Rent bikes and bike into Haarlem — it’s such a charming area and picturesque as you bike there. Also it’s not possible for US citizens to rent the lodge’s bikes online so figure something out with them beforehand because it torture walking by the bikes everyday and not being able to ride them. My place is suitable for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with children).

The space
This former dentist practice was fully renovated in 2016. It has a new bathroom and fully-equipped kitchen (including nespresso machine, toaster, oven & microwave). The house is located next to our own house, has its own entrance and consists of a hallway, connecting the master bedroom with bathroom, second bedroom, kitchen and separate restroom.

Guests can use the full vacation house. There is a small patio in front of the house. You can park your car on our driveway or in front of the house (free of charge).

This small Garden house in the friendly city of Heemstede is the perfect romantic small house for a single person or couple. The house was build as a shoe repairers shop in 1923, but now a small guest house with a small kitchenette, bathroom (shower) small living room and a small double bed (140cm) at the first floor. The house has its own entrance and is totally independent.
The house is located near a busstop with direct connection to Haarlem, Schiphol airport and Amsterdam.

The space
Small living room with kitchenette. TV, Wifi and the use of 2 bicycles are included.
The stairs to the first floor is a "dutch" ladder so a narrow steep staircase. So far no complaints but just so you are prepared.
Please read the reviews to get an idea. It is small but everything you might need is there.
Price compared to Amsterdam is competitive and most guests prefer the calm of our village to the noisy city of Amsterdam in combination of the great public transport to Amsterdam and the beautiful options of Zandvoort (beach), Heemstede and Haarlem nearby.

The whole house is yours! We only share the backroom occassionaly where the fridge and washing machine are located; we only enter this room to use the washing machine which could happen as we like things to stay fresh : ) or get something from the freezer. We do not need to disturb you for this because there is a seperate door at the back of the house. So you’ll probably not notice we used the fridge ; )

During weekdays daytime I am at work but that does not mean I can not help you.
If we are not around our neighbours are very friendly and will be of help to you!
The house is NON SMOKING and NO DRUGS!
This is a family friendly neighbourhood and therefore forbidden to use drugs in the house or garden.
Normally the area is very calm but i do need to mention that there are kids living nextdoor and when the weather is nice they might play outside and make some noise 😉 this is a living community not a retirement area 🥳😂

Our Studio is 9 kilometers from the Keukenhof. In 2 minutes of cycling, you will already be riding through the beautiful flower fields between the end of March and mid-May, for an unforgettable and colorful experience. We have two bikes available. Book quickly, because in the months of March and April, the flower fields are at their best. On April 20, the famous flower parade is from Noordwijk to Haarlem.

The space
This is the full second floor of the house including two large bedrooms (28 and 30 M2) full bath, mini-fridge, no kitchen. Both beds have new mattresses. There is a shared washer and dryer (full loads only). Wifi is provided free of charge. The rooms have coffee and tea service.

Guest access
You will be given a key to the front door. The hall and stairway are separate so you can come and go as you please. We have a separate dining room for guest breakfasts. There is a separate key provided for access to the garage where the bikes are kept.

During your stay
Peter and I are in our 60’s. I work part time as a teacher and Peter is retired. We have travelled a great deal both for business and pleasure, and have always preferred small hotels and bed and breakfasts where you feel like a guest rather than a customer. We try to extend that feeling to our guests by taking the time to exchange travel stories and give directions or advice on attractions in Amsterdam and Haarlem.
P.S. Peter is an epicure (foodie). If he has time, Peter will take you along to the best butchers, cheese shops and fish mongers.

Other things to note
Bikes are a must in Holland. We have 4 bikes for our guests. More bikes can be rented at the train station. Biking to the beach is a pretty 30 minute ride along country homes and through the dunes. Watching the sunset from a bistro on the beach is a great way to end the day. Biking through the tulip fields in the spring is a once in a lifetime experience. We have lived here for 30 years and we never get tired of it.

Amsterdam is not the end-all of Holland. Haarlem is a jewel of a city and it's only 10 minutes by bike from here. It's a good place to shop and is also home to the Frans Hals & Teyler’s museums and has loads of great restaurants that are less pricey than Amsterdam. Go to the Jopenkerk where they have an in-house brewery and many beer varieties to taste.

Rent an electric boat in Haarlem online and tour the canals while picnicking. A great and relaxing way to spend a sunny day. Just google Greenjoy.

With pride and pleasure, I rent out a 2-person garden suite in my country house, separate from my house in Heemstede, including use of a private bathroom (completely renovated in Dec 2022). There is free parking on the premises and there is a private terrace. Heemstede Aerdenhout station is across the street where you can rent bicycles (max. 20 minutes cycling to Zandvoort, 10 minutes cycling to Haarlem!). 23 minutes by train to Amsterdam.
