My place is close to art and culture, dance halls, restaurants, downtown, shopping, swamp tours, historical places, antiques. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space, the comfy queen bed, the light.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with small kids), and small groups. We live on 10 acres. We have pastures of horses and chickens. It is a peaceful and serene area that is very close to the city of Lafayette. We are 3 miles from I-10 and 8 miles to I-49. There are lots of great restaurants and areas to visit.

- "Classy, very classy." - "Loved staying here, great property, nice high ceiling, huge main room. Location is good, in the middle of town, but not noisy at night. Internet connection was fast and reliable, I worked remotely from here and the Zoom didn’t drop out once. 100% recommend." - "We were in Suite D which is on the back side of the 4 suite location. Great location but there is the early morning (4am) noise of the post office immediately behind this suite and the 2x nightly train whistle if you are a light sleeper. The condo was lovely and we would stay again but we encourage the host to add a lounge chair (plenty of room for it) and more dishes/cups since it sleeps up to 5 but only had 4 dinner plates and 3 cups. Cleaning staff needs to pay a little more attention to the table which had smears on the table and place mats from prior guests but otherwise very clean and easy in and out."

*The preferred mode of travel here is Uber or Lyft. Bicycles work in the downtown area, and we do have a bike rack in the back yard. Bike rental is available at Hub City Cycles at 501 Jefferson St.

- "This was supposed to be a two bathroom situation and upon arrival one bathroom had no water in the toilet at all and the walking machine was taped closed to not be used. There was a broken lamp shade that was just hanging there, which ok no biggie but then there was a broken kitchen chair that was left that could have been potentially sat in and fallen out of. When we started getting ready for bed and making sure all exit doors were locked we found that there was a door in the front bedroom that led outside that would not close so the way so I walked outside to make sure it wouldn’t open and it did. I was able to pull open the supposedly locked door we tried our hardest to push the door from the outside to make it close securely but it would not, there were literal cracks in the door that I could see the light coming from on the outside when walking up to it so the room was freezing. I let the host know about the one bathroom not working he said thanks and he’d get his maintenance team over on the next day to check on that. Then I informed him of not being able to close and lock the door securely and that we couldn’t stay there because it wasn’t safe for five women to stay in by themselves since they area it’s in isn’t the greatest looking area. There was no response and the host tried to block me in the app… I made a formal complaint then to VRBO and was told that because we left the property before telling VRBO that they couldn’t do anything for us except contact the host."

The Jules Broussard Buidling was built in 1885. This building was originally located on W. Bridge St. next to the railroad track. It was first a general store operated by Jules Broussard and in 1905 housed Breaux Bridge’s first public school. In 1920, it was moved to its present site by log rollers a team of oxen. Here it has served as an opera house, a temporary armory hall, a Woodmen of the World meeting hall, and a shoe repair shop. It is presently used as a historic short term rental tourist destination.

Guests will have access to the entire 1 bed, 1 bath loft apartment, as well as the attached porch & the parking area. The parking area may be shared by guests in the downstairs apartment at times.

The space
The Old Guaranty Bank building, located at 500 Jefferson Street in Lafayette, LA, was constructed in 1905 and served as the Bank of Lafayette. It's a historically significant building, notable for its Colonial Revival architecture with domed pavilion entrance and ornate details. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It has been transformed into a wedding and event venue called "The Jefferson."

It's currently home to The Jefferson Event Venue & Ton's Restaurant downstairs... and 5 apartments upstairs, including the large corner Penthouse that overlooks the corner of Jefferson & Congress from it's dome. The apartments are a mix of short term rentals and permanent residents.

There is gated parking in the rear of the building, located on the corner of Buchanan St & Congress St. Each apartment is allotted 2 parking spots. Overflow parking is located in the open parking lot next to Ton's Restaurant. It can be found by putting 516 Jefferson St in the GPS.

You will be allotted 2 parking spots in the gated area for your vehicles. You will also have the entire apartment completely to yourself. There are some common areas - mainly the parking lot, stairs & hallway in between the apartment.

Other things to note
This property is upstairs in a historic building that requires climbing stairs. There is no elevator available for this building.

It's also located in the center of downtown Lafayette, LA over Ton's Restaurant & The Jefferson Event Venue. Nights can be noisy at times, especially on weekends. We do provide a sound machine & ear plugs. It's a great spot for guests of weddings & events downstairs. Feel free to message for more info about weekend events.

There is a camera located in the stairwell that goes up to the apartment. It's located over the window in the corner so that we're able to see the entire stairwell to the apartment & ensure the safety of our guests.

The Sebastian Home is a Historical Victorian Mansion built in 1910 during a time of growth
and prosperity in Cajun country after the train arrived in 1880. "The Duchess" Anna Sebastian was a house
servant/ and personal assistant to the Mouton amilyFamily in the 1800's). The Sebastian Family Migrated
here in 1827 from spain in an attempt to escape political persecution and make an new life in a new land. During that time
the land known as the West Feliciania Parishes were still under spanish control and the Sebastian family was planted here in an
attempt to secure population and control of the area that was becoming overrun with the "Acadians". Due to her unique
genealogy and striking features, Anna was revered as a beauty beyond all belief. At the age of 13, she was hired by the Mouton Family as a
"house girl" or host. During her years of service to the Mouton Family, it was never said or mentioned where Anna had come from or
weather or not she was a member of the Mouton Family. This is where her title came from being known as "The Duchess". Due to the Extreme
importance and power of the Mouton Family, as with the current plantation, there was an overbearing importance placed on the need
to secure power and political control during the growing and imperial colonizing time of the 1800's. This was done through marriage and
alliances with other powerful lords of the land. This is were the extreemly important task of seducing men came into the duty list of "The Duchess"
She was a musical talent as well as beautiful and would captivate the gentlemen visitors with here charm and voice, all while never letting on that
she was not a daughter to Charles Homier Mouton. The Suitors would none the less always call and Charles used this influence to Politically Maneuver
his way the the office of Leutanant Gouvenor through marriage of his actual daughters to extremely wealthy and powerful Plantation Owners of the Mississippi/ New Orleans Valley
and the Point Coupee/ Cote Jelee Ridge. It was further quested that due to the undaughted success of the 13 Marriages, the efforts of the Duchess, produced 3 Governors, 6 Senators and
over half a million acres of real estate. Quietly and without knowing, she was the driving force behind the most powerful family bloodline in Louisiana History.
