This house is truly unique!

A work of art by the owner, the details make this a place to remember from the hand-cut, burl-lined staircase to the bench swing hanging from the living room rafters. Also, the loft bed looks out of a skylight. Kids and adults will have a wonderful time exploring this house.

The large kitchen has plenty of room for everyone to gather for meals. The bar features a glass-topped terrarium filled with starfish, sand dollars, shells, rocks - see what you can find! The wall of windows lets you enjoy the view from wherever you are. The living room features a cozy wood-burning stove.

The master bedroom offers a hand-make California king bed, a large soaking tub, and an oversized steam shower. Enjoy the view from the wrap-around windows in this room as well.

The open loft area has an attached kids bedroom and full bathroom. The open loft has a futon for additional guest sleeping or possible office workspace. The attached kids' bunk room accommodates six sleeping arrangements (one queen bed, top single and bottom bunk is a full, and single loft bed that looks out the skylight). The kids will want to "rock-paper-scissors" for the star-gazing spot!

Outside, there is a whole world to explore. The large deck offers lots of views to enjoy or wander down one of the trails on the large property. There is a BBQ for your dinner steaks, then a fire pit for later in the evening when it's time to roast some marshmallows.

When you're ready for an adventure down the hill, check out Whaleshead Beach, less than a mile away. Hiking trails follow the coastline most of the way to Brookings or head north for other options.

Far enough away to feel like you are in the forest, but super close to town and hikes and beaches and even the redwoods in California. Only complaint is I emailed property manager twice - once to confirm they received the rental notice I signed and another to ask for advice on local hikes, and no response was ever received. Likely due to the fact that it is a property management company running it as opposed to a homeowner."

- "Great place to stay the hosts were on site. We made friends with them and their dog Murphy. Easy Check in and check out. They were very kind in taking us to the top of the river so we could kayak down. They never bothered us even though they were in close proximity. They gave us some tips on places to go and explore. It is a quiet location we never saw anyone else on the river. The river has a nice swimming hole that is about 100 yards away. Smaller kids could play there as well as older kids."

This cabin was hand-built by artist Douglas Purdy, who was a bronze artist and local architect. You can see his handmade, one of a kind door latches, unique placement of doorknobs, and enjoy the exposed high beam ceilings, loft, low cabinets and toasty wood stove as he imagined!

Please be respectful of this cabin and the neighborhood. We have a lot of deer and wildlife, please drive slow on all gravel roads.

- "Clean little cabin, Nice quiet location, just as described." - "The cottage is set in a very nice wooded location, it has everything you need, and is just right for two. As has been mentioned before, you do need to have some remaining athletic ability to access the king sized bed “upstairs” either via the “ladder” on the wall, or via the more traditional drop down “attic” stairs. If you use the latter, anyone who has a large frame, will struggle to access the only bathroom should you need too while the attic stair is lowered,. The living area is both artistically rustic and well equipped. The WI-FI worked well enough for me to stream live TV without hesitation. Brookings is a short drive away with a well stocked grocery store, so while this location feels a little off the grid, the truth is you are close to all you need. Overall it’s a lovely location, peacefully nestled amongst the tree’s."

- "Love the personal touches to this little cabin. So cozy and sweet. Great little get away in the forest. So green and beautiful!" - "We have stayed at C-7 Creekside before as a couple. This time we brought another couple with us to see how well the unit works for a group of four using the main cabin and the annex. Overall it was a great experience. The main cabin was clean and comfortable. We used the well appointed kitchen to cook meals and everything we needed was provided. The close access to Whaleshead Beach and the whole Boardman Scenic Corridor was fantastic. The annex was great and it was super nice to have another bedroom that was not attached to the main cabin. The hot tub was a great addition to have. It was clean and well taken care of. Altogether we had a great stay and hope to return!"

- "The bed wasn’t that loud in our opinion. The whole place did smell really strongly like dog pee which was difficult at times to handle but we will just not choose a dog friendly spot next time. We would’ve liked a bit more information on check out responsibilities like where to put towels and trash. The hot tub was over-chlorinated but still a great way to spend the evenings and the privacy fence is really great. Overall we loved the place and it’s location!"

We used one of the BBQ's outside and it appeared it had not been cleaned in a quite a while. It was quite a disappointment considering the price I paid."

- "The view is spectacular from the deck, when you can sit out. If it is pouring, as it was 2 of the days while we were visiting there are some bar stools that you can move to the window so you can appreciate the view from indoors. The storm was impressive. This is the perfect place for a quiet retreat. The bed is very comfortable and the linens and toiletries are very nice. There is limited phone reception as it only works sometimes on the back deck and we have Verizon. TV requires some buffering from time to time but we just read a book while we were waiting. We greatly enjoyed our time at Whaleshead. If you need ice be sure to pick it up in town. There is a Keurig and coffee maker so bring your favorite coffee. Enjoy!"

- "Cozy cabin in a quiet, wooded setting and a short distance to beautiful beaches. This suited our family perfectly with a daughter traveling from New Zealand and another from Tennessee. Enjoyed the home, hot tub, and all the amenities it had to offer. We would gladly choose this unit again and recommend it to anyone who prefers the quiet of may at its’ best" - "Super nice, super clean cabin with a hot tub! The location is great and has 2 parking spots! When you open the door the cabin is so inviting and cozy. The layout is nice and the loft is super cool! Everything you need is there, oven, micro, fridge, utensils and more! WhalesHead beach is beautiful and I highly recommend staying in this unit! When I arrived there was some rain but there is a covered porch out back with BBQ looking at the forest! Oh and as I was leaving a bird flew into the bird house by the front door, INCREDiBLE STAY!"

- "The resort goes from the top of a steep hill (tiny mountain?) to the bottom. The Whale House is at the bottom next to a rushing creek, surrounded by tall trees and vegetation. Even though we had to give up our original reservation at the top that overlooked the entire resort and the beach, The Whale House setting turned out to be fascinating because of the foliage and forest life. - "The cabin was cozy, we loved the tv room with the fireplace heater. The bathroom was quite small and there was nothing private about the hot tub. We could see in the windows of neighbors which meant they can see us as well. We will stay at the resort again just not that cabin."

- "The property its self was nice and as described. We got there after dark and was never given a map of how to find the unit in the property so we had to drive around until someone saw us and asked if we needed help. When we finally found the place we could not get in. The code didnt work and it was only to unlock the deadbolt but the doorknob wad locked as well. We had to call VRBO who put us on hold, while waiting someone drove up and we ts them what was happening. They called a property manager who gave him the code for the lock box with a key. VRBO never called us back to check in if we got in or to say they spoke with the property manager. The place was missing the carafe for the coffee machine which was disappointing. The cable for the TV did not work and there was no one to contact for help. The house was tiny but nice, if its just 2 people then its plenty of space."

Relax at this charming, rustic getaway. New cabin, nestled among tall pines in rural Brookings, OR. Located off of Hwy 101, just over a mile above Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor, known for its rugged, protected coastline, wild rivers, lush forests and hiking trails. Only a 5 min. drive to spectacular beaches. This romantic little cabin features a king bed, deck with an unobstructed view of the surrounding woods, cozy gas cast iron stove, Keurig, mini-fridge, microwave and lovely walk in shower.

The space
The cabin is surrounded by tall pines and features a large bedroom/sitting room with king size bed, driftwood table and wicker chairs, overstuffed armchair, armoire, 2 bachelor’s chests and gas cast iron stove (for warmth, not cooking). The windows provide stunning views of the woods. If you are sensitive to light, please know that the large windows have curtains but the smaller windows have no coverings. On most mornings of the year, the sunlight is gently diffused through the pines. The elevated design gives guests the feeling of being in nature and is completely private. There is a coffee room with a sink for preparing hot drinks, re-heating foods and preparing cold foods. It includes a mini fridge/freezer, Keurig and microwave. The bathroom has a walk-in shower. The water comes up from our underground spring and is filtered through an ultra-violet system to purify, so it can take a minute or so to heat. The deck has 2 teak chairs and a small table. There is an outdoor picnic table for use when weather permits.

Guest access
Guests may access the shared main driveway and all of the property in front of the main house, plus all indoor/outdoor areas of the private cabin and the short trails below. Anything behind or to the rear of the main house or along the private driveway behind the house is not part of the cabin property. No formal kitchen/cooking facility is available.

Other things to note
To get to the cabin, guests will drive along a short, forested private dirt road in a rural neighborhood. **Guests must be able to walk approximately 200 ft. across the property from the parking area, in all types of weather. It gets very dark here, and we provide lanterns for guests, should they need them. Near the cabin, a gravel and bark path leads to 2 steps up and onto the wrap-around deck and front door. The cabin is elevated, completely private and hidden from view on private property.

Enjoy the ocean view! Lounge on the sunny deck or watch the coastline from the living room or loft. Private, tucked into a sweet corner of the Whaleshead Community. You are a walk/3 minute drive to the exquisite and barely populated Whaleshead Beach, on the 10-mile Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor. Hike the magical coastal trail through rainforest, dunes, beach, cliffs, and stunning natural bridges. An easy 6 mile drive north of Brookings. Enjoy the bakery!

A unique and charming woodland cabin nestled in a coastal forest above the fog, just two miles from spectacular ocean views and beaches. Sugar Mountain was designed and built by artist & architect Douglas Purdy, and features handmade doors & latches, a cozy wood stove, clawfoot bathtub, exposed beam high ceilings, extra sleeping loft, a fully equipped kitchen, and large deck with forest views all around.

The space
Located in the Cape Ferrelo neighborhood, six miles north of Brookings, Oregon, across from House Rock, Indian Sands, and Whales Head beaches. The cabin is surrounded by a serene forest with a spacious deck for taking in the forest and coastal fog.

A cozy double-bed bedroom on the main floor sleeps two, and you will find a king size and full-size bed made up in the loft.

* Update April 2024: We now have a custom, twisting treehouse staircase leading up to the loft!

The cabin has super fast wifi and good phone reception, fully equipped kitchen, and the cabin stays cozy with both a wood stove (seasonal) and electric heat.

There is a 'smart tv' availble for you to sign into your own Netflix account (remember to sign out or others may use it!) or select 'Watch Free' from the main menu to choose from many movies, tv, and music options.
There is also a variety of puzzles and books in the kitchen cabinet.

This cabin was hand-built by artist Douglas Purdy, who was a bronze artist and local architect. You can see his handmade, one of a kind door latches, unique placement of doorknobs, and enjoy the exposed high beam ceilings, loft with built-in ladder, low cabinets and toasty wood stove as he imagined!

Please be respectful of this cabin and the neighborhood. We have a lot of deer and wildlife including bears-- please drive slow on all gravel roads.

☆ We appreciate guests who clean up after themselves, but only ask guests upon check out to turn off the electric heat & lights, run the dishwasher, and leave trash/ recycle inside the cabin or in the entranceway.

The Woodstove is available in the cooler months. Firewood is located in the built-in bench in the entranceway. Take note of the fire extinguisher and don’t leave fires unattended. There is also baseboard heating in the main and bedrooms.

Please lock the cabin and return the key to the lockbox upon departure.

Due to allergy concerns and local wildlife in the area we do not allow pets.

Animals: ☆ Please note- Being a somewhat 'rustic' setting, there is a lot of wildlife in the area.

The cabin has had an occasional bat visitor (twice in two years). This is easily remedied by turning on the outside porch light, turning off all other lights, and leaving the front door open. The harmless bat friend will happily fly outside!

We occasionally have black bear visitors as well- attracted by trash and food smells- so please be mindful to not leave any food outside.

Built by famous Carmel Valley artist and architect Douglas Purdy, Deja Vu is nestled above the fog in the sunny Cape Ferrelo neighborhood of Brookings, about two miles from the ocean and 'Samuel Bordman Scenic Corridor' hiking trails, located 15 minutes north of Brookings.

Deja Vu has two bedrooms upstairs (full/ double bed & queen size main bedroom), two full bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, seasonal woodstove, large deck for sunbathing or yoga, lots of tropical houseplants, and a claw foot tub with big windows and ocean views 😍

A seperate Sauna house is adjacent to the large deck. Guests are welcome to use the Sauna, following the instructions found in the house guide .

The cabin has fast wifi and good cell phone reception. Feel free to peruse the bookshelves which are filled with books on Oregon and local History, art and more.

As the part-time art studio of fiber artist Liza Hamilton, or Wooliza, there are a number of large scale needle felted animals and tufted wool artworks in the space.

There is also a lot of wildlife in the area including black bears! Please don't leave any food or trash outside.

Other things to note
We request no children at Deja Vu, due to the presence of valuable artworks, low shelves full of art and collectables, and a deck that prioritizes the view over safety.

We do not allow pets due to allergies. If you have a service animal, you must let us know in advance. There will be a $100 fee if an animal is at the cabin without permission.

From the cabin you can easily explore all the beaches of the Samuel Boardman State Park. Our favorite is definitely Whaleshead beach. Whaleshead can be reached by car or by hiking. For the very adventurous there is a trail straight from the cabin through tunnels.

This single-story home enjoys a beautiful position just across the Oregon Coast Highway and up the hill from Whaleshead Beach. It's located in the heart of the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor- a place to hike the Oregon Coast Trail, explore secluded beaches and go for long scenic drives. Harris Beach State Park, Cape Ferrelo, the Thomas Creek Bridge, Natural Bridges and Arch Rock State Park are all within seven miles. Nearby, the town of Brookings features eclectic restaurants, shops, a small movie theatre and Azalea Park.

The cabin was designed to highlight its natural surroundings, from the covered front porch to the spacious sundeck. Enjoy a view of the ocean as you arrive and step out of your car in the driveway. There is a back deck with a gas grill and an outdoor table for meals, as well as a sheltered space for the hot tub. There is a 200-square-foot sunroom with windows where you can admire the sun rising over the mountains in the mornings.

The rest of the house is cozy and comfortable with a mini split system for heating and cooling, large windows and skylights letting in an abundance of natural light and a brand new mattress for your comfort. There's an open kitchen, an eat-in dining area where you can enjoy some of the provided board games and an inviting living area with a Roku-equipped TV with guest mode capability and Spectrum cable to screen your favorite movies each night. A second TV with a Roku awaits you in the bedroom as well. DVD player, DVDs and Oregon Coast themed books also provided.
