This is an area where locals come to walk/jog because it's a on a rare flat loop that is a quick 1/2 mile jaunt to Main Street, where all the shops and restaurants are located.

The Property: High Hemlock is located on a 1/2 acre fenced and wooded lot with a small mossy side yard. Hemlock groves, thick, old growth rhododendrons, and maples add privacy from the street. There are 4 rocking chairs on the front porch that are perfect for bird watching or listening to the peace and quiet or the occasional church bells.

The Cabin: As some of our renters once said, "walking into High Hemlock is like stepping into a Garden & Gun spread." Open the creaky screened door to the subtle smell of firewood and the rhododendrons blooming beside the front porch. The cabin is flooded with natural light. Finishes include all shiplap walls, wide-plank hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings with antique wood beams, local slate tile, and the original 1940's Wolf range in the kitchen.

The Layout: From the front porch, guests enter into a large open space that houses the living room with wood burning fireplace on the right, and the dining room for 6 on the left. Both ensuite bedrooms are off of the main living area (one with a king bed and the other with a queen bed). The galley kitchen is to the far left behind the dining room wall and looks out onto the side mossy yard.

The Area: Highlands, NC is the premier mountain destination in the Southeast. Lined with shopping, dining, museums and galleries, the bustling mountain village centering around Main Street is straight from a Norman Rockwell painting. Previously a summer/fall hotspot, it's quickly becoming a year-round destination. At 4,118 feet, it's one of the few temperate rain forests in North America, bringing botanists and nature lovers from all over the world.

Highlands is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. With an abundance of opportunities for biking, hiking, horseback riding, tubing, canoeing, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting, adventure-seekers will not find a more beautiful backdrop.

The Details: The living room and both bedrooms have flat screen smart TV's and standard cable channels. We also have wifi. All of the bedding is memory foam- we understand everyone has their preference, but we get lots of compliments on our comfy beds. The kitchen is stocked with general kitchen essentials. All of our cabins are pet friendly with prior approval and a nominal pet fee.

There are many local attractions that include zip lining, mountain coasters, gem mining, white water rafting, fly-fishing, hiking, the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, winter tubing, skiing and snowboarding, ice skating, scenic drives, The Blue Ridge Parkway, and live theatre at the Smoky Mountain Performing Arts Center in Franklin and The Highlands Playhouse in Highlands.

I can't think of a better place to be than Highlands, NC. The only thing better is a location with the ability to walk everywhere in town and be above a Wine Shoppe! You will access to our Main St. facing front yard with fire pit, tables and chairs. The end to a perfect evening is having a glass of wine while sitting by the fire pit.

Our apartment was remodeled in 2017. Most of the work was done by my Father (a retired Highlands builder). We wanted to keep the characteristics of Highlands but offer modern amenities. Our property is #1 on the Historical Registry for Highlands.

The Location: Vale Cottage is located within the Highlands, NC town limits on Dog Mountain. It's just far enough from the beaten path that guests are one with nature but only 2 miles to Main Street and the center of Highlands shopping, dining, and nightlife.

The Property: Vale Cottage is a carriage house that is located on a 2+ acre wooded property. Sitting at roughly 50 feet from the main house, Vale Cottage has a privacy wall and is elevated so guests can relax in the solitude of their own cozy space.

The Cabin: Vale Cottage is newly renovated in 2017 and has all wood ceilings, rustic wood beams, soaring 15' ceilings, and tons of natural light in the common areas. If you haven’t visited Highlands in a while or it is a first there are new and exciting places and happenings as well as all the magnificent beauty and resources that abound in this elevated piece of heaven. Music in the town square and park, a movie theater where you can have glass of wine if you don’t want a coke, new eateries, shopping and entertainment for all.

Coffee and teas are always on hand and given notice grocery shopping ,meal and entertaining preparation can be arranged with ease and rave results.

If an unexpected storm comes up cutting power, no problem, our full house backup generator will step in until the utility crews arrive. A garage is also available to help you get out of the weather.

In case you need help or directions, the owners stay in a private unit below when in town. Last but not least (maybe first) rest and relaxing come easy with lovely views and beautiful sunrises. Some folks just decide to hang around and enjoy!

This is the perfect home base to explore the great outdoors. Hike to stunning waterfalls, visit the Appalachian Trail, or simply unwind and reconnect with nature. After a day of adventure, return to your peaceful retreat and relax on the porch as the sun sets over the rolling hills. Non-smoking property.

The space
This home is a duplex. You will be in the upper unit. We live in the lower unit, and one family member works remotely from home. If you ever need anything, just message us.

Feel free to enjoy the outdoor space on the property. Our house currently has Starlink internet service and a backup generator in case power in the area goes out for any reason. The generator will turn on occasionally during automatically scheduled test runs.

The TV is a smart Roku TV, so sign in to your favorite apps to watch your regular shows. Some apps offer 100% free programming (w/ads).

If you are unfamiliar with smart TVs and need help, we're happy to offer assistance and suggestions. Message us, and we can help ensure you have entertainment options during your stay.

Guest access
You should use the upper driveway (entry sign #37), though you can enjoy exploring the full property. Please be considerate of neighbors and don't make excessive noise after 9 pm or before 8 am, especially outside. This is a quiet neighborhood.

Fully furnished and newly renovated 1 bed/1 bath unit perfect for a traveling professional or vacationer looking to explore the area. Kitchen area with microwave, multiple appliances for cooking, full size fridge and tv in both living area and bedroom. Outside private patio overlooking a mountain view and pond.

Cozy, comfortable and clean cabin with huge deck for relaxing and enjoying the trees, birds and mountain view. Queen bed in one room, twin beds in second and very comfy sofa bed in living rm. Close to town and all area attractions but still secluded.

The space
The main floor is a complete and a very nice rental... cute, clean and relaxing with a huge deck. The somewhat finished basement has had some moisture and flooring damage and not really part of the Airbnb listing. It does not meet Airbnb’s standards. You are welcome to access the basement for use of the washer and dryer or extra bathroom but just know it’s a little rough.

Access to all... main living area, deck and carport including washer/dryer in basement. Charcoal grill is also available.

Other things to note
It's easiest to access the property by staying to the left after entering Swiss Colony. The road is mostly dirt and gravel and circles around to Pinecrest. Drive down into the driveway and back into the carport. Then just pull straight out to exit other end of the driveway and follow back down to entry/exit of Swiss Colony. Please do not try to exit at the steep side of the driveway. If you are faced that way, please do a 3 point turn in the driveway and exit the flatter side.
