Welcome to our mountain basement suite!

Black Mountain is an amazing place, and we are located right in the midst of the beauty. Our home is 1 mile from downtown Black Mountain, and a very short walk to Lake Tomahawk, as well as Black Mountain Golf Course. We are a 20 minute drive from Downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance. There is an abundance of nature surrounding us, with tall trees, mountains, birds and occasional wildlife! We love this town, and hope to share it with you!

The space: The suite is located in the basement of our home with its own parking and private entrance in the back of our house. There is an outdoor space with a firepit in the side yard for you to enjoy as well. The suite is a large studio with has its own kitchenette (including a sink, mini fridge/freezer, microwave, stove top, coffee maker, kettle, blender, and toaster). There is also a garment rack, and a full private bathroom with large shower. 40” TV, Wifi and a Roku including Netflix for you to enjoy.

We are dog friendly!!! We allow up to 2 dogs at a time (at an additional cost). We also request that for liability reasons, dogs are not left indoors for more than 2 hours at a time and that they are not allowed on the furniture. We trust that if you are bringing your pet, that they are behaved and you can monitor them around our furniture, bedding, etc. We do charge a $30 pet fee for the first dog, which you'll pay for at the time of booking :) If you have two dogs, then we will send you a request for an additional $15. NO cats, sorry!

Other things to note:
We do live in the upstairs portion of the home. If we are here, you are likely to hear us walking around or talking as it is an old house! However, we are very courteous of our guests and will remain as quiet as possible during your stay. We have never had complaints about this, but want to be transparent.

This is a basement and is a house in the mountains and in a heavily wooded area, therefore, depending on the season, there may be small insects/bugs that come for a visit! We do what we can to minimize this but must disclose.

The fireplace is not in use, we do have a fire pit outside you are welcome to.

Because we get a lot of rain in this area, we try to keep humidity levels in the basement down. We have a dehumidifier in there and if you like you’re welcome to empty out the reservoir to keep it running (it only fills in certain times of year). We have also added an air purifier to help with the air quality.

We take pride in our home, our VRBO, and in being hosts. We run this with a passion, and we want our space to reflect this. If you have any issues whatsoever, please let us know immediately. We have done our best to describe the property, and we do a thorough clean after every guest. If we have missed anything, please let us know. We want to provide you a 5 star worthy experience all the time!

This house is over 100 years old and presents itself as such.

Black Mountain Lodge has five units, each with a separate entrance. The door for Unit 1 is in the center of the front porch. There are steps that lead up to the porch. Inside this 540 sq ft space you will find a beautiful suite consisting of a combined living and bedroom and featuring a dramatic stone fireplace with a gas heater on the hearth. The room is sunny and bright, and the hardwood floors add a warm feeling to the space. A new sofa was added December 2023. The full kitchen is well stocked with everything you need for preparing all your meals. There is also a smart tv you can use to log into your streaming subscriptions. There is 1 bed for sleeping up to 2 guests. The sofa is for sitting, not sleeping. Due to fire zoning regulations we cannot allow cots or air mattresses on the floor. This home is over 100 years old and sits among large, old trees. Unfortunately due to this setting, insects will often make their way into the home. This is a non smoking property.

We welcome pets, and if you bring one please be considerate of other groups in the building. Please no dogs that bark if you are away. Dogs must be in a crate if left alone. Keep dogs on a leash at all times.

Please note that we do not have a front desk or concierge service. Staying with us will require some “self sufficiency”. You can self check in any time after 4pm and self check out any time before 10am on your day of departure. We are available during reasonable hours to address any questions or concerns, but please note that we are not a corporation and don’t have 24 hour staff. This is a very old house with gas furnaces for heat and window units for air conditioning. You may hear your neighbors. But we do ask that all guests be respectful of one another and that guests with pets, not bring barking dogs that will bother others in the house. You are 10 minutes from Montreat and great hiking trails. The guest suite is nestled in the trees with natural light. The kitchenette has a coffee pot, full size fridge, toaster oven, two eye burner hot plate, microwave, and a toaster. Suite 5 is part of a large, renovated house and is so close to the main streets of Black Mountain, just a short walk to shops and restaurants...it is a great location! The room is fully equipped with all you need (stove,microwave, fridge, dishes etc) and has a very generous supply of coffee and tea but it's main draw is its proximity to the town and its reasonable price. If you're wondering on the size of the room, we are average sized people and didn't feel cramped at all and we loved it (we would definitely return to Suite D). The owners are so helpful and kind and will bend over backwards for you. I highly recommend this little space!"

We created this space with the intention of providing a comfortable resting place for visitors while also sharing our love for Spain. Enjoy the privacy of your patio with a view of the bountiful garden and landscaped yard, complete with fire pit and grill. The kitchen is fully stocked for your convenience. The bathroom was inspired by La Alhambra with wall to wall tiles and custom backsplash by your host. The bedroom has a medium firm queen size bed, a reading nook and a small wardrobe. In the living area, we provide a comfortable sofa that easily converts to a queen size bed so that the studio can accommodate up to 4 guests. We offer a 26 foot long driveway for guests who may have larger vehicles. We clean the apartment ourselves, do not charge a cleaning fee and don't ask you to do any chores before you leave.

Designed to maximize our guests comfort we have a tempurpedic style mattress with luxury bed linens, all cotton. In our kitchenette we have an electric kettle, air fryer/toaster oven, coffee maker, microwave, blender and french press coffee pot. This kitchenette is meant for VERY LIMITED COOKING. Ample towels will be provided for your use and large beach towels for hot tub use. Bring your flip flops and a robe. Enjoy the deck with private, wooded views all around and fairy lights strung from the rafters to light your hot tub and outdoor experience. There is an outside table and another outdoor seating area near the hot tub. We are now offering "Found Object Art" by local artist Fred Feldman to purchase as souvenirs from Black Mountain.

Car would be recommended, but biking around Black Mountain is definitely doable. There is plentiful parking in and around Black Mountain. Free parking for one vehicle in our driveway. If you have a second vehicle, please park it at the nearby Ingles grocery store.

A long paved private driveway leads up to a secluded mountain retreat surrounded by woods and graced with a huge porch overlooking a tree-carpeted valley and mountains. Enjoy good well-water or coffee watching the sun rise, or sip a nightcap gazing at the moonrise. Step into a spacious, cozy floor plan of this second-story apartment with a fireplace and lots of natural light. Gather around the granite-topped island in the kitchen while making dinner, play a board game, or rest and be thankful.

The space
This upstairs apartment will provide you with a comfortable and private space from which you can explore Black Mountain/Montreat, Asheville (~18 miles or 24 min away), and beyond. The open floor plan with living room, dining room and kitchen make a continuous space for socializing.

The house is about 1.5 miles north of the quaint little downtown of Black Mountain with a variety of nice restaurants, breweries, antique shopping, and nightlife.

About 1.5 miles going in the other direction is the heart of Montreat, from where you can sit by Lake Susan, play at the playground and creek in the Robert Lake Park, or choose from over several hiking trails.

You might even have a wildlife sighting or two, including deer, fox, hummingbirds, box turtle, bobcat, opossum, or black bear (which are harmless, but better to keep your distance).

A dedication parking spot for your standard-size vehicle at the top of the driveway. (Ask me if you expect you’ll need more room.)

Due to Hurricane Helene, we have several trees down throughout our wooded hillside property, so it [the tree debris] looks a bit ‘messy’, especially over the barren winter months, but the view at the top is still gorgeous. :)

Originally built in the late 1970s, the house included an upstairs apartment and a two-door garage unfinished basement. When our family bought it in 1986, we renovated the downstairs into an apartment that we used when we came to the area to visit relatives each summer. Over the years, we extended the downstairs and did other renovations.

Guests have the privacy of the entire second floor apartment with its own entrance and porch.

Let yourself in and out on your own with a keypad at ANY hour, but please respect the quiet hours (11 PM-7 AM).

A large fully-stocked kitchen is continuous with a spacious living room and dining table. The fridge, new stove, and new dishwasher are fully available for you to use. Traditional coffee maker and pour over coffee are available, as are plenty of cookware, cutlery, plates, bowls, coffee cups, and glasses for your use.

Pantry space is available for groceries and other foodstuff you might bring for your stay or buy during your stay. Basic spices in the cabinet are available for your use.

Washer and dryer are behind the closet doors next to the kitchen.

Other things to note
I live in the downstairs apartment, so we may hear each other coming and going (outside), but otherwise, we’ll maintain each other’s privacy. (My bedroom is in the back corner, so it’s not directly below your master bedroom.)

After you make your reservation, you will receive an email with instructions for access, including a keyless access code if your home has keyless entry. Looking for the perfect mountain rental, located right in the center of the bustling town of Black Mountain? Look no further than the Artist Sky Loft. Originally constructed in 1918, this two-bedroom, two-bath rental home integrates the old with a meticulous upgrade, making it a perfect location for exploring Black Mountain and its seemingly endless shops and restaurants. Best suited for adults who don’t mind the weekend’s live music.

The space
One flight above street level, guests are greeted by a charming blend of old and new. While the whole home has been brought up to date, it maintains its charm with certain elements, like original bedroom doors and the old brick wall that is incorporated into the kitchen. Each of the two bedrooms has a king-sized bed and armoire. One bedroom is en suite. The whole rental contains paintings and artwork including hand-crafted vases. Bustling coffee shop by day, bar with live music on the weekends, the space below the Loft can be noisy (and lots of fun).

Other things to note
Artist Sky Loft is conveniently-located above a coffee, beer and wine bar owned and managed by your Hosts. There is often live music by local musicians on the weekends and some Thursday nights. While the bands are small (one or two musicians playing together) the crowds can be big. If you don’t enjoy nightlife, please consider a weekday stay.
