Mariners cottage has become a well known home on the island dating back to the early 1920's. The cottage attracts several visitors and pedestrians walking by. The Cottage is one of the few on the island that will still take you back to its heritage though without depriving you of the luxuries of today. This 2nd story cottage is totally private with its own entrance and 1 covered parking space. There is one large bonus/bedroom with two queen beds adjacent to a full bath. The Bedroom overlooks the cottage courtyard. The space also offers a main living room equipped with an electric fireplace. A fully functioning kitchen with new appliances adjoins the living room. The home is fully stocked to include: dining and cookware, linens pillows and blankets, towels, iron, etc. There is an onsite washing machine and dryer free of charge. Enjoy an inviting outdoor patio with dining furniture for 4. Bicycles, water toys, and all the excursions you can imagine are available within walking distance!

The lower unit with accommodations for 4 additional guests is also available upon request if you have a larger party and would like to have both. This would include an additional complete home with kitchen, dining, living space, office, bedroom and full bath, as well as a large downstairs courtyard with hot tub. One additional parking space also included.

The famous surf beach, "Blackies" is right out front. Many famous surfing spots are close by (Huntington Beach, The Wedge).

Always a little nerve racking when you hope that the accommodation is as good as you see online and from the previous reviews. Well, it met and exceeded our high standards. Wonderful decor, great location, extremely well appointed and most importantly, impeccably clean. The owners were extremely responsive, when they enquired about our stay, we mentioned that there were only 2 wine glasses and no dishcloths, and they arrived by courier the next day..... very impressed! Everything that you could wish for to enjoy a wonderful vacation was provided - wifi, Apple TV, A/C, beach chairs and accoutrements, garage parking, and an extremely well equipped kitchen. The apartment is located 196 steps from Ocean Boulevard, perfect for walks and watching the sunset. This particular unit had a wonderful outdoor space which included wicker settees, and a full table to enjoy an outdoor meal, and gas BBQ. Our only criticism was that the bathroom was a little tight, and the corner is quite busy with traffic as it is a four-way stop. We would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a weekend/week getaway, with walkability to the ocean as well as all the shops and restaurants in Corona Del Mar."

- "Just a short walk to the beach, our stay was wonderful. It was just me and my 17 year old daughter and suited our needs perfectly. The home was impeccably clean and well-maintained. Air-conditioning in each room of the house was great. Beds were comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed. Just to note, bathroom was on the smaller side, which was fine for 2 people, but more than that could be challenging. Parking on the streets was hit or miss, so patience is key. We often found a spot but usually on a street a block or two over. These things, however, are not to preclude anyone from staying here. Would most definitely return back should we be in the area again!"

Located two blocks from Marine Avenue (Main Street) on Balboa Island, this older cottage is steps to all of the restaurants and short walk to the bay of the famous Balboa Island Ferry. The rear unit has a closed patio that provides a spacious outdoor mix of seating. The gated patio has two Adirondack chairs for relaxing! There is also a patio table and umbrella that seats up to six people. The patio is connected to the cottage through the classic dutch doors as it blends into the living, dining and kitchen areas. The living room, kitchen, and bathroom are located on the first floor and the bedrooms are located on the upper floor.

As you continue through the house, there are private laundry facilities are conveniently located in the hallway that leads to the stairs to the bedrooms. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and TV.

The second bedroom is for the kids! It has a twin bed and a twin bunk bed. A closet with space for clothes. The hallway bathroom has a shower/tub combo.

To fulfill the sleeping arrangements for 6 total guests, please consider that the pullout living room sofa is a full size bed, best suited for 2 children or 1 adult.

PARKING: The parking for the rear unit is inside the gate. All guests are guaranteed a parking space. We do not recommend extremely large vehicles at this location. General neighborhood street parking (metered or unmetered) also in area. During the month of June 2025, we expect the parking situation to be affected by some city utility work.

It’s also home to quaint restaurants and bistros serving up a variety of dishes bursting with flavor. The selections on Balboa Island go beyond the local fresh seafood of the day with flavors of Italian, Mexican, and French-Swiss mixed in to the culinary choices.

There may be nothing more iconic than the island’s two famous desserts, the Balboa Bar and Frozen Banana. The local sweet tooth treasures have been mainstays for nearly 75 years, and have been imitated and replicated, including on the hit TV show “Arrested Development.” The tasty treats are dipped in chocolate and covered with a variety of coatings from nuts and sprinkles to cookie crumbs.

If you want to visit the DISNEYLAND, our property is located just under 20 miles to the resort and it's two main parks. After a great day at the parks, you can return back to your villa, refresh, relax, and take a stroll down to the beach.

If you are interested in the Laguna Beach PAGEANT OF MASTERS during July, this is a fantastic place to stay. Lyft or Uber is the easiest way to get to the event. You can enjoy a nice glass of wine on the balcony before your ride picks you up and takes you to Laguna Beach.

Additional local attractions include Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Whale Watching (included in the FREE FUN package), Aquarium of the Pacific, South Coast Plaza, and Fashion Island.

But a trip to Balboa Island wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Balboa Fun Zone or the Peninsula, where the Ferris wheel has stood for more than 80 years, and the world famous Balboa Island Ferry. The Ferry is about 10 minute walk from the cottage.

This cottage can also be rented in conjunction with the front unit for larger families.

We do allow dogs and there is a $100 per pet fee that will be charged.

Both televisions are Smart TVs and you can log into your favorite streaming services.

Please note that our properties may have electronic devices installed such as electronic locks, front door cameras, or noise monitors. There are no video devices inside the property. Balboa Island, as a whole, is undergoing a process of moving utilities underground and roads may be closed.

Located on the corner of Park and Amethyst, two blocks from Marine Avenue (Main Street) on Balboa Island. This cottage is steps to all of the restaurants and short walk to the bay of the famous Balboa Island Ferry. Probably the most visible feature of the front unit is the patio that provides a spacious outdoor mix of seating. The front patio is surrounded by a classic white picket fence and has two Adirondack chairs for relaxing! There is also a patio table and umbrella that seats up to six people. The patio feature a gas BBQ grill to cook up a summer feast! The patio is connected to the cottage through the classic dutch doors as it blends into the living, dining and kitchen areas. The living room, kitchen, and bathroom are located on the first floor and the bedrooms are located on the upper floor.

- "We loved this property! It was immaculately clean and updated throughout. It has a lovely private courtyard and is only a block from the ocean. It was comfortable and quiet at night. The property managers were available via text and quick to respond. Only suggestion is that it would be convenient if they provided the wifi password and garage code inside the home once you’re checked in. (Those were the 2 reasons I needed to contact them). But like I said, they responded immediately so it was not an issue. We loved the location of this property! It’s on a beautiful street and close to the beach and town shops and restaurants. We ate at the Rose Bakery Cafe and we highly recommend that too! We would definitely like to return to this property."

Outstanding location near the entrance to the Peninsula with a view of the lovely canal. Easy access to Pacific Coast Hwy and the 55 Fwy, yet you are only 2 blocks from the ocean and a 7-10 min walk to 32nd St. Beach. Lido Marina Village, a beautiful waterfront shopping/dining area is a 5 minute walk away. Newport Pier, where you’ll find great surfing, beaches, shops & restaurants is a 15 minute walk away. It is a quiet, residential neighborhood, so party people should look elsewhere.

The space
Best suited for two couples or a small family, our cottage is an updated 1940’s apartment above four garages. About 850 square ft. with two Queen bedrooms and two full bathrooms, the decor is French country with comfortable, vintage furnishings. The kitchen and bathrooms are beautifully remodeled, updated and well-equipped. There are two wall AC units, 3 ceiling fans and a wall furnace. WiFi is very fast if you need to work during your visit. There is a peek-a-boo view of the canal from the office desk. About 100 ft. outside the unit, a glass patio table and comfortable seating is provided for guests next to the canal. Have your morning coffee there, relax for a meal, and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.

The apartment is well-equipped, but you are welcome to borrow from us anything you don't find inside. We live in the other building, so you can send us a message if you need something. The unit has an ice chest, picnic basket, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels and a Costco wagon. For babies, there is a pack & play, high chair, picture books and games. The patio next to the canal has a beautiful view of boats on the water about 100 ft. from the unit. It is a great place to enjoy the sunset or to have your morning coffee. We can pull out a gas barbecue if you want to grill something for dinner. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a garage anymore, but we will help you with parking.

Walking distance: Newport Pier, Lido Theater, Lido Marina Village, The Lido House Resort, Von's Pavillion Shopping Center, Starbucks, and the beautiful beaches of Newport.
