If like me, you assume that in 2023 "internet" means "wifi", be aware that there is no wifi, despite the fact that there is a wifi router on the nightstand. Kind of annoying, but as advertised. It's a bit far from all the Birkie festivities if you're going to and from Cable/Hayward, but a nice place to relax after the race!"

Pinecone retreat is a newly built cabin in 2008. It is in a great resort, Spiderlake resort. We are on a chain of 5 lakes. The cabin has a great view to the water and just down the hill is your dock. A little further over are 2 more docks and a swimming area.

This cabin is in a great recreational area. There are many other lakes nearby. Snowmobiling and ice fishing in the winter and ATV riding in the summer.

Just 5 miles away is Birchwood with many restaurants and shopping. There is also Doolitle park a great place for the kids to play. Just Rite on Main is a great shopping experience enjoyed year round.

Pinecone retreat is also setup for crafters. We have tables and chairs and a mini kitchen. Scrapbookers love to come here for a peaceful place to work on their projects.

The cabin is handicap accessible with two bedrooms and one bath. Bedroom one includes a lake view with a queen bed and twin bunk above. Bedroom two includes a queen bed with two twin bed bunks above. There is a pull-down queen-size murphy bed in the living room. Sandy, shallow entry into the lake-great for kids and floaties! There is a kayak, paddle boards, and a peddle boat for your use as well as a horseshoe pit and a volleyball net! Bring your boat!

The "Gatekeeper" cottage is our first cottage here at Stonehaven. It has a beautiful natural gas stone fireplace in the living room and a Full size sofa sleeper, full kitchen, full bath on the main floor. The sleeping loft has a Queen bed and a half bath. (Need to be able to climb ladder stairs to lofted bedroom). A spiral staircase leads you down to the lower level which has an additional bedroom with a Queen bed, full bathroom, and also a Queen sofa sleeper in the extra living room space. The lower level also has a walk out french door to the patio and campfire area. Patio will not be completed until late summer, or early fall. :)

The space
Apple maps is accurate for getting to Stonehaven Cottages, but google maps is still in the process of placing our address correctly on their system. Our cottage is smoke free. If you smoke, you are welcome to smoke outside on our porch that wraps around the entire front of the cottage or anywhere outdoors where the smoke does not affect others. Fireworks of any type are strictly forbidden on the property.

The Lake
Tuscobia Lake is a beautiful spring fed wilderness lake. During the summer months most of the lake is very weedy and is best suited for canoeing, row boats, and kayaks. The north end of the lake however, is 24 feet deep with much less weeds, and our guests are able to take a mile or so pontoon ride down to that end and swim off of the pontoon. The lake itself is visible from the front porch of the cottage, but it is about a quarter mile walk to our dock area. There are also several campfire areas that overlook the lake for our guests to enjoy.

Guest access
Guests have the entire cottage to themselves and can also use any of our hiking trails and campfire areas throughout the 40 acre property. We have a complementary paddle boat, canoes, Kayaks and rowboats that can be used on Tuscobia Lake by any of our guests. As owners, we are living on the property so if you need anything, we are just a phone call away. One of us is available almost 100% of the time.

Other things to note
Regular pricing is $175.00 per night on weekends (Fri. and Sat.) and $150.00 per night on week nights (Sun. -Thurs.). Saturday nights the noise from the Rice Lake Speedway can be heard. The speedway is out a mile away and the level of noise varies based on the wind direction.

- "The Gatekeepers Cottage was fabulous! It was even better then what the pictures showed. Such a great use of all the space and beautifully decorated. The owners checked in on us shortly after arrival to see if there was anything we needed and to point out the different activities available to us. We enjoyed taking the kayaks out and hanging out on the front porch. We would definitely stay here again - possibly in the winter after learning that the snowmobile trails are just across the road."
