Visitors need to be aware that the cabin next door is very close and shares the firepit, so privacy can be a concern. The Willow desperately needs curtains in the living room. The afternoon sun beats down on the cabin and the a/c unit can't keep the cabin cool in the afternoon. We had no issues with the a/c at night, but it's kind of creepy at night being totally exposed with no window coverings. A huge turn off for us was the well water which smelled terrible and left us stinky after taking a bath. It was because of this that we chose to leave a day early. The maintenance team needs to check on the toilet which rocks off the base. Extra towels and linens would be a plus for visitors, as we had exactly 1 towel for each person, and would require washing laundry daily. Shower was lukewarm and could use some towel hooks."

Cabin:

The Cabin is centrally located in Acadiana, which includes 22 parishes in French Louisiana in the southern part of the state. The cabin’s back balcony gives you a view of Bayou Petite Anse. You may see an alligator sunning himself or looking for prey along with a bullfrog happily jumping his way down the bayou. Iberia Parish is home to 240 species of birds. During wood duck season, you can watch the wood ducks hatching in the three boxes by the wharf. Alligators, garfish and catfish make their way down the waterway in this Louisiana paradise.
The cabin has kayaks with paddles and life jackets that can be used at the boat launch on the property.

The loft bedroom is decorated in a Rip Van Winkle Garden theme and is a large area that is accessed by stairs and is open to the living area. It has a king size bed and a King Coil queen air mattress that can be added if additional sleeping is needed. Rip Van Winkle Gardens is known for their peacocks walking around the grounds in all their splendor and this room is a reflection of the beauty that can be found at the Gardens.

The Tabasco themed bedroom, located downstairs, has a king bed and is directly across from the bathroom. Take time to look at the prints and items that tell the story of Tabasco. End your night by reading the beautifully illustrated book “TABASCO: An Illustrated History” by Shane Bernard. There is a TV with an apple box set up.

The newly renovated bathroom, located downstairs, offers you a choice of a roomy shower or a soaking tub.

The kitchen has brand new appliances, new granite countertops and an open floor plan. You can cook and watch the 55” TV and if weather permits, turn on the gas fireplace to warm up the place.

The laundry room has a large, full size washer and dryer. The Cabin is equipped with many cooking items from pots to baking pans, blender, mixer, omelet maker, Keurig coffee pot and more.

Parking will never be an issue. There is ample space to park.

This location is close to Downtown New Iberia, Abbeville, Lafayette, Broussard, St. Martinville, Breaux Bridge, Jeanerette and Franklin. Enjoy one of our many restaurants, all within a 10 mile radius or run to the meat market/grocery store five miles away and cook at the Cabin. There is just so much to see and do here!

Area:
Tabasco is 8 minutes drive from the cabin. Jungle Gardens, the museum, the store and restaurant are walk up. Factory tours are available. The Cabin is located on Bayou Petite Anse where you can kayak down the bayou directly from the cabin to the McIlhenny Tabasco Factory. You can drive through Jungle Gardens and view the bird sanctuary. Finish your day with a tour of the factory and eat lunch at Tabasco’s 1868 Restaurant. End your day with a visit to the Tabasco country store and make sure you try the Tabasco ice cream. This destination is six miles from the Cabin and can easily be reached by car.

In the opposite direction is Rip Van Winkle Gardens. Five miles from the Cabin sits a beautiful semi-tropical garden with a tour of the Joseph Jefferson Mansion. Café Jefferson overlooks Lake Peigneur and offers tasty dishes with a southern flair. Our family favorite is Seafood Heaven. Rip’s Rookery has many species of birds, among them the Spoonbill Roseate. Jefferson Island has over 260 species of birds. It is truly a bird watchers paradise.

Konrico Company Store/Conrad Rice Mill is the oldest operating rice mill in the US and only six miles from the Cabin. Tour the Rice Mill, you can taste the rice and buy it from their store on property. Try the Wild Pecan Brown Rice. It’s our family favorite!

The Shadows on the Teche was built in 1834 on the banks of Bayou Teche and it is located six miles from the Cabin. The Spanish moss draped oaks and gardens are breathtaking. The Classic Revival-style home with a Louisiana Colonial floor plan has tours daily.

Downtown New Iberia, located six miles from the Cabin and conveniently down the street from The Shadows on the Teche, offers many restaurants, shopping and bar options. Also located downtown is the Bayou Teche Museum, a state-of-the art museum with a permanent collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the region telling the story of a growing city, its people, culture and industry all centered around the “snake-like” curves of the Bayou Teche. It also offers a “Rodrigue Comes Home” rotating exhibit of original paintings by George Rodrigue.

Visit the Paul Schexnayder Studio + Gallery and shop for paintings, ceramics, collage, wood and metal art, jewelry, prints, books and gifts from artists in the area. Three of Paul’s pieces hang in the Cabin.

Welcome to Sunset Grove! Nestled on a bluff overlooking Bayou Sylvain, Sunset Grove features a renovated and remodeled camp house on six acres of beautiful land teeming with mature live oaks, magnolias, ash, cherry, cedar, elm, fig, hickory, pecan, sycamore, holly trees and the list goes on. Owls, hawks and eagles love Sunset Grove and so will you. Wood ducks, in particular, are often seen along our wooded, narrow stretch of Bayou Sylvain.

The camp boasts four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The downstairs space is cozy with natural exposed wood beams and panels, a brick wall fireplace, a Smart TV above the mantle and a fully equipped kitchen open to the sizable living room. There is one bedroom located downstairs and an additional three bedrooms located upstairs. The upstairs area also features a comfortable sitting room equipped with a Smart TV. - "Very recommended " - "Very nice place to stay for a getaway." - "We liked the cabin and loved our time at Avery Island. A few things to remember check the weather, we had rain and could not light our fire as it rained half of our trip. Someone had to empty the firepit as it was full and we could not use it on the only dry night. A few things about this cabin, the stove, dishwasher, and fridge are awesome, perfect cabin to cook in. The coffee and kurig pot were super convenient. The water was always hot for the shower. We loved the fireplace. The hot tub was a tricky situation. The error message was saying (per google) to add water it was low. Whomever serviced this did not clean it. We added hot water via the tap near the hot tub and turned on the bubbles as the heat pump error came up and would not get hot. Once we added water and turned the bubbles on the hot tub came up to temperature. We had called, someone had "serviced" it prior three days before... they need to drain it and rinse it and refill it before each guest. As we sat we saw the foam of the hot tub had hair and dirt in it. We showered immediately. Only used it once. The stairs for the second floor is a ladder style. This did not bother me, I slept like a baby. The washer and dryer are on the second floor, so washing was fun, we tossed each other our things to wash and when they were done drying we threw them down to each other. The sofa was very comfortable. The mattresses are firm and do mold to you for comfort. They provide plenty of everything you could need. Thank you :)"

You are renting the red cabin only. The red cabin is a one-room cabin with one double bed, two bunk beds and a bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. The kitchenette contains only a microwave, a small refrigerator and a sink with hot and cold water, flat ware, coffee cups, coffee maker for grounds and paper towels, bath towels, some china, and paper plates. There is a land line phone 337-737-2450. The red cabin is cooled and heated with a wall air conditioner which is also controlled by a remote. It also has Direct-TV with DVR and WiFi.
There is a Polaris 4-wheeler which is on the property and can be included for $25.00 a day with the proper credentials for the person using the 4-wheeler. See the (wheeler contract).
The cabin is located on approximately one acre of land along with the main camp and has playground equipment, including a zip-line for the kids, a slide and a merry-go-round. Out at the end of the levy is a fishing pier with an upper deck. The fishing pier is available. Usually there are several crab traps on the deck and can be baited and thrown in (always throw with the bait down) or you can use string with bait. It has a sink with cold water only. The upper deck is a wonderful place to view sunsets over the marsh or to fish and sunbath.

- "We stayed two nights with a party of 8 friends. The property is perfect for such a large group, consisting of four almost identical large bedrooms each with a queen and single bed and an ensuite. There is a large well equipped kitchen and the fridge was stocked with cold drinks when we arrived. Thanks to the mosquito screens the large balcony is perfect to sit outside whilst overlooking the marshes. Shellie and Joey are great hosts. Shellie cooked us a lovely cajun meal and Joey took us into the marshes with the air boat. Highly recommended."

- "We liked the cabin and loved our time at Avery Island. A few things to remember check the weather, we had rain and could not light our fire as it rained half of our trip. Someone had to empty the firepit as it was full and we could not use it on the only dry night. A few things about this cabin, the stove, dishwasher, and fridge are awesome, perfect cabin to cook in. The coffee and kurig pot were super convenient. The water was always hot for the shower. We loved the fireplace. The hot tub was a tricky situation. The error message was saying (per google) to add water it was low. Whomever serviced this did not clean it. We added hot water via the tap near the hot tub and turned on the bubbles as the heat pump error came up and would not get hot. Once we added water and turned the bubbles on the hot tub came up to temperature. We had called, someone had "serviced" it prior three days before... they need to drain it and rinse it and refill it before each guest. As we sat we saw the foam of the hot tub had hair and dirt in it. We showered immediately. Only used it once. The stairs for the second floor is a ladder style. This did not bother me, I slept like a baby. The washer and dryer are on the second floor, so washing was fun, we tossed each other our things to wash and when they were done drying we threw them down to each other. The sofa was very comfortable. The mattresses are firm and do mold to you for comfort. They provide plenty of everything you could need. Thank you :)"

Our cozy cabin offers 1200 sq. ft. of living area, including a covered front porch. The main portion of the house was built in the 1860's. The cabin has three bedrooms: one with a king, one with a queen, and one with two double beds. There are two bathrooms; one is a shower/tub combo and the other is a claw foot tub that can also be used as a shower.
