- "I really liked that it was close restaurant and the river was just across the street. Would stay again." - "The suite was well equipped, comfortable and had everything we needed. We would recommend it." - "All's good" - "Our family of 5 and our dog stayed here for 3 nights during the Borel Fire evacuation and felt right at home! They have the best location, right across from the Kern River and Riverside Park. There is an ice cream window a few doors down, a Shell gas station and gift shop right on the corner and it is right behind Cheryl's Diner and close to many other restaurants. The lodge was super homey feeling and comfortable. We had the upstairs suite, it was huge! Full size kitchen, 2 queen beds that were very comfy, a rollaway bed, futons and a couch in the living room, full size dining room table and counter seats as well, 2 bathrooms and the showers have amazing water pressure, huge porch on the front over looking the river, several beautiful antique furnture pieces, and so many other special touches! The manager and house keeper were friendly and welcoming but gave us our privacy and we didn't hear the guests downstairs at all. There is a cute courtyard in the back with tables and grills and even a beautiful apple tree and painted mural on the back cabin. Fast Wifi and lots of channels to watch also. We are looking forward to staying here again in the future and will recommend to all our friends and family :)"

Premium cable, high speed internet and wifi. 3,000 sq ft of living space and newly remodeled with a gourmet kitchen, giant bathrooms, an outdoor rain shower, and very comfortable beds, there is no other rental in the area that has these amenities and a sandy beach right out the backdoor.
Two large master suites, both with sliding glass doors onto a huge second story balcony for star gazing and morning coffee. Third guest bedroom has a queen bed. There is a triple bunk bed with a full size mattress on the bottom. Additional sleeping space includes a 15' indoor teepee with a custom mattress; sleeps 2 adults or 4 children. Whether you are looking for a base for daily outdoor adventures or a quiet nature retreat, this LUXURY cabin has something for everyone.
The cabin has been lovingly remodeled and has exclusively been used by family previously. It is immaculate and stocked like a family home with everything you need from spices, cookware, folding chairs, towels, shampoo and soap, etc... There is a separate beverage/wine fridge. Most condiments and cooking essentials are already here and for your use.

The Area: Kernville is 5 minutes down the road and has lots of shops, bars, and eateries. Most holiday weekends there is a festival going on in the center of town with food trucks and local artisan vendors. There is also a community park right on the river with lots of grass, picnic tables, basketball court, and playground. There is a binder in the cabin with activity brochures, hiking maps, and restaurant menus, along with other miscellaneous information about the area.
Lake Isabella is a fisherman's paradise with competitions happening regularly. Swimming, boating, jet skiing etc... There are jet skis and boats for rent at the dock.
The Pacific Crest Trail is right down the road. The Kern River Brewery is in town and has some amazing beer - try the Sequoia Red!My favorite hike to a small waterfall and slide rock is 20 minutes up the road. The Trail of 100 Giants is 30 minutes up the road, a must see if you have never seen the giant Sequoias. Alta Sierra, the local ski resort, is less than thirty minutes away and is very fun in the winter.
I am familiar with many hikes and unique things to do in the area and am more than happy to answer any questions. This has been a magical place for our family and we want our guests to love it too!
- "The property was perfect for our group. Just a suggestion. The walking to the water was dangerous for us older people, probably due to the flooding. Thank you." - "House right on the water. Beautiful" - "Absolutely the best vacation home you will find in the area. We were a group of 12 and had everything we needed for an incredible 3 nights. This is not your typical rental - it is a beautifully decorated and fully stocked home with plenty of room to spread out and relax. The location can’t be beat. Right on the river with a sand beach literally as your back yard with amazing views. We will be returning as soon as we can!"

The cabin can accommodate up to 5 people comfortably. Main floor has a bathroom with a tub/shower and a separate toilet room. The second bathroom is between the 2 downstairs bedrooms and is a half bath. Please not: there's no bathroom in the loft.
Perched high on granite boulders with incredible western views of the rugged Greenhorn Mountains, you'll feel right at home in your California getaway. A lovely seasonal stream sometimes runs through the property during spring runoff (California weather dependent, please inquire). You can hear the Kern River from the cabin then walk the sandy path to your own slice of riverfront. Relax in the boulder patio or swing in the hammock & take in the serene landscape. On the covered deck, unwind with yoga or a book with coffee in the morning. Watch the sunset over the majestic peaks with a cocktail in the evening. Enjoy a BBQ on the patio under the oaks. When it's chilly outside, unwind with a board game in front of the cozy wood fireplace. The night sky gives way to stargazing and the calming sounds and scents of the southern Sierras.

Have a quiet stay in Riverkern where you can walk to the General Store for basics, or drive a few minutes to Kernville to shop & get some dinner. Whether your visit calls for adventure or the quietude of a peaceful sanctuary, you'll find a very special place at River Willow Cabin.

Riverkern is a small, quaint residential neighborhood just a few miles upstream from downtown Kernville. Our cabin has cabins next door on both sides. It's a quiet neighborhood with paved, well-maintained streets, no need for any specialty vehicle. The speed limit is 25 MPH on the main street with no sidewalks, so street bicycling isn't recommended.
Riverkern itself has a General Store within short walking distance from the cabin. You can grab coffee & breakfast or sandwiches for lunch! The General Store is closed from Thanksgiving (November) to President's Day Weekend (February).
Because it's a small and quiet community, it's very important to respect others' property and our neighbors. Please be aware of private property and of keeping the noise down at night. We've never had a neighbor complaint - yay!
We're in a very high fire hazard area, so outdoor fires or smoking are never permitted. Use of the propane BBQ on the front deck is permitted at all times of the year.
To get to restaurants, shopping and other local activities requires a short drive - 3 miles. The well-maintained, paved mountain road to town doesn't have a sidewalk or much of a shoulder for walking or bicycling - be aware!
PETS: Well-behaved and house-trained dogs are permitted with pre-approval, so please tell us about your pup (breed, size, etc). Please note that there is a $60 pet fee per stay. The fee is for up to 2 dogs maximum. No other animals are allowed without prior approval.
The mighty Kern River runs at the back of the property, and you can access it by walking down a sandy path from the back deck off the cabin. During spring runoff only, a small stream sometimes flows through the property (weather dependent, please inquire.)
For guests traveling with small children - there's a Graco Pack n Play with a fitted sheet, high chair, and bathroom sink faucet hose (for bathtub) for your use in the cabin. Outside we have sand toys & a variety of life jackets.

This 3,541 sq. ft. luxury log home is in the Sequoia National Forest and the Scenic Kern River. It has 3 bedrooms and a loft, 3 baths and a vanity, and accommodate up to 12 guests in beds. Can sleep more if needed. This is one of top homes in Kernville, California. It has also been voted the number one home in Riverkern by the local residence. We love Green and Green, and Frank Lloyd Right. This is our reflection of a great home that we would think Frank Lloyd Wright would be proud of. This lodge is in the Sequoia National Forest. If you have a problem with wild life, ants and spiders you may not want to stay in the forest. This place is very comfortable and reasonably priced to stay, and it sleeps the most people in the Kern River Valley. If your looking for a Trump Hotel with gold fixtures, this is not your place.

8-29-22 Rachelle comments. Thanks for the comments Rachelle,
1. Lights down stairs not working. I am sorry about the lights. They are located behind the bar under the bar top with dimmers. I do mention this in the "Hello Letter" we send to folks when they schedule a reservation. We will try to make this more apparent to future guests that the sliders need to be in the up position for brightness.
2. We have gone out and got curtains for all the bedrooms and the bathrooms that needed curtains! Thanks for that input and we now have curtains in all the bedrooms and bathrooms for more privacy.
3. We advise maid service to pay attention to details in cleaning,, whip down cobwebs. The spots have been removed from the carpet.. The maid service has been advised. We are looking into new carpet right now.
4. I will remind Maid Service to make sure the previous folks left the cupboards, pot and pans and knives a re clean orderly.
5. We purchased all new bedding for the lodge!

1. Purchased new Stove. Our new stove has an oven and and option for the oven to be an Air Fryer.
We always look at our reviews to advise us on what we can do to make the lodge and the experience better. Thanks for your comments Rachelle in making Riverkern Lodge a better place to stay!

Purchased all new bedding and new beds for the new bedroom in the basement.

Gloria made a few complaints. The lights to the back porch do work. There is a light switch in the master bedroom and at the back door of the dinning room. We have a swamp cooler and the temps in the house is in the 70's. If you like your place in the 60's you may want to go somewhere else. All the bedding is new... I bought more pool sticks for playing pool with. Please refrain from smashing my pool sticks because you missed a shot.
My knobs to the doors are upside down???? Wow.... I installed them and Gloria is the first person in 10 years to bring this up. I think they look great! I'm not changing them,
10-9-25
Replaced seating with new patio furniture on the back porch.

General Description of the Cabin:
Relax by the river on a soft, sandy beach. Fall asleep to the sound of water flowing by and wake up to the mountains right outside your windows. The large master bedroom looks out over the river and back yard and includes an en suite bathroom and dressing area. The large front room is not only the great room with kitchen, dining and living areas, but also has two twin beds built into the wall leading to a second bathroom with a shower. With the queen bed in the master, the two twin beds and the queen sized fold out couch in the living room, there is sleeping room for six people. Although the kitchen is well stocked with most things you would need to cook and serve your meals, there are also many restaurants close by. One, the Riverkern General Store is right across the street! There are several more to choose from in nearby Kernville, a quaint, cute, walkable small town. Some menus are included in the Welcome Book.
You will be spoiled for choice as to what to do while you are here.
Activities on the property itself:
You can, of course, just choose to just relax on the deck or the beach. The River is literally in your backyard, its mood changing with the season from a raging, exciting torrent in the spring that requires professional guides (see the Welcome Book for professional whitewater guiding recommendations), to a lazy wading and fishing venue later in the late summer.
Activities nearby:
Isabella Lake, just 15 minutes to the south, stands ready to give you the opportunity to fish, kite or wind surf, water ski, Stand Up Paddleboard, sail, or swim. Its moods vary with the season from brimming full in the Spring to lower in the fall and winter.
The Giant Sequoias are just an hour up the river to the north. There the Walk of a Hundred Giants provides a handicap friendly trail to enable all to enjoy these mighty red wood trees.
Alta Sierra, at 8000 ft is just a 45 min drive to the west. This local high altitude mountain is beautiful all year ‘round. It has often has enough snow in the winter for Shirley Meadow Ski area to open up as well snow on cross country ski trails and sledding slopes. When there is no snow, hiking, and mountain biking trails abound.
Between adventures, you and your family have plenty of room to gather in the cabin’s backyard under the covered patio or on two decks overlooking the River and shaded by a grand old oak tree. Plan to take your morning coffee or evening dessert on the decks to watch the sunrise or sunset paint the mountains in a beautiful play of lights and shadows.
- "This cabin is very clean, cozy and right on the Kern River. Being it was my first VRBO experience, the owner of the property answered every question I had quickly and was really pleasant to deal with. When I return to Kernville, I am going to try and rebook this cabin first every time. " - "We had a wonderful time in Kernville. Rental property is right on the gorgeous Kern River. Highly recommend!" - "Great Spot" - "this is the place ! great place to just unwind on the beautiful deck under a giant oak tree in the back yard or down to the walkway and sit on the rivers edge and fish if you want. i caught 2 squawfish (Sacramento pike) 15 and 17 inches right there, didn't get any trout right there but just down the river by the river beach. 70 yards south of the property. had so much fun , i will definately be back!! This lil cabin was more (amenities) than I thought it would have. Cute and floor plan is just perfect. It has everything you need to glamping. I really loved the mattress and want to buy a new one for home now. The final touches they did for the cabin as well. It had the cutest lil sweets and treats in them snack box. Next time I’m going to take my nephews camping. Right next to our cabin is a space we can rent and bring our tailer. - "The house fit the 8 of us comfortably. There was a crib for our toddler. Lots of space with an incredible view. Grandson 11 yrs old had fun hiking around the property and playing the piano. We’d definitely come back. Keep in mind if you have a car that is low to the ground that there’s a dirt road off the main highway going up to the cabin. We had a truck and SUV so all was good." - "We loved staying here! The house was beautiful and so spacious. Victoria was such a great host giving us tips and recommendations for Kernville. Would stay here again."

- "Exactly what we were looking for a week long visit. The cabin is snug and spacious. 2 bedrooms with a loft area outside the 2nd bedroom. It was clean on check in and nicely decorated. The kitchen has everything needed to cook meals and a few extras. Plenty of dishes. The hosts went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and answered all questions in a timely manner. The location is beautiful and, despite the heat, we spent most of our time on the beautiful deck enjoying the creek, view, and wildlife. The cabin itself has both a swamp cooler and air conditioner so it stayed comfortable. It was too hot to use the lovely fire pit area but I hope to return some time when the weather is a little cooler. I highly recommend this property and want to thank the hosts for a lovely visit."

- "The cabin is super cute, very clean, and has an awesome location. We thought we were getting the cabin pictured with a deck but cabin 11 does not have one. Either way, it’s a very nice stay. On the property, Kern River runs through where we saw people fishing. While it’s very close to town, I wouldn’t recommend walking since it’s on the main road. Our hosts were very nice and we would absolutely head back when we can. "

The cabin can accommodate up to 5 people comfortably. There's a main bathroom with a tub/shower and a separate toilet room. The second bathroom is between the 2 downstairs bedrooms and is a half bath. There's no bathroom in the loft.
When it’s chilly outside, unwind with a board game in front of the cozy wood fireplace. The night sky gives way to stargazing and the calming sounds and scents of the southern Sierras.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find it thoughtfully designed and furnished. It's carefully appointed for comfort and convenience. Plugin or unplug – the choice is yours. Enjoy the fully stocked kitchen with locally roasted ground coffee, back deck with binoculars and rocking chairs, curated reading library, outdoor essentials: backpack, life jackets, sand toys, beach chairs, blankets & towels.
