I live in a Victorian terraced house, roomy with high ceilings.

I offer room-only but you can help yourself to tea and coffee.

The fully-furnished double bedroom is on the ground floor as is the fully-equipped bathroom (I use the upstairs bathroom). There is free on-street parking. You can walk to the city centre in 30 minutes or catch one of the frequent buses, five minutes’ walk away.

Check in is usually 4 pm or later but I can be more flexible if you are coming to a match or gig.

The space
The room has a comfortable double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk, chair, bedside cabinets, small hairdryer, fan, wireless charger and lamps.

The bathroom has a bath, shower, sink and lavatory. I provide soap, hand lotion, shampoo, shower gel, loo paper and towels.

The bus stop is five minutes' walk from the house and there are buses every ten minutes or so to the city centre. You can buy a Day to Go ticket on any bus for £4.40 (cheaper if you use the app) and use any Cardiff Bus all day long, which will get you as far as Penarth and Barry as well as around the city.

This is a very roomy town house that sits in a cool and quiet part of Cardiff but within easy striking distance of town. I'm a retired BBC producer who has lived in Cardiff for nearly four decades - and in this house now for nearly twenty years

I know the city, it's hinterland and Wales very well and I'm happy to advise on the best things to do and how best to do them!

The space
This is a large, light and quiet room on the first floor at the rear of the house next to the bathroom with a super comfortable double bed, leather sofa, oak desk, and wardrobe.

Guest access
Feel free to use the well-equipped kitchen to rustle up the odd meal. There is also a large living room (with a wood burning stove when it's cold) and a quiet rear courtyard garden.

The house is surrounded by lovely and extensive parkland, it's a short walk to cafes, bars and a thriving arts centre with easy access into the city centre, Llandaff village and roads leading out into Wales. It's quiet and safe, on-road parking is a doddle and there's a secure locking bar for bikes. Expensive machines can be brought inside.

This is my home, and you will be very welcome! We shall try to make sure that your stay is as good as we can make it.
Situated on the MAIN road into Cardiff. Bus stop outside - 10 minutes to the town centre by bus. Please note WE ARE NOT WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE TO THE CITY CENTRE - phone maps tend to say that we are and this is misleading. We are Close to the pretty village of Whitchurch.
The annex is separate from the house - own entrance, keys and ensuite bathroom.

The space
The annex is clean and comfortable with walk in shower and WC. It overlooks the garden on one side, where you can sit and relax, at the moment the garden is in Summer bloom.
It is not a huge place, but it is comfortable and cosy.
I foster young people and so I cannot allow you into the house to use the kitchen. Please do not be offended if I refuse access.

Breakfast is NOT provided - there is a small supermarket just a few minutes walk from the house and a Toby carvery that does a lovely buffet breakfast for around £5. Three minutes walk away.
I provide a little welcome tray with tea and coffee but no milk (simply because there are so many different types)
Whilst I have rules, there is always room for negotiation (apart from the smoking inside) and I shall do my best to be flexible.
You have separate access, and can come and go without accessing the main house.
There is a lockbox also for those times when I cannot greet you.

During your stay
I am always available. If I am not at home, then only a phone call/text away. If you need anything, you only have to ask and please do ask. I will gladly try to resolve any issues as soon as possible rather than hear about it later in a review. (I don’t think that’s very fair on hosts really and seems to happen to hosts quite often) so please give us a chance!!!
Please note that maps have us as very close to the city centre. This is not entirely true. The bus from outside will take you ten minutes, but it is not really a walk able distance, and taxis cost around £10. Car travel can be frustrating at rush hour!!
The wifi is NOT good at all, so it is frustrating and best thought of as non existent.

Other things to note
We have dogs and they pretty much rule our house. Our dogs are all very friendly once they have said hello. They are smallish, but when they look in the mirror they see lions!
Eccelsiastes is the young cat that you may see on the window sills inside the house from time to time, he will talk to you through the window and tell you that he is being kept captive, unloved and unfed. This is not true. In fact he is prone to not giving a damn about other people's property and shreds, eats and destroys whatever takes his fancy, for this reason please do not allow him into the annex.

We also have visiting squirrels and the occasional city fox (but not at the same time)

Our home is less than 10 minutes from Cardiff Airport (2.5 miles). You’ll love our home because of the outdoors space, the peace and calm. It is in the favoured west end of Barry, walking distance to Porthkerry Country Park and Mill Wood. Nearby are plenty of coastal walks and beaches. There are good public transport links to Cardiff. My guests range from business travellers with long or short term contracts to couples and solo adventurers exploring our beautiful heritage. Restaurants galore!

The guest bedroom is in the dormer attic and has an en suite shower, toilet and basin which is not shared.There is an adjoining spacious room which offers office space for your use. There is hanging space and a chest of drawers together with a full mirror.
For your convenience there are tea and coffee making facilities in the guest bedroom.
You will also have access to our fast broadband service and WiFi connection for all work and leisure needs.

If you are travelling as a family you can request a double/ single air bed that can be made up in the adjoining study area.

Please note the dorma space is open plan without fixed doors. When guests book please be assured that this space is entirely private, despite the fact that it is open plan and there are no doors.
