat for guests who can walk 90 stair-steps to arrive at the front door of Cabin (see photos). You may also walk the "Hidden trail" as an alternative pathway up to the Cottage.
c. Cottage is approximately 38-42 feet elevation above parking area.
d. Walkways have handrails for those in need.

Parking area is limited to a MAXIMUM OF THREE (3) CARS. NO PARKING ON NEARBY STREET.

The home is well stocked with everything you could possibly need to prepare dinners, play games or just relax. We did a lot of all three!! My favorite part of the home is the large back deck that has an incredible view. And of course, the tall ceilings and windows which gives the place a very open, light and spacious feel. The deck is perfect to enjoy a morning cup of coffee and is shaded in the evening for dinners on the family size table. There is also a gas grill with provided propane for a BBQ. We loved being able to stargaze at night. There is one neighbor to the west (right side when looking out) that leaves their back porch light on all night which causes some light pollution, but there is still plenty of darkness to see hundreds of stars. The location is perfect, just two miles from town. Just far enough away to feel isolated, but close enough to make quick trips for dining out, shopping, or to pick up groceries. This is a historical cabin built in the 1950's. It's complete w/ antiques & classic books. It even has a restomod antique phonograph that you can plug your phone into. Trails close by. Walking distance (1.5 mi) to Julian Center. It is very quiet and secluded, with/a beautiful hammock. Full kitchen, claw foot tub, original outhouse w/ Turkey & Deer trails

You have chosen one of Julian's nicest two-bedroom 5-star rated cabins. Built in the 40's and completely upgraded in 2020, this cabin is very secluded & quiet. It's only about 1 mile from downtown Julian. It is a very quiet area too!

Trails are all around & it is very close to Volcan Mountain Preserve, which is an amazing place to visit and hike. The ceramic wood stove gives it a most special ambience.

A wonderful deck with a new patio furniture are outside. Inside are many antiques and historical information about Julian. Washer and dryer in shed for you use if needed.

A high-quality hammock is also in the shed for your enjoyment. It goes between the 2 trees to the left of the shed and faces it.

A Propane BBQ and Firepit are yours to use and enjoy

*NO SMOKING or FIRES - I (we), our guests, agree to not smoke in the house or outside. Any kind of FIRE (fire pits, bbq, fireworks etc) is strictly prohibited outside or inside the property. You could face charges by the county, fined and lose your deposit and/or face additional charges. Breaking this important house rule will result in immediate removal from property.
*Wood stove inside the cabin can only be used with owners permission. We do not provide firewood. Only seasoned wood is allowed to burn, NO duraflame firelog or any other similar starters. *This is a mountain cabin surrounded by trees and nature. Very occasionally one may see ants or spiders. Please keep that in mind when booking.

*If there are high winds or fire danger the electricity can be shut off by the power company which is beyond our control. We do have electrical storage with Tesla power walls which will have a limited amount of power in the event of long outage.
*Our property is located on forty acres and sighting of the wildlife is not unusual. Please be respectful of their habitat, and at the same time be aware of your surroundings, especially during the months of May through September.
*There is one exterior security camera on the property facing the driveway away from the cabin for your safety and ours. There are no recording devices inside the property or anywhere on outdoor amenity spaces.
*This rental is privately owned and the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the property.

YOUR STAY: This lovely family cabin is a perfect getaway for those who love nature. It is a beautiful spot, surrounded by trees. Only one mile from town, even less to a wonderful brewery and several great wineries. Enjoy your coffee or glass of delicious local wine from several seating areas. Both have the sound of water for your pleasure. There is a table and chairs and a waterfall pond. There are lights strung in the tree, making this a great place to BBQ on the gas grille, or just to enjoy the evening. There is a café table and the sound of a fountain with views of Vulcan Mountain. We often see birds, wild turkeys and deer on the property.

THE CABIN: Two bedroom, one bath with 1,200 square feet. Inside is a large living room with plenty of seating to enjoy a nice fire, watch Netflix, Prime or play some of the many board games on hand. The hand made coffee table has a built in checkers board. There is a dinning table for six and in the kitchen a table for four. The kitchen is fully stocked. There is a Keurig on the counter and a regular coffee maker in the cupboard. There is a four piece toaster and a small crock pot, as well as the normal pots and pans. We have a limited supply of coffee and tea for your enjoyment. The front bedroom has a King bed with comfy bedding and pillows. There are reading lights, phone charger and a ceiling fan for your convenience. The back bedroom includes a Queen and Double bed with the same comfy bedding. The bathroom has a combo tub/shower, basic toiletries included, and plush towels. The hall closet contains a variety of board and card games. Coloring books and crayons for the kids. There are even books if anyone wants to enjoy reading around the fire or outside under a tree.

WHAT TO DO: There are many wonderful restaurants, wineries, breweries and cideries around Julian. In the Info Book provided in the cabin, you will find lots of info and recommendations about them. There are some really cute coffee shops as well, and please don’t forget the famous apple pie as you are wandering around town enjoying the quaint stores filled with small town treasures. The hiking is amazing around Julian. Nearby, there are the Vulcan Mountain trailhead and Santa Ysabel East Preserve trailhead. A bit further are the hikes near Cuyamaca, including Stonewall Peak, and Laguna including Desert View Trail, and Big Laguna Trailhead. Julian is also a stop for some of the PCT hikers. Gold mining and gold mining tours are available. Julian is famous for their apples. Apple Days usually start in early fall where you can pick your own or buy from bins of all varieties. In early spring there are hills covered with daffodils and a bit later the lilacs fill the air with their beautiful fragrance. Julian is also certified as a Dark Skies Community and you will see plenty of stars in the night sky.

THE HISTORY: Our family has owned this cabin since 1939. Our Grandpa built it with lots of help from friends and family. It has been added on, redone and refurbished many times. It is filled with some of our family treasures for you to enjoy. We lovingly call it “Granny’s Cabin”, but you will find that it is filled with all the modern necessities.

This is a cozy 300 sq. ft. cabin with wood siding and wood interior. Located on private property with 13 acres of meadows and trees. Although the main house about 100 ft. away, it'smore secluded than the average neighborhood home. It has a comfortable porch and private deck attached. It has an open floor plan with the kitchen, living, and dining area all in one. There is a private bedroom with an adjustable queen size bed to elevate the head and / or foot. This is not split, so both sides of the bed move. The bathroom is private. Although there is a bathtub, please shower only and refrain from taking baths due to our septic system. If you are coming down from the town of Julian, we are the second driveway on the right just past Mom's Pie House in Wynola. We are about 5 miles from the town of Julian going West on Highway 78. When you arrive, keep to the left of the house and follow the road up to the cabin. Please park in the designated parking area. EXITING: When leaving the property, the exit sensor to open the gate is on the left side of the driveway, near the lamp post. Keep your vehicle as close to the left side of the driveway so the exit sensor can detect the metal from the vehicle. There is potential for severe weather or fire events. Winter and Spring months you may need to have 4WD or carry chains. Please check local weather prior to travel. In rare freezing conditions WATER PIPES ARE SUBJECT TO FREEZING. In the event of low temperatures please be prepared to not have running water until mid morning. We recommend showering before bed and setting some water aside for use in the morning. In the event of a power outage, we have a backup generator that will automatically come on after a few seconds - we will ask you to limit power usage should this occur during your stay. This property is on a septic system - DO NOT FLUSH ANYTHING OTHER THAN TP PROVIDED. Julian is a dark sky community; we recommend arriving for the first time during daylight hours to acquaint yourself with the property and surroundings. Please drive safely. The roads are 2 lanes with lots of curves. If you're not able to keep the 55mph speed on the turns, please pull to over to let others pass. You are in the mountains - there are critters, animals, bugs, etc. here! San Diego County TOT Certificate #5-3000101-22. Guest access: You have full access to the cabin and use of the hot tub (see satellite image included in the photos for location of hot tub). We give you complete privacy, and with the privacy acreage, there are no visible neighbors. Enjoy Star Gazing from the hot tub or your own private deck. Julian was named an International Dark Sky Community on May 10, 2021, 1 of 195 worldwide. You may walk up the trail from the parking area near the cabin to a nice viewpoint with a seating area. Perfect for watching the sunsets. Be cautious of loose gravel and the steep incline. This is a high fire danger area, so please be responsible if you smoke. Other things to note: Easy self-check in. This property is located on the highway with a gated entrance. You will be provided an access code to open the gate and the keypad to the cabin previous to arrival. Following the driveway to the left, you will find the cabin behind the main house. PLEASE RESPECT THE FOLLOWING: - Be kind to the septic system. Do not flush anything other than the toilet paper provided. Do not put food or grease down the kitchen drain. Please do not fill the bathtub for bathing, use the shower only. - Smoking: Please do not smoke inside the cabin. If you choose to smoke please sit outside on the patio where receptacles are provided. BEWARE OF FIRE DANGER. Dispose of your butts and ashes safely. Please do not dispose of inside of cabin, please do not use the fire pit table as an ashtray. - If you or your guest wear make-up, please use make-up towels and wipes provided for removal, do not use the white towels for removing make-up. - Do not open patio awning when windy and do not leave it open unattended. - Do not add anything to the hot tub (soap, oils, bubble bath) - Make sure to close and latch the spa cover when finished (if not latched the wind may blow it off). - Replace the cover to the fire pit table and / or gas grill after it is turned off and cooled down. - Turn off the propane tank to the fire pit table and gas grill when finished using. - Quiet hours 10PM - 7AM Check Out: Please remember that your checkout time is at 11:00AM on the day your booking concludes. The cabin is so beautiful inside and outside, the cabin was rebuilt from the fires and is just the most oerfeft spotvto unmind, relax and enjoy nature. We had a beautiful time despite thec100 degree temps. The cabin has one AC unit in front area, keros that area nice and cool, the back bedroom can get a littlecstuffy. Just open the windows to enjoy the beautiful cool night air. The cabin is immaculate, and has all the main items you need. Bring hand siap and anytjing you may like to cook with (spices, salt/pepper, spray pil etc) so that you can cook in this beautiful kitchen. Stop by The Station a little outside Julian or hit all the local spots in tiwn. The Welcome Book in the cabin is sooo helpful and fun to read the history of the csbin. Built in the 1970s, the A-Frame sits in the center of Pinecrest Retreat a vintage trailer park established in 1961. Pinecrest Retreat is located on 80 acres and is home to 140 trailers, a hiking trail, and a junior Olympic size pool opened seasonally (Memorial Day weekend till the end of September). Owners of these trailers cannot live on site but have access to their trailers as a weekend getaway spot. Pinecrest Retreat is about four miles from town and four miles from Lake Cuyamaca.

The A-Frame features a 360-square foot cathedral ceilinged open space with a sitting and dining area. A kitchen with refrigerator/freezer, gas stove & oven, sink, coffee maker, plates & utensils and most of the basics. The A-Frame has a bedroom downstairs with a queen size bed (with twin size trundle in the closet), a full bath, and an open loft upstairs with a king size bed and balcony. We supply fresh linens, blankets, and bath towels. The A-Frame also comes with a stereo and WIFI but no television is provided. There is a large private backyard with a gathering area, a propane grill and Cowboy Calderon fire pit. The listing price also includes access to the pool in the summer months.

THE DARK SKY
Julian is one of two accredited Dark Sky Communities in California, and one in thirty overall. The intention of being a Dark Sky Community is to protect the natural night sky by reducing light pollution. This means that outdoor lighting is carefully designed and controlled to minimize glare and unnecessary brightness. By doing this, we can fully appreciate the awe-inspiring wonders of the night sky, including the stars, constellations, and even the Milky Way! Other than incredible stargazing, having a natural dark sky benefits astronomical research, wildlife preservation and our circadian rhythm. LIGHTING
The Den incorporates dark sky lighting inside the cabin too, which creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere while supporting your circadian rhythm.

The soft illumination creates a sense of intimacy and relaxation, while also allowing your eyes to adjust to the natural darkness outside. It's the perfect setting for unwinding after a long day or spending quality time with loved ones. With the use of dimmers, warm light bulbs and minimal overhead lighting, you control how bright or dim you want the space to be.

One of the best benefits of dark sky lighting at home is how it affects our circadian rhythm, which is our internal body clock that helps regulate our sleep-wake cycle. Now, here's the thing: exposure to bright or blue-rich light in the evening can mess with our circadian rhythm and make it harder to fall asleep.

Bright lights, especially at night, triggers our brain into thinking we should be awake as if it's the middle of the day. Whereas dimly lit, downward facing amber or red lights (similar to a campfire), promote melatonin production which tells our body that it's time to relax and prepare for sleep.

Wake up in the morning naturally with the morning sun and feel refreshed!

I would encourage you to bring the idea of Dark Sky Lighting back with you into your own homes and see how you feel.

THINGS TO NOTE:

- FIREPLACE FOR DECORATION ONLY, and is non-operational. There are (2) wall mounted heaters that pump out heat on those chilly nights, and a space heater. Plenty of extra blankets are also available.

- NO SHOES INDOORS. Kick off your shoes and take it easy. This not only keeps the home free of excess dirt, grime and toxins, but it protects the floors from tiny rocks that scratch, and you'll have a bit of reflexology when you walk around barefoot.

- SEPTIC. Please only use the provided toilet paper to flush, and nothing else. Otherwise, Houston, we might have a problem.

- NO A/C. In warm summer months, with all windows open and 3 fans blowing, the cross breeze helps to cool the house. Happily, the sun sets earlier and cools off in the evening - perfect for gazing up under the stars.

- ALL ELECTRIC. Take note when using the stove and keep temps around Medium and avoid High Heat on the pans.

- HIGH WINDS. We're up in the mountains and the winds can kick up to around 20 mph. Bring clothes to layer, especially after the sun sets.

- WATER CONSCIOUS. Julian relies on only 3 wells in the areas, which makes water a precious resource. Please turn off water while brushing your teeth, be brief while hand washing dishes, and try to keep showers brief.

- UPSTAIRS GUESTS. The studio is located directly below the deck and partial interior of the main cabin, the Dark Sky Den (which sleeps up to 4 people). You may hear the occasional walking above if the space is booked. Please respect their privacy on the upper deck, as they will respect yours on the lower patio. You may see people as you come and go. Give a wave and feel free to say hi, if you like.

You may see a deer or two, a fox or even a wild turkey. And please remember, there are also things like spiders, ants, flies, skunks, raccoons or wild cats.

- NO PETS. We are located on a hill, without a lot of spots for animals to roam comfortably to do their business. Coyotes and other Mountain Friends are frequent visitors to the area. Thank you for understanding.

A spot that's close enough to major areas in Southern California, yet feels like you've been completely transported away from it all. Julian is where it's at!

After getting sick with cancer over a decade ago, health and happiness became a priority. There's no better health hack than getting back to basics with non-toxic living, being surrounded by nature, trees, animals and breeze.

Our easy Fire TV (WiFi/internet operated) has your favorite apps for enjoyment such a Netflix, HBO, YouTube, etc and our High Speed 48Mbps Internet will allow you to watch movies while using multiple devices.

EXPLORING JULIAN:
Our Location is privilege! Julian town at 4,200' in the mountains of SoCal & 1.5hrs from SD beaches and 30 minutes from Borrego Springs.

Hiking trails, breweries, wineries and restaurants about one to a couple of miles from our house. Check inside our House Manual for location and details.

Cuyamaca Lake is about 15min from our location. Rent a boat, paddle boat, a kayak, get your fishing license and enjoy lunch right after at The Pub at Lake Cuyamaca.

Also about 21 miles from Mt Laguna with beautiful panoramic views and a couple of new restaurants The Outpost by Valley Farm and Pine House Cafe & Tavern.

Our location also takes you to Banner Rd so you can easily drive around town thru Farmers and Wynola Rd to avoid any extra traffic for some holidays or simply for a change of scenery and a beautiful drive overlooking our local mountains.

We are only 30 miles from Borrego Springs if you are like to explore a bit more on the East side of our mountain.
Drive to Old Julian Highway to visit for more wineries, located on Highway 78 west, right before the Camel Farm, the only one across the USA!
Ramona is our nearest big city, 22 miles west on Highway 78.

The Den's incredibly cozy interior has a laid-back, yet elevated contemporary style, perfectly complementing the natural beauty & ambiance of Julian.

But the real star is the peaceful, panoramic view of Volcan Mountain, seen from the spacious deck & every room in the cabin.

The most picturesque aspect of the home is the sweeping 180 degree mountain views seen from the moment you park the car and walk towards the door. The Oak Trees and Volcan Mountain can be seen from the expansive deck and windows in every space from the Living Room to the Breakfast Nook to the Sitting Room.

The Den has 2 bedrooms and 1 full size bathroom, sleeps up to 4 adults, a couple and a child, or as a spacious retreat for two. No more than 4 guests allowed.

This custom-built, cozy 800 square foot cabin was built in 1962 and has had a couple of revisions along the way. It comes with some cool features and a handful of quirks. That's what keeps life interesting, right?

Throughout the home you'll see beautiful, high pitched wood ceilings, along with continuous flooring in every room. The walls are a clean warm white, and black accents provide a grounding element alongside the wood and natural woven elements. The space is intentionally designed to reflect a natural and casual lifestyle, blending the elements of wood, metal, stone, earth, air and fire. A combination of vintage, custom, hand-made and previously owned furniture pieces create a feeling of both old and new. Dark Sky Lighting inside the cabin creates a warm and inviting ambiance that makes you feel cozy and comfortable as you ease into a relaxing night at home.

Let me tell you more about the Den...

LIVING ROOM
The minute you walk in the door, you'll see Volcan Mountain just behind the tops of Black Oak Trees, seen through a wall-to-wall picture window. A (non-operable) fireplace in the corner is surrounded by large stone walls and a pair of Selenite crystals. There is comfortable seating for 4 with a small sofa and 2 side chairs. The Entry Table doubles as a Desk for anyone interested in working remotely. Although I would encourage you to unplug from devices and reconnect with yourself, your loved ones and nature, there is a TV with Netflix and high-speed internet available.

KITCHEN
The Kitchen is cute and compact, with plenty of creative spaces. Feel free to bring plenty of food and snacks. There is a full size refrigerator and freezer, an electric range (stove and oven), and a small dishwasher. For extra counter space, there's a pop up cutting board. All glasses and extra kitchen supplies are located in the two slide out drawers at either side of the custom mural, painted by a good friend. Coffee and Tea are provided. There is a kettle and French Press along with a petite coffee maker. Simple cooking supplies are provided, such as electric cookware, utensils, plates and bowls, along with salt, pepper, olive oil and red pepper flakes. Also a small crock pot, toaster and full size blender are available.

BANQUETTE DINING
One of my favorite sweet spots in the house, with windows on all 3 sides that allow a slight breeze in through the gauzy cafe curtains. 2 bistro tables easily accommodate seating for 4.

SITTING ROOM
Located between the Living Room and First Bedroom is the Sitting Room. I find myself hanging out in here often. Maybe it's the double doors that open on to the deck with views of Volcan, or the ambient lighting at night. Whether it's to have a slow start to the day and enjoy a morning coffee, or to relax in the afternoon and take in the colors of the sunset, this is a very tranquil room. The 2 Lounge Chairs fold up and can be moved to accommodate more space if you'd like to stretch or simply need more free space.

BEDROOM 1
The King Size bed faces a modest window overlooking the hillside of oak trees and a mountain landscape. A second window offers a close up view of a Coulter Pine Tree used as acorn storage for the Woodpeckers. You'll recognize them as the black and white birds with a striking red cap. Decorative elements include small business artisan touches like the black and white woven wall tapestry above the bed, and the touch turn-on ceramic wall sconces that cascade light and shadow onto the walls, creating a starlight experience.

BEDROOM 2
Just through the back hallway sits a cozy little room with a full size bed. Perfect for one, or for those who love to cuddle. A woven light pendant hangs in the corner, casting shadows and decorative light against the walls.

BATHROOM
The spa-like bathroom is covered in wall to wall stone tiles for the ultimate retreat space. Enjoy the combination shower and tub, pedestal sink and 2 open shelf bookcases to hold all your toiletries and bathroom needs.

PATIO DECK
Spend your days AND nights on the deck, surrounded by trees, birds, easy breezes, and star filled skies. With over 180 degrees of breathtaking views, there is an outdoor dining table for 4, lounge chairs and soon a propane fire pit. Also available is a small propane BBQ.

THE DARK SKY
Julian is one of two accredited Dark Sky Communities in California, and one in thirty overall. The intention of being a Dark Sky Community is to protect the natural night sky by reducing light pollution. This means that outdoor lighting is carefully designed and controlled to minimize glare and unnecessary brightness. By doing this, we can fully appreciate the awe-inspiring wonders of the night sky, including the stars, constellations, and even the Milkey Way! Other than incredible stargazing, having a natural dark sky benefits astronomical research, wildlife preservation and our circadian rhythm. Imagine stepping outside on a clear night and being able to see a breathtaking display of stars stretching across the sky. That's the kind of experience you can have at the Dark Sky Den. It's like having your own personal planetarium.

So, whether you're an avid stargazer, a lover of nature, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of a starlit sky, Julian is the place to be.

LIGHTING
The Den incorporates dark sky lighting inside the cabin too, which creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere while supporting your circadian rhythm.

The soft illumination creates a sense of intimacy and relaxation, while also allowing your eyes to adjust to the natural darkness outside. It's the perfect setting for unwinding after a long day or spending quality time with loved ones. With the use of dimmers, warm light bulbs and minimal overhead lighting, you control how bright or dim you want the space to be.

One of the best benefits of dark sky lighting at home is how it affects our circadian rhythm, which is our internal body clock that helps regulate our sleep-wake cycle. Now, here's the thing: exposure to bright or blue-rich light in the evening can mess with our circadian rhythm and make it harder to fall asleep.

Wake up in the morning naturally with the morning sun and feel refreshed!

I would encourage you to bring the idea of Dark Sky Lighting back with you into your own homes and see how you feel.

THINGS TO NOTE:

- The indoor Fireplace is currently for Decoration Only, and non-operational. There are (2) wall mounted heaters that pump out heat on those chilly nights. Plenty of extra blankets are also available.

- No Shoes Indoors. Kick off your shoes and take it easy. This not only keeps the home free of excess dirt, grime and toxins, but it protects the floors from tiny rocks that scratch, and you'll have a bit of reflexology when you walk around barefoot.

- Septic. Please only use the provided toilet paper to flush, and nothing else. Otherwise, Houston, we might have a problem.

- No A/C. Although there is a window AC unit that cranks In warm summer months, with all windows open and 3 fans blowing, the cross breeze helps to cool the house. Happily, the sun sets earlier and cools off in the evening - perfect for gazing up under the stars.

- All Electric. Take note when using the stove and keep temps around Medium and avoid High Heat on the pans.

- Be Water Cautious. Julian relies on only 3 wells in the areas, which makes water a precious resource. Please turn off water while brushing your teeth, be brief while hand washing dishes, and try to keep showers brief.

This mountain cabin was once owned by one of the Historic Bailey family members who are very famous in Julian, CA. It sits at 3350 feet approximately. The cabin has been updated. There is Starlink internet and a playground. The standard setup is for five Guests. The house sleeps four to five Guests total with one or two Guests in the master bedroom. The Butterfly Room has a twin size bed.

The space
There is a trail that goes around the ten acres you can walk, bike or run. There is also a labyrinth walk. There are two patios. The small inside gym has a bike and a rowing machine. There are small weights and a yoga mat. The Space includes a four bedroom and 2 1/2 bath house. The first bedroom is the master with a private bathroom in the room and there is a queen size bed which sleeps two Guests. The second and third bedrooms each have one twin bed. The bedrooms are small. The fourth bedroom has a full bed for one and has a wood fireplace. It has a thin curtain and wood for a wall that looks like a "Zen Room" or a Japanese room. It is a not a real room. This Zen room is not sound proof. Anyone who sleeps in this room can maybe hear activity going on downstairs, so quiet hours are 10 pm to 7 am. There is a half bathroom downstairs.
The space(s) is ultra-sanitized. Please let us know if you have any questions about our cleaning methods.
The playground is shared with one other listing that is approximately 300 feet away.
Dual pane windows mute the gentle hum of the two lane country highway about three hundred feet away. Traffic slows here because the posted speed limit is thirty five miles per hour.
The gas clothes dryer is a full service one and it is $5.00 up to 50 minutes of drying time. This is available 9 am - 6 pm. The last load of clothes drying is at 5 PM to finish by 6 PM, with exceptions to the service hours when agreed upon. Give your host two hours notice if you are interested in using the full-service dryer service. The washing machine is self-service and it is free. Guests provide laundry soap, because laundry soap is not included.

The property/land is available to our other listing as well and it is shared. You are welcome in any part of the more than ten acres of the property!
Julian is a registered "Dark Sky" community and the residences and businesses use very little light in order to see the stars and Julian, is one of the few places in the U.S.A. you can see the Milky Way. Because of this, it is very dark at night and there are no lights leading to the home. We encourage Guests to arrive early and get oriented. There is a telescope here to use.

The key to your room will be easily found in the door and you can leave it there at the time of checkout. I will send you the code to the keyless entry for the house. The outbuildings are for the host only.

During your stay
It is up to the Guests to decide. In August, I will have some visitors here and they will stay in a trailer that is approximately 200 feet from your lodging cabin. The visitors are volunteers who will come and help me start a new garden.

Other things to note
When you first arrive at the property you will see a large house on the left.
That is the main house you will be staying at.
There is a Native Plant trail that goes around the property. There are also many boulders to climb on and sit on.
The lamps in the house, including the bedrooms have red LED light bulbs in them. They are zero-blue light emitting light bulbs. Harvard University studies have shown that exposure to blue and green light after dark disrupts our sleep and increases our risk of type - 2 diabetes, depression, heart disease, anxiety and cancer. -Blue light has a dark side (2018). One bathroom upstairs in the hallway, that is painted light blue has a narrow hallway to get to the toilet. Please see all the photos for a visual of everything. The TV has a cord that plugs into most laptops, so you can watch your laptop things on the big screen.

There are two air conditioning units. One is upstairs and one is downstairs. They are both very powerful. The downstairs air conditioning unit is in the dining room/small gym area. The upstairs air conditioning unit is in the Zen Room. The piano is not in perfect tune.

Our Big Pine cabin is nearby and was built around the same time. The Little Pine cabin was probably built in the 40's and is on the opposite side of the main house and not as close. (you can't see it from the suite.) Some time in the 60's the part of the main cabin/house that we refer to as the main house or Pine House was added on to the original cabin so they are adjoining but have completely separate entrances and decks.

The Zen Den consists of a separate entry into two private rooms inside a grand Pine Hills estate home which sits on 1 acre of secluded paradise in a serene neighborhood with wonderful quiet roads for ambling and walking with family or your furry pet. For those wanting to 'unplug' and embrace slower pace of country living, this is truly affordable luxury just minutes away from downtown Julian. Please review all of the details of the set up of the space before booking.

The space
The space is basically set up as a 2-room suite in a hotel but has no shared spaces with main house. There is a private separate entry and includes a master Cal King bedroom (Zen Den) with an 'en suite' luxury slipper bathtub, a separate Powder Room, and includes an adjacent room for expanded living space that has a pull out double sofa if needed for more than 2 guests (max is 4) . The living room includes dining area and is ideal for families with children. Each room connects to the powder room (toilet + sink).
There is no kitchen, but there is a coffee maker, microwave, and small refrigerator. The Zen Den is pet friendly so you can bring your dog to breath some mountain air and watch the deer and turkeys walk through the neighborhood. The Cal King has a pillow top mattress and is perfect as a place to unwind after a day of exploring the mountains.

The house is located just two miles outside of Julian. The house is on a hillside which has an amazing view. You can see the edge of Julian, all the way into Anza Borrego and on clear days the Salton Sea is visible from the deck. The patio is a great place to sit, sip your locally acquired adult beverage of choice and enjoy the view.
Come enjoy Julian, grab a slice of apple pie and sit back and enjoy the slower side of life.

The space
The space available for rent is attached to the main house. This space is the downstairs to the main house but is completely self contained. You'll have your own private entrance, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and a private patio that has an amazing view. The morning sunrise is something worth setting your alarm clocks for, even if it is the weekend. Though the view is facing east the sunset is worth sticking around for too. The desert view becomes alive with colors skating across the sky. We recently remodeled the entire space top to bottom. We are proud of the finished product and we ask you to keep it looking as good as it did when you arrived outside of the normal cleaning. The interior is mostly all white, with lots of nature light that comes in through the windows and sliding glass doors. The space is decorated with a mix of modern and bohemian. We made an effort to bring some of nature inside in the form of real plants so it can be enjoyed comfortably from within. The place is clean and quiet, a great place to get away and relax.

Getting there:
We are just over two miles from the heart of Julian. The last half mile is a gravel road and depending on how much rain and snow we have recently had can be a little bumpy . If there is snow in the forecast chains are required to get in and out of the property.

if there is snow in the forecast or it has snowed recently tire chains for traction devices are highly recommended. the last 1/2 mile of road will not be plowed which makes driving more challenging. guests are welcome to park on the main neighborhood streets and walk in also.




Once you are here:
There is parking for two cars. Parking is on the side of the garage in the flat gravel area. There are two paths you can take to get the entrance. One is follow the lit gravel path on the backside of the garage to the sidewalk along the side of the house. Two is to walk between the garage and the main house in the breeze way, through the storm door and down the stairs to the sidewalk along the side of the house. Once you're on the sidewalk walk till you hit the private patio and the entrance is through the sliding glass doors (key in lock box) via the patio.

Inside the space:
Living room:
Walk in through the sliding glass door into the living room area. There you find a couch smart TV (there is also a chromecast attached to stream from your device). There is no antenna, Satellite or cable at the house everything is streamed via wifi.
Kitchen:
The kitchen is attached to the living room area. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need for cooking. There is a countertop oven, cooktop, mini fridge, coffee maker, stainless steel sink, pots and pan, dinnerware and utensils. Salt and pepper, olive oil and coffee will be supplied.

Bedroom:
The bedroom has an oversized closet with shelves that is available for use. A queen sized bed sit in the middle of the room with night stands at either side. A modern chair sit in the corner of the room.
Bathroom:
Walking into the bathroom there is a vanity with a mirror over the sink. There is a shower, tub combo which will be stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soap. Clean towels will be in the bathroom either hung up or on the shelf. Towels and sheets are washed and disinfected with Clorox after each guest.
Patio:
You'll have your own private patio to be able to sit out on and enjoy the view. With very few neighbors around you'll have a almost 100% unobstructed view.

FYI:
You have your own central heat, A/C unit the thermostat located on the wall. We ask that you be conservative with your usage of heat and A/C by not leaving doors or windows open while either of these are running and lowering their usage while you're out. There is no smoking or parties on the premises. Over night stays are limited to the two people on the reservation. We ask if you have guests that stop by for a visit please give us a notice prior to their arrival. No pets are allowed. This space has had a complete remodel and we ask that you respect the home and environment, leaving it how you found it. Verizon and At&t have good cell coverage here but other carriers can be spotty in their coverage but a work around for this is connecting to the wifi. there is a propane bbq that is supplied we can not guarantee that the tank has propane please bring your own or be prepared to potentially having the propane tank filled. The gas station in Julian refills them.

Weather:
The weather here can change drastically from day to night. Come prepared for all weather variations including high winds.

The main house:

The upstairs is another rental La Luna Lookout if you'd like to check it out. Please do not bother the other guests. The area are complete separated only sharing the driveway. There is sound insulation between the floors.

We do not have kitchen facilities but we do have a fridge in your room if you want to keep your food/drinks cold.
There is also a toaster, keurig, electric kettle, French Press to make coffee. There is coffee/tea/drinking water in the room for your use.
Unfortunately, campfires or not permitted due to the high fire danger of the area.
Julian gets very cold in the winter. But there is a mini split in the room to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Please be aware that if you are very tall/large you may find the shower small.
The toilet is a composting toilet. It is electric & has a vent that goes through the roof & there is where the smell will go to.
If you want to know more about the toilet & make sure you will be comfortable using it, please look it up online before you book.
There is no flushing. It kind of gives you the feel of a pit toilet if you know what i mean.... but without the flies or the smell!
There are a bunch of videos on youtube. Just type "Envirolet composting toilet" and familiarize with it to make sure you'll be ok using a composting toilet.
And another important thing to be aware of. We have att and unfortunately is the only provider at our address for now... We are at the end of the line. That means it is pretty slow and inconsistent.
Also, if you have Tmobile, there is no signal in most of our neighborhood and some areas in Julian. But you can use Tmobile wifi once you are connected to the internet.

Our property is 40 acres and we back to the BLM so you feel like you are all alone, but town is just 2 miles away .

Together with our farm animals, we do have a dog & she of course sometimes bark... She is not a nightmare dog that barks all night, she is a livestock guard dog so she will bark when there are deer, raccoons, skunks, bobcats, coyotes or mountain lions around. Yes, we do have them all.
She is a very sweet & friendly dog, but she is big. If you don't want her around we will keep her in the back yard, where she is always at night. It is not a problem. Just let us know.
We also have 2 cats that roams around. We don't let them inside the Airbnb to protect people with allergies, but know he'll show up in the outdoor area.

Banner Ranch is located 7 miles from main street Julian. Arriving at the property you will enter the parking lot. Follow the road to the tiny home community. All homes are numbered. The store is open at designated times. Dining and additional supplies available in downtown Julian. Guests have access to everything inside the tiny house as well as everything outside tiny house lot space. There are many nature trails that you are free to explore.

The Vista View room is a lovely, spacious room which is great for friends getting together, families w/ kids & guests attending weddings in the Julian area. The space includes one large bedroom with 2 queen beds, a trundle bed with 2 twin beds and a private bathroom. The view is beautiful and location is close to town. Note: The host lives downstairs and there is a downstairs bedroom that may be rented to Airbnb guests while you are visiting.

The space
Green Owl is a 3000 sq. ft home built in 2002. It is graced with high ceilings, wonderful views, a large stone fireplace, wrap around porches and a spacious dining room. Original stained glass windows, mosaic sculptures and paintings created on site add to the charm and uniqueness of this home. Green Owl property is 4.5 acres with organic gardens, orchard and easy wide trails for nature walks, Green Owl is a pleasure to visit year round. Enjoy wildlife - deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, coyotes and lots of different species of birds, Steller Crested Blue Jays, Robins, Goldfinches and Quail to name a few. Come meander among oaks, cypress, pines and manzanitas and enjoy great views of the Vulcan Mountain range.

Guest access
The spacious living room with high ceilings, large windows and comfortable furniture is open to all guests day and evening. A large stone fireplace provides heat and a cozy hearth to gather around in the winter. A ceiling fan and open windows provide plenty of air circulation in the summer. Gorgeous views and an antique dining room table make the dining room a lovely room to have coffee or tea in the morning. In the dining room there is an apartment size refrigerator, toaster oven and microwave for guest use all day. Complementary organic coffee, tea and fresh filtered well water are self serve in the dining room. Please feel welcome to enjoy the views and fresh mountain air on the spacious front porch. Whether you are having morning beverages or a glass of wine (or mug of beer) kickback and relax at the outdoor coffee table, high seated chairs or lounge chairs. Note: The kitchen is not included in the rental

During your stay
I am often present in my private apartment, working in the art studio, in the gardens or in the office. I am happy to answer questions, give directions and recommend local restaurants and activities. Sometimes I may be not home in which case I will be available via texting and cell phone

All rentals at Green Owl have rooms that lock. Room keys are always available to guests. They can be found hanging on the key rack next to the front door.

The remote for the split unit to control the temperature in the room is on the wall by the kitchenette. The fireplace is electric & can be used for ambiance, but the split is the main heat/ air source. Feel free to adjust tempature to your comfort level using that remote. The wifi password will be updated & posted in the studio. We are on septic; please flush the provided paper only... Thank you!

Go back to a simpler time with a visit to this quaint 1940s country farmhouse, complete with a front porch that overlooks Volcan Mountain and a 1/2 acre garden filled with whispering pines, fragrant cedars, and majestic oak trees. I'll supply the lawn chairs for the ultimate in relaxation if you supply the wine from one of our local wineries! Or, if getting out and about is more your speed, come hike in our crisp mountain air, visit an 1870s gold mine, or feast on a succulent apple pie.

The space
In the main house, there is a queen size bed in the larger bedroom, a full size bed in the guest bedroom, and a comfortable foldout bed in the living room. The cottage has the original oak hardwood floors, a quaint country kitchen, an outside BBQ, and Smart TV with DirectTV as well as Netflix, Prime Video, Discovery Plus, Paramount Plus, Starz, HULU, YouTube, and HBO Max. Plenty of private onsite parking, including reserved parking with direct, paved and plowed access to the highway on snowy days.

Guests have complete and private access to the cottage as well as the lush grounds surrounding the home. In the winter, there is plenty of room outdoors for building your favorite snow man among the nearly 250 trees on the property. In spring, there is an abundance of new buds bursting forth, including Julian's famous daffodils as well as iris and narcissus flowers, which are dispersed throughout the property. And in summer, that's the time for relaxing in one of the armchairs under your favorite tree and reading that novel you have just never been able to finish. Lastly, the fall....the trees turn a crimson color and the whispering pines sing you to sleep as a cool night settles in for the best sleep you've had in years!

Other things to note
This tribute to my own grandmother (with many of her vintage antiques and linens) is located one mile from historic downtown Julian and is at the end of a private 1/8th of a mile gravel and dirt road. Recently redesigned, this 750 square foot bungalow is perfect for a romantic get-a-away or for a small family of four who wants to experience going back to a gentler time.

The cottage is stocked with everything you will need for a relaxing, restful stay at an affordable price. The nightly rate includes all county lodge taxes, which are paid by the owner instead of the guest requirement to pay on check-in. Manzanita Sunrise is a 2 story duplex home, each level with a separate entry from the outside.

This listing is for Downstairs Studio apartment with fully equipped kitchen, living area with large screen curved smart TV, and queen size bed. This unit was recently upgraded with new central split unit AC and heater, and new kitchen.

Large east facing window has light blackout drapes for late morning rest. We also provide white noise machine, and earplugs for those who might need this.

Upstairs apartment has its own entry and can be rented separate. Both units have their own patio space and own entrance.

Guest access
Short part of Manzanita drive leading to the house is uphill dirt with gravel covered road. You will need high ground clearance vehicle to drive up this last lag of the road (most midsize cars and SUVs are ok). Easier parking is right on Manzanita drive, the street above the house. Guests are welcome to park there. We have a private parking space which can accommodate 2 cars with stairs down leading to the house.

If you parked on the street to turn around travel down Manzanita drive, pass the next house where there is an empty lot where you can turn around. In addition there 2 parking spaces on the driveway - one all the way down and another one as you go down driveway immediately on your right. If you parked at the end of driveway you would need to make multi turn around to drive out. If you parked on the right side space you would need to be able to back up to Manzanita. This might be challenging for some vehicles backing in or out of the driveway.
You can enter this downstairs studio by a private gate on the right side of the house leading to your entrance door.

Please note: you are choosing to vacation in rural country area. SDGE power outages and internet downtimes are common here, particularly during winter storms or fire seasons. You might not have hot water or refrigerator working when power is out. However we have propane stove and heater working.

During winter, there may be heavy snow storm that may lead to cancelations outside of my control. We are on a private road so conditions may not be safe to drive up to.

This is a mountain retreat with amazing views located just two miles from downtown Julian. Come enjoy a stay in a one bedroom, 1 &1/2 bath with over 1200 modernized square feet of space. The property is two miles from downtown Julian. The last half mile of road is a dirt road depending on rain and snow amounts it can be bumpy. Our cleaners and the neighbor both have standard sedans to get into to the property.
