You'll be 25 minutes from the beaches of Lake Michigan/Indiana Dunes National Park, an hour from Chicago, and close to quaint towns and apple/berry picking orchards. This space is perfect for families & friends who want to relax or adventure outdoors!

To avoid any confusion, potential guests should thoroughly read ALL information below before requesting to book. (I promise that the info below will better prepare you for your trip and answer 99% of your questions!) ;) Thank you!

Convenience meets relaxation and historic charm! This adorable vacation rental allows guests the choice of cooking their own meal in a fully stocked kitchen, or simply walking to any of the wonderful local restaurants to experience a variety of delicious cuisines.

This unit is an apartment, within a historic home, which hosts two other long-term tenants. After entering a shared foyer and going up a set of curved stairs, guests will have their own dedicated space completely. The only other shared area is the basement laundry room. The apartment itself (bedrooms, kitchen, living areas, etc) is yours completely and is not shared with anyone outside of your group. Keyless entry allows an easy self-check-in, and you will be greeted with a manual of suggestions for local restaurants and fun things to do nearby.

The house itself was built in 1861 and has gone through numerous updates throughout the last 150+ years; the latest update being in 2020.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS:
The home sleeps up to 6 people in the following areas:
-Master Bedroom: 2 people (King bed)
-Guest Bedroom: 2 people (Queen bed)
-Living Room: 2 People (fold-out queen 4" foam mattress)

BATHROOMS:
There is one full bathroom (with a tub).

KITCHEN:
The kitchen includes a stainless-steel sink, quartz counter tops, a peninsula with barstool seating for 2, a kitchen table and 4 chairs, fridge and freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, and blender. Dishware and spices/cooking oils are provided, along with coffee, tea, and sweeteners.

DESKS/WORK AREAS:
A desk is available for work; guests would simply need to bring their own computer to plug in. WiFi is provided.

TECHNOLOGY:
--A smart TV is provided with access to Netflix/Hulu, etc.
--Wifi is provided.
--The house has a boiler heating system with radiators throughout. Window AC units are controlled by you. If you do not want to utilize the devices, you can simply turn them off.
--A washer/dryer is available for your use (free) in the basement.

HEATING/COOLING
The house is on a boiler system with radiators for heat during the cooler months. There are 3 portable AC window units, for cooling during warmer months, along with 3 portable room fans.

PARKING:
Free street parking is plentiful in front/on the side of the house.

SAFETY NOTES:
1. This home is NOT baby-proofed. (We do not have outlet blockers, no furniture is strapped to walls, stairs do not have gates, there are no safety locks on cabinets, etc.) Some windows are low to the ground where curious kids could easily get out. Children must be accompanied by adults at all times, and guests are responsible for the safety of their children.
2. The stairs are steep (the house was built in 1861!). Guests must climb a full flight of stairs to get into the unit—Those who are not able bodied will NOT be able to easily navigate the home; although the house was updated in 2020, the age of the house does not render it handicap equipped.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
While I am happy to welcome guests of all backgrounds, I will only be accepting booking requests from:

--AirBnB users who are "verified" and who already have multiple positive reviews from other hosts. (A fully refundable $500 security deposit is required from guests who have no reviews. The $500 is returned once the cleaning crew confirms there are no damages, and the apartment is in good condition.)
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are NOT bringing pets. No pets allowed.
--A maximum of 6 guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed.

However, guests will be provided a parking pass upon check in allowing 1 vehicle to be parked downtown in any of the 6 designated parking lots (2 of which are only 600’ from the unit). To access this unit, guests will use a shared exterior entrance off Lincolnway. Once inside the building, there will be a keyless entry code to the unit with the code provided the morning of your scheduled arrival. The entire apartment is all yours!

There is not a sleeper couch, so additional beds are not available, and the couch is a little small. However- there’s a pack-n-go if you have a baby or toddler. Was super helpful to have a washer/dryer in the unit. We did have to wash linens, towels, and some clothes during our stay, so it was great to have. We asked for an iron and ironing board and those arrived next day. There was no hair dryer- so that’s something to consider bringing if you need it. The only thing I would have loved was a full-length mirror. We had an event to attend and it’s nice to be able to check out your entire outfit when you dress. Plus- with multiple people, it’s helpful to have additional mirrors near outlets so people can be getting ready outside of the bathroom, while others are showering. The location was so close to the university- and you could actually walk to downtown Valpo if you wanted to. We drove because it’s a little more of a trek than we wanted to make. Overall, a really perfect spot and a great, attentive host!"

The apartment itself (bedroom, kitchen, living area, etc.) is yours completely and is not shared with anyone outside of your group. *Please note: This lower-level apartment contains low ceiling areas and low door frames. Guests over 5' 9" will need to be mindful of the low living room soffit (see pic) and low door frames. PARKING:
Free street parking is plentiful in front of and on the side of the house, as well as the back driveway. It is best to park in the back driveway as it is closest to the entrance to the garden apartment. Only 1 guest car may park in the back driveway.

UNIT PERKS:
--This rental includes TWO upstairs units within the same house. The apartments are on the second floor and are separated by a wall, but under the same roof: a great solution for traveling families who want to travel together with privacy. Each unit has its own living space, dining space, and kitchen with a fridge/freezer, sink, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, blender & coffee maker. Essentials like plates, cups, cookware, utensils, & paper towel will be provided for your use.
--Along with coffee, creamer and sweetener are provided.
--Cooking spray, olive oil, salt/pepper are provided.
--Each unit has its own bathroom. A hair dryer and showering essentials/bath towels are available.
--All bedrooms have some form of dresser storage and hangers for clothing storage. There is also an iron and ironing board in each unit.

The units are within a historic home which hosts two other long-term tenants. After entering a shared foyer and going up a set of curved stairs, guests will have their own dedicated spaces completely. The only other shared area is the basement washer/dryer. The apartments themselves (bedrooms, kitchen, living areas, etc) are yours completely and are not shared with anyone outside of your group. Keyless entry allows an easy self check-in, and you will be greeted with a manual of suggestions for local restaurants and fun things to do nearby.

The house itself was built in 1861 and has gone through numerous updates throughout the last 150+ years; the latest update being in 2022.

1. This home is NOT baby-proofed. (We do not have outlet blockers, no furniture is strapped to walls, stairs do not have gates, there are no safety locks on cabinets, etc.) Some windows are low to the ground where curious kids could easily get out. Children must be accompanied by adults at all times, and guests are responsible for the safety of their children.
2. The stairs are steep (the house was built in 1861!). Guests must climb a full flight of stairs to get into the units—Those who are not able bodied will NOT be able to easily navigate the home; although the house was updated in 2020, the age of the house does not render it handicap equipped.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
While I am happy to welcome guests of all backgrounds, I will only be accepting booking requests from:

--AirBnB users who are "verified" and who already have multiple positive reviews from other hosts. (A fully refundable $500 security deposit is required from guests who have no reviews. The $500 is returned once the cleaning crew confirms there are no damages, and the apartments are in good condition.)
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are not bringing pets.
--A maximum of 12 guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed.

While the restaurant is a great addition, please don’t let it detract from your Inn guests. Better Inn signage, reserved parking for Overnight guest, and keeping doorway clear would greatly enhance the arrival process. 2) Room Information Guide - While our room did have a guide the information was not up to date and so it was pretty useless. Spending the time to update the info and bring it to the level of the rest of the place would be very helpful. Most of the stuff is no longer even available since the renovation and new ownership. The menus at The Abbey were gorgeous, so let’s make the room info match and provide a sense of continuity and consistent quality between the two. 3) Accurate amenity description - if there was a workout room, sauna, or pool, I could not find it. Either delete this from the website or provide info to guests. 4) Poor WiFi - this is an easy fix. Install some new technology to bring a stronger signal to your guests. These little details will provide a much better guest experience. You’ve nailed the big things, now take care of those final touches and you’ll have a 5 star review. Looking forward to coming again and seeing these small changes!"

To avoid any confusion, potential guests should thoroughly read ALL information below before requesting to book. (We promise that the info below will better prepare you for your trip and answer 99% of your questions!) ;) Thank you!

This apartment (fully updated in 2025) sits among four other private units, all under the same roof of a historic home. Note that this apartment has its own private entrance, and everything shown in the photos for the listing is your own private space. You will have your own living area, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom--these areas are not shared with other guests. The only area shared with other guests is the outdoor area (foyer, picnic tables, backyard/front yard, front porch, bags/cornhole game, laundry room).

CHECK-IN INFO:
--Guests who book will receive detailed check-in instructions around 10 AM (CST) on the morning of their scheduled arrival. All of this will be communicated through messenger.
--A manual with our favorite local attractions will be provided.
--Please note that Valparaiso is on Central Standard Time (CST), the same as Chicago. Check-in is between 4 and 9 p.m.; check-out is at 10 a.m. (unless other arrangements have been made with us).
--Our cancellation policy is moderate. That being said, if you do need to cancel your reservation within 5 days of your booking and we are able to re-book your days with another guest, we will gladly refund you for the amount that we’re able to recoup by new guests. (Some platforms charge service fees that we’re not responsible for—which will be their discretion to refund you.)

Other things to note
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS:
The apartment sleeps a maximum of four people in the following areas:
-Master Bedroom: 2 people (Queen bed & ceiling fan.)
-Two twin beds in second bedroom: 2 people (Oscillating Fan. Please note: This bedroom has sloped ceilings, so is best suited for children. While it can accommodate adults, the ceiling height is low, and so all guests will need to be mindful of their heads.

BATHROOMS:
-There is one full bathroom with a tub and vanity. It is equipped with fresh towels, rags, shampoo, conditioner, body wash/soap, and a hair dryer.

KITCHEN:
The kitchen includes a sink, quartz counter tops, a kitchen table and 4 chairs, a fridge and freezer, an electric stove/oven, microwave, toaster, drip coffee maker, hand mixer, and blender. Basic dishware, bakeware, stovetop ware, and silverware are provided, ground coffee, some form of creamer and sweetener, along with salt and pepper. We also provide some form of cooking oil (such as canola, olive, vegetable, etc) OR cooking spray. Brands provided depend on what's in stock at local stores, so if you have specific brand/flavor preferences for these items, please feel free to bring your own. :)

DESKS/WORK AREAS:
While this particular apartment does not have its own private desk, a shared desk is available in the foyer (prior to entering your unit). Simply bring your own computer; WiFi is provided.

TECHNOLOGY:
--We hope you choose to enjoy the outdoors and use your time here to disconnect and recharge, but a large-screen smart TV is also provided in the living room. Simply log into any one of your own subscription accounts (Netflix/Hulu/etc) for streaming.
--A washer/dryer is available for your use in the basement. (Shared space with other guests.)

Shared Laundry Access:
Guests may use the shared washer and dryer between 4 PM and 10 AM. Please note the laundry is reserved for our cleaning team between 10 AM and 4 PM.

PARKING:
There is free street parking in front of the home. Please note that parking is only allowed on the WEST side of the street (the side opposite of the home), but we've never had any issues finding a spot nearby. :)

OUTDOOR AREAS:
Shared Outdoor Areas: There is also a backyard firepit with 8 chairs, a cornhole/bags set, as well as three wooden picnic tables surrounded by string lights for any guests to use. Please note that you may see renters of other apartments utilizing these outdoor areas. While we used to supply firewood, it attracted rodents--and so we now ask that guests bring their own firewood if they'd like to have a bonfire. We also ask that guests be mindful of their volume, as many of the bedrooms in the apartments face the back of the home. Sound machines are provided in every sleeping area, and we do ask that guests follow quiet hours as to not to disturb other travelers. :)

SAFETY NOTES:
1. The apartment is NOT baby-proofed. (We do not have outlet blockers, no furniture is strapped to walls, there are no safety locks on cabinets, etc.) Children must be accompanied by adults at all times; guests are responsible for the safety of their children.
2. There are historic, steep steps up to this second floor apartment.
3. We always remind guests to check themselves for ticks after spending time outdoors. Our property is sprayed monthly (inside and out) for bugs, but given the age of the home and the surroundings, you may see a spider or two while here. This is not a matter of not being clean—it’s simply a matter of renting in a historic home. :)

ADDITIONAL INFO:
While we welcome guests of all backgrounds, we will only be accepting booking requests from:

--Users who are "verified" and who already have multiple positive reviews from other hosts.
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are not bringing pets.
--A maximum of 4 guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed.
—We value our relationship with our neighbors, events/gatherings/parties are not to be held by guests. In order to keep the house in excellent condition for ourselves and for future guests, we are firm on these rules. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

If you do not have previous positive reviews from past trips, we do require a fully refundable $500 damage deposit. The house attached to the studio apartment is off limits to all guests as there is someone renting it full time. Also the front porch with grill and hammock swings is off limits to guests as that belongs to the tenants of the house. Lastly, the garage is off limits to all guests and is locked at all times.

Parking is available in the parking lot located on the property. To access this apartment, guests will use a shared exterior entrance into the front door of the main building. Once inside the building there are 3 flights of stairs up to the top floor. There will be a lock box outside this apartment unit's door and the codes will be provided the morning of your scheduled arrival. The entire apartment unit is all yours! Guests will also be given the code to the rear building entrance to use if desired.

Other things to note
There are tenants that live below this top level apartment so please be respectful to those individuals below keeping the noise and commotion to a minimum. You may periodically hear minimal noise from other tenants as well as the hustle and bustle of downtown life but this apartment building is generally very quiet and peaceful. We ask that our guests also do their best to keep noise to a minimum as well. We have provided Dohm sound machines in each bedroom for your convenience.

This unit is a garden (lower level/basement) apartment, within a historic home, which also hosts other long-term tenants and other travelers. After entering a shared side porch, inputting an entry code and going downstairs, guests will have their own dedicated space. The only other shared areas are the outdoors and the laundry room. The apartment itself (bedroom, kitchen, living area, etc.) is yours completely and is not shared with anyone outside of your group. Keyless entry allows an easy self check-in, and you will be greeted with a manual of suggestions for local restaurants and fun things to do nearby.

*Please note: This lower-level apartment contains low ceiling areas and low door frames. Guests over 5' 9" will need to be mindful of the low living room soffit (see pic) and low door frames. An electric faux fireplace heater and another portable space heaters are available if needed during cooler months. Dehumidifiers are also on site.

PARKING:
Free street parking is plentiful in front of and on the side of the house, as well as the back driveway. It is best to park in the back driveway as it is closest to the entrance to the garden apartment. Only 1 guest car may park in the back driveway.

The space

This apartment (fully updated in 2025) sits among four other private units, all under the same roof of a historic home. Note that this apartment has its own private entrance, and everything shown in the photos for the interior of the listing is your own private space.. You will have your own living area, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom--these areas are not shared with other guests. The only area shared with other guests is the outdoor area (foyer, picnic tables, backyard/front yard, front porch, bags/cornhole game, laundry room).

CHECK-IN INFO:
--Guests who book will receive detailed check-in instructions around 10 AM (CST) on the morning of their scheduled arrival. All of this will be communicated through messenger. We often will meet you at the farm to show you around as you check in.
--A manual with our favorite local attractions will be provided.
--Please note that Valparaiso is on Central Standard Time (CST), the same as Chicago. Check-in is between 4 and 7 p.m.; check-out is at 10 a.m. (unless other arrangements have been made with us).
--Our cancellation policy is moderate. That being said, if you do need to cancel your reservation within 5 days of your booking and we are able to re-book your days with another guest, we will gladly refund you for the amount that we’re able to recoup by new guests. (Some platforms charge service fees that we’re not responsible for—which will be their discretion to refund you.)

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS:
The apartment sleeps a maximum of four people in the following areas:
-Master Bedroom on the main floor: 2 people (King bed & ceiling fan.)
-Pull-out couch in the living area: 2 people (Queen sleeper sofa & ceiling fan)

BATHROOMS:
-There is one full bathroom with a tub and vanity. It is equipped with fresh towels, rags, shampoo, conditioner, body wash/soap, and a hair dryer.

KITCHEN:
The kitchen includes a sink, quartz counter tops, a kitchen table and 4 chairs, a fridge and freezer, an electric stove/oven, microwave, toaster, drip coffee maker, hand mixer, and blender. Basic dishware, bakeware, stovetop ware, and silverware are provided, as well as salt/pepper and cooking oil.

DESKS/WORK AREAS:
A desk is available in the living room for work. Simply bring your own computer, WiFi is provided.

TECHNOLOGY:
--We hope you choose to enjoy the outdoors and use your time here to disconnect and recharge, but a large-screen smart TV is also provided in the living room. Simply log into any one of your own subscription accounts (Netflix/Hulu/etc) for streaming.
--This apartment is connected to a central HVAC system, shared by this apartment and two others. Temperature sensors in the unit are designed to regulate the temperature to a comfortable level for guests. There are also ceiling fans and extra blankets provided.
--A washer/dryer is available for your use in the basement. (Shared space with other guests.)

PARKING:
There is free street parking in front of the home. Please note that parking is only allowed on the WEST side of the street (the side opposite of the home), but we've never had any issues finding a spot nearby. :)

Shared Outdoor Areas:
Rocking chairs are just outside your apartment on the covered porch. Enjoy your morning coffee! There is also a backyard firepit with 8 chairs, a cornhole/bags set, as well as three wooden picnic tables surrounded by string lights for any guests to use. Please note that you may see renters of other apartments utilizing these outdoor areas. While we used to supply firewood, it attracted rodents--and so we now ask that guests bring their own firewood if they'd like to have a bonfire. We also ask that guests be mindful of their volume, as many of the bedrooms in the apartments face the back of the home. Sound machines are provided in every sleeping area, and we do ask that guests follow quiet hours so as to not to disturb other travelers. :)

SAFETY NOTES:
1. The apartment is NOT baby-proofed. (We do not have outlet blockers, no furniture is strapped to walls, there are no safety locks on cabinets, etc.) Children must be accompanied by adults at all times; guests are responsible for the safety of their children.
2. There are two steps up to a deck before guests can enter the apartment.
3. We always remind guests to check themselves for ticks after spending time outdoors. Our property is sprayed monthly (inside and out) for bugs, but given the age of the home and the surroundings, you may see a spider or two while here. This is not a matter of not being clean—it’s simply a matter of renting in a historic home. :)

While we welcome guests of all backgrounds, we will only be accepting booking requests from:

--Users who are "verified" and who already have multiple positive reviews from other hosts.
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are not bringing pets.
--A maximum of 4 guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed.
—We value our relationship with our neighbors, events/gatherings/parties are not to be held by guests. In order to keep the house in excellent condition for ourselves and for future guests, we are firm on these rules. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

***As hosts, we have sustained damages to our properties in the past. Because we value our relationships with our neighbors and because we aim to keep the properties in top condition, we do require guests to have previous positive reviews from past trips. If you do not have previous positive reviews from past trips, we do require a fully refundable $500 damage deposit. Basic dishware, bakeware, stovetop ware, and silverware are provided, ground coffee, some form of creamer and sweetener, along with salt and pepper. We also provide some form of cooking oil (such as canola, olive, vegetable, etc) OR cooking spray. Brands provided depend on what's in stock at local stores, so if you have specific brand/flavor preferences for these items, please feel free to bring your own. :)

DESKS/WORK AREAS:
While this particular apartment does not have its own private desk, a shared desk is available in the foyer (prior to entering your unit). Simply bring your own computer; WiFi is provided.

Just 25 minutes from Lake Michigan/Indiana Dunes National Park, an hour from Chicago, and close to quaint towns and apple/berry picking: perfect for families & friends who want to relax or adventure!

UNIT PERKS:
--This rental includes TWO upstairs units within the same house. The apartments are on the second floor and are separated by a wall, but under the same roof: a great solution for traveling families who want to travel together with privacy. Each unit has its own living space, dining space, and kitchen with a fridge/freezer, sink, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, blender & coffee maker. Essentials like plates, cups, cookware, utensils, & paper towel will be provided for your use.
--Along with coffee, creamer and sweetener are provided.
--Cooking spray, olive oil, salt/pepper are provided.
--Each unit has its own bathroom. A hair dryer and showering essentials/bath towels are available.
--All bedrooms have some form of dresser storage and hangers for clothing storage. There is also an iron and ironing board in each unit.
--Small beach toys for kids and a large woven beach towel is provided for each guest.
--A few board games are available for your use.
--Free public parking allows guests to park in front of/beside the house with ease.

Convenience meets relaxation and historic charm! These adorable vacation rentals allow guests the choice of cooking their own meal in a fully stocked kitchen, or simply walking to any of the wonderful local restaurants to experience a variety of delicious cuisines.

The units are within a historic home which hosts two other long-term tenants. After entering a shared foyer and going up a set of curved stairs, guests will have their own dedicated spaces completely. The only other shared area is the basement washer/dryer. The apartments themselves (bedrooms, kitchen, living areas, etc) are yours completely and are not shared with anyone outside of your group. Keyless entry allows an easy self check-in, and you will be greeted with a manual of suggestions for local restaurants and fun things to do nearby.

The house itself was built in 1861 and has gone through numerous updates throughout the last 150+ years; the latest update being in 2022.

--The house has a boiler heating system with radiators throughout. Portable AC units are controlled by you. If you do not want to utilize the devices, you can simply turn them off.

2. The stairs are steep (the house was built in 1861!). Guests must climb a full flight of stairs to get into the units—Those who are not able bodied will NOT be able to easily navigate the home; although the house was updated in 2020, the age of the house does not render it handicap equipped.
