The Location: Adirondack Cottage is located within the Highlands, NC town limits near Harris Lake and behind Mountain Fresh Grocery. This is an area where locals come to walk/jog because it's a on a rare flat loop that is a quick 1/2 mile jaunt to Main Street, where all the shops and restaurants are located.

The Property: Upon arrival at the property, guests are greeted by a beautiful grove of Hemlock trees. There is a small parking area that allows for 2 cars and to the left, guests will climb roughly 10 stairs to enter the cottage. The Cabin: A former artist's studio, the cottage will channel your inner creativity. The Layout: From the front porch, guests enter into a big, open L-shaped space with 20 foot ceilings. The kitchen is straight ahead with a small bistro table and the living area to the right. You are invited to come and stay at our little cozy cottage in the mountains. Make an escape from the chaos and travel the long winding well maintained driveway up the mountain surrounded by private property and US Forest land. Since our driveway is gravel and steep, we recommend that you drive a 4X4 or a vehicle with good traction. No low to the ground vehicles or motorcycles!! You will see that it was worth the drive upon arrival at your secluded and peaceful retreat where wonderful memories are waiting to be made!!

Walk up on the porch that wraps around three sides of the cottage. Grab a cup of coffee, sit on the porch awhile, and enjoy the views of Rabun Bald and Alex Mountain. Chances are you will hear the gobble of a turkey, the hoot of an owl, or the sweet call of a dove. Enter Mountaintop Memories Cottage with a keyless entry. This cottage offers 2 BR, 1 BA, a full kitchen, dining and living area, and laundry room with washer and dryer. The living area is open to the dining and kitchen with plenty of seating for lounging, eating, or playing a game. We have a good variety of books, games, and puzzles to enjoy!! Watch a movie or your favorite show on the 50" Roku TV that is visible from the entire living area. A bonus for our mountain location is that we offer Starlink Wi-fi to keep you connected with your devices. The kitchen is stocked with all appliances as well as a k-cup Keurig coffee pot, tea kettle, waffle maker, air fryer, cookware, serving dishes, cooking and eating utensils, and items for the outdoor gas grill located on the side of the cottage under the covered porch. We have included a beverage bar with a variety of coffee k-cups, flavor syrups and creamers, various teas, honey/sweeteners, and cold beverages in the refrigerator. Also provided are olive oil, salt, pepper, and various spices that you might forget to bring. Dish washer tablets, dish soap, hand soap, all-purpose cleaner, aluminum foil, clear wrap, and ziplock bags are provided for your convenience. Down the hallway, the main bedroom is located with a queen bed and a Roku TV. Located directly across the hall from the main bedroom is the second bedroom that includes a twin bed. Unfortunately, the cottage only comfortably sleeps 3 people. If you are traveling with additional children, there is room for a queen air mattress in the living room. Firewood will be provided for you under the covered shed in the dry. All you need is your S'more ingredients!! We’re a five minute walk through small neighborhood roads from the lake, a five minute walk to the mill creek greenway, a trail through the woods that passes the Bascom art center and leads to downtown. We’re a three minute drive to all of the stores and restaurants in downtown Highlands. Our home has an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings and a wood burning fireplace. The house is comfortably furnished and thoughtfully decorated, and includes our own art work; architectural drawings, paintings, and hand-made porcelain dinnerware. The house comfortably sleeps 5 and offers all the expected comforts like cable TV, wifi and a well-appointed kitchen. Sit on a rocking chair on the front porch and listen to the creek that passes through the property, or hang out down by the outdoor stone fireplace located next to a small waterfall. - "Our family was in Highlands for a wedding at Old Edward’s Farm and we chose the 3 Bears for our stay. I booked with Hope and she was immediately responsive. This cottage is beautifully done with ceramics made by the owners. Every morning I got a lot of joy out of choosing which creature I was going to drink coffee with. I loved the Rabbit cup the best! Comfy beds with soft high end thread count sheets. Well appointed all the way around. Nice body wash products in the main bathroom and other toiletries were a really nice touch. Plenty of laundry supplies if you need them. My favorite place in the house was the sitting room with the day bed on the front of the house. I took a nap in there one afternoon and slept like a dream! There were sweet touches everywhere you looked. One morning we took a walk down to the outdoor fire place while sipping our coffee and took in all the green lush surroundings. Just beautiful! Other mornings we sat in the rockers on the front porch in the wonderful cool mountain air. It was dreamy and we will return. You won’t be disappointed if you choose the 3 Bears cottage! If you’re not used to mountain drives, it is a bit windy to get there but not bad. The location is great - the property itself is beautiful and great to explore, and also located conveniently to other attractions. Once at the property, we were just 5 min to snow tubing (as well as the summer activities like trout fishing and gem mining) and about 15 min drive to Main Street of Highlands, and less than 20 min to several easily accessible waterfalls. On the property, our kids loved the Bocce ball and exploring on the paved paths. The cottage itself is very cozy and clean (it seemed brand new during our stay!) and views over the vineyard are lovely. It does have a kitchenette, not a full kitchen, and some small kitchen appliances so we were able to make do with meals. Rachel is fantastic - so responsive and helpful. This was our first time to the area and we are so happy with this location - it’s a gem!"

STOCKED KITCHEN: We've tried to cover all your cooking needs: Cookware, oil, salt, pepper, and some spices. Other guests may leave food items, and we will continue to add those to the stock. Please leave any items you wish us to add to the inventory by leaving them out or in the refrigerator with a note.

TOILETRIES: You'll find paper products and toilet paper in good supply. Please be prepared to provide your items.

LINENS: You'll find pillows, blankets, and linens.

STARLINK WIFI: You'll want to turn on Wi-Fi calling on your phone as you approach the house, and the Starlink WIFI code will be provided before arrival. Mountain life does include some outages, with storms or without. Be prepared and be patient with country living.

TELEVISION: The TV has a WIFI ROKU firestick. Log in to your favorite streaming services or press ROKU for free stations. Some days, the WIFI is spotty. A DVD player with a variety of movies is also provided for your entertainment.

OUR TOWN: Franklin is home to several Gem Mines, countless waterfalls, easy to challenge hiking, local tubing on the Little Tennessee River, local wineries and breweries, antique shops, farm-to-table restaurants, and world-class Fly-Fishing and Ruby Gem Mining, for which Franklin is known.

LOCAL EVENTS: Downtown Franklin hosts many events. The downtown stores post flyers on their windows of all the current and upcoming things to do and see. Also downtown, stroll the Saturday morning market and weekend music on the square.

Important Notes to review: • our cottage has amazing windows and views. There are not window treatments on the living room windows on purpose • you will need to configure your phone to use WiFi calling while staying at our cottage as there is not reliable cell phone service. Phone calling works like normal on WiFi calling at our cottage • as we are in the mountains, every once in awhile the power does go out. That said, it usually is restored within a few hours. In the Winter months, power could go out longer if there is inclement weather. In 2021, the longest it was out was 24 hours. In 2022, the longest it was out was 8 hours. In 2023, the longest it was out was 18 hours.

The space
Although this unit is located on the ground level, it offers stunning tree-top views courtesy of the lot's sloping landscape and a bank of floor-to-ceiling windows. The absence of stairs makes this unit accessible for those with mobility concerns.

The cottage offers a spacious bathroom, comfy king-sized bed and a large, equipped kitchen. A front porch and small balcony deck offer a chance to breathe in the clean mountain air.

There is a shared firepit area in the back of the property; however, guests should exercise caution when descending to the firepit. The stone stairs are uneven, irregular and may be slippery from moss. The terrain is natural and rugged. Please enjoy at your own risk.

This cottage provides a large open concept living room, kitchen, dining room with a large wood burning fireplace. The living room connects to a large deck that provides views of the small private lake that can be accessed from our property.

This cottage has a master bedroom with a king sized bed and an en suite bathroom. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed and access to a bathroom.
The third bedroom, which is accessed by passing through the second bedroom, has two twin beds and a desk. (See drawing of floor plan in photos).

Guest have full access to the entire home (minus one private supply closet).
The large, winding dock provides plenty of access to the lake front. Enjoy relaxing on the dock and taking in the view, or get out on the water on the paddle board, canoe, kayak, or small inflatable raft. Guest also have access to a walking path that gives access to the grass covered dam. The grassy meadow on the dam is a great place to picnic, walk your dog, or take in a wide range view of the lake. This walking path and the dam is a space that is shared among the residents of blue ridge lake (this property and 3 others).
The cottage is located on 2.5 acres of land which contains dense forests, lakeshore and a small stream.

Other things to note
Comfort:
This cottage was build in the 1960s and it has a lot of rustic charm. This home is cooling by multiple portable AC units and ceiling fans. This combination keeps this home comfortable on the hottest days of the summer🌬❄️. So if you are used to central AC and keeping the home around 72 degrees you will be comfortable. For winter months, the home has central heating as well as access to space heaters in each bedroom. A wood burning fireplace is available in the living room for extra warmth and ambiance.🔥🪵🔥Check in with me at the time of your stay to see if firewood is available (there is often extra firewood for guests). Also know that firewood can be purchased at local hardware stores grocery stores and convenience stores.

Phones:
Cell phone service can be limited in this remote location depending on your provider. However, if you enable WiFi calling on your smartphone, you should be able to call and text from this location without any problems. A land line phone is also available for guests to use just in case.

The Lake:
The cottage is located on a small private lake named Blue Ridge Lake (it is not on the Lake Toxaway itself, don’t be confused because the address states it is in the community of “Lake Toxaway, NC.”)
This lake is spring-fed by a few neighboring mountain springs. While the lake has fish living in it, it is not always stocked for fishing. The water is not fast moving enough for mountain trout to breed, but my neighbor sometimes stocks the lake with trout. Other fish include carp, crappie, blue gill, and possibly some small bass. Guest are welcome to fish (catch and release).

Swimming: This spring-fed lake stays cool all summer for those who want to swim, and the water in the central sections of the lake is good to swim in.
If you're interested in swimming, message me for instructions for a certain section of my shoreline that I firmed up with rocks so that it is good for entering the water (the shoreline is soft and murky in most places which is the downside of having huge beautiful trees that drop leaves near the shore). Also, If you are comfortable on a paddle board, you can also paddle out to the deep central sections of the lake so you can swim off the paddle board. Know that the water around the dock is not deep enough for swimming or diving, but the dock is great for launching the canoe, kayak, and paddle board. It is a very tranquil and beautiful little lake for boating and paddle boarding.

Noise:
This vacation home is in a remote location, and is often very quite which allows guest to hear the sounds of nature. There is a farm in this neighborhood so guest should expect to hear some distant noises from their horses, tractors, chickens, and dogs that often stay outside. There are occasional noises from our neighbors talking and working on their lawns/gardens.

Brookside cottage is newly renovated and surrounded by forest in the mountains of western North Carolina. A mountain stream descends in front of the cottage providing an restful water feature.
Located in Transylvania county between Brevard and Cashiers, the area is named the “Land of Waterfalls”.

Supplies (food, drink, etc.) are available 2 miles from cottage.

Caution to low riding cars/sports cars: the last half mile to this cottage is a gravel road and must ford a small stream.

*** Please note the short gravel road between the cabin and Silver Run rd is fairly rocky. I will send you directions to make access easier. Just don’t drive a sports car when you come and you will be just fine, we have easily accessed the cabin with a BMW sedan, and others have had no issue with a Prius/ ford focus.

Tip: There are two approaches to the property; Spur Rd is a loop. I recommend passing the the first street sign for Spur Rd on the left (DO NOT TURN IN HERE) and instead take the second left for Spur Rd where you will see the mailboxes and a sign for Spotted Bear. This is a much easier way onto the property. Drive up the road about 100 feet you will see the cottage and the gravel driveway to the right. The driveway can accommodate two cars. To leave, you can drive forward and bear left down the other side of Spur Rd which is fine for exiting the area.

We loved staying in this beautiful cottage! We were able to check in early & check out late which was great! We loved taking the short stroll behind the house to the waterfall. We were just a short drive into Cashiers and Highlands. We loved making a fire after dinner in the outdoor fireplace each night. The cottage was cozy and decorated beautifully. Check in was easy and the home was exactly as pictured. The host was extremely responsive to some minor issues at check in and handled them immediately. We loved the path behind the home down to the waterfall and enjoyed dining outside on the deck each evening. The kitchen had everything needed for preparing meals and plentiful supplies for washing dishes and running the dishwasher.

The largest of the 3 apartment units in our Sunrise Cottage. Recently updated, the original farmhouse on the property serves as a unique mountaintop retreat. This open-plan, 2-story unit has its own entrance and sleeps up to 6 people, w/ a queen bed and 2 sets of bunks. This unit offers a kitchen, private bathroom, dining room table, and fireplace. A charming spiral staircase leads up to the loft, where large picture windows let you soak in the sunrise from the comfort of your bed.

The space
This ample ground floor apartment-style room includes a full kitchen, en suite bath with tub and shower, queen bed, two sets of bunk beds, gas fireplace, couch, dining room table, window unit AC. The two bunk beds are on the ground floor, while the queen bed is located in the loft upstairs.

While we do provide limited wireless internet access (fine for emails, but our remote location in the mountains can make streaming difficult), our core belief is that the best experiences happen when friends and loved ones share experiences outside. We’re nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains with 76 acres of forest and fields, right on the border of Pisgah National Forest. Your stay includes access to our private hiking trails and fire pits, and is within driving distance of Gorges State Park, Dupont State Park, and of course Pisgah. A perfect basecamp for fishing trips, mountain bike expeditions, or hiking adventures.

Staying with us also gives you quick access to the one-of-a-kind activities we have available on-site, like llama hikes, hands-on blacksmithing workshops, archery and tomahawk throwing, creek walks, and so much more.

As our guest, you will have full access to the property, including our private hiking trails, featuring 76 acres of forest and fields, tranquil streams, natural stone outcrops, and a stunning variety of local flora and fauna. You’re welcome to build a crackling campfire in one of our several firepits, relax in our hammocks, or fish in our small pond (catch and release).

Earthshine Lodge also offers a variety of unique programming, such as guided llama hikes, blacksmithing workshops, archery and tomahawk experiences, nature walks, and more.

If you’re craving more outdoor adventure, we're within close driving distance to DuPont Forest, Gorges State Park, Pisgah National Forest and the Nantahala National Forest. We’re more than happy to recommend our favorite waterfall hikes, climbing or fishing guides, places to paddle, or the best local breweries nearby.

Other things to note
While the Sunrise Cottage is pet friendly, we do ask that dogs be leashed while hiking and walking around the property. We love animals, and hope to avoid stressing local wildlife or our resident llamas!

You are welcome to visit our llama ladies down at the barn for a quick selfie, but please refrain from entering their enclosure or opening any gates, and please don’t feed them (lots of the local plants can cause llamas serious harm)!

We have a unique property with 2 cottages for rent, the little cottage has a king sized bed on lower level with it's own 1/2 bath and a pull out sleeper sofa in the living room with a full sized bathroom. The bigger cottage has a king sized bed in the master bedroom and 2 twins in guest bedroom with one full bathroom.
Price listed is for the bigger cottage. To add the little cottage, it is an additional $200/night,125 cleaning fee +taxes.Request in comments if you'd like to add the cottage.

The space
We will never rent the two cottages to people who are not in the same party. We recently completed renovating the smaller cottage and we are always updating the cottages to keep them fresh and new.

The price listed is for the bigger cottage. If you chose to add the little cottage to your stay it is an additional $200/night + 125.00 cleaning fee,+ taxes. Please request in you 're comments if you'd like to add the additional cottage.

The Creekside Cottages are located in the quiet wooded neighborhood of Lancewood just .4 miles from the center of town and within walking distance to local restaurants , a local yoga studio. A little longer stroll will take you to Bucks Coffee House or the "Village Green" where many summer activities are scheduled. The grocery store is a 5 minute drive from the Cottage where you can find a Starbucks.

The sound of the rushing water of the creek and waterfall that runs along the property will ease your mind and announce that you've arrived at our creekside mountain retreat. We have a rock patio down at the creeks edge where the kids can play or you can relax and dip your feet in the water. There is also a raised firepit, firewood included, where you can roast marshmallows with the kids or where the adults can relax with a glass of wine and good conversation.

Both cottages feature: hardwood floors with area rugs, wood ceilings and whitewashed wood walls, central air and heating for year-round comfort. The fully stocked kitchens have all stainless-steel appliances, well-stocked spice racks, sharp knives, dishwasher safe pots and pans as well as hand mixers and blenders. There are three ways to make your coffee; Keurig, traditional coffee maker or a French press. The kitchens are open to the dining room and living room areas. The larger cabin can seat 6-8 people, the smaller seats 4 around the dining table. The living rooms have large screen smart TVs, extra center speakers, TV's are on Dish Network and they are Smart TV's so you don't miss your favorite shows. . Both cottages also have wireless routers for your internet needs. The master bedrooms feature king-size beds, and all bedrooms come with plush mattresses, new bed linens and blankets coverings

The main cottage features: two of the exterior living room walls are flanked with full glass French doors to let in plenty of sunlight and the fresh mountain air. The living room has a gas fireplace that you can turn on using a convenient on/off switch on the wall, a comfortable leather couch and a smooth electric recliner chair make this living room the perfect spot for a cozy night inside watching a good movie. The second bedroom has two twin size beds. There is a washer/dryer and ironing board in the hall closet. The bathroom has a double sink vanity and a tub/shower, all with easy access one floor level living.

The porches are on three sides of the cottage, one of which faces the waterfall and is screened in. It has all the conveniences for festivities or solitude, with a gas grill, a 60" flat screen TV, a large custom-made wooden dining table, outdoor furniture, and seasonal visits from hummingbirds.

The 2nd cottage features: a full sleeper sofa in the living room, an accent chair, small full sized bath and downstairs you have the master bedroom with it's own 1/2 bath en-suite. There is also the option of a blow-up queen mattress, if needed for additional guests. The smaller cottage also has a screened in porch that overlooks the back yard and the creek.

With several breathtaking waterfalls and mountain hiking trails as well as clean freshwater lakes you can enjoy fly-fishing, boating, skiing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and photography all in one convenient area.

You can satisfy your hunger at any number of our great local restaurants or shop at the local Ingles grocery store complete with a Starbucks and fix your own food at the cottages. Shop at our small upscale boutiques and take advantage of the local festivities all within minutes of your central location.

We are now offering upon request guest passes to access the Sapphire Valley Recreation Center in nearby Sapphire N.C. where you can play on the 9-hole golf course, or the 9-hole soccer golf, swim in the indoor and/or outdoor pool, sweat in a sauna or soak in a hot tub, play pool, table tennis, or putt-putt. If you think you might be interested we will need to know the first and last name of all guests who would like to go to the Center and we can get a three day pass for your visit. Any child under age 14 does not require a pass if accompanied by someone with a pass. The Center is open daily, hours may vary so call to confirm.

Jackson County hosts dozens of waterfalls including Whitewater Falls, located just 11 miles away. With a 411 foot plunge, Whitewater Falls is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies. Below it, the Lower Whitewater Falls drops another 400 feet into South Carolina.

Cashiers is surrounded by quality fishing and hiking with post-card mountaintop views and cliffs. You can hike or swim in Silver Falls or visit the Sawyer Family Tree Farm.

The Lancewood Neighborhood Community in Cashiers, North Carolina, is located below Sheep Cliff Mountain along the headwaters of the Horsepasture River. Lancewood was once part of an Old Indian Trail and a gold mine tract. In 1929, Talmadge Seldon Lance (note the T.S. Lance marker located at the entrance of our neighborhood), his wife Maude Pinner Lance, their teenage children, and friends of theirs moved here from Asheville. In 1932 they bought a saw and started a lumber yard. Their original homestead was located on what is now the entrance to the Lancewood Neighborhood.
T.S. and Maude Lance were successful with their lumber business and eventually started building half-round log cabins for the buyers of their lots in the subdivision they named Lancewood. They built roads and dams for two lakes and surveyed about 65 lots, some with small acreages and some with larger acreages, all on the former gold mine. Their sales of lots and tracts continued into the forties and fifties, offering dream second homes in Cashiers with the added perk of being close to town.

-There is no landline.We use Verizon and the wifi signal is good. Other carriers work well.
-There is a 125.00 pet fee. Pets need to be approved ahead of time and there are no more than (2) 50lb. dogs maximum allowed for the larger cottage and (1) dog for the smaller cottage. Please advise if you are bringing your furry friends.

-For your protection and security of the property, we have two outside cameras. One facing the front door and one in the back monitoring the yard and doors. By booking, you acknowledge and accept the Owners use of the camera and its data for the sole purpose of protecting and securing Cashiers Creekside Cottage.

Outside - Screen sun porch with outdoor lighting and fan, portable gas grill. Outdoor flagstone flower garden & fire pit - the perfect setting to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the hummingbirds.

We are located about 8/10ths of a mile from downtown Highlands, and you can walk to town from the Rhododendron right next to our drive way!

Whether you want to relax by the fireplace, hike to local waterfalls and trails or enjoy Highlands’ upscale restaurants and shopping district, our cottage is a little piece of Heaven!
