Once you have done your grocery shopping a Sullivan's grocery store just down the street a few blocks, you will find seasonings to the right and above the stove, plenty of pots and pans and even cake pans and a hand mixer for that special occasion. The kitchen also boasts a food processor, blender, hot pot, drip coffee maker, French press, toaster and waffle makers all awaiting your creativity or your simplicity. Grab a cup of coffee or tea (found to the left of the stove) and enjoy solitude on the breakfast porch that we affectionately call the French Bistro. Pull back the curtains and enjoy a glimpse of the Mighty Mississippi or leave them closed for a bit of respite from the sun. Anyway you do it, it will be a delight.

There are patios on the front and back porches, with good views of the river from the back porch and from the living room, and master bedroom. The coffee maker was a bit complicated, but easy to use once I got the hang of it. Nice to have a gas grill, and a gas stove, even though we ate out for every meal. We’ll definitely book this place on future trips to the area."

Good size bathroom has one shower (no tub). The living room features seating and a smart TV with a classic Nintendo system loaded with hundreds of old-school games from your past. The dining room consists of a dining table and bar. A built-in work station is located in the main hallway. A classic galley-style 3-season room is attached to the unit (please note, you need to exit the front door to access the room). Easy street parking is abundant. Cleanliness is our highest priority, including special attention to high-touch areas, washing of all bedding between guests, and recurrent UV light treatment of furniture and other surfaces.

- "Stayed here over a busy Memorial day weekend. The home has a full kitchen for cooking meals or just a couple minute walk to Manny's Pizza or Sunshine Restaurant for delicious food at a very low cost. The service is fast and friendly. If you're into the motorcycle lifestyle there is the Iron Horse Social Club a minute walk away or Poopy's Pub a 5 minute drive. The house has a small living room were we enjoyed having a family get together. There is a large washer and dryer that is very convenient. There's are tons of recreational opportunities in the area like fishing, boating and hiking just to name a few. The host provided an informative brochure, excellent communication and check in was simple and easy. The only negative one could have is an occasional train horn that was not loud, but could be heard in the night. It did not bother me, but the host does provide ear plugs. I would stay here again."

- "Main floor of cabin had a weird tilt towards the kitchen, but we adapted. There were spoons and knives, but no forks. And no soap for the shower. But sitting on the porch at sunset overlooking the river was beautiful. And the cabin was roomy and beds were comfortable. Gas grill needs serious cleaning. "

Beds were comfortable, and house was nicely decorated and stocked with essentials. This stay has two bedrooms, a master bedroom with a queen bed and a second bedroom with a queen bed and a futon. This home has a large bathroom with towels and toiletries, and a living room with a TV, two recliners, and a couch. A large kitchen with utensils, pots and pans stocked for your needs. Outside there's a small patio area with a charcoal grill, A fire pit, picnic table, and seating.

Guest access
To get to the property, there is a horseshoe driveway that is perfect for multiple vehicles or for boats. When staying at the property, you will be situated across the road from the Mississippi river, and will have access to our boat dock(this dock is shared). A mile down the road is a boat drop off area. Savanna is 6 miles north and Thomson is 3 miles south. Clinton Iowa is 15 minutes across the Mississippi river.

Other things to note
Owners have lived in the neighborhood for over 15 years and are easy to contact. Well behaved pets are allowed, but I do want to be informed if you will be bringing pets. Please treat the property and their neighbors with respect and boundaries, the neighbors property and driveway are not to be used or driven on. If you have any questions please contact the owners.

This cabin is located on the serene backwaters of the Mississippi. It is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway, or ideal spot to rent for fishing tournament‘s or duck hunting. This cabin is situated next to pool 13, and there is plenty of space for multiple vehicles and boats to park. Only half a mile away from the loading dock and close by to an Illinois State Park, our cabin allows Guests to enjoy nature in a relaxed setting.

Some more features of the cabin are its large deck, and large windows that overlook the River. With an open floor plan the cabin is cozy with its full bed and sofa bed, its one bathroom, and a kitchen that has a fridge and stove, and microwave. The kitchen is stocked with necessary dishes and utensils. This cabin also has an outdoor fire pit, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and chairs with a view of the Mississippi River. Nearby there is a bar and restaurant, walking, and bike paths. The neighboring town of Savanna has several historical attractions as well as a famous biker bar. The cabin is motorized scooter and wheelchair accessible (ramp and staircase to deck). Owners of property have lived in the area for over 15 years and are able to provide more information if requested. Cabin can be rented at different prices for longer stays.

This home is steps to the Mississippi River, park your boat on the beach. Room for an air mattress. Excellent fishing off the property. Breath taking views, a bit of Heaven. The bike trail is one-half block away plus Ice fishing in Spring Lake, Chestnut Mountain has a zip line, alpine slide, downhill . Boat launch 1 mile, restaurant is walk able distance. Golf 4 miles, Savanna 8 mi, Thomson 4 mi, Fulton 8 mi, Clinton IA 10 miles. Both interior and exterior multiple steps into the home.

The space is an open floor plan. It was once an earth home with a mowed roof. As a result, you feel like you are directly on the river just looking out the window. The entire front of the home is floor to ceiling glass (with blinds). You enter through the garage.

You’ll find everything you need to make your getaway memorable! Bigger than your typical “tiny house” but small enough to be quaint and cozy, this private free-standing house is the perfect location to visit the Upper Mississippi River Valley.

The well-equipped kitchen has an oven, small freezer, and small refrigerator with designated can space that's big enough to chill a bottle of wine and keep your food cold, microwave, coffee pot and toaster oven/air fryer. The water faucet is connected to a KUBE® advanced water filtration system, for safe, quality drinking water. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, mugs, glasses, silverware, pots, pans, etc.

The private deck has a table and chairs to watch the sunset, and a propane grill.

Unwind with your favorite movies on the smart tv (guest account required for app access, local tv only).

Comfortably sleep up to four with a king size bed on the second floor with its own small balcony to take in the view, and a full-size futon on the main level.

At the turn of the century 112 E. Main was a gentleman’s suit shop. I like to imagined the tailor returning to this comfortable apartment after a long days work. Much of the original cabinetry from the suit shop still exists in what is now The Loft art gallery. Also, the large green chest of drawers in the apartment is original to the shop.

The cherry counter tops, coffee bar and island all come from wood milled just north of town and custom made for the space by my father in-law. The building is filled with character, truly an example of recent and historic craftsmanship. It should be noted that the apartment is on the second floor of a commercial building, so the guest(s) will need to go up 21 steps for access.

I will leave it unlocked as it also contains the breaker box. The apartment does have a designated closet for hanging clothes and storing luggage. There is a door that leads to the art gallery on the north wall that will be kept locked from both sides.

The tiny house cabin is located at Spring Lake Campground and therefore opens the experience up to all the campground has to offer! There is a camp store on site with some games, cards, basic necessities, snacks and drinks. Many exciting activities close by, such as downtown Savanna, Palisades state park and the Mississippi River.

This is a cozy 1920's 2 story home has been recently refreshed. A large front porch spans the front of the house. The first floor opens to an entrance way that has a bench and coat hooks. The large living room has sectional seating for a movie night or 2 cozy recliners for reading or relaxing. A 4' square table and chairs is ready for a puzzle or board game. Just off the living room is a game room consisting of a game table. Three options: hard top for cards or board game, reverse side for poker or bumper pool table. Just off the game room is a powder room (1/2 bath). The kitchen can be accessed off the game room or living room. It has a table, 6 chairs and a coffee bar. Full size dishwasher, oven, microwave and refrigerator. Cupboards contain plates, bowls, cups, wine glasses and silverware for 6. The Driftless Muse retreat house, Mount Carroll Illinois, is in the beautiful Driftless Region of Northwest Illinois. Featuring a small art studio and designated writing space, it is a perfect place to explore nature, make art, write or just plain relax. Two blocks from the quaint center of town, where you will find a latte, great food, antiques, local music, a famous haunted house, a massage, and brick streets. It is a 10 minute drive to the Mississippi River.

The space
The Driftless Muse was built in 1868 and was home to miners, some of the first settlers to Mount Carroll. The house was added onto several times and only know for sure in 1907 because there were newspapers from 1907 in the walls. The house was recently rehabbed 2016. The owners kept what they could that was original and used a lot of repurposed materials. They are an artist, and a writer who created a space that they feel supports creativity, peace, family and rejuvenation. Due to the age of the house, the stairs are very steep. The entire town is very hilly. To get to the 1/2 acre yard one needs to climb down a hill. This may pose some difficulty for some people.

The house is kept chemical free. No synthetic chemicals are used in the cleaning of the house. No candles, air fresheners, no chemical bug or weed killer or febreze like products are allowed to be used in the house. Perfume is not allowed in the house. The only exception to this is Dawn soap under the kitchen sink to wash off poison ivy and SOS pads. Some of the soaps, disinfectants and cleaner, do have natural scents of lavender, citrus and peppermint in them. Since everyones level and type of sensitivity is different, please write me to discuss if we can meet your needs.

The water is filtered through a whole house filter and then again under the sink two filters take out chemicals and fluoride from the drinking water.

There is a massage therapist in town, her office is within walking distance, there is trusted child care available. If you need either, please let me know.

The entire house is for use for our guests except a few drawers, boxes under the beds and 2 kitchen cabinets which will be designated as "for the family."

Other things to note
Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn, spices, ketchup, and mustard are available. There is a full kitchen for your use if you want to use it. In the summer a barbecue grill is on the deck.

Two bicycles, and many games and books are in the house to keep you entertained or stimulate your creativity.

This is the country so there are bugs (yes sometimes in the house) and poison ivy, be prepared to see both. There is a picture of poison ivy on the refrigerator, please familiarize yourself with what it looks like (three leaves).

If you are using the art studio or designated writing space, view this as a group studio space shared by many people. It will need to be used with great respect for the others who follow you. Bring your own art supplies. There will be pencils, erasers, sharpeners, scissors, and water buckets for you to use. There is a sink in the art studio. If you are using plaster or clay be very sensitive to not letting those things go down the drain, as they clog the pipes. There is a printer in the writing space. There is a work bench in the basement that is next to a door that opens to the outside.

You do not have to be an artist or write to use or enjoy the space!

The living room features seating and a smart TV with a classic Nintendo system loaded with hundreds of old-school games from your past. The dining room consists of a dining table and bar. A built-in work station is located in the main hallway. A classic galley-style 3-season room is attached to the unit (please note, you need to exit the front door to access the room). Easy street parking is abundant. Cleanliness is our highest priority, including special attention to high-touch areas, washing of all bedding between guests, and recurrent UV light treatment of furniture and other surfaces. The unit is completely private with its own entrance and no shared spaces.

The space
Our cabin is a newly renovated home perfectly situated on the shores of the Mississippi River. There is a big yard with plenty of parking for you, your guests and a boat and trailer. Tons of large, mature trees provide peace and privacy. Whether you're sipping morning coffee or enjoying a sunset cocktail, you will have beautiful views of the river from the large deck or private dock.

Our home is designed for relaxation after a day of exploring. The main living space is the perfect setting to enjoy a meal overlooking the river, play games or to light a fire in the gas fire place and relax watching your favorite show on the smart TV. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, utensils, plates, bowls and more! The primary bedroom features a comfortable queen size bed and private bathroom with dual sinks and bathtub/shower. The second bedroom has two full beds. The peaceful outdoor space perfect for morning coffee or evening sunsets. Whether you’re here to hike, bike, golf, or simply unwind by the river, this home is your perfect base.

🚤 River Access & Dock

Please note that access to the river and private dock is via a set of steep outdoor steps. The steps lead you down the bluff directly to the water’s edge, making it easy to launch kayaks, cast a fishing line, or simply enjoy the views up close. While the steps provide an authentic “river cabin” feel, they may not be suitable for very young children, elderly guests, or those with mobility challenges.

Our river house sits on pool 13 of the Mississippi River, a beautiful stretch known for its wide waters, backwater channels and excellent fishing for bass, catfish and crappie. Wildlife is abundant, and the sunsets are unforgettable. Boaters should use extra caution as this area has submerged stumps and hidden hazards, so it is safest to stay in the main channel when navigating.
