This is a comfortable older, simple, and very well maintained 1400 square-foot, 2-story furnished home built in 1969. It is cozy, warm, and open with lots of sun & glass. Walking/biking distance to the University of Alaska Anchorage and the UMed campus (Providence Hospital complex, API, etc.).

The home entry provides immediate access going either up or down stairs. It has a heated single-car garage (lower floor with street entrance). The garage is suitable for a small-mid SUV or intermediate sized car. A large fenced back yard is great for kids. Sorry, no pets.

We offer an authentic Alaskan, roughly finished but comfortable, fairly priced private room with access to a shared full kitchen. With six separately listed bedrooms in a hard working family’s home, centrally located off of iconic College Rd, we give a local experience with the convenience of town. This house was hand-built in the 1950s and shows its age. Guests share some common areas with our family which includes a large dog (Tomo), two pups, 3 hosts and an older kiddo

The space
Our home has 5 bedrooms in the basement of its south wing. We provide a simple private room, with a key lock that has been cleaned thoroughly with Simple Green between each stay. Aside from the private room guests have the entire South wing to share including its one and a half bathrooms, kitchen with its cookware and color coded dishes for each room, dining room, and our spacious living room with books, tv, comfortable seating, and abundance of natural light. If you have a vehicle there is plenty of off street parking with electrical outlets on the Northside of the house facing College Rd. Our house is over 70 years old and has things like water damage from the 1967 flood, dated color schemes, and much more. Fashionable resort seekers will be disappointed.

We offer self check in or we can greet new guests that arrive before 10 PM. We are friendly introverts inclined to give guests their space, but are happy to socialize when engaged and answer any questions. We keep my name, phone number and WiFi password posted on a board in the dining room and I'm very responsive to texts.

We are environmentally conscious. 

We (4 adults/hosts) live on the premises, an adolescent, a cat you will never see, and a big fluffy dog Tomo in the north wing of the house you can't miss. There can be up to 6 other guests sharing this large house. 

Upon your arrival you will likely hear Tomo barking to let us know you have arrived. He is a friendly dog who has captured the hearts of many guests from around the world.

Our home looks its age as we don't have the means for cosmetic improvements.

In the summer we offer bike and tricycle rentals for $10 per day.

This is a basic cabin, nothing fancy with just the bare essentials. Enjoy the peaceful neighborhood, one bedroom cabin, a bathroom equipped with just an RV/boat head style toilet.

In the bedroom is a full-sized bed and the small kitchenette is basic but with a large refrigerator. Enjoy a full sized bathroom as well.

A short drive away from the cabin is a laundromat, grocery store and everything else you might need.

The space
A small cabin with the bare necessities in a quiet wooded neighborhood. There is a large TV mounted in the living room to play your own media or Netflix if you have wifi from your phone or a personal hotspot as there is no internet in the cabin at this time.

We'd like to mention once more that the toilet in the cabin is not your typical home toilet, it is an RV style cassette toilet as the home does not have a septic system or sewer. Some people prefer standard home amenities, but if you don't mind this style cabin living, you will love this comfortable place! For this reason as well as the heaters and outdoor area, this options is not suitable for small children as listed.

The heater options are propane and electric and they could potentially pose a burn hazard as well as fire if children are roaming or if you are not attentive.

Within 2-3 miles is a laundromat, grocery store, gas stations, Santa Clause's House and much more!

The house is situated off the main path, but just about 100 yards from the main road. As you access the home a short portion of the road is sometimes unmaintained. Just to keep this in mind during breakup or really rainy seasons for you vehicle access. Any car can do it, but in really bad conditions 4x4 can make it easier.

Other things to note
There is a large refrigerator and a small kitchenette with a microwave, dishes and two part sink. There is a pellet smoker grill available outside. Please ask if you are not familiar with these and please use it safely away from the home. The firepit also may not be usable depending on seasonal restrictions due to wildfires.

The property is not far off the main road, but it is about 100 yards of dirt road to the driveway. Seasonally there can be heavy snow on the road making it difficult for some vehicles to pass, or during breakup it can become very slushy or wet requiring all wheel drive.

Again, please note the section about the style of toilet and the fact that the home is heated with propane and electric, so please be mindful of the heaters and do not move or place anything combustible near them while they are on. You may adjust any of the heaters levels to your preference, but in the winter when you leave please make sure at least one is left on low so as not to let the house freeze! :)

Base Camp Anchorage is a hostel run by world travelers passionate about Alaska and its backcountry.
