The view from the place is incredible and private that you forget you're close to the highway. We could hardly tell others had stayed at this place previously because they keep it well maintained. Well equipped kitchen, cozy, and the outdoor hot tub is the cleaniest we have ever used at a property in state. They promote that their property is very clean and they definitely lived up to that. Owners were very nice and Jen even contacted us to let us know that we left something behind and we were able to pick it up before leaving town. There is a full bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet. The dining room table seats six people comfortably.

SAUNA: Helen lived in Finland for two years and we are sauna enthusiasts. For an extra fee of $40 you can take a sauna--as good, or better, than any sauna you will find in Finland. We have a Finnish wood Harvia stove and beautiful cedar walls. The sauna is part of the cabin building so you just step out of the front door. Upon pre-approval, we will warm the sauna up for you--we just need three hours advance notice and a discussion with you. Towels are provided. Guests are not allowed to warm up the sauna themselves.

Sadly, the sandhill cranes have not returned to the nesting area for two years. In other locations, they can be seen from May into September, except when they are nesting in late June and early July. Sandhill cranes can be seen overhead, walking along the street, or strolling in Homer. Moose are regularly seen year-round walking through the property or in the neighborhood as well as eagles perched in the trees by the cabin. A walk on the streets in the neighborhood and an undeveloped subdivision offers majestic views of Kachemak Bay. When you are ready to walk the beach, go out to eat, get some groceries, or explore Homer, it is a short drive to downtown Homer (3 miles) and another ten minutes to the Homer Spit and Harbor for fishing, kayaking, and boating or bike riding on the Homer Spit Trail.

We have WiFi and good cellular coverage in the cabin—most days. There is no TV.

Take your breakfast or dinner outside on the deck to enjoy the spectacular views and at some times of the year fantastic sunsets over Cook Inlet with views of the volcanoes.

Homer Alaska is located on the South end of the Kenai Peninsula on Kachemak Bay and it is one of the jewels of the Kenai Peninsula. It is a very picturesque setting. Whether you look to the East or to the West, the view can be breathtaking. Alaska is on the list for many to visit and sometimes it can be troubling to make the decision on where to stay. There are hundreds of Bed & Breakfast's to stay in, numerous hotels and vacation rentals to choose from. Why choose R&R; because it is as close to home as you can get while being on the road. We offer privacy, real peace and quiet; which that is hard to find now a day's, and a very convenient location when it comes to activities that you might partake in while you are visiting. We are 3.5 miles from the center of town and another 4.5 miles to the Harbor. If you just wanted to take a hike after waking up, without getting in your car, our property abuts to some of the best hiking trails Homer has to offer. Whether you want to walk one mile or five miles, all you need are your hiking boots. Most visitors want to fish while they are in Homer and although we do not offer any guided services, we have been living in the community since 1978 and operated charter boats until the late 1980's. This gives us the opportunity to point you in the direction you want to go without a fee. After recreating, you will want to eat and if you want to come home and put your fresh caught fish on the grill, you can at R&R. All the amenities are provided to do just that. But if you want to dine out, my wife is retired from working in one of the finest eateries in town and had been in the service industry for 19 years. So we still keep abreast of the local eateries that provide good food! We have tried to make R&R affordable for our visitors, especially the ones that want to stay for awhile. Our prices might seem to be low, but that doesn't reflect the condition of the accommodations. It reflects our philosophy with travel. It's a price that we wouldn't mind paying if we were traveling, and it's always nice to be pleasantly surprised. R&R is just perfect for some. We are not the fancy high end resort with a million dollar view. We are simply a quiet comfortable home away from home. I can't ever recall having one of our visitors complain about the place. Enjoy a beautiful, hand-built timberframe guest house located on the top of the cross country ski trails in Homer, Alaska. Guests will have this lovely dry cabin all to themselves. The cabin has a kitchenette with a propane burner, coffee maker, electric hot water kettle and more.. Guests will have access to a beautiful private bathroom in the main house that has a private entrance. There is also an outhouse for guests just behind the cabin.

The space
You will find yourself in a private meadow often frequented by moose in the summer and fall months. The cabin is located on the perimeter of a cross country ski trail system with a 15km perimeter trail and many smaller loops within that. This cabin is perfect for ski-in ski-out weekends. You will need to walk to the cabin from the parking lot, approximately 50 yards.

1. Your host is a Professional cross-country ski coach who was on the Professional Ski Instructors of America National Nordic team for four years. Beginning - advanced cross country ski lessons and tours are avaliable upon request. The lessons run as an AirBnB Experience.

2. We have a very friendly dog named Jasper. He is half Australian cattle dog and half Australian shepherd. We will try to keep him inside as you move about the property but he will want to visit you. Please tell him to sit if you choose to pet him - he is exuberant and wants to jump up.

This repurposed playhouse is a simple, tiny space to unwind and delight. It is also very rustic...meaning no running water or plumbing. There is a cute, upcycled outhouse and lots of perennial plants, including raspberries, strawberries and rhubarb. This is a Tiny Cabin with a comfortable futon, a toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot and tea kettle. It has high speed internet. At 10x14, it is very small, but it has a commode and shower.

It's located within walking to the Farmer's Market (Wed. and Sat. late May to late Sept). We have two bikes available for your use and it is a lovely ride to the Harbor and the Spit.

What I love about this neighborhood is that it is so quiet. We don't have the million-dollar view, but we have easy access to everything!

As you can see from the photos, this is a piece of Heaven on Earth. This 8x 8 foot Man Cave with twin bed is for women to enjoy too! Additional guests can stay with a BYO tent.

No one is around (except for us) for a mile to any side; our 600 acre homestead is bordered by a 500 foot Canyon, and my house site of 5 acres is right on the bluff overlooking Kachemak Bay with mountains and glaciers on the other side.

We offer:
private hot outdoor shower, and sink, your private outdoor toilet, and clean 100% cotton bedding and towels provided, plus a heater!

Note this is off grid, which means no electricity. We do provide chargers for your mobile devices.

The outdoor camp kitchen offers barbecue, running water, hotplate, pure drinking water, spices and oils to complement your own cooking.

NOTE: The bed is a extra large Twin size, so best suitable for a single person, although a BYO tent could be set up on the large decking or lawn if necessary for extra guests.

We offer a charming one-room homesteader cabin on the bluff overlooking Kachemak Bay, about 4 miles from downtown Homer.

The space
The view from the yard is the stunning Kachemak Bay view, a front row view of the tide ebbing and flooding, and the mountains and glaciers across the bay. You will walk down our lawn about 100 yards to get to the one-room cabin; it is tucked in some trees on the bluff. There's a pleasant outhouse, an indoor cold water sink, and an outdoor hot shower on the back deck. The shower is lovely on a sunny day, chilly in a breeze. There is a wood-burning stove for serious warming, also a small propane heater for taking off the chill during the summer. There's a small refrigerator, microwave, and an electric teapot to make hot water, a drip coffee set-up, some coffee, tea bags, and honey from my bees. The cabin is not set up for real cooking. The deck is spacious and very warm on a sunny day, and has a table and chairs. The east-facing porch has a bench for your morning coffee.

There is a twin bed with another twin trundle that can be pulled out. The bed also serves as a couch. There are black-out blinds available for the windows for the bright summer nights, and a chamber pot for the night if you wish to use one.

There’s a challenging scramble to the beach for the fit and adventurous, with a rope to help. An easier access is about a 10 minute walk away. The beach is little-used, so is peaceful, and a good place to walk. A driftwood fire could be made on the beach. There are extra blankets to take outside to lounge on the lawn.

A tent could be set up on the grass for another person or two.

Guest access
Guests are welcome anywhere on in our yard. There are swings in a giant old birch tree. I have a big vegetable garden, with the possibility of things to share if you’re interested. In late summer there are raspberries. Sometimes we have a moose with a calf or two in early summer, so it's good to be aware.

Other things to note
The cabin is best suited for able-bodied people willing to rough it a bit in exchange for a stunning and secluded spot. It is about 100 yards to walk down the lawn from the parking spot to the cabin. The cabin is not set up for cooking beyond the microwave and hot teapot. There is a wifi signal coming from the rooftop of our house; the effectiveness varies. The doors do not lock. There is no TV.

The space
Separate studio unit on a shared property in sight of the main house. One queen bed and a kitchenette with a mini fridge, hot plate, tea and coffee.

Quiet neighborhood where you can often see the Sandhill Cranes fly in the summer, and pheasants, moose, and rabbits occasionally wander through.

We've recently updated the bathroom which is accessible via a door to the right of the bed. Our bathroom has a clean and updated glamping dry compost toilet, outlets, light and mirror. The shower is soon to be completed. The studio has hot and cold running water to freshen up. There are showers in town (see Red Door Laundry), and at the local gyms if needed. We provide towels.

We have one queen bed and two deluxe camping cots available. Please note, our max of three people is intended to accommodate two adults with one child, or one adult with two children. Two adults with two children will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
