This cute little cabin is nestled right in the heart of the hills! Located just minutes from Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer state park! There is an endless variety of things to do and see while here in the Black Hills. You will enjoy watching the deer and turkey come into the yard most evenings. Just a stone's throw from Custer State Park! Three guest cabins, and two suites located in the lodge, are located on 6 beautiful, serene, and quiet acres in Custer County, SD.

The Carol Jean is a historic cabin getaway that we renovated a few years ago. The Carol Jean includes a kitchenette with granite countertops and all new appliances. The bath includes a large natural rock shower. The cabin sleeps four, with a king bed on the first level and two twin beds on the second level (loft). There is an all redwood deck with a swing for outdoor relaxation.

All cabins include Wifi, 32" Roku TV, air conditioning, heating, and outdoor dining facilities with access to a barbecue grill. Cell service can be spotty all through the Black Hills. However, we have recently, (Spring 2022), upgraded to Starlink satellite internet.

This cabin has a swing set and other outdoor equipment in front of it for children to use. There is a large meadow on the property and if you walk to the end of it you can see Mt. Rushmore through the trees.

McDonald Mountain Ranch is in a very convenient location. Center Lake is nearby, which is a swimming/fishing lake with picnic tables, barbeque grills, showers and restrooms; located 2 miles away from the ranch. The Black Hills Historic Playhouse is also within a few miles. The beautiful Iron Mountain Hiking Trail is right around the corner. The Wolf Camp outdoor restaurant which serves barbeque ribs, burgers, pizza, etc is 1/2 mile away. The entrance to Custer State Park is also right around the corner. In our opinion we have the best and most beautiful property and location in the hills!

Minimum age requirement is 3 yrs old.

We do not have guest laundry facilities. There are laundromats in Keystone and Hill City.

Unfortunately due to many considerations and despite the fact that we are huge animal lovers, we do not allow pets in our property. If a guest arrives for their reservation with an animal they will NOT be given a rental key NOR issued a refund.

Check in is at 4:00pm MST. Because we have a full house and are small staffed please do not arrive early. Late check in is fine, just give us a call to arrange it.

Driving and Parking Info:The Ranch is located directly off of a well maintained and paved county road. Our driveways are hard packed dirt and gravel. We have limited parking near each of the cabins and suites. We have an additional parking area at the rear of the main lodge. We have a large, well kept meadow beyond that for overflow parking of motorcycle trailers, side by sides, etc. We ask that you please do not block the main driveways or the two car garage at the front of the property.

LOWER LEVEL OF HOME ONLY, NO SHARED SPACE. IDEAL LOCATION in the heart of the Southern Black Hills, 2 miles west of Keystone on the Old Hill City road, a famous motorcycling route. Experience the 1880 train that runs directly by the property. Enjoy the sites, specialty shops, great variety in food and entertainment with Mt Rushmore 5 minutes away, Crazy Horse within 20 minutes and if you enjoy gambling Deadwood is approximately 45 minutes travel time. For the nature lover, several hiking trails within walking distance. Owners live in the upper level of the home.

We can accommodate up to four people comfortably. We prefer children to be at least 8 years of age and older please!! There is a gas log stove in the living room area and wouldn't wish a younger child to touch it and get burnt!!

The property is nestled on a wooded lot, spacious open floor plan lower accommodations with separate entrance. Fully equipped kitchen, rec room houses arcade console, pool table, foosball table and a hockey table. Living room has satellite television and wi-fi included. Queen size bed in bedroom and 2 queen sofa sleepers in living room that house children well.

Outdoor space includes propane grill, table and chairs with additional seating available. Also a fire table to roast marshmallows, cook hot dogs or to enjoy some heat on our cool summer evenings!!! Child proof skewers are provided!

Our cleaning standards are above normal with Covid 19 on the rise. I use an additive that kills 99.99% of germs for all the laundry loads between stays. I also wash all bedding that includes sheets, blankets, comforter, mattress pads and even the zippered pillow protectors!! Also all towels, shower curtains and bath rug are laundered between guests. We use antibacterial wipes on all door knobs, pool sticks, pool balls, air hockey, foos ball table handles and arcade handles!!

The view from the home is beautiful, you can see Mount Rushmore in the distance. Nice Hiking on the property and close to everything. Very Private, which is nice when you come back from a long day. Crazy Horse is also, close. The Badlands is about an hour and 15 minutes away.
We also live on the property but we will never bother you unless you need something. You have your own place and we have our own home.

Wake up each morning and watch the 1880 train pass by or enjoy your coffee on the back porch with the visiting wildlife. If you're planning a motorcycle trip, this home has very limited gravel on the driveway and one garage stall to park in. Bringing ATV's/UTV's? There are nearby forest service roads for riding and the Hill City trails aren't far away! You can even unwind in the evenings with some foosball in the bonus room. With everything so convenient in a beautiful location, why stay anywhere else?

- "We had a great stay. Great location for us. We had some issues with the lights in the living room not working and they had an electrician out within the hour. We had a total of 3 couples and it was perfect. I would stay here again." - "This was a great property to escape the hustle and bustle of Keystone and still have access to shopping and restaurants. - "The cabin was absolutely perfect! All my husband wanted for his birthday in May was to see the monument one last time but this trip was so much more because of American Pines and their location as well as the pet friendly atmosphere. We recently rescued two pups less than a year old and this was their first trip away from home. We almost did not go because of them but Becki and Austin were fantastic. The office wasn't always available and I did want some Stronger 413 coffee but we had to leave before I really had a chance to connect with them. Will theck out the website for it."

**1. MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY**

Guest must accurately disclose the number of adults, children, and pets in the booking. This number applies to both overnight and daytime visitors. Unauthorized over-occupancy may result in eviction without refund.

A $500 fee applies for indoor smoking or vaping. Outdoor smoking is permitted only with windows and doors closed. Guest is liable for odor or residue removal costs.

**3. PET POLICY**

Pets must be pre-approved and disclosed in advance. An Animal Addendum is required for all pets, emotional support animals, and service animals. Unauthorized animals may result in eviction and fees.

**4. DAMAGE POLICY**

Guests must choose between a refundable deposit or a non-refundable damage waiver. Guests are responsible for any unreported or excessive damage, missing items, or extra cleaning.

**5. CLEANLINESS**

Guests are expected to maintain the home in a respectful condition and report any cleanliness issues within 24 hours of arrival.

**6. NOISE & QUIET HOURS**

Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 9 AM. Excessive noise or neighbor complaints may lead to eviction.

**7. PARKING**

Parking instructions and capacity are listed in the property description. Unauthorized parking or exceeding the limit may result in fines or towing.

**8. LOCK OUTS / KEYS**

Keyless codes are active during your stay. Lost keys or lockouts may incur up to a $150 fee.

**9. LINENS & SUPPLIES**

Please refer to the listing for what is provided. Only flush septic-safe toilet paper. Plumbing damage due to misuse will be charged to the guest.

**10. ISSUES OR COMPLAINTS**

All issues must be reported immediately and within 24 hours of arrival. Guests must allow the host an opportunity to resolve any problems before requesting outside intervention or refunds.

**11. REHOUSING & REFUNDS**

No refunds or reimbursement will be offered if a guest chooses to vacate the property early or declines offered solutions.

**12. CANCELLATION POLICY**

Our cancellation policy applies regardless of reason. Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase travel insurance.

**13. SUBLETTING / THIRD PARTIES**

No subletting or third-party bookings allowed without prior written approval.

**14. CAMERAS & TECH**

There are no indoor cameras. Outdoor cameras, smart locks, and safety devices may be present and must not be tampered with.

Guests must secure the home when not present. Entry codes must not be shared with individuals outside the booking party.

**16. ENTRY DURING STAY**

Host or agent may access the property with proper notice. Light cleaning may be scheduled for extended stays.

**17. INTERNET USE**

Illegal or abusive internet use is prohibited. Guest assumes all responsibility for online activity and must secure their own devices.

**18. FALSIFIED RESERVATIONS**

Providing false information (age, party size, purpose of stay) will result in eviction and loss of payment.

- "We had an amazing stay here! The host was very clear, quick to communicate and gave great instructions for check in/check out. The home was clean and comfortable (temp) when we arrived. The home is also decorated beautifully and has more than enough space to relax and get comfortable. They had everything we needed such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion, laundry detergent, kitchen supplies, dishes, pans, wine glasses, board games, blankets, etc. The list could go on! The game room was much enjoyed as well as the stores kit and the outdoor fir pit. They also had a beautiful enclosed patio for the chilly mornings or evenings. The little stove was a great was to heat the space and add to the ambience. We sat here and drank our coffee on the chilly mornings. The home was a quick drive to restaurants and shops and of course Mount Rushmore! We saw several deer and enjoyed the beautiful views from the home. American Pines Lodge is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home that can sleep up to 12 people with a queen bed in each room, a sofa sleeper in the living room & 4 portable cots. This charming loft cabin, a cozy duplex that shares a common wall with its neighbor. This cabin features a queen bed on the main floor and another queen bed in the loft area, as well as an adult size cot and a child size futon for additional sleeping options.
Equipped with modern amenities such as a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee pot, our cabin is designed for your comfort and convenience. We are pleased to offer dog-friendly accommodations, allowing a maximum of two dogs per stay. Please note that cats are not permitted in the cabin.

Beside the cabin deck and grass area, there is a small grill available. Down below the hill top we have a grassy meadow next to Battle Creek. It has a fire pit and runs from our bridge to the culvert and there is an access from Old Hill City Road in case you want to drive in with picnic or fishing supplies.

Locking cabin - Take note: Two buttons on the skinny side of the door by latch. Door auto-locks when closed or door automatically stays in the unlocked mode, depending on which button is pushed in. Sometimes the thumb-latch sticks and makes locking cabin difficult but it is most likely one of these 2 buttons.

I often eat at Powder House on Hwy 16A just a mile away for breakfast lunch or dinner and the food is great.
Pizza from Halley’s West at the Keystone “mall” is Great and so are the wings. They are near the Alpine slide and zip line course which are also a lot of fun.
Custer Park via Hwy 16A is just before Mt. Rushmore and is called Iron Mt. Rd. Or Pig Tail Bridges Rd and a must experience. Stop at the top for the Norbeck Overlook for a great look at Mt Rushmore and a scenic photo-op of the Monument through the 3 different tunnels as you drive back down. This drive was a part of the “North by Northwest" movie National Treasure.

The space
This is a small sleeping cabin. It has room for a queen bed only and a small refrigerator, microwave and a small table with a coffee pot. It does have a shower in the small bathroom. There is an A/C heat unit, a large deck overlooking Battle Creek and National Forest treetops. It is not kid-friendly because of the rough terrain and wild life at your doorstep.

I often eat at Powder House on Hwy 16A just a mile away for breakfast lunch or dinner and the food is great.
Pizza from Halley’s West at the Keystone “mall” is Great and so are the wings. They are near the Alpine slide and zip line course which are also a lot of fun.
Custer Park via Hwy 16A is just before Mt. Rushmore and is called Iron Mt. Rd. Or Pig Tail Bridges Rd and a must experience. Stop at the top for the Norbeck Overlook for a great look at Mt Rushmore and a scenic photo-op of the Monument through the 3 different tunnels as you drive back down. This drive was a part of the “North by Northwest" movie National Treasure.

There are two private bedrooms, each providing access to the back patio and just steps away from the hot tub. The first bedroom contains a king bed and a futon (an extra sleeping option not included in the guest count), while the second bedroom has a queen bed. - If we can, we offer 1 hour free of charge, and then $25 per hour up to 2 extra hours (3 hours total). Please reach out if that would be helpful to have us contact you if an early check in is needed. If you want more than 3 hours extra, we invite you to reserve the night before or the night after to ensure you can arrive at your leisure.

PETS
We welcome dogs at The George House with a fee per dog, per stay fee (maximum of 2 dogs). Please note that all pet stays must be approved prior to check-in, and unfortunately, we do not allow cats.

Located only minutes from Mt. Rushmore, Keystone, and the 1880 train, Keystone Crossing is a great place to see everything from! It's close to town, yet surrounded by national forest on two sides. Wake up each morning and watch the 1880 train pass by or enjoy your coffee on the back porch with the visiting wildlife. If you're planning a motorcycle trip, this home has very limited gravel on the driveway and one garage stall to park in. Bringing ATV's/UTV's? There are nearby forest service roads for riding and the Hill City trails aren't far away! You can even unwind in the evenings with some foosball in the bonus room. With everything so convenient in a beautiful location, why stay anywhere else?
