Famous surf beach directly across the road and nearby access to many quality surf spots. The accommodation is located at Okitu Beach which is continuous to the north of Wainui Beach.

This space was used as a holiday rental a few years ago and was very popular. It was taken out of use for a while but I have just refurnished it so you can have some peace and tranquility while experiencing beach life without huge expense.

From my house, you have beautiful views of the ocean as far south as Mahia or north past Makorori. There is a great walk along the beach south to the lighthouse on Tuahine Point at low tide, or head up the nearby Makorori Headland for unobstructed sea views. This is a large house and property and we have the separate area up for offer to rent out. Off street parking right outside your accommodation door.

The bedroom has a brand new (Oct 2024) superplush super king sized bed, rack for hanging clothing, chair, blanket box with spare towels etc.

The lounge/living area has a brand new lounge suite 3 seater couch with extra chair, brand new 50" smart tv, free wifi, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and jug (not full kitchen facilities, more like a hotel studio). It is the warmest part of my house in the winter and the coolest in the summer. Separate shower and toilet are off the main living area.

I can organise surfboard and wetsuit hire for you to be waiting there for your stay.

Great place to stay if you want to enjoy the outdoors and the beach in a relaxed neighbourhood. And my house is on SH35 with easy access further up the coast to Tolaga Bay and beyond.

With Okitu beach over the road and town a 10 minutes drive away or 30 min bike ride, it is a great spot to enjoy for anyone during summer or come surfing in the consistent winter months.

Minimum 4 night booking over the Boxing Day to New Year period. Anyone wanting to book the place for Rhythm and Vines be aware the property will be for the sole use of the agreed guests, not for any hangers on or extra guests during the day time. The space is ideal for 2 people, however I am happy to consider up to 4 absolute max but this must be agreed to first. Any disregard of these rules will see guests asked to leave immediately with no refund as friends and family have had all sorts of drama over RnV under these types of circumstances.

Special conditions:
The space has one bedroom with one superking bed but I can potentially accommodate one more single/couple in the lounge if you are happy to sleep there on an airbed or mattress.

My young daughter and I will be in the house upstairs from the area you are renting. As it is our full time house.

The apartment is set in north facing private grounds with access to open areas and the Waimata river. Walking to a shopping area is 5 minutes and to the city 15, otherwise a short drive or cycle. The living room is spacious and incorporates a cooking area and a bed settee (if required). The cooking area while not a full kitchen is designed and enables a full range of hot meals to be prepared (double hotplate, crockpots, microwave, fridge etc. ) and eaten (plates, cutlery etc.) The apartment is best suited to a couple as there is one double bedroom but there is capacity to accommodate up to two couples or 3 single guests with a double bed settee and a single fold down bed in the lounge. When booking can you please indicate if you need the extra beds made up. The bathroom and bedroom are separate from the living area. The floor area of the apartment is 66 m sq.
Outside, making the most of the property's sunny aspect, is an enclosed kitchen bench for washing dishes etc. and close to that a BBQ and entertaining area. There is off street parking for a car with access to the apartment down a flight of stairs which is beneath the main residence.

The apartment is located on the ground floor of our two storey dwelling and is fully self contained with it's own deck and patio outdoor area. It was lovingly built by my builder husband and completed in December 2018.

The apartment is located across the road from the beautiful wainui/okitu beach and has expansive sea views. The apartment is modern, clean and very spacious.

The photos just dont do the space inside or out justice.

Milk, tea, coffee and muesli is provided as well as beach towels, shampoo and body wash.

The apartment contains one queen bed in a separate bedroom and a couch/single sofa bed located in the lounge. We can also supply a portable cot of required.

Beachfront, centrally located, a fifteen minute walk on the boardwalk to CBD. 1-13 minute walk/drive to 10 of the best surf breaks on the East Coast. Beautiful, fully equipped apartments that sleep between 1-6 guests. First floor apartments have sea views and balconies. Ground floor apartments have views and patios from which to sit and enjoy them.
From our location it is a brief walk to bars and restrauants located around the habour and along the beachfront.

The Shed - Orchard Retreat

Our two bedroom accomodation is positioned to get the best views out over our citrus orchard. The large deck extends off the spacious open plan lounge and kitchen to allow indoor/outdoor living.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom and toilet.

Full kitchen with everything you may need as well as a bottle of our award winning orange juice.

Due our deck and the stairs our property is not suitable for young children.

We are a smoke free property and do not allow smoking.

The space
Our 7 ha orchard surrounds the apartment. Located in a quiet village with excellent walking tracks nearby. Stroll the orchard or go for a walk around the neighbourhood. There are no shops, restaurants or fast food in the village but we are just 15mins from central Gisborne and great restaurants, cafes and beaches.

Guest access
We offer no contact guest access or we can meet you in person if you prefer more detail on what there is to do or see during your stay in Gisborne.

Other things to note
Our property is a working property so you will see and hear - tractors, kids and other activity and we ask that our yard are kept clear for safety reasons. We provide car parks and a location to park.

Ormond is a quiet village with no local shop or cafes. We include milk,eggs and our own award winning juice in the listing price but would advise bringing food with you.

As we are in the country and we have large windows and sliding doors that open up to the outside you may be visited by insects, birds or other wildlife both inside and outside the apartment.

We have a large, loud dog called Fred. He is friendly but please wait for us to greet you before patting him. Let us know if you don’t like dogs and we can keep him up at our house during your stay.

Like much of NZ especially in rural areas we do get power cuts from time to time. This means we will lose electricity and water supply until the electricity supplier fixes the fault. Weather events or power grid failures may cause the electricity to go off for hours and in major weather events even days. We have no control over this and as many power cuts can affect large areas or the entire region it is not possible you provide alternative accomodation.

NZ experiences earthquakes regularly this like weather is something we cannot control. In the event of an earthquake items may fall and break and facilities may need fixing during your stay. We will help clean up and fix anything needed as soon as possible. In the event that the building is left structurally unsound or it is it is not possible to fix issues within a few hours we will refund the night/day of event and any following days - however we will not refund any days prior to event.

Should a weather event mean that power or water cannot be restored within a few hours time we will refund the day/night of event and rest of stay if issues continues. Should a weather event cause structural damage to the property we will refund day/night onto event and any days remaining in the stay. In the event of a severe weather event it may not be possible to provide alternative accomodation.
As Gisborne has limited ways to get to and from Gisborne City or access the region. Storms, weather and accidents can make it difficult or impossible to reach Gisborne city and retail areas or leave/enter the Gisborne region. We cannot provide alternative accomodation if this happens as when this happens all travel is often limited.

Our water is rainwater and is supplied by a pump. Sometimes power surges and power cuts may trip the fuse and you may loose water - if this happens let us know immediately and we will fix.

Our hot water uses gas bottles - if you loose hot water the gas bottle may have run out. Let us know and we will swap the bottles over.

Cellphone coverage may be limited in the Gisborne region and at our property. We provide free wireless internet but speed may vary in bad weather or of provider has issues. It is not suitable for streaming or high/fast speed internet applications.

We have TVNZ plus available on our wireless tv but no Netflix or paid streaming services.

The apartment looks out over the orchard, onto neighbouring properties/houses and a self seeding sustainable garden that at certain times of year may have plants that are going to seed, gaps in planting etc. This garden is designed to be sustainable and attract butterflies and beneficial insects to our orchard. It is gorgeous most of the year but at times can look a little scruffy when the seasons change or we get drought.

As well are located near the main road some traffic noise may be heard as well as vehicles in the village.

Please note this is not the Ritz but it’s getting there, we have started renos already replacing the windows with mirrored (for privacy) double glazing for noise and warmth. The Bathroom and kitchen have been updated and there is new carpet in the bedrooms, the lounge room & kitchen flooring is vintage and needs to be varnished, the unit still needs loving, but if you are looking for somewhere comfortable and in the middle of town, this is great place for you. Provide linen, towels etc, wifi, smart tv & an awesome heat pump that warms or cools the apartment quickly.

Guests who have not checked out by 10 AM and/or have not arranged a late check-out will instantly be charged a full night's accommodation. If belongings need to be moved, an additional fee will apply. This is necessary as we require sufficient time to prepare the property for the next guests, and delays place incredible stress on our staff.
Late check-out may be available depending on bookings and housekeeping schedules. Please contact Waikanae Beach Motel before your departure to check availability.
For check-outs after 12 PM this must be arranged and an extra night's fee will apply and must be paid via Airbnb by the night before. If unpaid, housekeeping will be scheduled for the regular 10 AM check-out time to ensure the property is ready for the next guest.

The cleaning fee covers two-three cleaners who refresh linens and top up supplies. If you stay longer, you'll find our properties are much cheaper per night. For one-night stays, we need to pass on the cost, as we still incur the same level of preparation and cleaning as for longer stays. We appreciate it if you can leave cleaned towels in the washing machine for the cleaners to hang in the sunshine, but it’s not required. Please ensure the property is left tidy. Additional charges may apply for excessive mess, such as food scraps or dirty ovens. Thank you for your understanding!
