Welcome to Highlands, North Carolina! If you're looking for a VRBO that is walking distance to most everything, then look no further. Lose yourself in the luxury and sophistication that Highlands has long been known for as a guest at our apartment.
Light and bright, the open concept creates a cozy yet spacious experience where you can relax or entertain in a modern meets rustic setting. Features include a fully equipped kitchen with gas range and granite counter tops, office nook for a working vacation, oak floors in the living area, laundry room with iron/ironing board, two porches and private parking for two vehicles.
In addition to the king size bed in the bedroom, we also have an EZ Bed Air Mattress elevated on legs with a cozy mattress topper for an additional 1-2 guests that can be set up in the living area, if needed.
A fun fact; the living area was once the dining hall of an old estate home situated above Founders Park. The pulley windows and coffered ceilings bring in the old Highlands character that is now hard to find. The apartment is on the second floor of a two story building, located above our Green Mountain Builders office.
As transplants to the area, we understand how easy it is to fall in love with Highlands and the surrounding area. As a real estate broker and builder, we are happy to help should you decide it's time for your own slice of paradise.

I can't think of a better place to be than Highlands, NC. The only thing better is a location with the ability to walk everywhere in town and be above a Wine Shoppe! You will access to our Main St. facing front yard with fire pit, tables and chairs. The end to a perfect evening is having a glass of wine while sitting by the fire pit.
Our apartment was remodeled in 2017. Most of the work was done by my Father (a retired Highlands builder). We wanted to keep the characteristics of Highlands but offer modern amenities. Our property is #1 on the Historical Registry for Highlands.

Just down the street from the world famous, Old Edwards Inn & Spa - voted #1 Spa & Inn in the US. Walk to exquisite shops, 5 star restaurants, & antique stores sprinkled all around the area. The Highlands Playhouse is the oldest playhouse in Western NC, has 4 live productions all summer long & 1st run movies 5 nights a week all year long, the Performing Arts Center has music and plays too, - both a block away from our apartment. Also 2 blocks away is the newly developed Kelsey and Hutchinson Park where concerts and picnics happen every Saturday night throughout the season as well as arts and craft shows several times a year! This is a lovely 2 bedroom, 2 bath first floor home in a 2 story duplex tucked away in the beautiful mountains of Franklin, NC. The house is ten miles from downtown Franklin. But because of the challenge we felt like we couldn't leave or we would risk the same challenge again, which was quite scary, especially with two kids and the very narrow road. I would recommend 4 wheel drive/AWD and arriving before dark as I think navigating after dark for the first time would be near impossible. Chloe is awesome, communicative and helpful."

We transformed an unfinished basement into a warm and inviting bungalow filled with wood and stone accents that bring in a rustic cabin feel. While the main home dates back to the 1960s, we've embraced its charm—so don’t be surprised if you spot some original iron piping or other vintage touches throughout the space.
Guest Access:
Your private pull-off parking spot fits one car and leads to a set of gently sloped stairs to a landing, followed by a standard stairway down to your private entrance. (See pictures)
The Neighborhood:
Mirror Lake is a peaceful, no-gas-motor lake just a couple miles from downtown Highlands. It’s a quiet, friendly community where the only sounds you’ll likely hear are birdsong and the gentle waterfall over the nearby dam. It’s the ideal spot to slow down and reconnect with nature.

A vehicle is recommended for getting around Highlands, as rideshare services are limited.
What We Provide:
We start your stay with hospitality-sized soaps and essentials, not full-size bottles, to give you a fresh welcome while keeping things eco-friendly. If you need more during your stay, downtown Highlands has several charming shops and stores to explore.
Dog-Friendly Policy:
We love dogs and welcome up to two well-behaved dogs under 60 lbs. A pet fee applies to help us maintain a fresh and clean space for all guests. For the comfort and safety of everyone, we ask that your furry friends be house-trained, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and ticks. Dogs are not permitted on beds or furniture and must be kept out of the lake. Please pick up after them and ensure they aren’t disruptive while you're home or away. We also ask that you do not throw your dog waste bags in the bottom of the outdoor trash bin. The town trash service only picks up closed trash bags in the trash bin. Please start a separate trash bag for this purpose and put it in after you have deposited your stay trash. Otherwise, it all gets stuck on the bottom and creates a mess. Have questions? Just ask!
Important Notes:
Trash must be bagged and placed in the street-side bin. Trash pickup is Tuesday and Friday mornings. Please help ensure the bin faces the street—Highlands’ trash service collects bags manually. So if it is not bagged, it sits in the bin, making a mess. PLEASE PUT ALL TRASH IN A TRASH BAG.
Only provided toilet paper (Charmin) may be flushed. Absolutely no wipes, hair, food grease, or… G.I. Joe figurines (yep, that happened). You’ll be responsible for plumbing damage if this guideline isn’t followed.
Please clean the grill after each use, including the grease tray, so the next guests can enjoy it too.
Notify us right away if anything breaks or isn’t working—we’re happy to fix it, and you won’t be charged for honest communication.

Depending on the season, we may be around during your stay. We’re always happy to answer questions or offer local recommendations. Welcome to the Hummingbird Suite. We’re conveniently located a little over a mile from the shoppes and restaurants of downtown Highlands and half a mile from the beautiful triple waterfalls of Glenn Falls and half a mile from the Farm at Old Edwards.
After a long day of hiking and exploring, you will love sinking into the new king-size Tuft and Needle mattress with 800 thread count sheets. The rainfall shower head, deluxe bath linens, Gilchrist+ Soames Reserve bath products, and heated floors in both the bathroom and the bedroom complete your stay in Highlands.
Guests will also enjoy the separate and large living room attached to the bedroom. There is a comfortable queen-size convertible bed which is perfect for families with young children or for two couples.
Before you head out on your day’s adventures, make your morning cup of coffee or tea in the kitchenette, which includes a new Keurig coffee machine, tea kettle, and mini-refrigerator. We recommend enjoying your coffee outside on the courtyard patio on one of four comfortable Adirondack chairs around the fire pit! (Firewood replenished daily)
When you return for the evening, cozy up on the couch to watch a movie on the 50 inch flat screen television or read one of the many books on the bookshelf. Netflix, Disney Channel, HBO Max and Prime Video available for your viewing pleasure. You could also build a puzzle or play one of the games we’ve provided for the game table.

Updated in 2023, the loft is the perfect space for someone looking to stay in town! When you walk upstairs into the Galax Loft, you’ll immediately notice the space has been thoughtfully curated to create a modern mountain atmosphere. From the vibrant furniture, gold fixtures, and an accent wall to the natural wooden beams, indoor foliage, and antique landscape paintings, the space is a perfect blend of what’s current and classic.

The walkway is covered on the top in case of rain/snow, but you may get wet if the wind is blowing sideways during a storm

1st bedroom has 1 king, 2nd bedroom has 2 queens, and both have full, private baths. Breakfast bar for 4, dining room table for 6. Great room and both bedrooms have flat screen TV's. Walk to town (2 blocks from Main Street, Highlands) - across the street from Highlands rec center with brand new public pool, tennis courts, etc.
In the winter, we are just a block from the new ice skating rink with hot chocolate and s'mores. Our brand new mattresses have 1200 thread count sheets.
Just down the street from the world famous, Old Edwards Inn & Spa - voted #1 Spa & Inn in the US. Walk to exquisite shops, 5 star restaurants, & antique stores sprinkled all around the area. Highlands is surrounded by hemlocks, rhododendrons and hydrangeas, perfect for hiking, picnics, fishing and more! The Highlands Playhouse is the oldest playhouse in Western NC, has 4 live productions all summer long & 1st run movies 5 nights a week all year long, the Performing Arts Center has music and plays too, - both a block away from our apartment. Also 2 blocks away is the newly developed Kelsey and Hutchinson Park where concerts and picnics happen every Saturday night throughout the season as well as arts and craft shows several times a year! Love the cooler weather as Highlands is at "elevation 4118 - the Height of Happiness" - come share our relaxing, laid back way of life in our very clean & charming apartment!

If reservation is cancelled more than 45 days prior to arrival, guest shall receive a refund of all payments made* less a cancellation fee of 10% of the total cost of the reservation AND the cost of any trip insurance if purchased.

This beautiful space is a large, 1600 sq foot downstairs basement apartment, with a private entrance through the shared garage. It is a quiet peaceful area and is conveniently located nearby unique shopping in Cashiers, as well as beautiful gorgeous hikes, waterfalls. and lakes. An outdoor deck circles the entire length of the apartment and many windows provide a beautiful view of the mountain. At the Wyndham Resort, just down the road is recreational fun for everyone with a pass.
The space
The newly remodeled spacious downstairs basement apartment has a large flat screen TV and comfortable living area, with comfy couch and lounge chair. The couch does not make out into a bed, however, the apartment has one luxury king bed and one queen bed. The eating area has a dining table with 6 chairs. The wet bar/kittenette has a microwave, sink, keurig coffee maker, stove, and mini refrigerator. There is also a large refrigerator just outside your door in the garage and you’re welcome to use it if needed. It is equipped with silverware, pans, dishes, paper towels, and dish soap. The dish soap is located in the dispenser on the sink. There are up to four outdoor chairs and a small table outside on the porch to enjoy if you like. Bring the chairs in if it looks like rain and you will have dry chairs to sit on. The apartment accommodates only four, so we limit you to a maximum of only five people.. Also, we prefer no children under 12 unless you talk to us first and get them approved. If you are staying for more than two nights we will be glad to supply extra towels. There is old towels to take with you for waterfalls and hiking that can get very wet and dirty and are located in the bottom left drawer on the left side of the King size bed. Please use the towels in the bathroom only in the apartment and the old towels in drawer for hiking and swimming. If you go to the Wyndham Resort and have a pass, they will give you towels there to use for swimming and workout.

If wanted, amenities at the Wyndham Resort are 5 miles away and are available to our guess for a weekly rate or a three day rate of 5 dollars. You can get your pass at the Wyndham resort by giving them our name and address. The resort pass includes miniature golf, 3 pools, 2 hot tubs, horse shoes, game room with ping pong, arcade, and pool table, as well as a work out room. Also, discounted golf and tennis. With the pass, guests also have access to the beautiful private mountain Lake Fairfield, with hiking trail, swimming, covered picnic tables, BBQ, water sports, a boat dock. It is available approximately 3 miles away down US64 on the right.

You will access to our Main St. facing front yard with fire pit, tables and chairs. The end to a perfect evening is having a glass of wine while sitting by the fire pit.

Located on the second floor, please note there are outside stairs to use in both the front and back to access the building. We have a kitchenette that works well for appetizers, light meal prep or morning tea, and our large open loft overlooks the park, Main Street and Satulah Mountain. We do not have a television on-site, but have excellent wi-fi for your device. The location is outstanding.
