This was possibly the most idyllic setting I've ever had the pleasure of staying at; the grounds around the main property are like a movie set. It was impossibly pretty, and the hiking trail they set up around the multitude of tropical plants they grow there was a lot of fun to walk. We swam in the pool where the waterfall was flowing, but the water was a little too high to try and get up underneath the falls itself. We had a wonderful night's sleep away from the bustle of town; we slept with our windows open and during the night one of the house cats decided it wanted to sleep in the bed with us, so we made a little space for our new friend. If you're looking for a unique experience in Hilo I'd highly recommend this incredible property. We only stayed one night so I can't comment on a lot of the hospitality outside of the excellent breakfast we had, but I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it would all be equally great. "

Just past the village, you'll pass a church, then you'll see our cows and goats. Conveniently located only 3 miles from the quaint Hawaii town of Hilo where you will find dining options, stores and shops. On Saturdays and Wednesdays visit the Hilo Open Air Marketplace with an abundance of Hawaiian art, souvenirs, food and clothing. Everyday they have a farmers market at the same location downtown. The downtown area also has many shops to browse, with a variety of wares, food and services.

We have plenty of free parking at our B&B on the West (creek) side of the property with a circle drive and handicap access where you will find the entrances for all three floors (opposite of the ocean). Just go down our driveway past the house to the circle drive and entrances. If you like to walk, there is an easy 30 minute walk from our B&B through a jungle back road to Honoli’i State Park which is the favorite for local surfers!

Aloha! Open, spacious, renovated Ohana house (studio) with private entrance and close to town in Hilo.
We have loved renovating this space since buying our house, and we are excited to welcome guests in to this sweet, little hale!

The space
It is a spacious guest studio behind our house (where I live with my husband, and two kids).

The Ohana has an open and well-lit sitting area furnished with refinished Hawaiian Koa wood chairs and table, step-up to sleeping area with queen size bed, small closet space with hangers, small bathroom with concrete waterfall shower and pedestal sink.

The kitchenette is basic, but perfect for guests on the go or keeping things fairly simple. There is a mini-fridge, toaster oven, sink with garbage disposal, coffee maker and tea kettle, and we provide local coffee, tea, and island fresh fruit from what is available in our yard at the time. And wifi, of course. :)

Hammocks outside (there is traffic noise, but we still love to sit out here).

A separate sitting area in my garden space adjacent to the ‘ohana house to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, or watch the local birds.

I also have a home Yoga studio space that is available by request. I am available for private Yoga sessions as well.

We also have a sweet dog named Uhane ( pronounced oo-ha-nay), about 30 lbs that we rescued in February 2017. He will bark when you get here, but is a total sweetheart and loves people. Feel free to say hi to him and make sure side gate gets locked, please! :)

The space
One of the pictures shows the ohana layout so you can see where every room is located. Both bedrooms feature a large bed, storage organizer with room to hang clothes, en suite bathrooms, granite countertops and window sills and walk in showers.

The living and dining area has many windows which overlook the front yard with fire pit and distant ocean view. There is a smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu as well as local stations. WiFi is throughout the home. Your private laundry is here as well as a guest bathroom. If there is a fifth guest in your group, then they will have access to the guest bathroom while either sleeping on the couch or a twin size inflatable bed.

There are multiple Farmer's Markets, historic downtown Hilo, Queen Liliuokalani Park, Coconut Island, Rainbow Falls, museums to visit within the 4 miles radius of the city. Lots to see here.

- Sign up for group tours (Mauna Kea Observatory, Waipio Valley, Lava Hiking, Kilauea Volcano, Hot Ponds, Ziplines). We are about 1.5mile from hotel row on Hilo Bay, so most tour companies WILL usually drop off guests after the tours.

- Take the FREE local buses to Kailua-Kona , resorts, and hotels on the west side.

During your stay
As host, I spend time with my guests at check in and at breakfast and offer advice on restaurants and planning day trips for a real local experience. I live on site and have my own private living space and you will have yours. I am mostly available and encourage guests to call me by cell phone to ask me for things they need. I respect guest's privacy and there is a separate guest wing and common room. As a County permitted, full service bed and breakfast, we change towels and empty trash daily. We offer 24 hour tea service, wifi, and board games in the common room, and off street parking. There are usually other guests at breakfast to socialize with and to share travel experiences.

We provide beach towels, folding chairs, snorkel masks, umbrellas, and other amenities. We change towels daily. Although we have a dog and cat, the guest rooms are maintained pet free for guests' allergies. There is a computer for the guests to use. And free wifi. We are in a farming area, and have a 10 acre farm complete with cows, goats, sheep, pigs and chickens guests can see and visit, along with a whole host of wild birds that visit the feeders constantly and the occasional hawaii hawks and wild pigs. We have two cattle dogs that will be kept in our area at the basement level and 4 cats.

The Pagoda Guest House is a standalone, private home with a full kitchen for your use. You also have access to all other common areas in other buildings.

Guest access
Kulaniapia Falls is a 42 acre property just about 15 minutes from downtown Hilo. There are miles of nature trails, and a natural farm on property. When river conditions are safe, you may swim, kayak, and paddleboard under the falls.
