Driving Directions:

Simple instructions get on RD #2 (highway#2) to Guanica, Puerto Rico take road 116 to Guanica take road PR 325 (it’s on the left). Go all the way until you see a big building in front of you. This Road ends in a T stop. That is Playa Santa beach in front of you. Take a left at the T and the take the fourth road on the right (calle Coral). Once you pass a road on the right (calle arrecife) you will see the Solimar apts on the right go through the walking gate go to the first apt on the left located on the first floor and use the combination lock to get the keys, open the apt and get the clicker to open the gate. my parking spot is the first on the left by the meters (Please do not park in the cement slots)

The Space

You will not find many places that so truly reflect the true Puerto Rican beach town vibe -- a little gritty, a little old school, and amazing for the natural beauty and old world Latin charm. The house will comfortably fit 8, with one master bedroom, one kids room with bunk beds and a pull out bed, and a separate upstairs suite accessed by an exterior stairway that has a king bed, several cots and a separate bathroom. Lots of outdoor patio space, internal living space is small, but you should be outside enjoying the weather! Perfect for one large family or two families with a couple kids each.

Guest Access

Three beaches within a 5 minute walk (and that's beach walking, not city "walking"), great local gems, but also McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Chili's and mainland style grocery stores within a short drive. Two malls, the cities of Ponce (museums, the Don Q mansion, the famous firehouse, etc.) and Mayaguez (the zoo, the university, etc.), surfing in Rincon, fishing and relaxing on Gilligan's Island, the colonial village of San German, the Guanica Dry forest preserve, coffee farms, native ruins, Arrecibo, golf, casinos and many other attractions within. 30-40 minute drive.

We live in Boston, accessible by phone/text/email, but have a great caretaker to welcome you to the house and be nearby for any issue.

The Neighborhood

Three beaches a walking distance from the house, and some food windows a short walk away, and lots of nearby restaurants, gas stations, and stores a short drive away. It's a small beach town so most things get quiet early, though there is a pool hall down the street if you are adventurous.

Getting Around

No real public transport. Need a rental car.

Other Things to Note

The house is rustic -- no phone, AC only in the two first floor bedrooms (nice breeze in the upstairs bedroom), three bathrooms in old-school lovely neon pastel colors, tv and vcr/dvd player with no cable. You can pull a solid cell phone connection, but hopefully you are looking to disconnect. It's a get-away designed to get away, not stay connected to work or your favorite tv shows.

- "This is a large, bungalow size residence with ample room for a large group. The three bathrooms, large outdoor porch and patio make it great for a hanging out and finding time alone. I would equate the house with a Super 8 in terms of the quality of the rooms, mattresses, and general accommodations. The only games available were cards and scrabble. I'd encourage you to bring your own and leave them there to enhance the space. There is a fantastic mangrove beach just a few blocks east of the house, a little access point called shark tooth beach just a half a block away. This is a great area to explore!"

The local dining scene is outstanding. There are a few restaurants just a few minutes away. There's also scuba shop ready to help you with your scuba needs. If you are into hiking we have Guanica's Dry Forest which is a natural reserve, only about 20 min drive.

And unless you're in a 4x4 don't try finding hidden beach!"

The beach house is in southwest Puerto Rico. Playa Santa is a fishing village with beautiful calm Caribbean beaches. The house is on the "Hidden Beach", a wonderful swimming and snorkeling cove. We bought the house in 2007 for a swimming and painting retreat. Our part of the town is quiet, the main village has a few restaurants and a large beach. There is a fenced garden with a private 50 ft private walkway to a magical beach cove. The UNESCO Bosque Seco de Guánica offers incredible hiking.
The space
The main floor is one large room with kitchen, dining, living/office space and a full bath. The 2nd floor has 3 queen bedrooms and full bathroom. Two of the bedrooms have open air balconies for relaxing, sunning on exercise. The third floor is an open air art studio. The 4th story is an o;en air "Captains Nook"with panoramic views of the Caribbean. There is a fenced garden with a private 50 ft private walkway to a magical beach cove for swimming and snorkeling.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire property except the 4th small bedroom that is locked.

There are 3 sets of stairs in the house as this is a 4 story property. The floors are terrazzo and very slippery if you get them wet - so be careful. This rental is not good for older people or little loved ones who can slip, fall easily or has trouble negotiating stairs. We have never had and accidents and don't want you to be the first! We prefer children to be over 6 to stay at the property.

No closet space or draw space except for a nightstand so I just lived out my suitcase which was fine with me. No TV’s in bedroom only in the common area. A new bar opened up the road if you want to go out for a drink. Did not visit the beach near by spent much time traveling around the island."

The Space:
Come stay with us at Villa Pacifica at Mary Lee’s by the Sea. Villa Pacifica is a unique 5 bedroom 5.5 bathroom oceanfront home in Guánica which has been hosting guests since 1967. The home comfortably sleeps 12 guests and boasts a balcony overlooking the Caribbean Sea, en-suite bathrooms in all bedrooms, an interior patio with gas BBQ, a 6 person spa, 5 kayaks, and access to a public dock than can accommodate vessels up to 23 feet. There is AC throughout the home and Wi-Fi (which can be spotty at times due to the location). Located within the National Dry Forest of Guánica, this home is ideal for cycling, kayaking, and fishing aficionados.

IMPORTANT NOTE: SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS

For your safety, surveillance cameras are in use on this property. Cameras are located in common areas and outdoor spaces. Please be aware that footage is for security purposes only and is not actively monitored. Exterior cameras face the entrance, balconies, terraces, docks and common areas.

KAYAKS

Villa Pacifica includes 5 double kayaks in the rental rate with life vests for up to 10 passengers. Guests must agree to mind the weather conditions, only use the kayaks at their own risk, and to always wear life vests. There are no lifeguards on duty.

ICE

Ice is a must when staying by the ocean. We have a chest freezer with ice bags for guest use. There are some coolers as well for your day trips.

WATER SHOES

We recommend guests bring water shoes. The seabed off the public dock has a grassy floor and most people prefer to have water shoes on.

STAFF ON SITE

Our property keeper and housekeeper will be on-site during the day, maintaining common areas and tending to the yard. At night, the property keeper might need to access the dock via a path adjacent to the house.

USE OF THE DOCK

The dock is yours to use as much as you like but the dock is not private.

GETTING AROUND AND PARKING

Renting a car is a must when staying at Villa Pacifica. There are no taxis or Ubers. There is space for 3 vehicles in front of the property.

COMMON AREAS

Villa Pacifica has ample space for large groups. There is a formal living room overlooking the balcony with seating for 6 and a flat screen TV. The balcony has a 6 person outdoor dining table and chaise lounges for sunbathing. The dining table seats 8 and is directly besides the kitchen which has seating 4 more guests at the kitchen counter. The kitchen has a full size fridge with ice maker, an additional under counter fridge, stove, oven, and microwave. There is an interior patio with a gas grill and seating. A separate family room with flat screen TV. And finally a finished patio area with a 6 person spa.

BEDROOMS

The first and second bedroom are both accessed from inside the home and have a king bed, flatscreen TV, and en-suite bathrooms. The third bedroom, which also is accessed from inside the home, has a queen bed, desk, and en-suit bathroom. The fourth and fifth bedrooms are more of an au-pair setup since they are accessed separate to the home. The fourth bedroom can be accessed from the front of the house or the patio and has a two queen beds, flat screen TV and en-suite bathroom. The fifth bedroom is accessed via the patio and boasts a large private balcony, kitchenette with microwave and coffee maker, and en suite bathroom.

PACK AND PLAY (SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY): We can leave a complimentary Pack and Play at the property upon request. This should be requested upon booking or no later than 5 days before arrival. Pack and Plays are subject to availability.

THINGS TO DO

Guánica Puerto Rico is definitely off the beaten path but that doesn’t mean there aren’t many things to do. Here are some of our favorites:

Kayak to Gilligan’s Island. It is 10 minutes away and is gorgeous. We recommend leaving before 10 am before the wind picks up. Kayaking to the island is against the wind, and the way back is with the wind. So if you leave early you can get there easily without fighting the wind. If the wind picks up while you are there, it will push you back to shore.

Hike or mountain bike the Bosque Seco de Guanica trail. The Bosque Seco de Guanica is a state park that is unique in the United States. The dry forest, beaches, and cliffs you will find are very picturesque. We recommend doing this early in the morning before it gets too hot.

Check out the bioluminescent water from the public dock. This doesn’t happen all the time and you need a new moon (no moonlight). Head down to the dock when it gets dark and splash the water. If you are lucky, you’ll see some pretty cool bioluminescence.

Do a day trip to Playa Santa, enjoy the beach, and have lunch at Umami. This white sand beach is a 15 minute drive away. It gets crowded on the weekend so this is an ideal activity for weekdays where you will have the beach almost to yourself. Umami is open for lunch and early dinner from Thursday to Sunday and they take reservations.

Visit La Parguera for dinner and nightLife. One of our favorites is the Yacht Club at La Parguera for dinner and from there you can stroll downtown for live music, drinks and dancing. This is about 30 minutes away.

Hit Copamarina Hotel for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is 5 minutes away from the property and a great option if you want nearby food and drinks.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that all guests purchase travel insurance, especially during the peak months of Hurricane Season, which are July to October. Travel insurance is inexpensive and will reimburse travelers for most expenses associated with canceling travel outside of the cancellation window; however, this will depend on what the coverage purchased covers. Make sure to review and understand the options before purchase. Disclaimer: we are not associated with any travel insurance companies.

AMENITIES

Villa Pacifica includes paper goods, garbage bags, and bathroom amenities to get you started. You may need to buy some more of these items at the grocery store if you are staying for more then 3 nights but feel free to reach out to us first just in case we have extra supplies at the property. We include bath and beach towels for 12 guests and have 6 beach chairs and 2 coolers at the kayak rack.

HOUSE RULES

Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Please keep noise levels down during these hours out of respect to the neighbors. Breaking this rule can result in having your reservation cancelled.

Check-in time is at 4:00 pm

Check-out time is at 11:00 am

Guests can use water equipment at your own risk and indemnify Mary Lee's by the Sea and the owner from any accidents that may occur. Always wear life vests when kayaking.

NO SMOKING: Smoking is strictly prohibited. A smoking fee of $500 will be charged if violated.

NO PETS: No pets are allowed at any time. A $300 fine will be charged if violated and you will be expelled from the property.

The host will not pay for a hotel, vacation rental, or transportation expenses incurred because of an interruption in water or electrical service. If water or electricity is interrupted for more than 3 hours, guests have the option of canceling their reservation and requesting a refund for the nights not used. Under no circumstances will we refund consumed nights.

All bookings are contingent on signing a short-term rental agreement that will be sent via email. It must be signed within 48 hours of booking or before entering the property, whichever happens first.

Maximum occupancy of 12 adults/children at all times. This includes visitors.

Max. occupancy is strictly enforced and exceeding it may result in immediate cancellation of booking or being expelled from the property.

Towels and linens must only be used for their intended purpose. Do not stain them with food, grease, or any other substance. Do not use towels to clean up any mess. Stained towels/linens will be charged.

My apartment is very close to 4 main beaches, you have Playa Santa beach, La Jungla (Jungle Beach), Manglillito and Mojon Tranquilo beach. These beaches provide gorgeous snorkeling areas with abundant marine life. Also there is a dive shop a brief walking distance. The local dinning scene is excellent.
It's only 15 mins away from Guilligan's Island port.
You can wonder off and go hiking and bird watching in Guanica's Dry Forest which is a natural reserve.

The space

This downtown house is newly renovated and it is just a few blocks away from the bay of El Malecón, which has several excellent seafood restaurants and bars. The property is located less than five minutes away by car from Jaboncillo beach, Guanica Dry Forest and Fort Caprón. Caña Gorda beach, Playa santa beach and La jungla beach are also excellent choices for having a great time. Within 10 miles you can also enjoy the wonders of the nighlife, the cays, snorkeling , kayaking at La Parguera.

The space
The house has a nice space for eating, cooking, sleeping, family area with a balcony and a patio fully fenced with the security of cameras. The house is designed to host 4 guests but for an additional fee, we can accomodate 2 more guests with a queen inflatable mattress.

Charmin house with the original design from the 1930's; it is one of the typical homes for the sugar cane workers on the south side of the island. It is minutes away from serval beaches and historical monuments like the Capron Fort which you can observe from the home's front porch. Walking distance to local restaurants and ocean view for a romantic getaway.A special place to create memories.

The space
Charming house from the past with a modern update it a has a full kitchen, 1 Bedroom 1 bath equipped with Queen size bed with sofa, work station, lighting and charging ports also a 37”TV . Living room has a sofa,42”Tv and a dinning table for 2. Has a large back yard with a palm tree and a typical “uvas de playa” seating and a small Grill. Great front porch with seating.

We also have 2 beach chairs available and a cooler for your beach excursions.

Other things to note
The Malecón is a hub for both relaxation and entertainment. It serves as a gathering spot for families, fishermen, and tourists looking to enjoy Guánica’s laid-back coastal charm. Various events, including live music performances and food festivals, bring the area to life, making it a beloved spot for both residents and visitors.

This tiny cabin (8' x 16') is perfect for a getaway! Although is located on our backyard, you can enjoy a breezy afternoon, an upstairs deck and a pool right in front of the french door. Our home is right in the Dry Forest area.

The space
We are in the Guanica's Dry Forest area which is perfect for hiking, visiting Fort Capron and several beach spots around. Also, a boat trip to the awesome Guilligan Island is priceless. Playa Santa, La Parguera, La Soplaera waterfall and Cabo Rojo Lighthouse and Playuela are close enough driving distance!!

The pool is currently for the two people staying in the Cabin. Some reviews might mention it used to be shared because that was before pandemic.

Our studio is perfect to spent your dream vacation. It gives flexibility to relax and wake up in the morning with the nice morning breeze and a puertorrican expreso coffee cup. From this strategic location, you can explore several beaches around it, such as Guilligan, Ballena, Playa Santa, La Jungla, Parguera, Tamarindo, and many others. Also, it gives an excellent location for mountain biking and hiking at the Natonal Dry Forest, Las Pardas, Pitufos, and many others. Also, you can paddle board from our dock and see the nature of our Ensenada bay.

The space
If our guests needs a bigger apartment, we also have a two bed room apartment next to the studio. The dock can be use to relax, use our hammocks to have a great siesta enjoying the bay breeze.

We have an outdoor kitchen that our guests can share to cook their meals. We have a bbq and a 12 inches double burner gas stove. Their is also a refrigerator that can be used. Also, there is an expresso coffee maker!

Other things to note
Our studio is reliable for a couple with two children since it has a double bed and a single bunker bed.
NOTE: It is not suitable / comfortable for more than two adults. We have a bigger apartment for more than two adults. Let us know any questions!!!

Due to the COVID Pandemic, we have rigorous cleaning and disinfection standards. We ask our guests to keep the areas clean and tidy, as well as to dispose of the garbage before leaving the property. You can do hiking, mountain biking, paddle board, fishing, boating, scuba dive, swimming, jogging or just to relax among the hammocks at the private dock.

Our guests can arrange private boat trip to Guilligan island, El Canal de Ballenas or to go fishing or scuba dive. Also, we can provide private trip in paddle board at the bay or your prefer beach, or mountain bike or hike private trip throughout the national dry forest.

Upon entering you will find the space reserved for work, then you will find the bedroom. You continue and you will see the living room, the kitchen-dining room in an open area that to the right down the hall you will find the bathroom. Leaving through the double glass doors you will reach the outside where you can relax on the furniture of the terrace-balcony or enjoy your coffee. You go down the stairs and arrive at the patio where you can see the sunset from the gazebo where games are stored inside the furniture or the game of bean-bag toss. At dusk the lights will turn on leaving a romantic atmosphere of dim light.
