Inside dining or on the patio will allow you to bask in this exquisite location which is very private. You will be surrounded by trees, a beautiful garden, and nature. A babbling brook runs through the land. You may see a family of bears ambling through the yard. There are beautiful butterflies and hummingbirds to admire. You’ll notice details like copper fixtures, a handmade copper range hood, 12” window sills, beautiful 150 year old kitchen cabinets salvaged from a Manhattan, NYC apartment building, drawers made from antique French panels, and old barn ceiling beams.

September 27, 2024, is a day we will never forget here in WNC. Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc to this area of our mountains. Slowly but surely, we are rebuilding.
Grandma's Cabin was miraculously spared and is now up and running.
We do need to let everyone know that the road conditions are rough in some parts. The town of Chimney Rock is closed to the public while being rebuilt, Despite the devastation there is still so much beauty in this area in the land and people.

All linens, blankets and towels are provided and we have an extra large Washer & Dryer for your use. We also have hair dryers for your use while visiting. The custom made (from reclaimed bowling alley lanes) dinning table really seats 16, there are 3 stools for seating at the kitchen bar and extra chairs and tables if needed for family gatherings. Steps from the cabin is a shed that has firewood for your use in the winter months. For outdoor grilling, we have a propane gas BBQ grill for you to use. SMART TV'S in all areas and bedrooms with unlimited YouTubeTV with tons of local and cable channels, and all the apps you expect, that you can access with your login/pw to use. There are Flat Screen TVs located in the family room, the lower level recreation area and ALL 5 Master Suites. The Wi-Fi Internet is provided through Sky Runner and works great for surfing the web, checking emails, and streaming. The house has a landline for unlimited U.S. telephone calls. Cell service depends on your carrier, but Verizon cellular service works best for mobile phones. We also have an outdoor gas fire table.

PET POLICY: Up to 2 well behaved dogs MAX. (no cats) that are NOT puppies, that ARE housebroken, that NEVER chew and will not scratch or freak out and scratch when you leave, assuming you don't bring your own cage to use while you are out. $195 non-refundable pet fee and you must get prior owner approval as to the type of dog(s) before any pet are permitted.

Friends ask why we are renting such an amazing log cabin. After living in New York and South Florida for over 30 years, our family decided to move to the enchanting town of Asheville, NC to raise our children. We still love living in Asheville, but we wanted a mountain escape that our family could enjoy from time to time. After years of searching we found the perfect Mountain Top site to build our dream vacation and eventual retirement home that is in a gated community with paved roads and some of the most breathtaking views in North Carolina. The best part was that is less than 30 minutes to Asheville. So in 2018 we built the most amazing log cabin vacation home in the perfect spot with 360 degree views as far as the eye can see. Since we live so close and enjoy it all the time, we decided to share this incredible log cabin so other families can enjoy it as much as we do.

Kurig and Drip Coffee Makers are provided as well as crock pot, Ninja blender and all the items you will need to prepare your meals. We also provide hair dryers and iron/ironing board. There is an oversized stone covered WOOD Burning Fireplace indoors that can be used from October 1 to March 31. You can use the outdoor fireplace year round. The wrap around deck, with seating for 16+, has couches and chaise lounges are excellent for entertaining. They also provide year round peace and quiet while listening to the sounds of nature. There is an outdoor 6 person HOT TUB on the lower level that affords privacy. The GAME ROOM is fun for the young and old alike. We have a large screen TV for sports lovers in the Family Room and Basement Recreation area. If you like foosball, Ping-Pong, board games or tons of books, we have that too. Our gated community is entirely paved so you will not need an all-wheel or four-wheel drive car. The oversized driveway is not steep and can easily accommodate up to 8+ cars.

COMET FALLS LODGE is truly a unique mountain retreat that you never need to leave. There are countless hiking trails, streams, rivers and waterfalls nearby. The most common animals that you may encounter while out and about are deer, wild turkeys, rabbits and birds that span the colors of the rainbow. You may get lucky and spot a bear. At COMET FALLS LODGE, you will feel a million miles away, but you are minutes from the cultural conveniences of Asheville & Black Mountain. All linens, blankets and towels are provided and we have an extra large Washer & Dryer for your use. We also have hair dryers for your use while visiting. The custom dining table (made from reclaimed bowling alley lanes) really seats 16 VERY COMFORTABLY, there are 4 stools for seating at the kitchen bar and extra chairs and tables if needed for family gatherings. We also provide firewood for your use in the winter months. For outdoor grilling, we have a propane gas BBQ grill in the garage for you to use. TV service is provided by You tube TV with tons of local and cable channels and apps you can log into with your accounts. There are Flat Screen TVs located in the family room, the lower level recreation area and ALL 5 Master Suites. The Wi-Fi Internet is provided through Sky Runner and works great for surfing the web, checking emails, and streaming some movies. We also have Starlink internet which works great so we have 2 sources of high speed internet for you. The house has a landline for unlimited U.S. telephone calls. Cell service depends on your carrier, but Verizon cellular service works best for mobile phones. We also have an outdoor wood burning fireplace with cozy couches. There are security cameras on the outside of the house, there are no cameras anywhere inside the cabin.

PET POLICY: Up to 2 well behaved dogs MAX. (no cats) that are NOT puppies, that ARE housebroken, that NEVER chew and will not scratch or freak out and scratch when you leave, assuming you don't bring your own cage to use while you are out. There is a $195 non-refundable pet fee and you must get prior owner approval as to the type of dog(s) before any pets are permitted.

After living in New York and South Florida for over 30 years, our family decided to move to the enchanting town of Asheville, NC to raise our children. We still love living in Asheville, but we wanted a mountain escape that our family could enjoy from time to time. After years of searching we found the perfect Mountain site to build our dream vacation and eventual retirement home that is in a gated community with paved roads. The best part was that it is less than 30 minutes to Asheville. So we built the most amazing log cabin vacation home in the perfect spot. Greybeard homes are located near Pisgah National Forest. Ladybugs and Kudzu Beetles are prevalent in our area in the fall and winter months, and they will find their way into homes to escape the cooler weather. They are not poisonous and cannot be exterminated.

Restaurants and shops are now open and the area is still as beautiful and special as ever. We are only 5 minutes to downtown Black Mtn, 15 to Asheville. Downtown you will find unique mountain shops, great restaurants, breweries, music venues and more. The cabin has 4 bedrooms, 3 downstairs, a queen bedroom, full bedroom and bunk room. There is a full bath with shower and a laundry room downstairs. The master bedroom is in the loft with a king bed, large soaking tub, bath and shower. The soaking tub has curtains for privacy and cannot be viewed from below. We have an endless hot water tank so you never run out of hot water. The main floor consists of the dining room, table seating for 6. The kitchen is well-stocked with condiments, spices, oils, blender, Mr Coffee, small Keurig, crock pot, nice potware. Plenty of extra paper products and cleaning products. There is a gas grill on the deck. The living room has a TV, with great wifi service and gas firelogs. We have French doors which provides a beautiful view of the mountains. There is a half bath on the main floor. We have plenty of parking with a long drive. We have a winding staircase that goes from downstairs to the loft. There are also stairs outside that provide access to the downstairs area. The neighborhood is very private and quiet. There is a computer desk in the loft. We are dog friendly, for more than 1, please let me know. No cats unfortunately allowed. Black Mountain is very pet friendly and most restaurants and stores are very accommodative. We are open winter months and is a beautiful season with clear views of the mountain range. We will be fully decorated for Christmas with a real NC tree. We have discounted winter rates and I have discounted further December rates to encourage guests to come and enjoy this special Christmas after Hurricane Helene. More and more attractions will be opening as wonderful volunteers and organizations work diligently to restore the area. Fortunately, Black Mtn is recovering quickly and we love being able to share our mountain cabin with our guests and make your visit special.

This home is set up perfectly for a family or 1-2 couples to vacation together. This is the ONLY 2 king en-suite bedroom vacation rental property in a community of much larger 4-7 bedroom homes. Enter into the open great room and kitchen with soaring ceilings and a floor to ceiling stone wood burning fireplace. There are two king bedroom en-suites on each level. The main floor suite has double granite sinks, and a walk in shower and a water closet. There is also a half bath and a laundry closet on the main level. The upper level suite features a loft, king bedroom with sliding doors out to a covered balcony with amazing long range mountain views. The home and kitchen are very well stocked with all your basic supplies needed for your vacation week. We make it easy to come and immediately start enjoying your vacation. The kitchen features everything one would need for a relaxed trouble free vacation. There is both a regular drip coffee maker, a Keurig coffee maker and a hot water kettle. The beds are all made up prior to your arrival and we provide clean towels and linens.

We take cleaning our home very seriously and pride ourselves on providing one of the cleanest vacation homes you have ever stayed in. We have instructed our crew on the latest recommendations such as using the highest heat setting for washing linens and towels, airing out the house during cleanings, disinfecting all surfaces including counters, door knobs, light switches, remotes, railings, etc.

We understand the importance of wanting to travel with your best friend. We allow up to 2 well behaved and housebroken dogs with prior approval and paid pet rent fee of $150. Only well behaved and trained dogs please. No puppies or dogs that scratch or chew. Dogs are not allowed on any furnishings. Please let us know the breed, weight and age of your dog(s) for approval. All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations and flea and tick medications prior to arrival. Dogs may not be left unattended. Sorry, no cats or any other animals allowed.

This sweet room, on the upper level of my home, is just right when seeking a peaceful, quiet place to stay yet needing quick access to Asheville. Located on a dead-end street amid a friendly neighborhood and 5 minute drive to Black Mountain.

The space
This private room has a little kitchenette closet, clothes closet, and small bathroom.

The kitchenette includes a microwave, mini-refrigerator, and coffee/hot water pot.

The bathroom is small and includes a sink, toilet, walk-in shower, towels, and washcloths.

Sleeping accommodations include a twin bed and can accommodate a single person who is less than 6 feet tall.

Important: this room is on the upper level of my home so it is not best suited for night owls. Please note the quiet hours between 10pm and 7am.

Guest access
There is private entry to the guest room through a sliding glass door off the deck of my home. Because this room is located on the main floor of my home, guests are not permitted in any of the other rooms.

Parking is available just beyond the deck. There are 5 steps to climb to access the deck. Instructions for parking and locking of space will be provided upon arrival.

Please feel free to enjoy seating on the deck outside the room!

Our home is ideally located in a quiet neighborhood, walking distance to downtown Black Mountain, Lake Tomahawk and the golf course. The mountains surround this valley, offer great views and event better hiking. We are a 10 min. drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, 15 min. to downtown Asheville and only 50 min. to skiing! Whatever your reason for visiting this part of the state, you are welcome in our home.

The space
Your bedroom has a famously comfortable queen sized bed, a small refrigerator, coffee pot and tea kettle. We provide locally-roasted coffee (Dynamite Roasters) and a variety of teas. Dairy and non-dairy creamer, local honey and raw sugar also in your room along with a couple of bottles of filtered water. We use 100% natural products for cleaning your space and linens and steam clean your room and bathroom with lavender essential oils before you arrive.
Your private living room and patio are down the stairs that are behind the glass door next to your bedroom and immediately to the left.

If you need additional sleeping space (for up to 2 additional people), there is a queen-sized sofa bed in the private living room. There is a $20.00 fee per night if someone (or two) is sleeping in that room. Please let us know in advance of your arrival if you would like us to make that bed up for you and have extra towels available. The additional fee can be paid in cash in person when you arrive.

We clean the apartment ourselves, do not charge a cleaning fee and don't ask you to do any chores before you leave.

Guest access
You have a private living room and covered patio where you can watch TV, sip morning coffee with garden and mountain views. Outside of your private patio there is a fire pit with seating to enjoy the stars or mountain views.

You are welcome to store your bike(s) in your living room and use our hoses to clean off your bikes after tackling the local mountain biking trails or any other equipment.

During your stay
We are friendly and happy to interact with you as much or as little as you like. Same goes for our kittens and dog, although we ask that you let us instruct our dog on proper behavior with guests. She usually barks when meeting someone new. Please let us know if we can give you suggestions on where to go, what to eat and do while you are visiting. We have a guest binder in your room full of information about use of our home, Black Mountain, Asheville and the surrounding area. You'll also find several of our personal hiking, mountain biking and brewery books in your room for you to check out.

The space
This is a light and bright traditionally decorated room situated on the second floor of our home. It looks out on a nice view of a mountain ridgeline. Your private bath is a full one with tub and shower.
The queen-sized bed has a comfortable mattress. Fresh towels will be provided daily, if you wish. You have a large-screen TV with satellite service--lotsa channels. Wifi service is provided.
Reasonably priced therapeutic massage is offered on the premises by Carol.
We are a couple, both in our seventies, both in good health. We walk daily and take advantage of classes and a pool at our YMCA, located about a mile from our home. Both of us volunteer in the community. It’s our habit to quietly read late night, so the whole house usually becomes quiet early.
We won't provide breakfast, but you may stash stuff in our second fridge and use our washer and dryer if you wish. You'll enjoy the shops on nearby Cherry Street and beyond. Arts and crafts are bountiful here in Black Mountain and throughout the mountains.
We are a half-mile from an I-40 on-ramp. I-40 gives you a quick ride westward into Asheville. Traffic inside Black Mountain is usually pretty easy to navigate and most of the sights of the town are within walking-distance of our house.
Two blocks away, there's a farm-to-table restaurant, very quaint and quaintly named Louise's Kitchen for the owner's grandma. They serve dynamite coffee that's endlessly poured for you once you've purchased the first cup. A full-service health food store is across the street from Louise’s Kitchen.
Black Mountain is a gem of a town. We chose it 32 years ago and love calling it our home. Come see what it's like. It's likely you'll like it, too.

We let each set of guests set the level of our interaction. Some show they just want to be left alone upstairs. Others come through the downstairs and chat. Others sit down and get to know us while we get to know them.

We will charge a $25 pet fee depending on size, amount of shedding, etc. May allow 2 small dogs, but need to check with me first. No more than 1 if medium sized or large dog. Only ask that they be freshly groomed and, of course, flea treated. If small, nonshedding dog, let me know and I will waive the fee. No charge for service dogs. I do ask that they not get on the bed if possible. I have 2 friendly dogs separated from your space by a fence, but if they would like to play that is fine. They will have a nice yard for play surrounded by a fence.
