The cottage features a comfortable open floor plan interior. You'll find a fully equipped kitchen, comfy king size bed in spacious bedroom, washer/dryer, and double sinks in the bathroom. Crack the bedroom windows and listen to the soothing sounds of the babbling brook as you fall asleep.

Outside, you'll find lots of options to relax. Guests love to swing in the screened-in porch while listening to the tiny cascading waterfall, bask on the sun deck, enjoy a beverage while rocking on the private front porch, lounge on the hammock in the garden, or warm up by the fire pit while taking in the cool evening air.

GOOD NEWS: We now have high-speed Internet!! We were among the first customers to get online via a new fiber optic backbone installed in 2023, delivering plenty of bandwidth for all you Internet needs.

Guests are welcome to use the Amazon Echo device on the kitchen counter to access music, news, weather, etc. through Alexa voice commands or are free to turn it off during their stay. Be advised there are outdoor surveillance cameras monitoring the entrances for security purposes only.

Easily accessed off scenic Hwy 9, the property is located just 10-15 minutes from boating and hiking at Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, and only 20-30 minutes from downtown Black Mountain, Asheville, Hendersonville, Biltmore estate, and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

In case you're wondering how far shops, gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. are from the cottage, here's is a bit more info of what you'll find nearby along the routes to the nearby towns of Black Mountain, Hendersonville, and Lake Lure. All three towns are special in their own way and are roughly equidistant from the cottage but in different directions. Each area has its own personality with unique restaurants, eclectic shops, and breweries/wineries. You should be able to use your GPS to map any of the places I've named below, but there's so much more to see than I can possibly name here.

BLACK MOUNTAIN (NORTH): The exquisitely quaint,
casual, and pet-friendly town of Black Mountain (https://exploreblackmountain.com) has a really neat and walkable downtown with its inviting Town Square, unique shops - including an authentic old-fashioned general store, art galleries, and repurposed train depot - museums, coffee shops, breweries, and dozens of restaurants, all just 25 minutes from the cottage. A short drive from downtown is the picturesque Lake Tomahawk Park and the hiking trails of Montreat. About a mile or so before you reach the downtown area, you find Artisan Gourmet Market and an Ingles gas and grocery store, which are about 13 miles (23 minutes) from the cottage. The town of Black Mountain is a must see, but it's just a bit tedious to drive to because of the twists and turns you'll find heading northbound on beautiful Hwy 9. The road is fully paved, impeccably maintained, and fun to drive, but less convenient to navigate. Roughly mid-way along the route to downtown, about 12 minutes from the cottage, you'll find the welcoming Straightaway Cafe & Pub, a local favorite worth checking out.

CHIMNEY ROCK / LAKE LURE (SOUTH, THEN EAST): Just 10 minutes from the cottage you'll find the charming Chimney Rock Village (https://www.chimneyrock.org), which boasts a nice variety of shops and restaurants, as well as a brewery, a winery, and the scenic Rocky Broad riverwalk, all surrounding the spectacular hiking of Chimney Rock State Park. If you continue through Chimney Rock Village eastbound on hwy 64 for another five minutes or so, you'll see Lake Lure's scenic Flowering Bridge, Washburn Marina and Morse park, all of which are a must see. Continuing past the marina, the drive will become a bit more windy and scenic as you circle the lake on route to an Ingles gas and grocery store on the far southeast end of Lake Lure, roughly 11 miles (23 minutes) from the cottage. If you're into horses, driving another 22 minutes south on hwy 9 and then east on hwy 74 will bring you to the amazing Tryon International Equestrian Center, with all sorts of family-friendly events going on year round.

HENDERSONVILLE (SOUTH, THEN WEST): The closest and most conveniently accessed gas station is 10 miles away from the cottage heading west (southwest) on hwy 64, where you'll find an Exxon right beside Griffin's Grocery & Cafe. Continuing westbound along hwy 64 another 20-25 minutes will bring you to Downtown Hendersonville (https://www.romanticasheville.com/hendersonville.htm), a chic and casual-upscale area that we just love. As the second largest downtown in Western North Carolina (second only to Asheville), downtown Hendersonville has all sorts of shops, restaurants, galleries and even a pinball museum along the pedestrian-friendly half-mile Main Steet, as well as lots of other eats and breweries less than a mile away. It's well worth the trip if you've got the time. Three miles shy of the downtown Hendersonville area on hwy 64, you'll find the largest concentration and assortment of recognizable franchise shopping center stores and chain restaurants, as well as numerous fast food options. You'll also find in that area multiple groceries and gas stations, all about 15 miles (25 minutes) from the cottage, including (you guessed it) another Ingles grocery store.

NOTE: It's worth mentioning that, in terms of ease of driving, I prefer going to Hendersonville to run errands because there are fewer twists and turns compared to the drives into Black Mountain and Lake Lure. Honestly, though, I look forward to visiting each of these areas every time I'm at the cottage and I know you will, too.

September 27, 2024, is a day we will never forget here in WNC. Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc to this area of our mountains. Slowly but surely, we are rebuilding.
Grandma's Cabin was miraculously spared and is now up and running.
We do need to let everyone know that the road conditions are rough in some parts. The town of Chimney Rock is closed to the public while being rebuilt, Despite the devastation there is still so much beauty in this area in the land and people.

Friends ask why we are renting such an amazing log cabin. After living in New York and South Florida for over 30 years, our family decided to move to the enchanting town of Asheville, NC to raise our children. We still love living in Asheville, but we wanted a mountain escape that our family could enjoy from time to time. After years of searching we found the perfect Mountain Top site to build our dream vacation and eventual retirement home that is in a gated community with paved roads and some of the most breathtaking views in North Carolina. The best part was that is less than 30 minutes to Asheville. So in 2018 we built the most amazing log cabin vacation home in the perfect spot with 360 degree views as far as the eye can see. Since we live so close and enjoy it all the time, we decided to share this incredible log cabin so other families can enjoy it as much as we do.

We keep our availability calendar up to date. Please check our calendar before inquiring about availability. We usually respond to all email inquiries right away or within a few hours at most. If you inquire by phone and there is no answer, please leave a message with the dates requested and any other details and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We have a 3 night minimum requirement in the off-season (Sept, Nov-May excluding holidays and spring break) and a 3-7-night minimum in-season (Memorial Day through Labor Day and October) and all holidays and spring break. Please do not inquire for less than 3 nights.

- "Nice n relaxing..even the big bear was cool to c" - "Property was well maintained and the Cabin just as nice. Beautiful and well made cabin with all the amenities (in working condition) and for once a clean hot tub. Even after a long hot hike in Pisgah or along the BRP, relaxing in the hot tub was a great way to take in the outdoor and frolicking creek. Black Mtn is neat little town and has everything you need without visiting downtown Asheville. Lastly, it was a pleasure to meet the host Mike out on the mountain road working hard and I could tell he takes pride in these properties. Very responsive as well. Truly a great place to detach and enjoy the outdoors."

- "The cabin is fantastic only surpassed by the setting!! We look for a vacation for our dogs each year, preferably near water for them to play in; this was PERFECT!!! The cabin itself is very comfortable, well laid and appointed very nicely; above most other rentals we've stayed in the past. The kitchen had everything you need including, a rental rarity, SHARP KNIVES!!! I cook quite a bit when on vacation so this is especially important to me and was a nice bonus! Kurig and Drip Coffee Makers are provided as well as crock pot, Ninja blender and all the items you will need to prepare your meals. We also provide hair dryers and iron/ironing board. There is an oversized stone covered WOOD Burning Fireplace indoors that can be used from October 1 to March 31. You can use the outdoor fireplace year round. The wrap around deck, with seating for 16+, has couches and chaise lounges are excellent for entertaining. They also provide year round peace and quiet while listening to the sounds of nature. There is an outdoor 6 person HOT TUB on the lower level that affords privacy. The GAME ROOM is fun for the young and old alike. We have a large screen TV for sports lovers in the Family Room and Basement Recreation area. If you like foosball, Ping-Pong, board games or tons of books, we have that too. Our gated community is entirely paved so you will not need an all-wheel or four-wheel drive car. The oversized driveway is not steep and can easily accommodate up to 8+ cars.

COMET FALLS LODGE is truly a unique mountain retreat that you never need to leave. There are countless hiking trails, streams, rivers and waterfalls nearby. The most common animals that you may encounter while out and about are deer, wild turkeys, rabbits and birds that span the colors of the rainbow. You may get lucky and spot a bear. At COMET FALLS LODGE, you will feel a million miles away, but you are minutes from the cultural conveniences of Asheville & Black Mountain. All linens, blankets and towels are provided and we have an extra large Washer & Dryer for your use. We also have hair dryers for your use while visiting. The custom dining table (made from reclaimed bowling alley lanes) really seats 16 VERY COMFORTABLY, there are 4 stools for seating at the kitchen bar and extra chairs and tables if needed for family gatherings. We also provide firewood for your use in the winter months. For outdoor grilling, we have a propane gas BBQ grill in the garage for you to use. TV service is provided by You tube TV with tons of local and cable channels and apps you can log into with your accounts. There are Flat Screen TVs located in the family room, the lower level recreation area and ALL 5 Master Suites. The Wi-Fi Internet is provided through Sky Runner and works great for surfing the web, checking emails, and streaming some movies. We also have Starlink internet which works great so we have 2 sources of high speed internet for you. The house has a landline for unlimited U.S. telephone calls. Cell service depends on your carrier, but Verizon cellular service works best for mobile phones. We also have an outdoor wood burning fireplace with cozy couches. There are security cameras on the outside of the house, there are no cameras anywhere inside the cabin.

PET POLICY: Up to 2 well behaved dogs MAX. (no cats) that are NOT puppies, that ARE housebroken, that NEVER chew and will not scratch or freak out and scratch when you leave, assuming you don't bring your own cage to use while you are out. There is a $195 non-refundable pet fee and you must get prior owner approval as to the type of dog(s) before any pets are permitted.

Come celebrate in the gorgeous mountains of Black Mountain and enjoy long range mountain views at 3000 feet from the wraparound deck, gorgeous sunsets and town lights. Restaurants and shops are now open and the area is still as beautiful and special as ever. We are only 5 minutes to downtown Black Mtn, 15 to Asheville. Downtown you will find unique mountain shops, great restaurants, breweries, music venues and more. The cabin has 4 bedrooms, 3 downstairs, a queen bedroom, full bedroom and bunk room. There is a full bath with shower and a laundry room downstairs. The master bedroom is in the loft with a king bed, large soaking tub, bath and shower. The soaking tub has curtains for privacy and cannot be viewed from below. We have an endless hot water tank so you never run out of hot water. The main floor consists of the dining room, table seating for 6. The kitchen is well-stocked with condiments, spices, oils, blender, Mr Coffee, small Keurig, crock pot, nice potware. Plenty of extra paper products and cleaning products. There is a gas grill on the deck. The living room has a TV, with great wifi service and gas firelogs. We have French doors which provides a beautiful view of the mountains. There is a half bath on the main floor. We have plenty of parking with a long drive. We have a winding staircase that goes from downstairs to the loft. There are also stairs outside that provide access to the downstairs area. The neighborhood is very private and quiet. There is a computer desk in the loft. We are dog friendly, for more than 1, please let me know. No cats unfortunately allowed. Black Mountain is very pet friendly and most restaurants and stores are very accommodative. We are open winter months and is a beautiful season with clear views of the mountain range. We will be fully decorated for Christmas with a real NC tree. We have discounted winter rates and I have discounted further December rates to encourage guests to come and enjoy this special Christmas after Hurricane Helene. More and more attractions will be opening as wonderful volunteers and organizations work diligently to restore the area. Fortunately, Black Mtn is recovering quickly and we love being able to share our mountain cabin with our guests and make your visit special.

- "Good" - "Incredible views! So close to town and surrounding waterfalls and trails. Had great meals at unique restaurants in downtown Black Mtn. We loved hiking around Montreat and drove over to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Hopped onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiked around Mount Mitchell. The cabin itself was super clean and very comfortable. And the view! Just amazing. Tons to do and see in the area and you can’t go wrong staying at this cabin!"
