The restaurant staff went above and beyond to help find meals that didn't contain my unusual allergies, and the food was absolutely lovely for dinner. Breakfast was a nice relaxed meal, although some patrons seemed to expect silver service and for their cooked breakfast to arrive in less time than it might take to prepare at home! It just goes to show that you can't please all of the people all of the time. All the staff were polite and appropriately friendly as well as approachable. - "Absolutely gob-smacked when we arrived at the Barnstaple Hotel, it was fantastic and totally unexpected. Staff were lovely, ambience great and it was just so welcoming. It was a fairly last minute booking, a one night stay and I hadn't really taken much notice of reviews etc. Great regret that I hadn't packed my swim-wear as the pools looked so enticing. Our room was so comfortable, such a shame that we couldn't spend longer there. Couldn't fault the hotel at all and we will definitely make a point of returning to Barnstaple and spending a few days at the Barnstaple Hotel, it was a holiday in itself."

The beautiful three bedroom Ford Hill Cottage in Kentisbury, North Devon is the perfect setting for a memorable holiday with friends or family. Located within a few miles of the nearby village of Combe Martin, the cottage is only a short drive from a beach and Exmoor. It also comes with the added bonus of a large, private games room.

Recently decorated to a high standard, the cottage effortlessly combines period charm and character with elegant style and sophistication.

Downstairs hints of red conjure a warm and cosy atmosphere for relaxing. The cottage is mainly open plan with a charming lounge at the centre and featuring a large sofa and two armchairs plus a large flat-screen TV and a cosy wood burner. The kitchen is to one side of the lounge, with a useful island with granite top and a handy drainage sink separating the two rooms. The kitchen has been completely refurbished and is beautifully decorated in soft pastel shades and wood flooring. It is very well equipped with a Rangemaster cooker, a coffee machine, a fridge/fridge, a washing machine and a dishwasher. At the other end of the lounge is the dining room, which is in a separate room and has a pine table and chairs for 6 people.

Upstairs are the three bedrooms where tones of blue and green are wonderfully calming for creating the perfect night's sleep. There is a large en-suite double bedroom, a further double with countryside views and a pretty with two full size single beds. The family bathroom is also on this floor and has a bath wc and sink.

Ford Hill is more than 350 years old and enjoys a lovely rural setting with a large garden to the rear and far reaching countryside views. There is a lovely patio with table and chairs and a BBQ ideal for al fresco dining, as well as a smaller, pretty patio area to the front of the house with table and chairs.

To the side of the cottage in the former garage, the cottage has its own fully-heated games room complete with wide-screen TV, table football, pool table, sofa and bean bags, the perfect place for the children to play for hours.

Very generous to see Nespresso coffee machine plus pods provided as well as a quality range of cookware that made meal prep a pleasure. We loved the area, walking into Coombe Martin and back on the first day. The hosts were very kind to us, in that we arrived in the area around lunch time, and were kindly allowed to enter the cottage, because it was ready, similarly when leaving, we were allowed extra time as there was not a following booking for a few days. Definitely recommended."

The tree large floor to ceiling in the lounge and the two bedrooms, had amazing views over the river and the estuary, to Crow Point. Luckily we had wonderful weather and in the evenings, we were treated to spectacular sunsets. Our dog enjoyed himself! Outside the front entrance there is a secure patio for the dog. Additionally, in front of the patio, the owner has a large field, with a public footpath to other fields. Located in Braunton is the William Arms. You can take the dog into the bar area. The food is excellent and home made, with a number of vegetarian options."
