There is a Ring video doorbell located at the front door and a Ring video motion light at the rear of the home. These will NEVER be active during your stay. They are only active when the cottage does not have a guest booked. There are absolutely NO cameras in the house. Your complete privacy is among our top priorities.

We are exceptionally proud to provide a quaint, clean, and comfortable cottage that we would want to stay in ourselves!! Spend some quality time in our sweet little town, Black Mountain, North Carolina - The 'Little Town That Rocks". From our quiet historic neighborhood, it is only a quick, three to five minute walk to our "main" street, State Street, in downtown Black Mountain. Come and explore the cute shops, nice restaurants, and fun bars....notice the rocking chairs along the way, in our cozy town that is called "The Front Porch of Western North Carolina."

Hattie's is located behind our home, though you have absolute and complete privacy and sole use of the entire beautiful backyard. Most times, you will not even know if we are home. The driveway and path to the cottage is gravel. For those with mobility issues, this may not be the place for you because of the gravel drive/pathway.

This cottage has one bedroom and bathroom with full size tub/shower separate from the main living area of combination living room and kitchen. A full kitchen -- fully equipped with complete sets of dishes, glasses, utensils, and appliances including dishwasher, full range/oven, full size refrigerator, and microwave. You will find most everything you need for cooking; pots/pans, cooking utensils, serving dishes, storage containers, baking sheets...this kitchen is very well supplied for cooking meals. Gas "wood stove" fireplace that is perfect for that cool fall or winter evening, hardwood flooring with rugs, lovely covered porch off the bedroom overlooking "secret garden" backyard oasis with chairs and table and bamboo blinds for even more privacy if desired.

Enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail from the covered deck overlooking our backyard with a pond feature and small waterfall....if you decide to sit by the pond, become completely relaxed as you watch the gold fish swim around the beautiful water plants. The sound of many species of birds and the gentle breeze blowing through the trees will calm you and one can't believe we are so close to town. Listen to the wind chimes and watch hummingbirds buzzing around, birds bathing in the upper pond, and squirrels, rabbits, and chipmunks running around the grounds. In the evening, you may hear our owl and frog that are living in our backyard this year. We know you will enjoy our "little bit of heaven" at Hattie's Hideaway. We have had two couples become engaged while they were staying at Hattie's Hideaway; the proposal was presented in the sweet and wonderful backyard while the couple was enjoying time together there....we are honored they chose Hattie's for that special moment in their lives!

On a cool evening, enjoy another amenity in the backyard; sit by a fire in the outside fireplace (no smoke wafting in your face like a fire pit!) provided with wood and even set up for your evening each day! You can roast marshmallows/hot dogs with provided skewers in the cottage. A lovely outdoor patio for your use with a table and umbrella, chairs, rocking chairs under cover from rain, gas grill, and a hammock. Have your lunch or dinner in the lovely backyard on the patio.

All quality linens provided. ** We replace our higher end linens every two years** Keurig coffee maker (new 2021); your first morning's K-cups and a nice selection of tea bags are provided along with milk/sugar. Free WiFi, 39 inch flat screen television, full-sized kitchen appliances (refrigerator with ice maker) and washer/dryer (with all needed laundry supplies) in the cottage basement. Any and all starter supplies provided (trash bags, dishwashing liquid as well as dishwasher detergent, plastic wrap/aluminum foil/storage bags, picnic basket and supplies like paper plates/disposable cups/plastic flatware, basic spices/oils for cooking/grilling, paper towels, toilet paper, facial tissues, bath soap, basic small sized toiletries for one day in case you forgot to pack something, bug repellent spray, sunscreen....all this and we provide many other amenities for your use such as hiking sticks, backpack with first aid kit, beach towels, bathrobes, umbrellas, blanket for picnics, camp chairs, travel coffee mugs and water bottles for you to take to concerts, hikes or a day trip to Biltmore Estate, Blue Ridge Parkway, or NC Arboretum.

In January 2020, we completed some updates to refresh the cottage including interior painting, then completed exterior painting (2021) and this year, 2022, we have replaced living room furniture with two new chairs with ottoman and a new sofa, as well as a new Serta mattress for the queen bed as well as new linens (we replace all sheets/towels every two years) new pots and pans, etc. We try to always be mindful of our guests' comfort and keep a close eye on the quality and condition of the furniture and supplies in the cottage. We want to always be certain that we ourselves would love to stay at Hattie's Hideaway and be comfortable spending time there!!

I clean Hattie's Hideaway myself and I follow all recommended safety guidelines in cleaning the cottage using Lysol and Clorox products and wiping down all "touch" spaces along with thorough comprehensive cleaning; in addition, I shampoo the rug and clean the upholstered furniture every month, or more often, if there has been a spill. We do not allow animals so as to maintain an allergy free zone as best we can, additionally, we ask our guests not to use strong fragrances or cooking spices inside the cottage.

Johnson Carriage House is a second floor unit located right in Black Mountain with all of the amenities of home. Enjoy two full bedrooms and two full baths, your own single car garage, large living space and large kitchen just four blocks from the center of town and charming Cherry St. This new construction house has vaulted ceilings with antique wood beams and lots of natural light that gives this space a comfortable, clean and bright feel.
The master bedroom has a king sized bed and flat screened tv with private access to the rear screened porch. The master bath has tile shower and double vanity. The second bedroom has two twin beds and a flat screened tv with access to the front porch. The second bathroom has a full shower/bath and single vanity with a stack-able washer and dryer.
Kitchens have become a central part of our homes, and the Johnson Carriage House is no exception, with granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and stocked with all the amenities you will need for a comfortable stay. This space flows out to the rear screened in porch with outdoor dining area and built in grilling station.
Back inside, the dining area seats 4-8 at the dining room table plus seating for 4 at the counter top bar. There are so many fine touches-locally crafted walnut front door, custom walnut countertops, stained glass window, the list goes on and on.

This 1200 sq ft custom high-end home is 2 bedroom, 2 full bathroom.

Each bedroom has a king bed with luxurious linens and towels, a 43 inch HD Roku TV, and an attached full bathroom. The living room has a pullout couch with queen mattress and a 65 inch HD Roku TV. (Please note we do not have cable, but you can log on to your streaming channels such as Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, etc).

And if you love to cook (we sure do!), we have a well stocked kitchen with all of the cooking items you might need! We have a crockpot, blender, food processor, toaster, Cuisinart drip coffee maker, electric tea kettle, pottery barn dishes and glasses.

Kick back and enjoy our relaxing covered front porch. It has 2 rocking chairs and a seating area with a sofa and 2 comfy chairs. Perfect place to enjoy that glass of wine or a morning cup of coffee! The backyard is fully fenced in with a privacy fence- perfect for kids and pups! Enjoy outdoor dining on the back flagstone patio with a gas grill and an outdoor dining table, seating 6. Or enjoy s'mores under the stars with a 30 inch fire pit with surrounding 4 adirondack chairs. All decor is high end and the house is meticulously decorated with quality furnishings. Please note that the Vermont casting stove indoors is not for use for guests.

The house is 1.1 miles from downtown Black Mountain and an 18 minute drive to downtown Asheville. Close to hiking and waterfalls, the Blitmore Mansion, the Blue Ridge Parkway and so much more in the North Carolina mountains!

You will get sent a personalized code for our wifi lock before check in. We have two separate parking pads- one at front that has space for 2 cars and one in back for 1 car, next to the back yard. Please note we have a shared drive, so please only park in the parking pads and do not block the driveway.

We do have ring cameras facing the front and back porches- just to keep an eye on the property while we are away!

We highly encourage our guests to purchase travel insurance as a hedge against unseen circumstances that may affect travel plans. If you choose to cancel your reservation, the cancellation policy per the rental agreement will apply. No refunds for inclement weather.

Other things to note
1. Quiet hours after 9pm. We have the LOVELIEST neighbors, some with children and work from home, so please be respectful and keep outdoor noise to conversational level after 9pm. If you are in to late night partying, this is not the place for you!

2. On a case-by-case basis, we might consider renting to guests with well-behaved, non shedding dogs for a pet fee. Please reach out to use PRIOR to booking to make sure our place is a good fit for your fur baby!

- "Great little house smack between downtown Black Mountain and Montreat. Easy stay and good communication with rental management company. Well stocked kitchen and comfortable, thoughtful house with a nice little front porch. The back room add on to the house was a nice space, but an unusual room. There were no blinds or window treatments, so you and neighbors could mutually see each other at night and sun reflected on TV during the day. The walls are unfinished wood, so you may get a splinter touching it or it could tear your clothes if you bump into it. If you have a toddler, I couldn’t recommend this house bc of those walls."

Welcome to Red Fox Cottage, our newly renovated, fox-themed, cozy cottage in the heart of downtown Black Mountain, NC. Just a 15 min walk to Lake Tomahawk Park & 5 min drive to the town center with a wide array of shops, restaurants, & breweries. Come enjoy this 2 bedroom, 2 bath home with an awesome dog-friendly backyard area that includes a fire table & hot tub.

This newly remodeled, one-story 1920's cottage has an open concept design to maximize the living space for up to 4 guests. With 2 bedrooms and 2 ensuite bathrooms, it's 800 sq ft is the perfect compact size for 1-2 couples or 1 couple with kids or dogs(aka fluffy children).

We are dog-friendly - yay! We do have a maximum of two well-behaved dogs per stay and there is a $150 pet fee if you want to bring any of your fur-babies. We do ask that dogs stay off the furniture and that you pick up after them in the yard. Our fenced in yard is great for pups to run around and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Don't worry, we provide poo bags, food bowls, towels for muddy paws, and even a dog blanket and treats. :)

Lots of places in Black Mountain are dog-friendly so taking your pups around town can be super fun! Please do be aware that bears roam around frequently in our area so leaving your dog unattended in the backyard is a beary bad idea... sorry, I had to.

The cottage is furnished with super comfy Queen sized beds. One bedroom has a memory foam mattress that is perfect for those who prefer a firm mattress, and the other bedroom has a hybrid mattress that is slightly softer.

In the swoon-worthy kitchen, you'll find all the silverware, pots, pans and plates you'll need to pretend like you’re going to cook yourself dinner from scratch! ;)(But really, there is no need because the restaurants in our town are top-notch). The butcher block countertops overhang the new gray cabinets with silver hardware which nicely pairs with the tile backsplash. There is also a small vintage dining table with four chairs that is a fun nod to the fact that the home is quite vintage itself (103 years old to be exact!).

The stackable washer and dryer can be found behind the middle sliding barn door by the dining table, and laundry detergent is also provided.

The living room is furnished with a nice big flat-screen tv and super comfy leather couch where you'll be able to Netflix and chill with friends. There is a small marble coffee table, two brown leather chairs, and a built in gas-log fireplace that gives you all the cozy cottage vibes you could want. Also in the shelves under the tv and behind the couch you'll find a nice stack of playing cards and games in case you want to have a game night and order in.

The two bathrooms are similar in size, each with marble tile-look laminate flooring and spacious showers. We provide hairdryers, cotton swabs and cotton balls as well as one bath towel and wash cloth per guest.

Don't forget to head out to the fenced in backyard because it is seriously a ~vibe~ in itself. The brand new patio furniture, propane fire table, oscillating fan and sparkly bistro lights are ideal for a relaxed evening at home. All you need is a bottle of Biltmore wine and then you could call it heaven. We also just added a brand new 5 person HOT TUB - woot woot! Enjoy the soothing jetted bubbles under the bistro lights for the ultimate relaxing mountain getaway.

In terms of amenities, we've got you covered too! You'll have access to small, yet important, things like: An iron, ironing board, towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, cotton balls, coffee, sugar, tea, dog poo bags, and more.

Our little mountain cottage is just so great that you'll probably want to stay forever. :) We've had guests ask. Just kidding. (But seriously.)

In an effort to maintain a secure premises, the cottage is equipped with an exterior security camera and a doorbell with a camera. The cameras are ONLY on the exterior, and there are no cameras on the inside.

- "We enjoyed our stay at this small house with personality. Eclectic decor, a great gas fireplace, private wooded setting are all great. The house was supplied with adequate but not a huge amount of cooking dishes, and plenty of linens, soaps/ dish soap, paper products etc. Plus some nice extras like a bottle of wine! A lot of the soap products are fragranced so if you have fragrance alllergies, I’d bring your own products. Black mountain is a small town with several good restaurants, some walking / hiking trails/ parks nearby, and some cute artsy shops. More outdoor adventures and towns are nearby as well. Overall it was a peaceful and relaxing private stay in an adorable town."

Clear Branch Cottage is 750 sq. feet with 180 sq. feet of covered porch totally surrounded by forest, which can be enjoyed sitting on the porch or inside with large picture windows and views throughout. It has one bedroom with a queen bed, and a trundle bed with 2 single mattresses. A comfortable living room with mid century decor adjoins the well equipped kitchen. The porch has a dining table with additional seating. The private backyard has a gas grill, plenty of seating and a fire ring.

The space
We are 8 miles from the nearest grocery store. We recommend that you stop in town first to get supplies. Behind the cottage is a small backyard with a fire ring for another inviting option. We have a few short trails for you to enjoy: the Creek Trail, the Rhododendron Trail and the Laurel Loop Trail. We also recommend the Light Center just a few minutes away for additional close by hiking. There is a meadow with a fire pit, picnic table, lawn chairs and room to play outdoor games; we can provide ladder golf and a frisbee golf stand upon request. The cottage is set back about 250 feet from highway 9 with plenty of forest, the trees and bushes in between ensure your privacy. On the weekends you will hear motorcyclists, usually in the afternoon, but it has been fairly quiet since Hurricane Helene and the fact that Hwy 9 to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure is at times very rough and often is single lane.

Guest access
On very rare occasions, we may access the garage below the cottage to get the lawn mower or other tools, and only between noon and 3pm, we try to notify you ahead of time to respect your privacy. The garage has it's own separate entrance.

We are about 8 miles from the nearest grocery store in Black Mountain. Within walking distance is the Light Center with 160 acres and a delightful trail system . A favorite of many guests with younger children, is the river trail at the Light Center, which has several calm and shallow spots to play in.

Other things to note
We do not have cable TV or a smart TV as the internet does not supply enough data to stream on the TV or support video conferencing. The internet is good for emails, basic searches, etc. and at times will require patience as the wifi searches for the tower and better reception. We do have a collection of over 150 DVDs with an additional 20 DVDs for young children.

Phone service for many carriers (such as ATT, etc) will not work in our area. The towers in our area are owned by Verizon and therefore Verizon and other carriers that use the Verizon network should be fine. Although weather and demand can impact that service too. To obtain service for ATT, etc. you may need to drive 4 miles to the top of the Continental Divide as you head toward Black Mountain.

When more than 2 people are staying at the cottage there is an additional fee of 15.00 per person per night. Children 6 years of age and younger are free.

Hwy 9 is still under construction since Helene so expect 5-10 additional minutes when driving into Black Mountain and beyond.

You will enjoy a 6 minute walk to Lake Tomahawk Park, a 12 minute walk to Black Mountain Golf Club, and a 15 minute walk to downtown.

Lake Tomahawk Park includes a walking path, a picnic area with barbecue grills, tennis courts, playgrounds, and a pool, all open to the public.

The entire house is yours to enjoy when you book Rhododendron Cottage. You will have complete privacy and can come and go as you please.

Located in a quiet mountain neighborhood, 1 mile from Lake Tomahawk (walking trail), 2 miles to Montreat College (hiking), and 2 miles to downtown and I-40, this charming cabin is convenient to town yet far enough out to get that mountain feel. Rocking chairs on the deck are perfect for morning coffee, a midday snooze, or late afternoon conversation - all under a canopy of mature hardwoods. The cabin has a wood burning stove as well as baseboard heat to keep you toasty. And very kid friendly!

The space
Enjoy the large living room with vaulted ceilings, sky lights and a working wood stove. The kitchen is fully equipped including a refrigerator, stove and oven, all full size, plus a microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Small but functional dining room has access to the wrap around deck. 2nd bedroom has a futon which opens to a double size bed. Full tub and shower. Washer and dryer are included for your convenience. Towels and bedding are provided. There is also a playhouse for the kids within sight of the front porch. There are two window unit AC's for those rare hot days, however the hardwood tree canopy keeps the cabin shaded all day, and the ceiling fans in every room keep the indoors very comfortable even in the summer months.

The home is located in a residential neighborhood (not in the woods) and there are homes above the cottage that are visible in the winter months when the foliage is off the trees.

Sidewalks lead to downtown shopping, restaurants, library, coffee shops, bakery, ice cream and candy shops, water park, swimming pool and Lake Tomahawk with its walking trail, tennis courts and picnic pavilion. Our cottage is simply the ideal location for the family or couple's weekend get away, vacation, or extended stay. Six adults can stay quite comfortably, and we suggest eight as a comfortable maximum.

Our home offers a different atmosphere than the typical motel room (seven rooms, three eating areas, porches and spacious yard!) One family—children, parents and grandparents—enjoyed hours of croquet in the back yard—the highlight of their family reunion!!

The space
The Mountain Laurel is a two story, 4 bedroom / 2 bathroom cottage on a quiet neighborhood street only a half a mile from town. The home has two bedrooms with queen beds and two bedrooms with full beds. There is a full bathroom on each floor, including one with a large soaking tub and rainfall shower heads. The cozy living room has a working wood fired stove, a full dining room, a well-appointed kitchen, and a sunroom that overlooks a large backyard.

The Mountain Laurel is a vintage cottage that was built in the 1930s. We’ve preserved many of the original features: the doors and floors creak, the windows occasionally stick, and the backyard still has remnants of an old garage that has been transformed into one of the most magical bits of the property. The historic character of this house is what makes it special and we wouldn’t want to change a thing.

While the charm remains, The Mountain Laurel does have some modern amenities including wifi, air conditioning (via 3 Mini Splits), a washer/dryer, and a Smart TV.

Do not leave any food in your car, on the porch, or outside the house unless in the bear-proof trash bin. Make sure car doors are locked at all times. NEVER APPROACH OR FEED THE BEARS.

Guest access
We have a keyless entry for your convenience. Upon booking you will receive a key code that will be activated at time of checkin and enables you to lock and unlock the door as needed throughout your stay. It will be deactivated at day of checkout.

We are a pet friendly location. Just let us know if you’re bringing any furry friends. We charge a $100 fee. This is for the duration of your stay for each pet.
