- "When we 1st arrived we were unsure what to think. Once in our condo, that is up on the 4th floor, we were pleasantly surprised at how clean, simply decorated, well stocked the condo was. Everything you need in the kitchen, dishes, oven, microwave, fridge, coffee pot, pots n pans, seasoning, etc. Bathroom had plenty of bath towels, beach towels, hairdryer, soap. On the balcony there were two chairs to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air, a huge Rubbermaid tote with snorkeling gear & sand toys, and two beach chairs. The view from the balcony is of the pool and several types of greenery; bushes, trees, etc. You can't really see the water from the condo but it is literally right behind the condo. We walked over to the beach, Carl Smith State Park, several times. We didn't use the pool at all as it was very dirty. There is no air conditioning in the condo but everyroom had a fan. There are two bedrooms each has a queen bed, nightstands & a dresser. It would have been nice to have a small cooler to use for drinks to take to the beach & maybe a window AC unit to help keep the condo cool. Overall happy with the condo, would recommend to others & would stay here again. Snorkeling right behind the condo was great, we saw TONS of turtles & quite a few fish too. "

- "The location was perfect for all of the places on the island we wanted to visit. It is less than 5 miles from ITO airport and 45 mins. from the The National Volcanic Park. The drive to the other side of the island was only 1.5 hours away as well. If you do not rent a car, the Hele bus service is also available. Our host thought of everything and the unit was well stocked with everything we needed and had not thought about. This unit had such beautiful natural surroundings. We had breakfast on the balcony every morning looking at hundred year old banyan trees and lush greenery. Since we were celebrating our 21st anniversary, our host had a pretty Lei decorating the door and chocolate covered macademia nuts waiting for us. Also, we wanted to go to the beach, but did not have any equipment. Our host had snorkeling gear, bogie boards, beach towels, a bag for our gear and a cooler ready for us to use. This host was awesome and he was attentive to our questions during our stay. We are looking forward to coming back next year."

Our half acres property is located directly on the Big Island's only open-to-the-public Hilo Municipal Golf Course, in the southern part of Hilo.
We have our Main House in front and towards the back an 800 sq-ft Studio and Lanai facing East, with a direct view onto our garden and fruit tree orchard. Our orchard contains various seasonal fruits like papayas, starfruit, lychee, Jabuticaba, and more.

Our central location gives you great access to all of East Hawaii's various activities.

Just 7-15 min. away you have all of Hilo's shopping and dining opportunities. The historic part of Hilo Downtown with it's Hilo Farmer Market, Just Cruisin Coffee, and Ou Thai Food (on the farmers market with great Thai Green Papaya Salad), just mention a small few.

Location, Location, Location. This is a unique studio located one block off bay front above the Rainbow Jo store in downtown Hilo. Decor was good but some pieces of furniture could use a face lift. Check in was quick and easy though would suggest in the future, an email be sent a week prior to clarify the check in process. - "Loved the chickens! The condo was great...clean, modern, well appointed. Everything we needed was nearby i.e. no service, shop or restaurant was further away from the property than 3 miles including the beaches. Owner very responsive as was the onsite property manager. Great pool! The only negative was the doors and outside moldings of many of the other units could use some cleaning and painting, though. Otherwise, the entire facility was excellent. We highly recommend it!"

We would stay here again, if back in the area!" - "Bottom line: No frills studio that has a nice balcony, decent kitchen and bath. Location is close to downtown and airport using a car. Pros: Decent sized studio Balcony/lanai is large Nice TV with great smart features Wifi worked well, no issues while I was working Shower water pressure is wonderful, hot water, great etc. Bathroom has ample light and a big sink area Kitchen area was nice, large fridge, etc. Nice pool (we didnt use, very few people used) Owner/manager was very communicative, easy. There is a nice book on site with information on condo, on Hilo, nice! Cons: No elevator! 3rd floor condo... heavy suitcases Nothing to walk to (use your car a lot) Location is fine.... 5 minute car ride to airport, downtown, beaches, etc. Hot in Jan/February No A/C (there is a fan that has button for "cooling" but its only a fan) At night, the birds/frogs make some jungle noises (kind of cool!) No iron or ironing board No barbecue area Your condo does NOT overlook the pool Parking lot is run down, but it parks plenty of cars just fine. Floor tile is old and grout missing, but is fine, not dangerous. Only one set of keys and door locks automatically behind you. A second set of keys would be nice to leave in the box "in case". Please replace the shower curtain as it is not clean at the bottom. Overall, this is a "no frills" condo that will meet all of your needs for a 4 to 5 night stay. There is no elevator to get you up to the 3rd floor, so remember your heavy bags on arrival and departure. Otherwise going up 2 sets of stairs is easy. The bed is comfortable (queen), the kitchen is perfect, and the bathroom is nice. There is a large balcony that has a decent view to the right (open space with bamboo and downward to the koi pond) and to the left would be looking at other units who are looking back. Not an issue really. The location is decent but you will have to drive everywhere. There is one brewery to walk to but other than that you will be driving to downtown, to the volcano, the beach, etc. The owner was very nice, helpful, communicative, and had a nice supply inside the unit (missing an iron). Overall, its a nice place to stay for your stay in Hilo. From the beach stops we made we saw whales, tons of turtles, beautiful waterfalls, the volcano at day, back again at night (awesome), Ken's Pancakes, Cafe Pesto (great pizza), and a special shout out to the Hilo Yacht Club, FANTASTIC (if you are a member of a yacht club). Mahalo!"

Our home has its own brackish waster pond on property. Most guests love the environment and enjoy watching the ducks that live there. If you however suffer from severe allergies or asthma, you may consider booking a "dryer" environment for your stay.

- "We enjoyed our stay, especially the location a few minutes from Hilo and directly on the beach park. Loved the geckos, frogs and sounds of rain in the night. The same things we loved will not for be enjoyable for everyone... No air conditioning means you must leave windows open and the sound of frogs at night is loud. During the day, especially on weekends, the beach park can be very busy and the sounds and smells (like charcoal BBQ smoke) may be an annoyance until the park closes. The mornings are delightful as you have the park to yourself. Access from designated parking spot in the rear of the property is not handicap accessible unless you park in the public beach lot in front, subject to open hours."

Sweet little spot tucked away downtown in Hilo with bright light and ocean breeze. Tropical gardens surround the house making it feel more remote. Located just 5-10 minutes walk or drive from the airport, groceries, banks, pharmacy, restaurants, beaches, waterfalls, and more. The space
The house is tucked away on a little gravel side street right downtown that you would never notice when passing by. Many guests have commented that it can be difficult to find, especially in the dark so be sure to check the directions for pictures and detailed info on how to locate the property. When you approach the house you'll come down the driveway where you’ll park and see the carport set up with an outdoor living area. It should be well lit if you’re coming home after dark with solar lights lining the driveway and light in the carport. This cozy and comfortable apartment has all the essentials you’ll need, and is the perfect place to crash after adventuring around the island, or if you’re arriving in Hilo on a late flight. Conveniently located in the downtown area, it’s a simple and clean second-floor space with lots of windows for natural light. There's usually a nice ocean or mountain breeze flowing through, as the house is just a few hundred yards from Hilo bay front. Guests are welcome to peruse the gardens outside. Depending on the season there may be soursop, starfruit, mountain apples, cacao, or avocados in the trees.
Things to consider before coming to Hawai'i:
The tropical weather in Hilo can be hot and/or humid at times. There is no AC in the house, but each room has a fan for guests to use.
If this is your first time in the tropics, you should also know that there are lots of insects and lizards here. You might even see a gecko on the kitchen counter, or hanging out near the lamps at night.
There are many fruit trees planted all around the house, and fruit flies are attracted to the fruit when it’s in season. Sometimes they will come in the house when the doors and windows are left open, or if the lights are left on at night.
In Hilo there are also lots of coqui frogs chirping at night. The house has gardens all around where they like to live. Many people find the frog's song to be charming, but earplugs are provided for guests who would like to use them.
There's a gym next door to the house on the adjacent property that's open from 4am-10pm most days. Occasional sounds of people working out, or kids soccer practice from over there are not uncommon.

Guest access
Much of Hilo can be accessed on foot or bike from the house. There is a Bike Share program with a couple different locations to pick up bikes near the house. If you're planning on leaving Hilo for adventures you should line up a car, since the Big Island is very big and difficult to get around outside of town. If you are driving, there is free offsite parking at the end of the street, next to the house.

The space
The Pint-Sized Papaya listing is located on the ground floor of the Lobin Hung Building. Built in 1926, this apartment complex has 40 units and two store fronts: Headline News Salon & Grace Kickboxing Academy which is our family run business!

Our location has a lot of foot traffic, however only residents and guest enter using their appropriate gate key. Security cameras are posted around the complex and my family and I are around, as we live on site.

It’s an old building, and we would like to be upfront with saying there is NO AC in the Airbnb. We do have fans to accompany the ceiling fan should you need it.

Though Hilo is laid back and not much infrastructure has changed, we have had an increase in population including homelessness. Our location is central and not uncommon to see this- however this should not put a damper in your vacation, our community and apartment complex is a pretty tight knit one and everyone looks out for one another. We are happy to share that this complex is one of the few locally owned complexes in town as well!

The space
Aloha and welcome to Hilo! This freshly renovated studio is conveniently located 2 blocks away from the airport, and centrally located just a mile from the beach, and a mile from downtown.


The spacious studio is equipped with a comfortable queen bed, always prepared with clean and comfortable linens, a large sofa that pulls out to a full-size bed, and a TV ready to stream any of your favorite shows. We include a powerful fan, and AC that has the ability to freeze the room in just minutes.

Although there is no oven, we have a single burner cook top, pot and pan and all the common utensils. We have also included a Ninja Foodie multi cooker, coffee machine, microwave, and a refrigerator with freezer. The table and chairs are sutuible for accommodating 4 guests, with the option to also dine at the picnic table outside of the studio.

Our studio has a HUGE shower, with great water pressure and perfectly refreshing soap, shampoo, and conditioner. This is definitely one of our favorite parts of the studio.

The studio is shared on the same property as our home, with rooms that we also rent occasionally to accommodate guests wanting to explore Hilo as well. while you willl likely see ourselves, or other guests on the property , but your privacy is very mush respected.

The apartment is a self contained living space that is very well appointed with bespoke furniture, fittings and original art. It has all of its own amenities so you should want for nothing. It is located two minutes from downtown Hilo. If you want you can walk to everything, including; shops, restaurants, beaches, bars, yoga studios, gyms and so on. If you are over 5' 10" you will need to mind your head in a couple of places so please be aware of this. We are always looking to improve.

The space
This is a very well appointed space with most of the normal conveniences visitors could want. There is no TV hook-up but there is high speed internet - fiber optic; average upload and download speeds 250+ Mbps.

The 2 story house is located in a quiet neighborhood, and is a few minutes drive to the center. The place is the entire second floor of the house with huge front yard. It is 10 minutes ride from the airport and 5 minutes away from University of Hawaii. If you play golf, it is 5 minutes walk to the Municipal golf course.

All the benefits of downtown living, with a lovely view of Wailoa Park, Hilo Bay and Mauna Kea Mountain. You can watch the canoes in the lagoon from one of 2 private balconies. Or take a refreshing walk within minutes of, walking out your back door to Bayfront Beach. You are only a few blocks away from the Local Farmers Market, Longs Drugs, numerous Banks, Restaurants, Bars with Entertainment. The grounds are well maintain, with Koi fish ponds swimming pool, and guest cabana for parties. The airport, UH Hilo, Banyan Drive, Coconut Island, and all within close proximity and are easily bike-able.

Multiple laundry rooms throughout the complex. Easy pay with an app! There is also a 24hr laundry mat in town.
Office hours are Monday - Friday 8am-2pm.

This is a large complex, with renters, owners, and other vacation rentals. Generally it's pretty quiet but there is the potential for noise during the day and evenings. Everyone normally quiets down at a reasonable time.
You may hear footsteps in the unit upstairs. You may hear people talking, birds, ducks, chickens, music but most definitely you will hear our local coqui frogs chirp at night.

Hawaii is a tropical climate. It can get hot, humid & rainy at times. We have a ceiling fan and stand up fans to hopefully help.

Centrally located in Historic downtown Hilo. You can walk to restaurants, bars, and shops. The condo is on the ground floor allowing easy access after your day spent out exploring the Island. This spacious condo is everything you are looking for in comfort and relaxation.

The space
Fully stocked kitchen with coffee maker, toaster oven, fridge, gas stove and all kitchen wares. Some basic condiments like salt, pepper and soy sauce are provided. The larger bedroom has a queen bed with night stands and closet with hangers to hang cloths. The smaller bedroom has a single bed with a stylish desk and closet. Living area has a couch and a TV. All rooms have fans and lighting.

The whole downstairs unit will be your own private condo. The unit also comes with their own private parking. Additional parking for guests are marked. There are no elevators and there are couple steps on the sidewalk. Metal security door that can be left open at night for airflow.

The condo unit has laundry and shared pool. The laundry service is paid by coins or an app.
The Condo's hosts a variety of traveling professionals, tourists and families. On occasion you could hear footsteps from the upper floor and see children playing out in the grass. We are a very friendly community, and it is a fantastic place to engross yourself into local culture or keep to oneself and experience Hawaii on your own.
