- "We stayed in Villa Tortuga for a number of months in 2020 and are booked to stay for a few weeks later this year. Villa Tortuga is a fabulous place to stay - perhaps one of the best in Ajijic. We read all of the previous comments, and while most are fair (even the less than totally positive ones), we don't think they capture how wonderful it is to stay at a traditional and gracious Mexican hacienda The property can only be described as huge, and with all of the flowering trees, shrubs and plants (especially the amazing bougainvillea), it is like living in your own totally private park. The pool area is very upscale and is a great party area and the house itself has large rooms with high ceilings. Angela, the property manager, is highly responsive to any concerns, and the full time house keeper and gardener are very capable and are always willing to assist. Sitting out on the grand porch and looking at the view of the mountains and the lake during the day, or the sunset during the early evening, we knew we were in a very special place. We highly recommend this property."

A safe and secure Taxi service is available at the airport. Passengers are required to pay posted zone rates at the Taxi Stand located inside the airport. No money is exchanged with the drivers unless you provide a cash tip. Payment for taxi services may be made in Mexican pesos or credit card, they do provide an exchange service for U.S. dollars but the rate may be high. ATM’s are also located inside the Airport terminal and can provide you with a quick and easy way to obtain local currency using your international bank debit card.

- "We would consider thos property again." - "I booked on June 15, 2022 and arrived on 6/27/22. The hot tub was empty so I sent communication and was told to fill it no problem. Well when I finally called to ask how to turn it on I was told “oh there was a miscommunication it went out last week please do not use it”. Same for the clothes dryer, “oh it went out a few days ago, the entire inside drum of the dryer was gone and it looked like it had been that way for a while. The skylights in the restrooms leak. Lastly, on our return to the VRBO from being out on the 28th we discovered that the “care taker” of the house and her small child also stay there so it’s very awkward because you see them in a tiny room with a glass door so really it’s not a private stay. I reached out several times and was told they would consider some type of refund for the inconveniences we had. Out of a 3 night stay they refunded a total of 6% of the fee for the inconveniences. Don’t get me wrong the house is nice but when you are booking and see the pictures and when you look for a property with laundry and you don’t get it it’s very frustrating that they see that it’s only a 6% of a refund. We had a huge inconvenience that we had to go to a laundry mat to get our laundry done for our next destination. I’ve never had to confirm that everything is in working order but I guess now I will."

- "The villa and views are gorgeous. This is basically three large bedrooms with a sitting area. The outdoor kitchen didn't have plates or silverware so you couldn't really make food to eat there. The pool was perfect and we enjoyed the restaurants and cafe nearby. There are a lot of dogs on the property. At least 5 big ones and a few small dogs too. We liked them but sometimes it was overwhelming. Also the sink water was sometimes brown. The hosts were quick to respond and very organized."

4. There are some super friendly, well-trained dogs on site. We have three gardeners from Monday to Saturday who maintain the estate and feed the dogs.

5. Please take note that tap water in the property is not drinkable. You can only use that to clean, brush teeth, and bathe. Going up and down stairs is required.

- "This was a lovely spot and staff were nearly always immediately available to help (make sure you have What’s App on your phone). We had a little trouble getting to it initially, as Ocampo is a one way street. It’s helpful to know to access it from the Carreterra (main highway) by turning left - towards the lake- on Rio Bravo, then left onto Ocampo. The first night was really noisy with motorcycles, but quieted by 10:30 and that was the only really noisy time. Street noise is evident most of the time but nights are quiet. We learned later there was a festival in Chapala the night we arrived that involved the noisy bikes. Ocampo is a Main Street and serves pedestrians, cars, buses, and horses. There are a number of really good restaurants in walking distance, even for old folks like us. The cobblestones and broken concrete of the sidewalks are challenging but we learned to take the malecon into town center and occasionally caught a bus or used a taxi. The ads we saw featured a swimming pool but this is no longer accessible. We didn’t care but someone else might. Wi-fi is good. There is no television so we just pulled up movies on the internet when we were ready to wind down. There are many spices, herbs and condiments in the kitchen and all the appliances work well. If you like to cook, you might want to bring a knife sharpener, but there are plenty of cooking tools. We enjoyed our stay. "

- "Great kitchen supplies, attentive management, supreme location. Plan to rent it again!" - "As lovely as the pictures of Villa Malecon look, the house is nicer. We loved the indoor/outdoor living of the place, as well as appreciating the many private and shared spaces in the Villa. In the midst of the hustle and bustle that is the Malecon, the Villa is a lovely oasis in which you can feel safe and coddled. Can’t find what you want or need? Call Óscar. He was super responsive and answered my What’s App questions/comment/requests almost instantly. Does this fabulous house have quirks? Yup! Just like yours wherever your home may be. Recommendation. Leave your expectations at home and appreciate the slower pace and “go with the flow” mindset in this sweet village and in the house. A couple of suggestions not house-related. Bring pesos. You might be surprised at how many places don’t take credit cards as the service charge to the business owner is pretty steep. And you won’t be thrilled by the “exchange rate” if you use USD with the local shop. Tip everyone well and often. If you don’t have a Spanish speaker in your party, have Google translate or some other such app at the ready. In a town populated by so many English speakers, lots of residents have some key English words. But when you ask a question beyond the basic - they need an assist understanding you and you will most certainly need help understanding these lovely folks. You can ask Óscar for more details, but we enjoyed the driving services of Jesica (airport trips and tours to Tlaquepaque) and the awesome Chef Laura’s (delivered) culinary delights. The flan was incredible but I wouldn’t turn down her Chile rellenos or carne en su jugo. Easy to love this place. Hard to leave. Hasta luego, Ajijic!"
