Convenience meets relaxation and historic charm! This adorable vacation rental allows guests the choice of cooking their own meal in a fully stocked kitchen, or simply walking to any of the wonderful local restaurants to experience a variety of delicious cuisines.

This unit is an apartment, within a historic home, which hosts two other long-term tenants. After entering a shared foyer and going up a set of curved stairs, guests will have their own dedicated space completely. The only other shared area is the basement laundry room. The apartment itself (bedrooms, kitchen, living areas, etc) is yours completely and is not shared with anyone outside of your group. Keyless entry allows an easy self-check-in, and you will be greeted with a manual of suggestions for local restaurants and fun things to do nearby.

The house itself was built in 1861 and has gone through numerous updates throughout the last 150+ years; the latest update being in 2020.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS:
The home sleeps up to 6 people in the following areas:
-Master Bedroom: 2 people (King bed)
-Guest Bedroom: 2 people (Queen bed)
-Living Room: 2 People (fold-out queen 4" foam mattress)

BATHROOMS:
There is one full bathroom (with a tub).

KITCHEN:
The kitchen includes a stainless-steel sink, quartz counter tops, a peninsula with barstool seating for 2, a kitchen table and 4 chairs, fridge and freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, and blender. Dishware and spices/cooking oils are provided, along with coffee, tea, and sweeteners.

DESKS/WORK AREAS:
A desk is available for work; guests would simply need to bring their own computer to plug in. WiFi is provided.

TECHNOLOGY:
--A smart TV is provided with access to Netflix/Hulu, etc.
--Wifi is provided.
--The house has a boiler heating system with radiators throughout. Window AC units are controlled by you. If you do not want to utilize the devices, you can simply turn them off.
--A washer/dryer is available for your use (free) in the basement.

HEATING/COOLING
The house is on a boiler system with radiators for heat during the cooler months. There are 3 portable AC window units, for cooling during warmer months, along with 3 portable room fans.

PARKING:
Free street parking is plentiful in front/on the side of the house.

SAFETY NOTES:
1. This home is NOT baby-proofed. (We do not have outlet blockers, no furniture is strapped to walls, stairs do not have gates, there are no safety locks on cabinets, etc.) Some windows are low to the ground where curious kids could easily get out. Children must be accompanied by adults at all times, and guests are responsible for the safety of their children.
2. The stairs are steep (the house was built in 1861!). Guests must climb a full flight of stairs to get into the unit—Those who are not able bodied will NOT be able to easily navigate the home; although the house was updated in 2020, the age of the house does not render it handicap equipped.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
While I am happy to welcome guests of all backgrounds, I will only be accepting booking requests from:

--AirBnB users who are "verified" and who already have multiple positive reviews from other hosts. (A fully refundable $500 security deposit is required from guests who have no reviews. The $500 is returned once the cleaning crew confirms there are no damages, and the apartment is in good condition.)
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are NOT bringing pets. No pets allowed.
--A maximum of 6 guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed.
—I value my relationship with my neighbors and fellow tenants, so events/gathering/parties are not to be held by guests. In order to keep the unit in excellent condition for future guests, I am firm on these rules. I apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

While I do tend to be a “hands off” hosts, please note that I will also be in the lower unit during your stay.

CHECK-IN INFO:
--Guests who book will receive detailed check-in instructions on the morning of their scheduled arrival. All of this will be communicated through AirBnB messenger.
--A manual with our favorite local attractions will be provided. Please let me know if you’d like this in advance. I have tons of recommendations and love to support the best local businesses.
--Please note that Valparaiso is on Central Standard Time (CST), the same as Chicago. Check-in is between 4 and 7 p.m.; check-out is at 10 a.m. (unless other arrangements have been made with me).

May 2026 - September 2026, all rentals INCLUDE the use of the private pier and red 2018 18ft Sun Tracker pontoon with a 60hp engine!! Fuel for the pontoon and lifejackets for each guest are also included. Guests that plan on using the pontoon, must sign boat rental agreement and boater safety instructions. We cannot guarantee rentals in March 2026, April 2026 & October 2026 will include the pontoon. It depends on the weather and water temperature.

Leah's Lakehouse offers a breathtaking view of Flint Lake from the house, deck, patio and yard. With depths as deep as 75 feet, this 90 acre, all natural, spring fed lake offers phenomenal fishing year round!

Being recently remodeled and renovated, you will experience all the modern conveniences of a new home coupled with the quaint charm of a country lakehouse.

Fisherman come from all over to fish Flint Lake. The fishing, especially bass fishing, has been incredible this season. There are also northern, perch, catfish and other fish in the lake.

** THE HOUSE CAN ONLY HOLD 6 PEOPLE TOTAL. Parties, family gatherings, additional family members and additional friends are not allowed if it means more than 6 people will be at house. This includes “just for the day” or “just for a few hours.”

** Don’t forgot to bring your beach towels!

** If you plan on fishing from the yard or pontoon, make sure you have an Indiana fishing license!

** If you are staying more than a couple day, we will come by early in the morning to check/fill the gas tank (we will not disturb you). DO NOT fill the gas tank.

** Due to the pontoon, paddle boards, kayaks, etc the yards are equipped with two security cameras.

** If you are unsure if your rental includes the use of the pontoon, please send me a message. March, April and October rentals will include the pontoon WEATHER PERMITTING. If it is below freezing or there is snow in the forecast, the pontoon CANNOT be in the water.

On hot days we fished and floated in lovely Flint lake, on rainy days we enjoyed breweries, taphouses, giftshops, and college campus that Valparaiso has to offer. The frontage has a mud bottom so for swimming you want to jump off the pontoon and be comfortable in life jackets or noodles. Boat is in great shape and house AC and wifi were excellent when needed. Kayaks and paddle boards a big hit for my 11 year old twins. Highly recommend this rental for an easy Lakehouse getaway."

This perfect 3-bedroom home is walking distance to fabulous restaurants, local shops, antique store, breweries and wineries. There are multiple free parking spots off the main street to this property. Ramp to back entrance of home.

The house is located on a quiet residential street, but is close to downtown and another close-by commercial area. There are parks nearby and Valpo has a lot going on for all ages. The large yard includes a fire pit, a kid's play structure and easy parking for several cars. The hot tub, which we used quite a bit, is attached to the deck. The chickens, far at the back of the yard, were great fun for the kids, and Jo delivered a dozen of their fresh eggs. (For those that might be concerned with noise, the chickens were totally unobtrusive.) Jo was great with communication and quickly answered any questions we had. The Valpo location provides easy access to Indiana Dunes (we recommend the National Park side), to Chicago, and we had a great all-day visit to the nearby Lake County Fair - a truly midwestern fair with all the animals, contests, rides etc. Downtown Valpo has lots of nice shops and restaurants and various seasonal activities. Overall - we had a great stay and will definitely stay again if we are back in the area with our (three generation) group."

Parking is free but first-come/first-served around downtown. However, guests will be provided a parking pass upon check in allowing 1 vehicle to be parked downtown in any of the 6 designated parking lots (2 of which are only 600’ from the unit). To access this unit, guests will use a shared exterior entrance off Lincolnway. Once inside the building, there will be a keyless entry code to the unit with the code provided the morning of your scheduled arrival. The entire apartment is all yours!
