Other things to note
Guests will be provided code for front security gate during their stay. All the roads leading up to the cabin are perfectly safe and easy to navigate. However, guests should always use special caution (and take things slow) driving up and down the mountain during inclement weather and foggy days. The roads can appear steep to the uninitiated but my 4 cylinder compact gets there and back easily. Please note that tobacco use of any kind is not authorized in and around the cabin and community lodge. No pets are allowed. While bear sightings are rare, please do not attempt to interact with them whatsoever. You will likely see lots of other wildlife up there. The cabin has great internet connectivity. Smart TVs in living room and two of three bedrooms. Desk with ergonomic chair can double for an office in the 3rd BR. TV streams Netflix, Max and several other major streaming channels. Allegheny Cabin is the perfect place to stay in wild, wonderful West Virginia. Perfectly situated and very secure you will love the cabin ambiance and lodge like feel.

Advance reservations are definitely required for the ninety minute Bunker Tour and are currently priced at $31.80.

Outdoor Adventures:

The Greenbrier River Trail is a 78-mile long rail trail that provides bicycling, backpacking, cross country skiing, and horseback riding. Following the trail is the Greenbrier River. This can also provide for boating and fishing while enjoying the beautiful surroundings that nature has to offer. If you like both then make sure you stay here during the Greenbrier River Race in late April. This mini triathlon provides a 3 mile run, 4 mile paddle in a kayak, and a 10 mile ride on a bike.

Lake Sherwood Recreational Area (30 minute drive) which is a part of the Monongahela National Forest can add extraordinary scenery and memorable moments to the trip. Visitors to this beautiful place will enjoy breathtaking vistas, peaceful country roads, hiking, gently flowing streams, lakes and a beach with swimming access. Cost to enter is just $5 per car. Snowshoe Mountain Resort can provide fun entertainment by skiing down a mountain or in the spring and summer outdoor recreational opportunities in the mountains and lake on the mountain.

The Cass Scenic Railroad provides an excellent trip on a coal powered steam engine to the top of Bald Knob and on a clear day you can see for miles around. Bald Knob is the highest summit of Back Allegheny Mountain and is part of Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. At an altitude of 4,843 feet (1,476 m) above sea level, Bald Knob is the third-highest point in West Virginia and the Allegheny Mountains. This trip will allow for the beauty of West Virginia to be explored.

Do not forget to take a scenic drive over the mountains on the Highland Scenic Highway. This is perfect for motorcyclists or those who like to stop at beautiful scenic outlooks that will take your breath away. This national forest scenic byway will take you from Richwood to U.S. Route 219, seven miles north of Marlinton. The Highway follows State Route 39/55 for 21 miles from Richwood to the Cranberry Mountain Visitor Center. It then turns onto State Route 150 for the 22 mile Parkway section and rises from an elevation of 2,300 feet to over 4,500 feet.

One can also find time to experience backpacking trips or day hiking on the wondrous Cranberry Glades, the largest bog in WV. A unique exotic ecosystem on 750 acres is home to 60 unique plant species. Early October is the best time to take hikes. The orange, reds, and yellows will explode over the mountain tops.

Lewisburg – A Historical Town

Just six miles west is Lewisburg, a WV certified arts community and national register historic district. This small town was named the Coolest Small Town in a Budget National Travel magazine. The buildings in this quaint town have weathered one of the most important wars in this country’s history, the Civil War. The shopping and dining also provides a small town atmosphere while providing arts and culture to the community.

- "Great house. Plenty of room." - "This is a great older home and even though it’s basically in the middle of town…it was always very quiet. The owners were easy to communicate with and always available. They kitchen was perfect for whatever you wanted to make, and there were plenty of spices, eggs, butter, coffees, oils etc, which I thought was a very nice touch. House is very comfortable and could easily support 8. Important to note that all the bedrooms are upstairs, and probably not suitable for the physically challenged. There is one bathroom upstairs and one downstairs. All in all, very happy we stayed there, and you probably will too!"

Pet friendly rustic mountain cabin sitting secluded on 70 acres and borders to the State Forest with walking distance to trails and disc course and 7 min drive to the Greenbrier Resort. The cabin has 3 bedrooms (third bedroom is the great room upstairs), including a queen size bed sofa, king bed and twin bed, also there are 2 camping cots that can be used in the living room. 1 full bathroom and a kitchen with all the common appliances and kitchen tools and a wood burning fire place. The AC in the house divided between 2 window units downstairs and a mobile unit upstairs, all bedrooms have fans. Outdoor patio with charcoal grill and a fire pit, firewood can be purchased at the gas stations.
Please NOTE there is NO WIIFII, CABLE or HOUSE PHONE. There are 3 TVs with DVD players and 1 BlueRay, and the living room has surround sound. We lived here for 4 years, I had a home office and I work with IT. We utilized a mobile hotspot for wiifii, with it placed in the window, we had enough bandwidth for me to download applications, attend teams meeting and our daughter streaming Netflix and TicToc. The TVs have HDMI, so bring a HDMI cable and your Netflix app and you can watch all the movies you want or bring DVDs.
The cabin has a large yard for the pets to run (no fence) and there is a built-in dog crate under the stairs in the cabin. The driveway is wide up by the cabin, you can turn around and park a camper up by the cabin.
The cabin has its own well, if you are used to city water, the well water will have a sulfur smell compared to city water. We have 2 purifying systems, but you might still taste a difference. The water is 100% ok to drink, and you will not have any discoloring on your clothing if you do laundry.
The cabin is 1400 sqft, it has the living standards of kitchen, bathroom, laundry etc. It doesn’t offer a luxury get away, it does offer evenings by the campfire, dark enough to see stars, wildlife will roam past and miles of trails and fishing options close by.
I have marked that it sleeps 8 with that number I am thinking a girls get away or men bachelor party. Its perfect for a family, but maybe not ideal for 4 generations with different sleep patterns.

We went whitewater rafting, fishing, swimming, biking on the Greenbrier River Trail, and shopping in Lewisburg, including some very nice restaurants. - "Easy communication. Spacious rooms. Pretty quiet. " - "We had a lovely relaxing stay at the salt cave lodge. We came in the day before our booked spa treatment and stayed at the lodge. The accommodation was incredibly well thought out and provided a relaxing experience. ZEN!!! The bedrooms looked like rooms in a cave with curving walls, soft lighting, large salt lamps that glowed and even crystals embedded in the walls. The details – the wood tables, blankets, rugs, were impressive. The main room was a living room/dining room/kitchenette. They did have a large tv in the living room area and had wi-fi (relaxing without being disconnected). There were also salt lamps in all of the rooms so even watching tv gave off the salt cave vibe. Outside our rooms was a fire pit that could be used – but I would recommend bringing bug spray in the summer – just in case. Parking and the spa were right there and check-in very easy. Salt cave session was included so we booked that for the next day prior to our spa appointments. The spa location is outside White Sulfur Springs and at least 15 minutes away from Lewisburg. The onsite café opens at 10 or 11 so we ran over to Lewisburg for an earlier breakfast and had a later lunch at the onsite café. With the microwave and frig you can bring food in or drive to one of the nearby restaurants (check their schedules). If the lodge shows rooms available but the spa looks booked online call the spa to double check their availability. I would definitely repeat the entire experience! Amazing!"

Entire remodeled 5 br, 3 bath farmhouse on 150+ acres. Ten minutes from Escatawba Farms and the best fly fishing around. Enjoy the large porch and bird watching by day, star watching around the fire pit by night. Connect with nature again! But also has Starlink available if needed plus desk and chair for those looking for a comfortable remote work area. TV with lots of dvds for all ages. Only 20 minute to coolest town in America: Lewisburg WV, where you will find fun shops, great restaurants, antique malls, fine art galleries, live outdoor music and so much more. With the Greenbriar and Homestead Resorts 30 minutes away enjoy skiing in the winter. Lakes and streams nearby provide for endless fishing, tubing and kayaking. Whether it’s a trip to enjoy all the great mountain outdoor activities or to unwind with a good book, this property is remote yet close enough to be at a grocery store in 10 minutes in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Spend the day sightseeing the Humpback bridge and Falling Springs waterfall or stay right on the property and enjoy miles of trails (old logging trails) and spring feed creeks. Catch some crawdads, catch a mountain sunset, and enjoy the great outdoors under the stars. (Note: this property is in the remote Alleghany mountains and wild animals and insects are a part of life. In the fall we sometimes have an abundance of ladybug visitors.)

You are truly disconnected which is refreshing." - "We came to White Sulfur Springs for a celebration of life and music events at Big Draft Brewing. The house is definitely in a remote area but the drive to town was quick and easy. The house was very clean and well equipped. Watched some movies and played cornhole in our down time. The front porch was also great for the guys to sit and play guitar. Visited New Bridge Gorge which is less than 1.5 hours away. Was a nice drive. Would definitely return to explore more of the area."

The apartment has its own private entrance and is located in a beautiful, woodsy, upscale subdivision. If you love animals and wildlife, there’s a good chance you will see deer, squirrels, and turkeys in the backyard! Maximum of 2 guests and absolutely no parties are allowed. Pool is not included in rental. 1 dog under 50lbs with a 50.00 deposit allowed. No pit bulls allowed per our insurance. We do ask that pets be crated when leaving them.

We were in town for the State Fair of West Virginia and this location was about 15 to 20 minutes away and allowed us to avoid the majority of heavy fair traffic. When not at the fair, we did a lot of front porch sitting to take in the wonderful mountain view, checked out the stars at night, and loved that the Greenbrier River trail is so close. The home was clean. The kitchen was well stocked and plenty of room for our family."

Light-filled and spacious. This beautifully renovated 1940's 4-bedroom, 2-bath home is the perfect place for you, your family, or group to gather and relax. Walk to the Greenbrier Resort & Golf Course, neighborhood brewery, restaurants, live music, and downtown shops. Enjoy the nearby mountains, rivers, lakes, & trails that make WV almost heaven. Luxury bedding. Well-appointed kitchen, separate office, and a kid's reading nook. The fenced-in backyard has a nice firepit, patio & dining table.

The downstairs and two upstairs bedrooms have a queen-size bed and a dresser. The fourth bedroom is upstairs and has 3 twins and 1 is a trundle so it ca nbe 4 twins. This room also has a TV mounted on the wall above a dresser. There is a full bathroom upstairs and downstairs. Nice hardwoods through-out with lots of natural light and original art work on the walls.

I have to admit I have been a salt cave/room skeptic but I’m now a believer and bought a salt lamp for home! My only “gripe” is wishing we had more photos/info about the rooom- we weren’t aware there was a full kitchen so we would have saved a lot of travel time making food in the room vs eating out and then traveling to room. This beautiful 3 Bedroom, 3 Bath, mountain home is located in The Retreat, a gated luxury community between Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs, WV. You will have responsible access to The Retreat's community Clubhouse Lodge, with its beautiful mountain views and infinity pool, open in season. (This is not available for groups or parties.).
Our home features the highest quality building materials, cathedral ceilings, granite kitchen counters, exquisite spa showers, a whirlpool therapeutic tub, custom indoor copper & stone fountain, and a stone gas fireplace. The beautiful great room has French doors leading to a fully screened porch with amazing mountain views - a wonderful setting for your morning cup of coffee, dinner with family, or relaxing in the serene mountain setting. You will be a short drive to historic Lewisburg, where you can enjoy browsing and shopping in the many quaint shops and eating in local restaurants.

There is limited cell service in the area, but the home has great Starlink Internet that can be used for Wi-Fi calling and texting, as well as video conferencing and streaming.

Guest access:
You will have the entire home and property to yourself with exception of the basement which is used for storage. Roughly 1600 square feet. Property is at the end of the road which becomes a beautiful 2 mile hiking trail into public national forest. The Allegheny Trail (330 miles long) passes within 1/4 mile of the home.

There are steep outdoor steps leading up to the front porch and entrance of the home. We have installed hand railings for your safety and comfort. We encourage all guests to use caution and take their time on the stairs.

This fully updated studio apartment is located on the bottom floor of our real estate office located between Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs. It is quiet and private but very close to one of the area's two main highways, Rt 60, and the local interstate, I-64. It has a small private deck with a serene view of the woods. Guests have free access to high speed Wifi!

Off of the living room, there is a gourmet kitchen that features a 60” Wolfe stove, an ice maker, coffee maker, blender, toaster, and exotic granite.
