Welcome to our mountain basement suite!

Black Mountain is an amazing place, and we are located right in the midst of the beauty. Our home is 1 mile from downtown Black Mountain, and a very short walk to Lake Tomahawk, as well as Black Mountain Golf Course. We are a 20 minute drive from Downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance. There is an abundance of nature surrounding us, with tall trees, mountains, birds and occasional wildlife! We love this town, and hope to share it with you!

The space: The suite is located in the basement of our home with its own parking and private entrance in the back of our house. There is an outdoor space with a firepit in the side yard for you to enjoy as well. The suite is a large studio with has its own kitchenette (including a sink, mini fridge/freezer, microwave, stove top, coffee maker, kettle, blender, and toaster). There is also a garment rack, and a full private bathroom with large shower. 40” TV, Wifi and a Roku including Netflix for you to enjoy.

We are dog friendly!!! We allow up to 2 dogs at a time (at an additional cost). We also request that for liability reasons, dogs are not left indoors for more than 2 hours at a time and that they are not allowed on the furniture. We trust that if you are bringing your pet, that they are behaved and you can monitor them around our furniture, bedding, etc. We do charge a $30 pet fee for the first dog, which you'll pay for at the time of booking :) If you have two dogs, then we will send you a request for an additional $15. NO cats, sorry!

Other things to note:
We do live in the upstairs portion of the home. If we are here, you are likely to hear us walking around or talking as it is an old house! However, we are very courteous of our guests and will remain as quiet as possible during your stay. We have never had complaints about this, but want to be transparent.

This is a basement and is a house in the mountains and in a heavily wooded area, therefore, depending on the season, there may be small insects/bugs that come for a visit! We do what we can to minimize this but must disclose.

The fireplace is not in use, we do have a fire pit outside you are welcome to.

Because we get a lot of rain in this area, we try to keep humidity levels in the basement down. We have a dehumidifier in there and if you like you’re welcome to empty out the reservoir to keep it running (it only fills in certain times of year). We have also added an air purifier to help with the air quality.

We take pride in our home, our VRBO, and in being hosts. We run this with a passion, and we want our space to reflect this. If you have any issues whatsoever, please let us know immediately. We have done our best to describe the property, and we do a thorough clean after every guest. If we have missed anything, please let us know. We want to provide you a 5 star worthy experience all the time!

Please make sure your four-legged are trained, adult, well behaved and not left alone within the premises uncrated, or for any length of time.

This house is over 100 years old and presents itself as such.

Black Mountain Lodge has five units, each with a separate entrance. The door for Unit 1 is in the center of the front porch. There are steps that lead up to the porch. Inside this 540 sq ft space you will find a beautiful suite consisting of a combined living and bedroom and featuring a dramatic stone fireplace with a gas heater on the hearth. The room is sunny and bright, and the hardwood floors add a warm feeling to the space. A new sofa was added December 2023. The full kitchen is well stocked with everything you need for preparing all your meals. There is also a smart tv you can use to log into your streaming subscriptions. There is 1 bed for sleeping up to 2 guests. The sofa is for sitting, not sleeping. Due to fire zoning regulations we cannot allow cots or air mattresses on the floor. This home is over 100 years old and sits among large, old trees. Unfortunately due to this setting, insects will often make their way into the home. This is a non smoking property.

We welcome pets, and if you bring one please be considerate of other groups in the building. Please no dogs that bark if you are away. Dogs must be in a crate if left alone. Keep dogs on a leash at all times.

Please note that we do not have a front desk or concierge service. Staying with us will require some “self sufficiency”. You can self check in any time after 4pm and self check out any time before 10am on your day of departure. We are available during reasonable hours to address any questions or concerns, but please note that we are not a corporation and don’t have 24 hour staff. This is a very old house with gas furnaces for heat and window units for air conditioning. You may hear your neighbors. But we do ask that all guests be respectful of one another and that guests with pets, not bring barking dogs that will bother others in the house.
