The lookout inspired Outpost Treehouse (not actually attached to a tree) sits in a white pine forest in the middle of a 65 acre active farm. The 15 hand crafted windows allow for great views watching out for Michigan wildlife--White tail deer, turkeys, owls, coyote have all been spotted from the elevated wrap around deck. The biggest regret that guests have noted is “we wish we would have stayed longer”!

The space
The treehouse has all the modern amenities--Air conditioning, furnace, private bath with shower, hot and cold running water. Solar power is used for interior lights. The 14x14 room has a queen size bed, a comfy chair, small table with 2 chairs, buffet cabinet with bar sink, small refrigerator for drinks and coffee maker. To access the bathroom you must go outside and downstairs...there are lights on the staircase for those nightly trips!

On the same treehouse upper level just a few steps away over the walkway you have access to a microwave, fridge and camp stove located in the newly added pavilion. There is also a propane gas grill outside. A small amount of firewood is provided so you can enjoy an evening by the campfire.

Close by there is a heated/air conditioned “glamping” tent which is considered the 2nd bedroom. If you have more than 2 guests the tent will be automatically added. It is a 12x14 platform tent that has windows on 3 sides, a front door with screen, 2 beds (30x78). This is designed to accommodate another couple or older children who can sleep alone. (There is an added $50/night cost for use of glamping tent.) There is an electric heater for the cool nights but we don’t recommend using the tent in March, November or December . There is a portable air conditioner for your comfort during the warm summer. The tent is always in addition to the treehouse. You cannot rent just the tent.

The ground level is the “mechanical “ room and the bathroom. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE AND DOWN THE STAIRS TO GO TO THE BATHROOM…we do provide an umbrella in case it’s raining. We consider it part of the adventure!

Relax, watch for wildlife, sit around the camp fire or take a walk around the property. Long pants and closed toed shoes are recommended for the woods where you will find poison ivy and poison oak in places. When the weather is wet boots are advisable.

If you must connect to the world, complimentary wifi is available, along with a 32” Roku TV.

A cozy little getaway for the adventurous individual or couple at a location that is beautiful year round. The property is surrounded by 365 acres of state and MNA sanctuary lands with 700 feet of private frontage.

Excellent trout fishing, kayaking, tubing, biking, XC skiing, snow shoeing and hiking right out the back door. If you want to truly get away from the pink skies and road noise and want the "up north" experience but not stay at a crummy resort or noisy lake, this is the place for you.

The space
The guest house is a secluded space twelve feet into the treetops with private outdoor stairs to a 6x10 foot deck with small table, chairs and entrance. The studio is a spacious 20x24 foot room with a large sidewall dormer and large windows/sliding glass door on the gable ends.

The PRIMARY HEAT is a WOOD STOVE which is easy to manage, firewood is providedg. The bathroom is small but quite functional with a 32x32" shower with 6' shower head. There is a full size bed (new mattress 8/20) and a sofa. The kitchenette has a 2 burner electric hotplate, toaster oven, small 1.7 cubic foot refrigerator, press pot for coffee maker, an electric percolator, kettle and plates/bowls/cups/utensils service for three along with basic kitchen tools. You can cook on that wood stove too! There is an additional electric space heater and a circulating fan to cover whatever range of temperatures the season has to offer. Extra blankets are also provided for the bed.

Please, no trailers, ORVs or snowmobiles. There is not enough room at the end of the 300’ driveway for more than 2 extra vehicles.

I must note, that while internet does indeed exist here, the whole property is run off a grandfathered 3G data plan. Expect roughly 3x dial up speeds if that’s important to you.

AT&T and Verizon are the only reliable mobile networks up here so if you have an urban carrier you may not (and most likely won't) have any service! This is true of all Northern rural Michigan, not just here.

The guest house is above one of the studio buildings for Deep Wood Press where fine books have been made for the past 33 years. Here we cast metal type, engrave copper, make ink, print letterpress and intaglio, illustrate and bind very limited edition books.

Additional arrangements can be made for artists or the curious wishing to use the bindery or intaglio and letterpress facilities. This must be worked out in advance with your host and at an additional cost. Chad has taught all levels of printmaking and book binding in the US and Europe and can tailor any instruction or facility use to your needs. Guided fly fishing outings on the river are also available for an additional fee.

There are a couple kayaks that may be used. Respectful use of the rest of the grounds as well - with permission use of the fire pit.

Other things to note
Remember - this is up 17 outdoor stairs and we can get impressive overnight snows sometimes. The bathroom and kitchenette are small and simple. Primary heat is a WOOD STOVE. This place is geared toward an active couple wanting to experience comfortable seclusion in the north woods.

I use unscented laundry detergent/softener and typically use Murphey's Soap for cleaning and mopping other areas between every guest stay for those of you sensitive to such things.

The water from the tap is of much higher quality than anything you buy in plastic. I have the well tested annually.

One bedroom apartment with peaceful surroundings. Situated on 18 acres with groomed walking trails and community trails nearby (Kal-Haven). Couple of lakes nearby with public access and Lake Michigan about 30 miles. Centrally located to universities (WMU, K college, KVCC), racetracks (Kalamazoo Speedway 3.9 miles, Martin track 14 miles and Gingerman 26 miles), and ski resorts (Bittersweet and TimberRidge. Plenty of parking for a trailer. Come check out Allegan Co Fair.

The space
This is my apartment in our barn. So it is a private living space. Separate dwelling from home owner. Private bedroom apartment with full kitchen and bathroom. Shared property with homeowner. No pets or smoking.
There is room to park vehicle and trailer if needed just make arrangements when booking if bringing a trailer. Due to being in the country on 18 acres you may encounter wildlife as well as insects and/or spiders.

There are groomed trails on the 18 acres. Newly remolded firepit with chairs and a bench.

Other things to note
We are in the country, rural setting so there is a possibility that you may encounter creatures including but not limited to spiders, ants and mosquitoes. We do have two barn cats and homeowner has a dog (and sometimes grand-dogs), all friendly.
Security cameras outside. Trailer parking available as well as a place to put your bicycles. We do have a wifi extender.

The space
We are located in a quiet, rural area that can be easily accessed from Highway 23. Dundee is a spot many travelers pick to rest due to its location, restaurants, and easy access to the highway. We can also be your “destination spot” to celebrate your anniversary, birthday, or just get some restful time away.

There are many ways to spend your free time. You can relax on the front porch and watch the birds, read a book by the pool, go to a local park and walk by the river, go antiquing, shop Cabela’s, visit a museum or historical site, attend one of the many local festivals, go to an orchard, visit a brewery or winery, or relax and take in the flowers and fall colors. There are a lot of things to see and do in the area anytime of the year.

You are welcome to cuddle up and just rest in your room too. Each room is furnished with a 40” HD smart TV, WiFi, comfy chair, and laptop stand or desk. The bathrooms are furnished with bath towels, pool towels, wash cloths, and soap/shampoo/conditioner. We also provide a Keurig with coffee and tea.

In the mornings we offer a homemade country breakfast. Breakfast is served at 9 am in our dining room.

About us: it is our dream to turn our 1870’s home into a fully operational Bed & Breakfast. We are constantly remodeling, upgrading, and improving. Thank you for sharing this journey with us.

We have 2 acres of property that guests are free to walk. We also have an outdoor pool guests can use (June-Sept.). In the house, guests will be limited to their rooms and the hallway. Our dining room and living room will be open to guests during breakfast hours.

During your stay
We are available to interact as much or as little as you like. We can be reached by phone, text, or email.

Other things to note
Guests will enter through the front door. Guests will be given a 4 digit access code to unlock/lock the front door. We try to greet all of our guests when they arrive, but if timing does not permit, we will give you instructions for self check in.

Parking is available for two cars (one for each room), but more can be provided if needed. Please let us know if you need additional parking so we can move our vehicles out of the way.

Our home is 150+ years old. It is solid construction with beautiful craftsmanship. But like most old homes, we lack some things a newer home could provide.
-There are only 2 wall outlets in each room. We have provided power strips to increase the number of outlets.
-We also can not provide microwaves and refrigerators at this time.
-There is no central air on the second floor, but we provide window units for both bedrooms in the summer.
-The main staircase is beautiful but it does creak. It is not possible to be perfectly quiet. We just ask guests to do their best.

The space
The Garthe Guest House is a two story home with the private guest rooms on the second floor. You will enter the home through the porch on the front of the house. There is a shared kitchen, living room and balcony. Guests are responsible for carrying their own luggage up the single flight of stairs.

While we love animals and have pets of our own, out of consideration for all guests, we can not accommodate reservations with pets.

The private guest rooms, shared living, kitchen and balcony are located on the second floor. On the first floor there is a sitting area to the right of the entrance that guests may use for quiet activities.

During your stay
The owner/host lives on the premises in private living quarters. There is no interaction with owner/host required to check in. If you need to contact him or any of the co-hosts you can message through the Airbnb platform.

Other things to note
We provide a light breakfast for guests who book rooms from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Each morning between 7a-8a the host will place items on the table and on the top shelf of the refrigerator for all guests to share. The continental style breakfast items may include: yogurt, granola, seasonal fruit, orange juice, hard boiled eggs, pastries or quick breads/muffins, quiche, breakfast casseroles. Not all items will be available every day. We can not accommodate special dietary needs. The kitchen is stocked with K-cups and tea bags, non-dairy powdered creamer, sugar and artificial sweeteners for your hot beverage.

For guests renting the entire upstairs which includes all three private rooms, breakfast will not be provided.

Room 1 is on 1st floor of our historic Bed & Breakfast on the water, out on the Old Mission Peninsula; dock and beach; quiet, peaceful and restorative; large common room and big front porch/lawn with lake view; great swimming; yoga studio, classes or your own practice; eco-friendly; same innkeeper for past 37 years; extensive library, informal, relaxed atmosphere; wineries, biking nearby, healthy food. We have a 2-night minimum on weekends during our high season.

We're off the beaten path here, close to nature; peaceful and relaxing.
