Lee was so proactive and communicative that he actually messaged me before the email came to let me know it would be coming and if I had not gotten the email in the next day or so to contact him directly. After a very long and hot Saturday on campus all day, it was such a relief to walk into this home. This is an older home that has been completely remodeled and updated while maintaining its original charm. It has hardwood floors throughout. It was incredibly clean and great care had been taken with attention to detail. There was MSU decor (not over the top) it was tastefully incorporated into the design. Even the square wooden drink coasters in the living room had a bull dog on each one. We did not walk to campus so I can't speak to the convenience there. But, this is a great home in a quiet neighborhood and an excellent retreat! My daughter loved feeding the chickens the next morning. They are in a coop so If you are not a fan - then you don't even have to interact with them. "

Awakening Spirit Retreat is a 3 Bedroom 2 Bath cabin that is located on 8 wooded acres that are yours to explore and hike during your stay. The cabin has a separate garage that has been closed in that is home to Awakening Spirit Massage Therapy and Hypnosis Monday through Friday. The entire cabin was originally used for the business until we closed off the garage so that we could live there during the construction of our home. Our new home is now complete and we wanted to share the simplicity and tranquility that we found while our family stayed in the cabin. The cabin has a covered front porch perfect for drinking your coffee and watching the wildlife as you wake up in the morning, an open back porch with plenty of seating, and a fire pit that is perfect for enjoying the sunset and a glass of wine. There is a game room in a separate building that has a dart board, pool table, and separate refrigerator. The cabin is equipped with a full kitchen that has most of the basic utensils you will need, and a charcoal grill on the back porch. It has a central heat and A/C unit, as well as a wood burning fireplace with wood provided. The main bedroom has a queen size bed and adjoins a full bathroom. The second bedroom has a full size bed, and the third bedroom has a queen size bed with a twin bunk above.

The Porch House sits on the edge of 40 wooded acres ready to be explored. Rocking chairs on the wraparound porch provide a great view of the woods while sipping morning coffee. FAMILY FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE. This property is located next door to a Christian couple who are the owners of the cottage. It has a big front porch with rocking chairs and a swing. Sit by the pond and fish or just relax. The partially wooded area is a good place for bird watching.

Inside enjoy the open living/kitchen/dining area with one bedroom and bath/laundry downstairs. Upstairs is a loft bedroom with four twin beds. There is a baby gate available for both the top and bottom of the stairs.

On the grounds there is a paddle boat and a canoe for your enjoyment. There is also a bonfire site in front of the cottage near the pond.

Visitors with allergies to cigarette smoke or pet dander will appreciate that we do not allow smoking (not even e-cigarettes) or pets at this property.

Drive one mile to Old Waverly Golf Course, 8 miles to historic Waverly Mansion, 15 miles to Columbus Air Force Base/Columbus, 17 miles to Mississippi University for Women, and 22 miles to the Mississippi State University Campus. Beautiful, cozy home built 1940, just two blocks from Main Street and a half-mile from MSU campus. Large living room with wooden archway into dining area, with original, refinished wooden floors throughout. In walking distance of over 16 restaurants, a coffee shop, a bakery, the library, and shops on Main Street. Convenient location for graduation, MSU sporting events, and Starkville community events.

The Master Bedroom has a king-sized bed with a Tempurpedic mattress.

The 'Birmingham Room': yes, this is Starkville, but we started our family in Birmingham, Alabama, and have included several Birmingham 'touches' in this room, which has 2 full beds.

The 'Palmeiro Room' was rented by MSU baseball legend Rafael Palmeiro when he was a student here and has 2 twin beds.

The Reading Nook is a study off the living room that is perfect for those times when you are looking for a quiet space to read, work, or make a phone call.

The Kitchen is large and equipped with essentials for cooking and hosting. The 'coffee corner' includes coffee, creamer, hot teas, and hot chocolate. Help yourself to any food you see.

About Starkville: Starkville is a lovely small town who is proud to be home to Mississippi State University. Our neighborhood, Oktibbeha Gardens, is one of the closest to campus. It is also extremely close and walkable to downtown (that is why we initially bought the home!). THIS IS AN OLD HOME owned by a low-income person with disabilities. It keeps the rain off your head, provides running water, and keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. That is all you should expect.

It is in need of renovation and maintenance. Some people say it smells 'musty'. The walls are patchy. There are cracked tiles, stained countertops, chipped sinks, ceiling spots, etc. IT IS NOT BUG-PROOF. There is no toxic mold, and I clean the bathroom regularly, but it still LOOKS moldy even right after I clean it.

Your room, the bathroom, and the kitchen are tidy and thoroughly cleaned before each visit. THE LIVING ROOM AND DINING ROOM ARE NOT GUEST AREAS AND THEY ARE MESSY. If walking past clutter is upsetting for you, do not stay here.

Guest access
Shared kitchen, bathroom, washing machine (and clothesline, NO DRYER). Note, no tv or living room area. I try to keep at least half of the kitchen table clear, so you can eat there if you wish, but many guests prefer to eat at the desk in your room.

The space
THIS IS AN OLD HOME owned by a low-income person with disabilities. It keeps the rain off your head, provides running water, and keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. That is all you should expect.

It is in need of renovation and maintenance. Some people say it smells 'musty'. The walls are patchy. There are cracked tiles, stained countertops, chipped sinks, ceiling spots, etc. IT IS NOT BUG-PROOF. There is no toxic mold, and I clean the bathroom regularly, but it still LOOKS moldy even right after I clean it.

Your room, the bathroom, and the kitchen are tidy and thoroughly cleaned before each visit. THE LIVING ROOM AND DINING ROOM ARE NOT GUEST AREAS AND THEY ARE MESSY. If walking past clutter is upsetting for you, do not stay here.

Shared kitchen, bathroom, washing machine (and clothesline, NO DRYER). Note, no tv or living room area. I try to keep at least half of the kitchen table clear, so you can eat there if you wish, but many guests prefer to eat at the desk in your room.

In addition to the Wifi, an ethernet cable is available by request - if you would like one just let me know!

During your stay
I'm here to help with any questions or just to visit, but I'm also happy to leave you alone if you prefer!

Other things to note
This is an old house in a hot climate: you WILL see some bugs from time to time, especially in summer & fall. No it is not constant, and I keep traps out, etc., but you will most likely see one here or there.

I usually do not remove spiders (since they eat the other bugs), but if you are afraid of spiders, let me know and I will do a sweep before you arrive.

Sanders Cottages are a group of bigger than tiny cabins just outside the city limits of Starkville. We sit on 20 acres of a old cattle farm where you are welcome to roam around with your pets or just be by yourself. The houses are appointed nicely and clean. We are not a resort! It gets dark at night and you will drive over a pothole or two upon arrival! We look forward to hosting you soon!

Tranquil location about 6 miles from Mississippi State University. You’ll love my place because of the ambiance. My place is good for solo adventurers and business travelers.

Much of the house is carpeted. The carpet is older, but cleaned and sanitized frequently. I hope to replace it with hardwood or laminate soon. There are plenty of places to sit and read or work if you need.

Bully's Dawg House is located 1 mile from campus in a quiet, established neighborhood. With its private entrance, you have access to your space which includes a queen size bed, loft with a double bed, and a comfortable sectional sofa to watch TV. In addition, you have a mini fridge stocked with water, a microwave, coffee maker, and snacks. It's a perfect spot for all activities at MSU, and it is located close to restaurants and bars.
