Mid-Century DJ’s Dream
Apartment
Staatsburg, New York, USA

This is truly a unique experience where the space is actually a destination within itself. You will have access to my record collection. The records can be played on a real dj turntable and a incredibly vintage sound system. I was a DJ at The Pavilion in The Pines on Fire Island and a resident DJ at Splash in NYC. I will personally show you how to play records and will even DJ a secession for you if requested. The music genre includes disco, high energy, new wave, house, popular dance music and more. Including artist like Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Madonna, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and hundreds of more artists mainly from the years 1978 until 2004.
The yard which is one acre with 100s of acres of forest behind it, is beautifully landscaped with beautiful flower gardens personally planted by myself and a beautiful deck to sit and watch my paradise. I will personally bring you on tours of the gardens if requested. The space is in the lower level of my home and separate from my space. You have your own entrance, bathroom and shower. The main room is like a studio apartment, the bedroom and living room together. The next room has a table for eating or working at. This space also has a small kitchen space with a Keurig, dishes, glasses, flatware, mini fridge, microwave, and toaster oven. I supply K-Cups, teas, half & half, and water. There is a private bathroom with a shower. The washer and dryer are in a small open side room in this space. The yard is about an acre of property and you have full use of the yard and if you bring your dog they will just love running in the grass. To top it all off there is even a level 2 EV charger so when you arrive you can plug in and when you wake up in the morning you’re ready to go on your adventure for the day.
Located 15 minutes from Rhinebeck which has incredible restaurants including, Le Petit Bistro, The Amsterdam, Terripan, Cinnamon, Market St Aroi Thai, Gabby’s, The Tavern at Beekman Arms (the oldest Inn in the United States), plus more. Reservations should be made before your arrival for a number of these restaurants. Near many of the gilded age mansions. The Vanderbilt, Mills Estate, FDR Home, Montgomery Place, Olana, Wilderstein, and many more.
Near some of the greatest schools in the country. The Culinary Institute of America, Bard, Vassar, Marist, SUNY New Paltz. Make reservations to eat at the Culinary Institute’s many restaurants while you’re here. You should make your reservations well in advance of your trip so plan ahead.
If you love wine there are many beautiful wineries in the area but the most beautiful one is right here in Staatsburg just 15 minutes away.

We were planning to go out but it looked so nice I grabbed some supplies and made breakfast the second morning, which was a joy. Bedrooms are cozy, and the main room is pleasant to spend time in. - "We had a great experience in Hyde Park - the home was beautiful, spacious, historic, and had a large backyard for outdoor activities and yard games. Even with a sizable group of friends, we felt very taken care of and had all the modern amenities and comforts needed to enjoy ourselves. The location is within very close driving/walking distance of all the essentials (restaurants, grocery, etc.) - but still maintains an element of privacy that allowed us to really decompress and lean into "vacation mode". The property was clean & well-stocked, and Theresa was an incredible host, and easy to contact for check-in, support throughout the stay, even following up with us to ensure we had a positive experience. Looking forward for another stay in the future; definitely made my 30th birthday one to remember!"

- "Every year my brother, and myself take our mother away for a weekend trip for some quality family time. This year we rented Chris's house. The house is secluded so you are in your own private oasis but not more than 10-15 minutes from supermarkets or restaurants. The house itself is beautiful and well stocked with the essentials. Chris was never more that a text away and responds quickly. We spent the weekend playing various games inside and outside, BBQ, and finished each night with a movie. Thank-You Chris for a wonderful weekend!!"

Historic Hudson River View House

This lovingly furnished home in Hyde Park NY overlooks the magnificent Hudson River in a very quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Vanderbilt estates. It comfortably accommodates two guests.

The space
Beautiful Historic House on Hudson River

This furnished home in Hyde Park NY overlooks the magnificent Hudson in a very quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Vanderbilt estates. The property includes a beautiful garden with stunning views of the river and it is located directly across the street from a park with swings and a gazebo. The house was built in 1865 and is fully renovated. It is a one to two bedroom home with a porch and a balcony, a/c and includes all appliances (washer/dryer, refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, highspeed internet with WiFi, cable tv, dvd). This romantic getaway is 10 minutes by car from the Poughkeepsie train station, with Metro North running hourly trains to Grand Central, a relaxing 90-minute train ride along the river. It is a 20-minute drive from Rhinebeck.

Hyde Park's main street known as Albany Post Road or Rt. 9 is half a mile away, within walking distance. There you can enjoy breakfast at the local café and shop fresh produce at the Saturday Farmers' Market. The Hyde Park post office across the street from the café is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its construction was personally overseen by FDR and it houses murals depicting local history. If you're interested in natural wonders, rent a kayak or canoe from the River Connection nearby. Under their supervision you can depart with a guide through whom you will gain access to the tiny private harbor in front of your vacation home, to embark on a once in a lifetime excursion rowing yourself up and down the mighty Hudson and exploring the estuary up close. After working up an appetite, enjoy a fine meal at a local gourmet restaurant, a truly delicious steakhouse, or visit the renowned Culinary Institute of America within a five-minute drive.

Our home is directly located on the Hyde Park Walkabout Trail which leads straight to the Vanderbilt Estate in one direction, and the FDR estate in the other direction. On his way commuting from his job in Albany as Governor of New York, legend has it that FDR was known to sip the occasional cocktail on our balcony with his friend, the former owner of our house who happened to be a hound-keeper working for the Vanderbilts. FDR's train stopped right in front of our door. The train doesn't make stops there anymore, but the tiny station still stands and has been converted into a very unique train museum. Entrance to the Vanderbilt Estate is within a 7-minute walk from our house. The boundary of the FDR Estate is a 20-minute walk away. A path into the woods of the estate provides a lovely way of approaching the Roosevelt home and library which is another 40-minute walk away. From here you can also proceed to Eleanor Roosevelt's Val Kill, depending on how early you head out.

The bedroom is upstairs and has a queen-size bed. French doors lead into a study with a day bed and a desk facing the river. This house is the perfect place for a retreat, to spend time with friends, to wine and dine in a kitchen overlooking the river (see photo with the sailboat shot from the window above the kitchen sink) to read, write, and take long, beautiful walks.

Historic home with magnificent property
House
Hudson Valley

Enjoy a luxurious stay at One Vanderbilt Lane. Very close to the Culinary Institute of America, Walkway Over The Hudson, FDR Home and Library, Vanderbilt Mansion, Rhinebeck, Dutchess County Fairgrounds, Marist, Vassar and Bard Colleges.

A lovely, historic home, formerly part of the Vanderbilt Estate, a 19th century Gilded Age Mansion, in scenic Hyde Park,. When FDR was in town the secret service would sleep in this house. This is documented in the archives in the Roosevelt Library.

The space
One Vanderbilt Lane is located very close to the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), Vanderbilt Mansion and FDR Home and Library. It is next to St. James Church where FDR was baptized and where his funeral service was held. There are notable, historic figures buried in the cemetery in back of the church. Vanderbilt Lane is a National Historic site. The former Vanderbilt stables, blacksmith house, the creamery, a carriage house and farm workers residence are located on this street. One Vanderbilt Lane sits on approximately 4 acres of land with a vast array of foliage and gardens, built-in swimming pool, as well as a pond. Upstairs (available to guests), there are two bed rooms plus a half bath, both have flat screen TVs. The main bath for this suite is located next to the bottom of the staircase. The steps were put in at the time that the house was built and are not as modern as the ones built today. A person with mobility issues may have a problem climbing them. The upstairs rooms are cozy and have slanted ceilings. A large living area with fireplace on the main floor is a great place to relax. Should you desire to have your meals at One Vanderbilt, there is a large kitchen with a breakfast nook as well as a separate dining room for use, and a screened in porch with seating for eating. In summer and part of fall, a built in pool, out door barbecue and dining/lounge patio area are available. It's a great place to escape and get away from the stresses of life!

Guest access
Our home is comprised of two sections. Guests will have access to the main part of the house including the bathroom dedicated for the upstairs bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen/breakfast nook. There is parking for 3 cars in the rear of the house. An outdoor pool, barbecue and dining area are open and available during summer and part of fall. There is a desk in one of the upstairs bedrooms as well as a multi power plug with a phone charger on it.

My sister and I reside in a section of the house that is attached, but separate from the private areas guests will reside in during their stay. We share the main kitchen with guests.

During your stay
I look forward to welcoming all of our guests upon arrival and happy to assist with information. We understand that you may want to be on your own and self sufficient. Regardless, I look forward to hosting you and making your stay as enjoyable and hassle free as possible.

Other things to note
I have prepared a guide of our area, included on this site for reference, but it by no means includes all of what our area offers. If you are looking for things to do or see that are not in the guide, please let me know. We have a lot of information and suggestions for you.

The Gatehouse in Historic Hyde Park
House
Hyde Park

Our 1876 French Châteauesque home was the original Gatehouse of the sprawling Vanderbilt Estate in Hyde Park, New York. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 and was historically restored in early 2016. Find out more at thegatehouse (dot) us

The space
Designed in a French chateau-inspired style, each bay in the living and dining rooms features a pair of French doors that are topped with a rectangular transom. Other notable exterior features are the Vermont slate roof, the steeply pitched hip roof decorated with copper flashing and mahogany finials. A covered front porch spans the entire first floor.

The Gatehouse's elegant plaster walls, oak hardwood floors, high ceilings and mahogany spiral staircase reflect the wealth and influence Walter Langdon incorporated into its appearance. Langdon died in 1894 and his estate was purchased by Frederick Vanderbilt the following year. As part of Vanderbilt's extensive redesign of the grounds, he commissioned the construction of a new stone gatehouse. Vanderbilt ordered the Gatehouse to be moved 50 yards south to the edge of the estate grounds where it now sits at 4419 Albany Post Road as a private residence.

Guest access
Enter the Gatehouse through the back porch into the kitchen.

For your convenience the Gatehouse has a keyless Nest x Yale lock. The entry code will be provided to you upon confirmation of your booking.

NOTE: There's no entry through the front porch French doors. The doors lock from the inside so you must have someone on the inside to unlock the doors for entry.

There's ample parking in the driveway for about 4 vehicles.

Other things to note
There is so much to see and do in historic Hyde Park and the surrounding area. Biking, hiking, walking, antiquing, shopping, boating, eating and relaxing to you heart's content.

Chefs should enjoy the stunning gourmet kitchen. Cook on the Pro-Style Gas Range. Store your fresh ingredients in the Sub-Zero refrigerator. Make use of the Le Creuset cookware, Laguiole Knives and other high-end resources stocked in the kitchen. Enjoy the stunning, deep farmhouse sink. Clean up using the quiet, panel-hidden Miele dishwasher.

Outdoor enthusiasts should enjoy playing croquet, volleyball or horseshoes in the backyard. Or, simply relax in the backyard or rock your heart away on one of the rocking chairs on the front porch.

The Gatehouse sits on the edge of the 211 acre Vanderbilt Estate, one of America's premier examples of the country palaces built by wealthy industrialists during the Gilded Age. The estate grounds are open everyday from sunrise to sunset. In addition to a tour of the house and servant quarters, you should stroll, jog or bike the grounds where you'll see stunning views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. Be sure to visit the gorgeous Italian Gardens that are maintained by the Frederick William Vanderbilt Garden Association.

History buffs should visit the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library, Museum and Mansion. Take the guided tour of the museum and stroll the gardens and trails on this 300 acre site.

Dinsmore Golf Course is a public course just a couple of minutes north in Staatsburg. It offers panoramic views of the beautiful Hudson River and majestic Catskill Mountains.

Antique lovers will be in heaven here in Dutchess County. Hyde Park is home to a number of great antique shops. The Gatehouse is conveniently located to make quick drives to Rhinebeck, Red Hook, Beacon and other great towns where you'll find numerous antique shops.

Foodies will enjoy dining at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. You can eat at one of the five amazing restaurants which range from modern to farm-to-table and from authentic Italian to new global favors. I'm also a fan of the restaurant scene in historic Rhinebeck which is just a quick 7 minute drive north of the gatehouse.

Wine lovers should drive 18 miles west of the Gatehouse to enjoy a vineyard tour and wine tasting at Millbrook Vineyards & Winery. Called “the Hudson Valley’s flagship winery” by The New York Times and “a great place to visit” by The Wall Street Journal.
