This GeoDome sits on a lush piece of land off on a private gravel road immediately off of 321 in Blowing Rock. We don’t have many neighbors, but the ones that we do are very friendly and you’ll may see them driving by as You are on your way in and out. The Blowing Rock Geodome sits at the very top of the only road in and out of the community, so please be sure that you do not block the road in any way that might impede our neighbors from getting by.

ACCESS REQUIREMENTS: The GeoDome is nestled in the mountains and accessible via a beautiful mountain road. Please note that in order to drive to to the GeoDome, a front wheel drive, 4x4 or AWD vehicle is required due to the terrain. High clearance is not required but AWD and 4x4 is recommended and at a bare minimum front wheel drive is required.

For guests without front wheel drive, 4x4 or AWD, there is a dedicated parking space and does require a 350’ walk to the dome. You’re welcome to enjoy the walk or drive in if you have front wheel drive, 4X4 or AWD.

Driving to the GeoDome is unlike navigating a typical city street. Drive cautiously, take your time, and you'll have a safe and enjoyable journey.

This cabin is located on 20 acres of land off a private gravel road that is just off of Highway 321 in Blowing Rock. While we don't have many neighbors, the ones we do have are very friendly and you may see them driving by throughout the day. The cabin is situated at the top of the only road in and out of the community, so please make sure to not block the road in any way that could obstruct our neighbors' access.

Highway 321 will be cleared appropriately in winter months. As for the road off of 321 to this cabin, it is paved but in the event of inclement weather - 4WD or AWD is suggested in winter months.

While the road to the house does melt quickly, it can be tricky with snow.

If you’re headed further into the High Country, we’d encourage you to take a drive. We highly recommend taking the longer route on the Blue Ridge Parkway to get from where you are to where you’re going. If you’re looking for another scenic route, be sure to take Shull’s Mill road if you’re headed toward Banner Elk or Valle Crucis.

While you stay, there will be plenty of room to park. Feel free to park on the concrete next to the garage or on the gravel.

We live in downtown hickory. You will have your own private space located in the back of our home. It is a studio with a kitchenette. No stove/oven and only a beverage fridge. Adjoining your studio is an un air conditioned game room with pool table/ping pong and workout equipment. We have an outdoor shared space with a grill and fireplace.
We also have a super cute golden doodle named Louis, who might be inside the fenced area. Please keep all fence gates locked.

The space
My attached apartment space is well lit and is on the lower level with a separate driveway and entryway. The home and apartment is at the end of a cul-de-sac and offers privacy. My home is only two miles from lake Hickory and a local boat access used for boating, fishing, and walking (exercise). My space is a 50 minute drive from Blowing Rock/Boone Area and about an hour from Asheville, Charlotte, and Winston Salem.

I am about an hour to hour and a half from the Biltmore Estate, the Bank of America (Carolina Panthers) Stadium, Apple picking, snow and water skiing, great hiking, the Blue Ridge Parkway(beautiful scenery during the fall when the leafs change color) and great shopping in Charlotte or the Outlets in Blowing Rock. I’m less than ten miles from the CRAWDADS stadium and Hickory Metro convention center.

Guest access
Guests have access to the walkout basement floor apartment. Private outdoor patio seating area. All guests have access to a bathroom, a living area with wood burning fire place, and a kitchen space.

The entrance to the studio is behind the house. There is a large private driveway for you to park. We suggest not parking in it at all, however if you choose to do so you assume any potential risk of damage to your vehicle as it is a small space.

Hickory also has public transportation available and many places are within walking distance.

We provide a starter supply of tp, paper towels, and soaps.

Daytime Monday -Friday street parking is limited to 2 hours per space. Guests can park on the street overnight and all day Saturday and Sunday. No parking enforcement over the weekend. Cars should be moved by 10:00am on weekdays to avoid a parking ticket which is $5. Cars can return to street parking around 4:00pm. A free 24 hour lot is located on the backside of the block and can be accessed through the back courtyard.
Due to the high ceilings on the first floor the steps are more like a story and a half. There is a landing mid way.

The Local Yokel is in a rural setting, amongst other homes with small farms, and a southern way of life, yet very close to all you need in Hickory (Right off of HWY 321). Set in the country, it is connected to a triplex apartment building on a dead end road. The space
A dirt drive with some gravel allows for large parking area right in front of the Local Yokel. Two small decks with 2-3 steps to enter into either the front or back door. What the outside of the Local Yokel lacks, you will find the inside makes up for. Two comfortable sitting areas in the kitchen, there are two bar stools and a table with two chairs. A futon in the living space offers another sleeping option as well as a full size inflatable mattress. Easy access to the home with August locks, allows the guest to have their own access code or to use their phone to gain access to the home.

There is a gas grill, and fire pit on the concrete patio. These are for use by property residents and guests. There is one designated guest parking space. You're welcome to use the pedal boat at your own risk— must wear life jackets. There is a small sandy beach area by the lake--this varies based on lake water levels, which are controlled by Duke Energy and Mother Nature. Lakefront Serenity has its own private entrance

Other things to note
As the photos reflect, the property sits on a hill (as do most area lake properties). There are a total of 24 steps (divided by a landing) leading up to the garage apartment.

The bedroom has one queen bed and one twin(captains bed). A 4th person can sleep on the sofa.

There are cats that live on the property. They are NOT allowed inside Lakefront Serenity.

*There is a security/video camera located on the property, by the front door of the main house next door to Lakefront Serenity. This shows views of the driveway, main house front door and side of the garage. There are no cameras located on the apartment’s front door or deck.

Hickory is in the foothills of Western North Carolina. It is a city of about 40,000 persons that anchors a metropolitan area of 350,000, and as such has most of the amenities you would expect -- all restaurant chains, a mall, major shopping. One of the main reasons to come here is the ability to purchase high quality furniture at a discount.

Aside from the shopping opportunities, Hickory is a wonderful "jumping off" place to explore this half of North Carolina. We are an hour from Charlotte (which is also the closest major airport and a hub of American Airlines), which is heavily steeped in NASCAR racing, among other things. An hour to the west is historic Asheville, home of the infamous Biltmore Mansion -- truly a day trip worth the price of admission; the United States largest private residence, available for touring. Asheville has a wonderful atmosphere with a great deal of live entertainment, festivals, and things of that nature.

Speaking of nature, you can also drive a mere 45-50 minutes to the north into the mountain towns of Blowing Rock and Boone. The Blue Ridge Parkway landscape and foliage are unrivaled. There's also skiing (although if you're used to double diamonds you'll be somewhat disappointed), numerous golf courses and lots of nature trails available for camping and hiking in the Pisgah National Forest.
