Also we thought cable is included but you would have to log in on your own account. Overall we had a great time with our stay especially our furbabies. It was mentioned it gets hot for their paws so now we know next time have them wear shoes or booties. The appointed person is very attentive and always available when we had questions. - "This was the cleanest VRBO we have ever stayed in! The beds were comfortable. I would say, if there were any downsides, it would be that the property was sparsely furnished, which meant there wasn’t a lot of seating in the living room area to watch TV, but it worked for our family. It might not if you had more than 4. But really, that was pretty minor compared to the pluses of this property. The walk down to the beach was pretty short, which meant we were able to walk down anytime we wanted to, which allowed us to go in the evenings when it was less crowded and enjoy the sunsets and swimming. There was beach parking, for those who didn’t want to walk, but as far as we could tell, it was $15/day, so we just walked down. The property was quiet and the neighborhood was too. It was only a 15-20 minute drive to Indians Dunes National Park. We didn’t go to the zoo, but it was also very close. The lighthouse museum and pier were nearby and we were able to take advantage of fishing opportunities while there. Overall, our stay was lovely and I recommend this property."

This historic home, originally built in the early 1900s, was thoughtfully redesigned and remodeled into four private units in the early 2000s. The property retains much of its original Victorian charm, including beautiful wood plank floors, high ceilings, gables, wide arches, and classic staircases. At the same time, modern upgrades were added, including fully equipped kitchens, upgraded electrical systems, and individual central air conditioning and heating in each unit, offering the perfect blend of old-world elegance and contemporary comfort.

- "This property is located next to many excellent restaurants in the area and just a short drive to the national park which was the reason for our visit. For two couples it was great for two days. The area was a little busy during the day but very quiet at night. The King master bed was very soft and the twin beds were firm. There were plenty of supplies in the kitchen and plenty of bath towels. Loved the extras of having some toiletries available. Loved the book that the hosts prepared, very informative. Would love to have some local channels on the TV but this seems to be a problem in most rentals we stay in. Overall would recommend this place."

The deposit is returned on your day check out when the cleaning team arrives and confirms the property is in good condition.***

***Note that the neighborhood itself is transitional, and while our guests have never had safety issues while staying with us, the area hosts eclectic mix of people: both locals and tourists. The police station is less than a mile away, along with many other popular restaurants and attractions. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to read previous location ratings/reviews from other guests, and/or reach out prior to booking.

***Note that there are train tracks a few blocks away. When a train goes by, you may hear the whistle. Train schedules vary greatly so there is no telling how often you will hear it while vacationing—Many of our guests have said they never heard it, some others say they were bothered by it. We've provided sound makers in each room (and beside the futon) for light sleepers. The vast majority of our guests do not complain of the train, but you are welcome to bring ear plugs for nighttime if you’re a light sleeper or if you’re concerned.

- "Me and my wife enjoyed every single space of this wonderful house (home for us). The service was absolutely great, professional and everything we needed for a cozy stay was provided. This place was perfect for that, although we picked a poor time to go as it was a little too cold for the beach but we were still able to enjoy what the area had to offer. We ate at several great restaurants and visited the outlet mall and even stopped by the casino for a few. The house is in a great location to various restaurants, bars and shopping. The Ritz Klub right next door had THE BEST bone-in wings we had ever experienced. We went to the Shoreline Brewery for dinner and we were not disappointed! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. We also went to Mateys per suggestion from some friends but the food wasn’t that great and I think they are more known for their atmosphere of being a multi-level bar. The house itself was VERY clean and we had plenty of room to spread out. We were greeted with some popcorn, a bottle of wine and a sweet welcome note. There was a guest book that you can sign (we forgot to sign it) and information for things to do in the area. There was also a nice surprise of coffee for us as well. It was a local brand that we ended up really liking and so we ordered some when we got home. I love that they are supportive of local vendors! Overall, this place was great and we would definitely stay here again for our next visit. Thanks for a great experience!"

- "We had a few bumps along the way. But Ed was really great in communicating with us the entire weekend. My kids and I LOVED staying here and have agreed that this is our #1 choice for next year. Only negative was on us and not the property, and that is my crew can be slightly loud and there are long term tenants upstairs that you need to be respectful of. Aside from that, we were close to EVERYTHING, The Light House Place, Blue Chip Casino, the BEACH!! If you are an older group, there is the brewery right around the corner in walking distance. The house is so spacious that you are never on top of anyone else in the house. The bunk beds in the photos does not give them justice- you can fit 2 on the lower bed for sure. Stay in a beautifully restored studio in the Uptown Arts District of Michigan City. This studio, is less than a block to Franklin Street. Easily within walking distance of so many new restaurants, and coffee shops. This elevated studio used to be home to a storefront, and has amazing light. The furniture is all beautifully done, as you can see in the pictures. Spend the day at the beach, and then relax and unwind in the heart of the Uptown Arts District. Honestly, have the best of both worlds!

- "The proximity to the beach is perfect." - "Biggest bonus was the beach was walking distance. Place was nice and clean & included two beach chairs which was a nice little surprise. There was parking just for this property but it was very limited and street parking was a nightmare. The zoo was walking distance which was nice. Property was listed as one bedroom with additional pullout couch but the couch just had an addition you pull out to make longer so it wasn't a bed nor long enough for my two teens that are hardly 5ft 8. The cute balcony would have been a nice place to relax but the outdoor furniture was just some old wooden chairs. The unit does NOT have a washer & dryer. The building has a coin operated washer and dryer which is off limits at certain times. The bedroom door doesn't actually shut all the way and the front door has an interior door knob so the only lock is the keypad which didnt feel safe since the other units were all occupied. We still had a great trip and only used the rental as a place to sleep"

--This rental includes a kitchen with a fridge/freezer, sink, stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven, blender & coffee maker. Essentials like plates, cups, cookware, utensils, & paper towel will be provided for your use. Guests can gather around the large peninsula to enjoy each other’s company over a good meal! (Please note that there is not a dishwasher at this property.)
--Along with coffee, creamer and sweetener are provided.
--Cooking spray, olive oil, salt/pepper are provided.
--Small beach toys for kids and a large woven beach towel is provided for each guest.
--Free public parking surrounds this home.
--The bathroom includes a full tub. (Please note: Because this unit is historic, the ceilings are low in the bathroom and laundry area—Slightly over 6 feet. Tall guests will need to be mindful.) The irony of naming this unit “Scenic Skies” when it has a small portion of low ceilings is not lost upon us. ;)
--A hair dryer and showering essentials/bath towels are available. Each bedroom has clothing storage and hangers. There is also an iron and ironing board.

SLEEPING SET UP:
Scenic Skies sleeps max of 6 people: One bedroom (king bed), another bedroom (queen bed) and a living area large enough to lay down the additional 4” foam floor mattress (queen sized). Mattresses provided on the beds are Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattresses.

TECHNOLOGY:
--A large, flat screen smart TV is hooked up in your living area, though we recommend the outdoors over the tube! ;)
--High Speed Wifi is provided.
--A washer/dryer is available for your use.

OUTDOOR SPACE:
--The shared outdoor space in the backyard is accessible by going down the stairs from the back bedroom. Outdoor Edison bulb lights surround a heavy duty wooden picnic table (seats 8), as well as a firepit with benches surrounding it. Roast a s’more and enjoy! Note that this space is shared with guests in the other two units below the Scenic Skies Unit, so you may see them outside utilizing this area as well.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
We welcome guests of all backgrounds! However, due to prior disrespectful renters and property damage, we will only be accepting booking requests from:
--AirBnB users who are "verified" and who already have positive reviews from other hosts.
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are not bringing pets.
--A maximum of six guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed. If you have more travelers and would like to rent more than one unit, feel free to click on our profile to see “The Sunshine House: Wild Woodlands Unit” and "The Sunshine House: Breezy Beach Unit.” This will allow you to rent the other private units within the house at the same time, sleeping up to 16 people total.
--We value our relationship with our neighbors, so events/gatherings/parties are not to be held by guests. In order to keep the unit in excellent condition for future guests, we are firm on these rules. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

***As hosts, we have sustained damages to our properties in the past. Because we value our relationships with our neighbors and because we aim to keep the properties in top condition, we do require guests to have previous positive reviews from past trips. If you do not have previous positive reviews from past trips, we do require a fully refundable $500 damage deposit. The deposit is returned on your day check out when the cleaning team arrives and confirms the property is in good condition.***

***Smoking is NOT allowed inside or around the property. If there is any evidence smoking occurred inside or within 50 feet of the property (smoke smell, ashes, paraphernalia, etc) there will be an additional $300 cleaning charge and/or loss of security deposit if one was collected.

***Note that the neighborhood itself is transitional, and while our guests have never had safety issues while staying with us, the area hosts eclectic mix of people: both locals and tourists. The police station is less than a mile away, along with many other popular restaurants and attractions. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to read previous location ratings/reviews from other guests, and/or reach out prior to booking.

***Note that there are train tracks a few blocks away. When a train goes by, you may hear the whistle. Train schedules vary greatly so there is no telling how often you will hear it while vacationing—Many of our guests have said they never heard it, some others say they were bothered by it. We've provided sound makers in each room (and beside the futon) for light sleepers. The vast majority of our guests do not complain of the train, but you are welcome to bring ear plugs for nighttime if you’re a light sleeper or if you’re concerned.

***Note that if you are bringing infants/babies, the unit is NOT baby-proofed. (Furniture is not secured to walls, outlet blockers are not included, cabinets/drawers are not locked, etc.) You assume responsibilities for all guests.

***Note that the lower units may be rented out at the same time, (their ceilings are your floor) so there is potential for noise from other guests.

***Note that the steps to this upper unit are incredibly steep. (The unit is historic and was built in the late 1800s.) If all guests in your party are NOT able-bodied, it will be difficult to access the unit. If you have non able-bodied guests staying with you, we recommend looking at either of the units below this one as an alternative.: “The Sunshine House: Wild Woodlands Unit” or "The Sunshine House: Breezy Beach Unit.”

Check-in is any time between 4-10 PM; you will likely have guests in the unit below you so if arriving late please be very mindful of noise levels; guests must check out by 10 a.m. so that we can clean/prepare for our next renters before they arrive.

The space
Janet and I have always taken great pride in having our units furnished, clean and tidy.

This cute apartment has all of the beautiful features of days gone by.
It is located in the historical district in Michigan City. Our building was built in 1882 and is the upper rear unit. It is a quiet, one BR with a full size bed and a full kitchen. The bathroom has an old time claw tub (great for soaking and reading a book) with a shower! Note: The toilet is in a smaller space and a larger person may find it uncomfortable.
Guest access
Parking is available on the street in front of the building or in the rear of our property. Walking uptown to the retail shops and restaurants is always fun and weather permitting; we are only 10 blocks to the beach. Uber is available in Michigan City as well!
Other things to note
Tub is a vintage clawed tub great for long baths.
Toilet area is small and difficult for larger guests. See picture.

This apartment has all of the beautiful features of days gone by. Located on the main floor, this apartment has the character of the building from when it was built in 1882. From the pine wooden floors to the arched doorways it boasts such a calming restful atmosphere that your trip will feel like you are at home. It does also have the modern features that will make your stay delightful. A full new tiled shower, dishwasher, internet and a king size bed will add convenience and luxury to your stay. If a security team is called due to an infraction of the house rules, the guest agrees to pay for the security team ($500 minimum) and the duration of the reservation, even if removed by the security team due to the infraction.
Blocking of RING camera's will lead to an AUTOMATIC EVICTION. No Refund will be issued and guest will be handed out a fine up to $500.
Please DO NOT flush feminine products/paper towels/any foreign substance down the toilet (ONLY toilet paper). It is not good for the pipes and if there is an issue we may pass the charge onto the guest.
Laundry room will be off limits from 11am - 4pm daily. Please plan accordingly! We will have to take laundry out if being used as our clean team may need the machines. If so, one may be subject up to a $100 fine.

The living room and bedroom are a shared space with a pillow top queen bed that is perfect for 2 people. There is also a sofa bed that we recommend for one person but can accommodate 2. There is one TV in this room that can be turned and tilted to be seen from all angles. This room also features a comfy chair, plenty of closet space, and blackout curtains for a peaceful nights sleep.

The kitchen has a full stove/oven, all cooking utensils, and pots and pans. There is a Keurig coffee machine with daily coffee pods supplied. There is also a standard coffee pot/maker in the pantry.

There is a full bathroom with a bath tub and shower. Soap, shampoo, and conditioner are also supplied.

There is free access to high speed wifi so you can sign in to your favorite media apps and work seamlessly.

This property has about 20 stairs to get to the apartment above a State Farm office. Close to downtown, 2.0 miles to Washington Park & Beach at Lake Michigan, 2.0 miles to Blue Chip Casino and 1.1 miles to the Lighthouse Outlet Mall. There is the South Shore train station 0.7 of a mile away. That train can take you to Chicago, Illinois or to South Bend, Indiana. Amtrak is 1.5 miles away. Michigan City Marina or Zoo are 2.0 miles away.

This historic home, originally built in the early 1900s, was thoughtfully redesigned and remodeled into four private units in the early 2000s. The property retains much of its original Victorian charm, including beautiful wood plank floors, high ceilings, gables, wide arches, and classic staircases. At the same time, modern upgrades were added, including fully equipped kitchens, upgraded electrical systems, and individual central air conditioning and heating in each unit, offering the perfect blend of old-world elegance and contemporary comfort.

Please note that if you plan to bring pets, there is a $50 pet fee per pet.

Welcome to the Cozy Getaway in Michigan City, part of a quaint 4-plex. Escape with family or friends near the dunes of Lake Michigan! This is a upstairs studio unit! Guests will love being able to walk to the beach, outlet mall, zoo, restaurants and shops. Minutes drive to hiking trails in the nation's newest Dunes national park, casino, wineries, boat rentals, splash pad and park. This is the perfect little getaway for up to 2 people who want to relax or adventure!

The space
Charming apartment with open concept. Has a full kitchen, dishwasher, breakfast bar, bedroom with king size bed and complete turn-key for your stay. Walk to restaurants, shops on Franklin St. and Outlet Lighthouse Outlet Mall. Washington park beach is 1 mile away, Zoo is about 1 mile away too. Dune State Park is about 10 mile drive.

Within 3 miles are Indiana Dunes National Park marshes, beaches, dunes, & hiking. Shady Creek Winery is minutes by car. Bottom line... tons to do and a clean, artsy place to stay!

The space
Uptown open-concept loft with an historic yet updated industrial feel. Has an original long brick wall and exposed ductwork. Designer-styled with a mix of leather and mid-century modern furniture and many original paintings. Built by Zorn in 1907, this Queen Anne style building has boiler heat and modern A/C for your comfort. Two thermostats you control. Fully equipped quartz and stainless kitchen is perfect for long stays and has a large breakfast bar that doubles as workspace. Includes WiFi and lots of outlets with room to spread out. Pod Keurig, microwave, dishwasher, blender, toaster, bakeware, 8 place settings, lots of glassware, and all necessary kitchen gadgets. Bedrooms are small/medium sized, well-appointed, and each has its own full bathroom. Horizontal slat blinds on all windows as well as black-out curtains. Guests gravitate with their morning coffee to the built-in seat under the bay window to watch the activity along Franklin St below.
Includes 1 on-site parking spot. Additional street parking is free 24/7. Entry porch w/ seating. Eateries, activities, & shops outside your door!
The loft is located above a hair salon, open 10 AM - 6 PM Tues-Sat. Due to the solid construction of our historic building and the considerate shop owner, we have never had an issue with noise or odors.

Single reserved on-site parking space directly in line with stairs to the loft is included. If bringing more than one car, there is ample free street parking in front of and alongside the loft building 24/7.

Other things to note
Pets: We do not allow pets in an effort to minimize allergens for all guests. For this same reason, we are strictly "no smoking."

TV: We have a smart TV, so bring your subscription service passwords and enjoy your usual streaming. We do not have cable, only an antenna for local channels.

Beach: The loft is only about a mile from the sandy beaches of Washington Park, so bring your beach towels and sunscreen! Central Beach and Kemil Beaches in Indiana Dunes National Park are 3 and 6 miles away.

This is a second story loft with no elevator. You ascend the exterior staircase to your porch and the entry door for the loft.

Walk to outlet mall, art galleries, parks, restaurants, and Lake Michigan beach. Walk or drive to casino. This is a 2nd-story apartment in Michigan City's historic homes. A full 1,400 sq ft of space!
