I could not believe we did not need to bring anything but clothes and food ‼️ That is not where the surprises stopped , walked out on the back Deck , and was Thrilled to see a GORGEOUS Lake about 60 ft from the deck. Best part, I beat my husband 15 to 7 on catching fish count😂❤️ Will DEFINATLY be going back !"

Come and enjoy yourself in our semi-detached cottage during your stay in the heart of Amish country. Located close to everything while still being on a quiet street. Enjoy your morning coffee on our newly constructed covered deck located at the back of the house or take a quick walk down the street and allow the Bluegate Restaurant to make it for you. We are close to multiple playgrounds, miles of beautiful paved walking and biking paths, downtown shops and of course the flea market. There is a full service kitchen including a replica vintage stove. The master bedroom is located on the main floor off of the kitchen diner. It contains a queen bed and en-suite with both a shower and stand alone tub. While located on the first floor the master bedroom does a have a slight 2" step up. The second bathroom can be found at the bottom of the stairs just off of the living room. There is a queen bed hidden in the sofa. Up the stairs you will find bedroom #2 with a double bed and bedroom #3 with 2 twin beds. While these bedrooms are not connected with the central air system, each room has a window a/c to make sure that everyone sleeps comfortably even on the hottest night. Through the kitchen we have a recently renovated laundry room.

- "First off Jessica is a very sweet hostess, there was only 2 things that we did not like the house is so cute but the thermostat for the air was not working right would not shut the air off we had to turn it off completely. 2nd is they were working on the road digging and that was not her fault but they started at 6 in the morning and it woke us up everyday we were there. Jessica knows about the thermostat and she said they will fix that the road work will be done soon and i would stay there again in the future walking distance to town."

Enjoy our cozy, lake front cottage on Stone Lake. You are just off the I 80/90 toll road at exit 107. Water activities include canoeing, fishing, swimming. Lots of lakes in the area, but Stone Lake delivers the best water quality and our view delivers beautiful sunsets.

5 miles to Shipshewana, home of lots of Amish points of interest. Less than 5 miles to access of area wide bike path that connects to Pumpkin Vine bike path. We have bike riders stay just for that reason, and then relax by the lake after a day of riding.

For summer rentals, swimming area with a nice sandy bottom and Shore Station pier to enjoy the lake. Fabulous shopping in the Amish community with the famous Shipshewana Flea Market less than ten minutes away. Boat rentals available with a pontoon kayaks canoe and paddle boat

For winter rentals multiple month terms available inquire for special rates. Winter sports in the area like skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, ice fishing.

We are only a half hour from Notre Dame, perfect for game days or campus visits.

This cottage is wonderful for getaways and all season enjoyment. You may bring your boat or our fishing boat, kayak and canoe are available to rent. Fish in both Stone Lake and Mud Lake with easy access from the new public boat ramp. Fishing from our dock is easy and safe for the whole family. Kids love catching bluegill, perch, bass and catfish anytime.

The huge front deck is a great spot for evening sunsets. Awesome view of the lake from living room and master bedroom windows. Beautiful front and back yard with lots of room for games and kiddos to play. Cottage is well maintained, clean, cute and comfortable. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you may need. Lake community is very friendly. Washer/dryer, gas grill for your use. TVs in both living room and master with VCR and DVD. Central air and ceiling fans throughout. WiFi available is included. Central air and gas furnace keep the house cool and cozy.

Sleeps 9 with 2 bedrooms and loft. Towels and linens provided. Gas grill right outside on back patio. Fire pit available on the beach.

- "Attention to detail was appreciated Washer/dryer on-site was so convenient" - "We spent a week at this cozy cabin and it felt like going home to mom's. Very clean, well supplied in all ways, close to local activities, great porch for rain or shine, and beautiful sunsets! Kitchen is supplied with everything you need, including sharp knives! The cabin is not large but there is plenty of space for everything we brought for our own convenience. There are new stainless kitchen appliances and a new washer and dryer. We only used the master bedroom and can say it slept mighty good. David was awesome to work with and promptly answered our questions. Upon leaving, he asked for input to improve the place. Only thing I could come up with is that more washcloths would be helpful, the water is very soft so a bathmat and handicap bar would be safer and the loft stairs may be a bit challenging for for old folks like us. The place is just plain great! We hit the sights in Middlebury and Shipsee but also the Rise N Roll Bakery and dinner with friends at Jay Walkers, at David's suggestion. (Menu is in the basket} Recommend it all! Steaks and peppered bacon from Yoder's Meat and Cheese were great hits, too!"

- "This is a beautiful, updated property. This guest house has great beds & plenty of space to move around inside & out. The shower worked great & furniture was very comfortable. Very beautifully decorated and one of the cleanest places I have ever stayed. The owners were responsive & friendly. There is no air-conditioning, but to be fair, the discription did not list AC. The fans worked well & were very quiet. The guest house was a bit close to the owners home & the road. I did not expect this based on the pictures of the home. We enjoyed our stay & highly recommend this property. Thank you."

- "We were at LaGrange for our granddaughters 6th birthday. The stay was perfect to Reconnect as a family and enjoy what the area has to offer. Just what we needed." - "The farmhouse was perfect for our few days in Indiana, centrally located to other activities we were involved in during our visit. The owners of the property were so gracious to us, they have a beautiful farm and the milk they produce is delicious, even flavored! Landscaping is gorgeous!"

Unplug from the outside world ! No TV, wifi or internet makes this place a Haven of rest, relax and rejuvenate. Inside it looks a bit like my amish gramma's house did, very plain and simple, with more modern conveniences then my Gramma had back in her days !! Only sounds are the songbird, neighborhood children's laughter and the clip clop of horse and buggy. Watch the orioles and hummingbirds from the front porch ! Sit around the fire pit on the back patio or backyard. Feel the peace and quiet of a country, while being right outside ( 3 min) the town of Shipshewana.

A storm took a few of our favorite pine trees, we ask that you'll excuse the mess, we are waiting to get the tree stumps removed and more trees planted.

We have big back yard for children to run & play. Board games, Dominoes, Racko, Marble Board game.

Jason, a young Amish guy, the property manager/maintenance, resides in the basement. He keeps to himself, but if you happen to see him doing yardwork, feel free to have a chat with him, otherwise he will stay to himself. He has his own private entrances.

Pumpkinvine Bike trail is 1 mile from this house.

Blue Gate Theater and Concert is 3-5 min .

Flea market every Tuesday and Wednesday

4-5 min from MEC Center, go the back roads & by pass town.

- "The house was very clean and the host was very welcoming. Unfortunately, she was out of town and we missed out on meeting her! We enjoyed the back patio!" - "We chose this property because it fit the needs of two couples but we were so pleasantly surprised. The house was wonderful! It was clean and spacious. The kitchen was large and well equipped. Our mattress was just perfect! My favorite part was the front porch. I was surprised to find that even though we were in a residential neighborhood there were Amish all around us, on Sunday even holding an outdoor church service just down the road. I could sit on the porch and watch buggies and bikes all day! Just perfect! Also, Miriam was very responsive and sweet!"

It was furnished very nicely and the kitchen had all the dishes and utensils that we needed. The cabin is located on a main street in Shipshewana where many, many Amish residents pass by in their buggies. Our favorite pastime was sitting on the front porch and hearing the clip clop of distant horses hooves and waiting for them to pass by pulling a carriage. We will definitely request this cabin on future trips to Shipshewana"

However, you will also feel the peacefulness of the small horse and buggy town. You can enjoy a campfire and comfortable furniture on the back porch or read a good book you've been wanting to dive into. The kitchen is fully stocked and ready for you to enjoy cooking a spectacular meal in a brand new kitchen. Although, you might just want to eat every meal out and enjoy all the famous foods that this small Amish/Mennonite community is know for. You can also walk the pumpkin vine trail or take the bikes to the trail and enjoy a bike ride. There is so much to do within walking distance. You will love this location.

The neighborhood is quiet, the owners didn't disturb us at all! Swans, geese, and a variety of birds to see and hear. If I could only pick one thing to say about this location, I would definitely have to mention that the property owners provide absolutely everything and anything you could possibly need! The only negative would be the size of the shower and toilet. I am a big guy so small spaces are hard for me to maneuver, and the toilet is a compost unit and very small! The lake is over run with weeds (which is not the owners fault). The lake association needs to do a weed kill before it strangles the aquatic life out of the lake! All said, we had a nice peaceful weekend and would definitely recommend the "Tiny Boathouse"!"

Bedroom #2 has a queen bed. Bedroom #3 has a queen bed and small TV.
Upstairs living room has a new-style pull-out sofa bed and 65 inch TV. Please note that both TVs are ready for your app-hookup. While they do not have "cable TV" they do offer the free TV apps (like Crackle and PlutoTV).

Downstairs has a well appointed kitchen, a table to seat 8, and 4 stools for counter seating. There is a second living room area downstairs overlooking the lake with another sofa-bed. A number of games are available for indoor fun.

While here, you can enjoy the entire property. Please note that for access to the kayaks or canoe, a waiver must be signed.
We can refer you to nearby rentals if you are interested in renting a pontoon boat or E-bikes (which are a GREAT option for outdoor fun on Sundays, when many shops are closed).

We offer a private suite including a private bath, up to two spacious bedrooms with queen beds in each, and a sitting room with a pull-out love seat with a twin bed. Each bedroom has a small sitting space. The sitting room has a gathering space, a work/dining table, games, a DVD player, books, a coffee bar, and small appliances for food.

If you need only one bedroom, we place you in the larger room. No other guests use this space but your party.

For food preparation, we have a space in the sitting room with a small microwave, Keurig coffee maker, toaster oven, and small refrigerator. We do not have a full kitchen.

Staying true to our slower-paced location, we have books for your reading pleasure, and a DVD player, but no cable or smart TV.

The spaces you’re in are still home to our adult children when they visit. Family memories and our Anabaptist faith and heritage are intertwined in the decor. Heirloom quilts and bed coverings are displayed in each room. No cold, clinical generic Airbnb vibe here.

We have many books to read, including local history and rural nostalgia.

You are welcome to walk around our property, use the covered patio, sit on the swing by the creek, or use the hammock in the summer.

By booking this home, you're helping this family on their journey. You'll be in a subdivision but also minutes from the peaceful Amish countryside. You're also right outside the town of Shipshewana.

The home's focal area features a homey ambiance where you can spend countless hours.

It includes a large comfortable sofa that pulls out to a bed and a sofa chair. It also has a fireplace and a few games for a fun filled family game night.

A wonderful selection of amenities and spacious countertops to create a delicious homemade meal.

It's a full kitchen with a large dining room table, a small breakfast table, and a coffee bar to start off your morning with a delicious coffee. And of course, plenty of dishware and appliances available for you to use as well.

~ Sleeping Arrangements ~
There are three bedrooms available to use. And there is flexibility in sleeping arrangements if you have a larger party.

One bedroom upstairs has a queen bed with an attached master bathroom. The other bedroom upstairs has full size bed with a 32" smart tv. The bedroom downstairs has a queen bed. There is a sofa upstairs that pulls out to bed and then there is a sofa downstairs that is available to sleep on as well.

~ Bathrooms ~
The house features three bathrooms. All bathrooms are stocked with towels and toiletries that are essential.

The master bathroom has a tub and the other two bathrooms have stand up shower cabins. There are vanities included in all three bathrooms.

~ Basement ~
The basement is a large room with a sofa and two recliners along with a tv. Perfect for movie nights with the family.

~ Outdoor Area ~
There is a private deck with seating available and there is a lower deck with seating that creates a cozy vibe. The backyard also includes a fire pit with firewood available.

The house is all yours, so make yourself at home so you can relax and unwind. Someone may come and do lawncare on the outside or plow the driveway when it snows, but they will not bother you.

Experience the food, take in a show or do some shopping in Shipshewana. You can even catch game at Notre Dame (only 40 min away!) or just enjoy some time away with beautiful views year round!

The space
Our cozy little cottage is just that. It is not a large place, but it is cute & comfortable! Take this opportunity to make yourself at home, unplug and unwind! The cottage has an eclectic vintage vibe with plenty of blankets to cuddle up in to read a book or watch a movie.

We have a kitchen stocked with cooking & baking essentials, cups, plates & utensils. We have a regular drip coffee maker & keep coffee on hand but feel free to bring your favorite. We recently updated our gas stove/oven & refrigerator.

There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor. The first bedroom has a Queen bed, a chest of drawers & a closet to hang your clothes. The second has a double bed, chest of drawers & closet as well. The third & fourth beds (both queens) are found in the loft. This is a cozy little nook, but not recommended for little ones or anyone uncomfortable with climbing a ladder to bed.

The bathroom got a complete makeover recently including a brand new walk-in tile shower, new floors & pedestal sink.

Laundry is located by the back entrance with a few necessities included.

For the little ones, we have a pack-n-play & sound monitor in the 2nd bedroom. A folding high chair & a baby gate are located in the laundry area.

Our TV is connected to wi-fi so you can use it to log on to your Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and other apps.

This little lake cottage is a great getaway in any season!
During the warmer months, the lake has a lot to offer! We have 4 full size kayaks & 1 youth kayak available to use on our lake and area located between the docks is perfect for floating and little swimmers!

Fishing off the dock is highly encouraged or bring a boat to dock & fish out on the open water! When temps drop and the lake freezes over, you've got some ideal ice fishing!

We also have a wood pellet grill & a solo stove campfire ring for guests to use! You will need to bring your own wood for a campfire but we do supply pellets for the grill.

From outdoor & camping shows to furniture expos & craft fairs, auctions, rodeos, a variety of horse shows & the North American Morgan sale & Six-Horse Hitch classic series.
The Blue Gate Theatre & Blue Gate Performing Arts Center have something for everyone! They consistently bring in big names in country music including 90s favorites & current artists! For a trip down memory lane, they have tribute bands including classic rock, Motown, & 80s rock & classic country! They also have a variety of plays, musicals & clean comedy acts!
Don't forget to take in some delicious Amish meals from local restaurants & bakeries! Visit Yoder's Meat & Cheese Co & stop in at E&S Sales for a unique grocery experience! Of course Shipshewana is known for it's retail experience, so don't forget to head downtown to all the little shops, Davis Mercantile & check out all the beautiful Amish furniture stores!

This home has two bedrooms downstairs and three bedroom upstairs.

The living room, dining room & kitchen are open to each other, allowing you to enjoy each other’s company and not feel cramped.

Both the upstairs and downstairs have a full bathroom. ***NOTE: This is an Amish home and so you’ll see the old gas lights in the ceilings, however, those are not available to use. PLEASE ALSO NOTE: We did install several mini-splits so its stays nice and cool in the summer heat! Electrical is run throughout, including upstairs! This house is full of charm and is a GREAT way to experience a bit of simple living.

Plenty of yard space outside allows for kids to play all day long! A comfy patio set and grill make for a great time outdoor. Hear the horse & buggies pass by on the road. Enjoy some peace and quiet while sipping your morning or evening coffee on the front porch on the bench swing, surrounded by all the trees.

Spend all day at the local shops and come home to the quiet & peaceful home.

Need a place to stay for an event at the MEC? We are literally 2 mins down the road in the countryside, far enough away to not hear all the traffic.

A quiet neighborhood in a subdivision right outside of town. Away from the hustle & bustle, yet close enough to quickly get to & from your activities.

Sit on the front porch swing or rockers & enjoy the birds, bikes, occasional horse & buggy. Watch the Hummingbirds come for the nectar in the blooming flowers.

Feel free to give the houseplants on the front porch a "tiny sip " of water on the hottest days.

The back yard is ready for a BBQ ... gas grill, small fire pit (bring your own wood) but feel free to grab a log (from the far corner of the lot) for some color in your flame. The logs are from our apple tree. We just ask you don't just use that so there's some for our next guests.

the back patio is also yours to enjoy, although you'll see us occasionally as we come and go through the basement walkout entrance to where we reside.

It is a 2-3 minute drive into town (and just a 3 minute bike ride to connect to the scenic Pumpkinvine bike trail.) Bring your boat and fishing pole if you'd like and tether it to the dock.
This side of the lake is known for its breathtaking sunsets, great fishing, and ample bird watching. The outdoor space has been thoughtfully planned with ample seating around the firepit for sunset s'mores and stories. You'll have access to outdoor amenities (like 2 kayaks, cornhole game, washers, a telescope) so you can fully enjoy the beauty of being by the lake.
Parking is just outside the front door and should accommodate 4 cars easily.
The master bedroom sleeps 3 (1 King + 1 pull-out), bedrooms #2 and #3 each sleep 2 in comfortable queen sized beds, and each of the sofas can accommodate 2 when pulled out into beds. (Please ensure you register with the full number of guests to have access to all needed bedding and towels.)

Newly renovated 2200 square foot cottage by Shipshewana Lake, near Pumpkinvine Nature Trail for walking and biking. Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, new bathrooms and kitchen, and creature comforts that feel like home. One mile from downtown Shipshewana, minutes away from the action, but off the beaten path.

The space
Relax for a quiet stay in this charming, spacious, fully renovated cottage with ample parking, hi-speed internet, close proximity to lake and trails, and all the comforts of home. It's a 3-minute drive, 10 minute bike-ride or 20 minute walk to downtown Shipshe.

The fully-equipped eat-in kitchen has a table for 6, extra chairs in the closet, and all new appliances - fridge, gas range, microwave, dishwasher and disposal. There's also a mini-waffle maker, air fryer and bagel toaster in the pantry. Coffee drinkers, we've got you covered! The kitchen is equipped with a Keurig, drip coffee pot, electric tea pot and pour-over coffee carafe. And a coffee bean grinder!

The kitchen LED fan/light combo has a remote dimmer and adjustable fan. All bedrooms have ceiling fans, and all rooms feature multiple windows for plenty of natural light, all with cordless blinds for safety. The stove and all dressers are also anchored to the wall for safety.

There's easy parking for four vehicles in the driveway behind the house, plus two more parking spaces in front of the house, with room to park a boat with trailer, or an RV.

The cottage offers four large bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Two bedrooms feature Nectar king beds (one on the first floor, one upstairs) and one has a Helix queen (first floor). The other upstairs bedroom has two comfy twin beds.

The first floor bathroom has a tub shower with grab bar. There's an oversized single vanity and large linen closet, with padded linoleum that feels nice underfoot. The upstairs bathroom has a glass shower. Everything is brand new, and there are lots of big, fluffy towels and oversized bath sheets.

The beds comfortably accommodate 8 adults, plus 3 more kids or adults with the futon, twin air mattress and Tatami mattress.

Extra outlets and charging ports are provided at all bedsides. The first floor bedrooms have 32-inch smart TVs, with Roku remotes and free access to apps (Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, HBOMAX, Peacock). The large first floor bedroom has a glider rocker with ottoman, and enough space to set up a portable crib. A portable Graco Pack 'N Play is stored in the closet.

The upstairs bedrooms have dormer windows with armchair rockers, if you want to curl up with a book and a cup of tea, or just relax before bedtime. A library of books, puzzles and games is built into the staircase. The large upstairs bedroom (with king bed) has a small oak drop-leaf desk workspace with chair. The other upstairs bedroom (with twin beds) has two closets; one doubles as a kids' playhouse, with a Dutch door, toddler chairs and childrens' books.

The living room features an extra-long couch, two chairs and a giant Italian leather sectional perfect for lounging, plus ottoman/ coffee tables. Two of the sectional seats offer electric recline to enjoy the 60-inch smart TV with Roku remote and free access to apps. There are plenty of extra blankets and throw blankets, which you may not even need - with plenty of insulation, the house stays cozy in the winter, cool in the summer.

You might get that snug-as-a-bug feeling like you're at grandma's house, only grandma updated - that's the vibe! It's a retro take on contemporary living. Past guests have commented that it's the perfect house for a multi-generational stay, offering the perfect mix of togetherness and privacy. Hummingbird Cottage is ideal for any family or group looking for a quiet stay that's close to the action, just minutes away from bustling downtown Shipshewana, but off the beaten path.

You'll find the comforts of home - extra toothbrushes, hairdryers, extra razors, iron and ironing board, sewing kit, flashlights, extra sunglasses, eyeglass repair kit, nail kit, velvet hangers, umbrellas, walking stick, scissors and other creature comforts, in case there's a need.

The house retains its original character. The white oak and red oak flooring has been redone in a natural matte finish that highlights the wood's authenticity. The original kitchen cabinets have been revived with fresh paint and there are new quartz countertops. The kitchen floor is made of repurposed antique barn beams. As with most lake homes, there's no basement.

The large back yard is enclosed with chain link fence and features a fire pit, cement patio and corn hole - you might see deer, wild turkeys, or maybe hear an owl hooting in the woods across the street after dark! Both the front and back of the home are well-lit with yard lights.

The cottage is one house over from the water, on Shipshewana Lake, with lake views from many windows. Catch the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, a short walk up the hill from the cottage, for walking and biking. The trail leads to downtown Shipshe (you'll end up near El Zorrito Restaurant). It runs about 30 miles, from Shipshewana, west to Middlebury, ending in Goshen.

The downtown area includes shopping, restaurants, the world's largest flea market (Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8-4 pm, May-September and most holidays), and entertainment at the Blue Gate Theater and Michiana Event Center (MEC).

Hummingbird is also convenient to other areas of interest. It is 45 minutes from the University of Notre Dame via the toll road. It is also 15 minutes from Northridge High School and downtown Middlebury, with tourist sites of its own.

Things to note:

The address of the house, 2840 North 900 West, Shipshewana, takes you to the back of the property, where the garage is, which can be confusing. No idea why the address brings you to the back of the house! Up to four cars may park in the driveway in back (on 900), and up to 2 in the front of the house (on 905). The front of the house actually faces North 905 West. Guests are welcome to park in the back but should walk around to the front door to enter the house via the keypad.

The area is popular with birdwatchers, where you might see blue herons, cormorants, grebes, swans, geese, woodpeckers and flickers, kingfishers, songbirds, redwing blackbirds, catbirds and more, and even bald eagles, if you're lucky!

Shipshe Lake is a fishing and boating lake - people don't typically swim. Public beaches in LaGrange County, about half an hour drive away, include Cedar Lake Beach in Howe, Dallas Lake Beach in Wolcottville, and Wall Lake Beach in Orland.

Summer 2024 update: Shipshewana Lake is experiencing issues with weeds; it is being treated, but it's not a quick fix. This may impede fishing.

The town of Shipshewana is dry, meaning no alcohol sales, unless you're going to a concert at the Blue Gate or an event at the MEC...

The space
This cozy cottage has everything you need to comfortably sleep 6 guests, or 7 if someone takes the couch. The house was "built" in 1900 but consisted of four walls, a roof and a floor, until it was "finished" in 2016, so it's basically new construction. Yes it has a furnace, water heater and every other feature of a new, modern house! Today's zoning setback rules dictate that you build your house at least 40 feet from the lake, but since this house predated those rules, it's about 10 paces from the lake.

The cottage is well insulated and is virtually sound-proof, and has central air and a high-efficiency furnace.

The roomy bathroom features a generous marble-top vanity, glass shower, separate tub, and plenty of oversized plush towels.

The kitchen features every amenity - microwave, disposal, reverse osmosis drinking faucet, ample cabinet space, full size refrigerator and gas stove, with granite countertops, as well as keurig and drip coffee maker.

The small bunk room has an Ikea bunkbed, which is bolted to the wall. There is a closet as well. All dressers and the stove are also fastened to the wall for safety, and the entire house features cordless blinds, also for safety.

The larger interior bedroom features a queen bed and a large closet.

The bedroom facing the lake doubles as a sitting room with loveseat and chair, or a sleeping room, with fold-out murphy bed. This room also features a closet.

The living room features a comfy couch, leather rocker, and small couch that folds out to a small bed. There is free wifi, a TV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs, puzzles and games.

A 20-foot deck spans the width of the house, facing the lake, and there's a firepit between the deck and the lake. There are bluegill and crappe close to shore, if you brought your fishing pole.
