- "Ok... This was an older hotel and they are improving it awesomely! The rooms are updated with new beds, brand new flooring, bedding and towels. It also has the largest shower and hotub combination I have ever seen. The pool area is completely updated, clean, and has a ping pong table and real swedish sauna where you pour water over the rocks. The owner Nick and his wife are awesome and they even built a hockey rink outside for their two kids. Finally, we were on our way to a VRBO, and shared that we had to bring our own towels)but didn't have any), so they gave us a couple of older clean towels to use, no charge. This is hospitality at its finest. :)"

Guest Reviews:

- "A perfect little family getaway! A very beautiful cabin on a fun little lake! Our boys had so much fun fishing from our boat, and we also enjoyed the paddle boat. If we hadn’t taken our boat, there were a lot of floating options available (kayaks, jon boats, and the 4 person paddle boat) which is awesome to have so many available options. The sunset was spectacular! The host was beyond great, very attentive. This would be a wonderful winter escape as well. We are hoping to make it back there this winter. :)"

Amazingly comfortable and secluded Northwoods getaway
Cabin
Hayward, Wisconsin, USA

Welcome to Birch Cove Cabin!

This beautiful four-season cabin features a gas fireplace (Heat n' Glo), lofted bedroom with king-sized bed, walk-out lower level family room, screened porch and elevated deck overlooking the 27 acre lake. On the main floor: full bath, living room, dining area and kitchen.

Located at the end of the road, you are surrounded by 10 acres of wooded property on this peaceful lake, with over 400 feet of shoreline. With westward facing lakefront views, there is an amazing view all year!

Updates:
- New bathroom towels and decor in 2025!
- New sheets and bedding. Yes, we have actually made your sleep at BCC even MORE comfortable. We guarantee an amazing rest while you are with us.
- Refreshed outdoor furniture for the screen porch, west (sunset) deck.
- The dock is closed for the 2025 season, with a new dock arriving for 2026! This may limit fishing and kayak options. We apologize while we make some improvements for safety and convenience.

Six guests can be accommodated by the king bed (loft) and two pull-out queen sofa sleepers: one each in the living room and family room (which doubles as a bedroom). And these aren't your grandparents' pull-out beds! From Room & Board, both sofa sleepers have premium, high-resiliency foam mattress with a quilted cotton cover for superior comfort with no bars or springs.

For extra guests (up to eight guests total) there is ample room to utilize the inflatable queen mattress in the loft or in the family room. There is one full bathroom on the main floor, and a 3/4 bath off the family room, along with full laundry facilities and room for equipment/luggage storage.

The kitchen is well-stocked and supplied with pots, pans, cooking utensils, toaster, microwave, service for eight (both indoor and outdoor dishes for an impromptu picnic), and plenty of mugs, wine glasses, beer glasses and tumblers for your beverages.

The deck and enclosed porch are furnished with seating for 6-8, along with a propane grill. There is a fire pit and stacked firewood between the cabin and the lake shore, and the area has been carefully cleared to maximize the view of the lake while maintaining the privacy and natural beauty that attracted us to the area. Landscaping efforts are yet underway!

Take a walk along the moss-covered path in the summer, through the leaves of the oak, serviceberry and birch trees in all their autumn glory, along the snow-covered woods in winter, and in the spring, over the emerging flora of the Northwoods. Listen for bullfrogs, songbirds, owls and loons. Watch for wildlife: Sightings of bear, deer, beavers, swans, owls, and turkeys aren’t unusual. Enjoy the peace and quiet of this private lake from the deck, hammock, lawn or dock.

Your Wisconsin retreat is 10 miles from downtown Hayward, WI and 5.8 miles from Springbrook center.

We offer you clean, comfortable accommodations, a quiet lakefront location, and an invitation to make yourself at home and enjoy the sights, sounds and peacefulness of the Northwoods.

Lastly but not least, you and your pets are very welcome with just a few reminders: the beds and furniture are for our human guests. If your furry family members are traveling with you, please note that in your reservation, and bring appropriate bedding for your pets.

We are glad to supply treats, dog wipes, towels for our non-human friends, and extra food and water bowels if you need them. We ask that you leave the cabin as you found it, and clean up any accidents along the way. We understand that they happen, and there are ample items in the laundry room to use as needed: enzyme cleaners/sprays, towels for cleaning, and a bucket if is a big job! Many, many thanks.

Winter advisory (December-April, when there is snow): we recommend that you have front wheel or all wheel drive, as Wolf Lane can get icy. While it is not imperative, it may he helpful. Our plow service is excellent (plowed with 4" or more of snow), and sanding is available if there is significant ice.

We made a few adjustments to address Covid-19 concerns during the pandemic, which we continue to maintain:
- We continue to thoroughly clean between guests, using approved products
- We pay special attention to high-touch areas such as door knobs, handles, and light switches, among others.
- We ask guests to check-in after 4:00 in order to more thoroughly clean between guests.
- We have added additional hand sanitizing products and virucidal wipes for guest use in the cabin.
- We have recently installed a washer and new dishwasher to ensure that linens, dishes, utensils and other "shared items" are appropriately cleaned and sanitized between guests.

Cabin
Hayward, Wisconsin, USA

Surrounded by trees, settled right on Lake Hayward sits this charming & cozy cabin in a little cabin community less than half a mile from downtown Hayward. Launch your canoe just steps from the cabin's entrance, bike into town for lunch, or go hiking or skiing on the nearby trails, this cabin is nestled in the perfect location!

This is a studio size cabin with one queen bed, a bunk bed with two twin mattresses, bathroom, kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave, keurig coffee, & outdoor grill.

This is a cozy, perfect little cabin right in the heart of Hayward with easy access to everything you will want to do during your stay here! We take pride in doing our best to make your stay a wonderful experience whether you're planning to use the cabin as your base camp while you explore Hayward and the surrounding areas or decide to stay in, relax, and unwind. We are constantly making improvements and upgrades to make your stay that much more enjoyable.

Easy access using a key code & key.

We love & have lots of dogs and know how important it is to bring your pooch along on your adventure. We are pet-friendly but please let us know if you plan to bring yours, as we do charge a cleaning fee ($30 per dog for the total stay). We may have to send you a separate request for this payment. We ask that you clean up after your dog (inside the cabin & outside), and do not leave your dog unattended in the cabin unless kenneled.

We provide the essentials - bath towels, shampoo/conditioner, soap, dish soap, coffee mugs, plates, utensils. We have a keurig coffee maker with coffee, sugar and creamer for you. We have a small fridge, microwave and sink. There is an outdoor grill however you will need to bring charcoal & lighter fluid.

This is a small cabin community with 8 cabins in total and some common/shared spaces - there are 2 community firepits that are for you to use, picnic tables, and multiple docks. You can bring and launch your canoe or kayak right here on the water.

FAQS:

Q: Can we check-in early or check-out late?
A: It depends. Check in is at 3pm. Ask me and we will do our best to let you know as soon as your cabin is available. We and our cleaning staff have strict protocols to follow and can't always have the cabin ready earlier than 3pm. Feel free to use the common grounds such as the firepits, docks, and shoreline beforehand but please allow our cleaning crew the space they need to properly prepare your space.

Q: Is there WiFi and is it any good?
A: Yes and yes! We upgraded our router in 2020. We've had many guests stay and "work from home" and students that complete their coursework from the cabin without a single complaint.

Q: Do we have cable TV?
A: No, not anymore. We have smart TVs so you can log in to your favorite streaming services. Just remember to log out before you leave.

Q: Do we provide firewood for campfires?
A: No, however you can purchase firewood at several local convenience stores and grocery stores for $5-6 per bundle. You may also see signs on the drive up to purchase firewood at various residences. There are strict regulations against transporting firewood from other areas so please don't do that. Often times previous guests will leave unused firewood behind so you might just get lucky and not need to purchase any at all. We also don't provide matches/lighters.

Q: Is the water safe to drink?
A: Yes! We are on the city water line so it is safe to drink and cook with. There is both hot and cold water.

Q: Do I have to clean up before I check-out?
A: Uh, no. That's our job! Just enjoy your stay. Leave ALL used dishes/silverware out so they can be sanitized. Don't worry about making the bed because we're replacing the linens anyway. Please just lock the door and restore the key in the key box.

Q: Why is the cleaning fee so expensive?
A: Although the cabin is small, it takes a while to change the linen, restock, sanitize dishes, mop, etc. We try to pay our cleaning crew a livable wage and add in the expense of laundry and common items we supply and it adds up very quickly. We don't make or attempt to make any profit off of the cleaning expense.

Q: Are the other cabins grouped close together?
A: Yes, the cabins are grouped closely. You can get a sense by looking through all the photos we have posted. Not all cabins on the premises are rented/rentable however.

Q: Is it a contactless check-in?
A: Yes, it is self check-in and check-out. You will receive a code to access the cabin key in a lockbox. Please return the key when you leave. It's that simple!

Q: Can I swim in the lake? Is there a beach?
A: We have a shoreline with 3 docks but the water gets deep pretty quickly off the shoreline. There are a few spots where it's a little shallower. For a true sandy beach, head to Hayward City Beach which is less than one mile from the cabin.

Q: Does the cabin have good heat?
A: Yes it does! We recently upgraded to mini-split heater/AC units. The heating and cooling is simply remote controlled and responds much faster than our previous heating system.

Q: Where's the flat sheet on the bed?
A: Keeping with the European-style theme, the bed has a duvet. We change and clean ALL linens after every stay and take great pride in our cleanliness. We also have an extra blanket stored if you need it.

Q: Is there enough room to park a boat/trailer?
A: Yes! The parking area is large enough for several vehicles. If you have a trailer, you can back in park in three different areas. We just ask that you not block anyone else in.

Q: Do we have a boat landing?
A: No, not at our location however there is a public boat launch about a half mile away. You can launch your boat there and tie it down on one of our docks! It's much less than a half mile by boat from the launch to the docks.

Q: What kind of fish are in Lake Hayward?
A: Musky, panfish, Bass, Northern Pike, Trout, and Walleye.

Q: Do we have boat or canoe/kayak rentals?
A: No, we don't however Hayward Outfitters/Hayward Water Sports does and they are less than a half mile away, right next to the boat launch.

Q: Are there hiking trails nearby?
A: There is a paved trail near the parking area for a brief, leisurely stroll. Otherwise check out the Hayward Chamber of Commerce site for hiking and other outdoor activities.

Q: Are there ATV/Snowmobile trails close by?
A: Yes. Trail access is just across the street from the parking area. You can find trail maps on the Hayward Lakes site or Sawyer County Alliance site.

Q: Are there any good places to eat?
A: Of course! We can't give recommendations but suggest you check out the Hayward Chamber of Commerce site for local dining options.

If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them!

- "Very nice little cabin, easy location. Loved the indoor / outdoor lights." - "My fiancé and I had a really relaxing stay at the Honey Bear Hideaway cabin. Very clean, nice patio, and everything we needed was within close proximity to Hayward. The Community campfire was also a hit!" - "Honey Bear Hideaway was seriously the cutest and quaint little cabin! The little walkway through the cluster of cabins is so idyllic and was the aesthetic I was looking for to wow my wife and give our kids a cozy and fun time in a new place. We were so grateful for how impressively clean the floor was specifically. Our infant daughter is crawling and was so relieving to feel like we could let her roam a bit and not have to feel like it was a hazard. My son loved having the bunk beds and now I have to build him one 😆Hayward itself was so fun and had lots to do and explore. The owner responded quickly in all my interactions with him and was warm and appreciative! Such an amazing time had by all of us, def recommend staying here!!"

We love & have lots of dogs and know how important it is to bring your pooch along on your adventure. We ask that you clean up after your dog (inside the cabin & outside), and do not leave your dog unattended in the cabin unless kenneled.

We provide the essentials - bath towels, shampoo/conditioner, soap, dish soap, coffee mugs, plates, utensils. We have a Keurig coffee maker with assorted coffees, sugar and creamer for you. We also have a regular coffee maker and provide filters. We have a small fridge, microwave and sink. There is an outdoor grill however you will need to bring charcoal & lighter fluid.

- "Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint cabin! The cabin had everything we needed, and having a separate bunkhouse for an extra sleeping area was a bonus. The owners were great and quickly responsive to any questions and even provided us a place to park our boat trailer. The fishing was great for panfish even off the dock and we caught several northern and bass. There was a great supply of firewood for our evening campfires. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind!"

- "This Nelson Lake home was a very clean and comfortable place for our group of 6 to stay while enjoying the Hayward area. The hosts were thoughtful in all they included to make it as easy as possible to move right in and start relaxing. We had grandparents (70s), my husband and I (40s), two kids (preteen) and a Lab, and we really enjoyed how the multiple levels allowed us to spread out. The kids loved to adjourn to the "bunkhouse" with full bed and in-wall electric fireplace. Our dog was happy hanging out on the upstairs deck, exploring the backyard with the long cable leashes that were provided, or going for early morning walks on the safe and quiet Hard Rock/Cty T loop. The adults appreciated the comfortable beds and furniture, on-site laundry, and all the extras that are quite often not included, such as toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap and laundry soap. The host also got in touch the week before our rental to make sure we had his contact info and to answer any questions we had ahead of time. Yes, there are steps to the lake, but we didn't find them to be any more taxing than at other homes with that setup in the Hayward area--of which there are many. A couple extras that might be nice in the future would be additional hooks or shelves in the downstairs bedroom closet and bath, but overall we were extremely impressed by the hospitality shown by Jon and the spotless and well-stocked home we enjoyed for the past week."

- "Our stay at The Northern Young Escape was a true delight! It is new, clean, comfortable, luxurious, modern, and cozy. As a rental it is well appointed, simple amenities and thoughtful touches abound, including a lot of area information if needed; excellent hosts as well. The beds are comfortable, the linens crisp and clean (the use of fragrance free laundry detergent was a big deal for us). Cozy couches, TVs, gas stove, lovely plants, throw pillows, blankets, etc- the design complimented the comfort. The outdoor living set up on the fabulous deck is perfect. I am a huge fan of modern design, this get-away could grace the pages of Dwell Magazine. Then there is the natural setting- a jaw dropping, tree-house feel and northern forest views with a multitude of amazing windows. The privacy and feeling of being separate was extraordinary. I have lived in WI, CO and OR, I am no stranger to amazing natural settings, and this is spectacular. Also, we spend a week or more in this area every year, I grew up in Trego and visit family. Practically speaking, vacation rentals are hit and miss as far as inventory, size, condition and location. The more luxurious places are often huge lake houses that sleep 15, while the tiny cabins are very "rustic" for those who want to rough it a bit. So as a small family, finding this place was very exciting. Whether you are looking for a rental in this area specifically OR simply a unique and beautiful destination, I cannot say enough about this place."

- "The pictures don't do it justice for how nice the interior is and how comfortable the beds are. The only thing it lacks is a large table to play games or eat around." - "The property was well-cared for and had just the amount of space we needed for the three of us. The hosts were lovely and we enjoyed meeting them briefly. We loved the solitude and peaceful mornings and evenings on the deck and saw deer cross through at each time. There was a huge fire pit area if we chose to use it and lots of beautiful walking paths and roads. Very secluded and peaceful there. We also were able to take advantage of fun or interesting places to visit near by."

NELSON LAKE--Nelson Lake is a premier fishing lake and most species can be caught directly off the lodge dock; bass, northern, crappie, blue gill, perch and an occasional walleye. With 31 miles of shoreline and over 3000 acres, guests can kayak, canoe, fish, swim and explore. Our local bait shop not only has great tackle and live bait, but stories and insights into the lake's best fishing holes. Two boat landings--within minutes of the lodge. You may boat to various restaurants & watering holes.

HAYWARD--We are 5 miles from downtown Hayward. We are less than 5 miles from hospital and library. So relax and enjoy the lake, but make a quick trip to town to enjoy all it has to offer. There are lots of adventures here in the Hayward area; world-class bike and ski trails, hiking trails, ATV and snowmobile trails. Golfers can choose from a large variety of courses, 9 or 18 holes, while searching for their hole in one. For those enthusiasts who are looking for unique eating experiences; there are restaurants, wineries, candy & ice cream shops, coffee shops, Friday night fish fry, steakhouse, bar & grills, saloons, BBQ joint, brew pubs, and the list goes. Don't forget to stop at the Big Musky -- Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fall; and area flea and farmers' markets.

EVENTS and FESTIVALS--Hayward is home to internationally and nationally renowned events such as the American Birkebeiner, World Lumberjack Championship and Chequamegon Fat Tire Race. Other events and festivals occur almost weekly.

Guest Reviews:

- "The property is part of a larger building, but the feel of an individual cabin is apparent as soon as you enter. The “suite” is designed with pine interior and attractive cabin decor with whimsical, fun touches such as the “bear” on the back of the chair in one bedroom and humorous signs about camp life. It is cozy, warm, and very clean. The kitchenette is well furnished with cooking equipment, dishes, a Kuerig including a variety of beverage choices, a small full size refrigerator, stove with oven, twin tub sink, and seating for two at a “bar” with stools. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom features an automatic light in addition to two other lights and fan. The shower is roomy with a hand-held option mounted high enough for tall people. Bring your own soap & towels. The open living-kitchen area has large windows on three sides offering plenty of natural light. The view over the lake is amazing, especially if you are awake for a sunrise. There are blinds to close for those who want to sleep in. There is plenty of bright lighting in all parts of the cabin. We stayed three nights while volunteering at the Expo at the Berkebeiner in nearby Hayward. Our hosts, Jackie and Jamie, were very friendly and were available if we needed them for anything. Jamie even cleared the snow off our car one morning! (Leaf blowers are good for snow, too!) We hope to find time to return in a different season when we can stay on site more to enjoy the lake view."
