- "The location is great! The apartment complex has great amenities and is very quiet. Dedicated parking in the garage was also really nice. We used the pool & hot tub every day. With the building next to the Marina, there is a lot of bird poop on the pool deck/furnishings/in the pool - maintenance at the complex could tend to this better. The same goes for the dog park area - even on the 4th floor going into the parking garage, you can smell the urine/feces of the dog park on the ground floor. The apartment itself was really nicely furnished with everything our family needed. Having two bathrooms and an in-unit washer/dryer was great! The cleaning team may have been rushed, as certain things were overlooked/lacking, like vacuuming & cleaning the showers. There were towels in the dryer, dishes in the dishwasher & hair on the clean towels that we were able to rewash. Management was super responsive and helpful. We would stay here again. Thank you!"

In addition, kayaking and paddle boarding are available behind the marina waterfront building. Located minutes from the Row, which includes Circus Circus, El Dorado, and the Silver Legacy Casinos, you can try your luck at gambling or catch a great show. The National Bowling Stadium, where professional bowling tournaments are held, is also located downtown, just blocks from the Row. The Riverwalk, featuring the Truckee River on one side and world-class restaurants on the other, is a great place to people-watch, enjoy a meal, take in the view, and visit a microbrewery or two just south of the main downtown area.

Reno and the surrounding area offer a variety of local attractions for visitors to enjoy. Carson City, the state capital, is a great place to learn about the history and culture of Nevada. **Charming Pet Friendly Downtown Sparks Apartment**

The space
We are David and Denise Quirk, your hosts. We welcome you to our lovely apartment in beautiful downtown historic Sparks! Sparks is a railroad town, as you will see when you wander down Victorian Avenue. Here is a brief history of our beloved Sparks Museum, which we are members and invite you to visit, located a few blocks southeast of here:

"The Sparks Museum’s first home was a small room in the basement of City Hall, where it quickly outgrew the quarters. Early in the museum’s existence the City of Sparks recognized its historical importance and provided an empty storefront at 820 Victorian Avenue. In 1995 Washoe County recognized the significance of the project by donating the Sparks Justice of the Peace building at 814 Victorian Avenue to the City of Sparks for a museum.
Today, the two buildings house engaging exhibits which connect local community members and visitors to the rich heritage and diversity of Sparks and the Truckee Meadows. A cultural center, a small archival research library, collections storage and administrative offices are also located in the two buildings.
The Museum facility also includes the nationally registered historic Glendale Schoolhouse and an outdoor train exhibit comprised of a steam locomotive, a cupola caboose and a Pullman executive car.

The Museum is currently in the midst of a Revitalization Project designed to generate a broader base of visitors and increased usage of the museum facility both at the local and national tourism level. The nationally registered historic building, which forms the cornerstone of the Sparks Museum, was recently rehabilitated and opened a Cultural Center in November 2011 thanks to community efforts. (See 2011 Annual Report). The Museum now offers expanded Arts and Humanities programming in addition to our exhibits and collections.

The Museum depends upon memberships, donations to our foundation and the services of volunteers in order to operate. The Sale of “The Heritage of Sparks” Last Chance Joe License plates through Nevada DMV locations benefits Sparks Museum Foundation too. Revenues are also generated through our Gift Shop and the Facility Rentals for local events and workshops. We encourage you to become a Member, make a Donation or become a Volunteer so that the Sparks Museum and Cultural Center can continue to provide invaluable educational programs, as well as preserve our shared cultural heritage for future generations of our community."

Who is that statue, "Last Chance Joe," representing? A jolly gold-digging prospector, of course! The statue used to be across the street greeting casino visitors at the Nugget, until the Nugget changed owners and didn't want the "old" theme. Sparks residents are happy that piece of history was preserved and we enjoy seeing him as the symbolic welcoming guy as we enter our town.

We have lived in Sparks for most of our lives, and hope you will do a number of activities and schedule to return to our Air B & B for annual events that our whole family enjoys, such as the following:

•Truckee River (traversing Sparks westward to its head in Truckee, California and eastward to its destination in Pyramid Lake), including walking paths and seasonal special events, as well as kayaking at Wingfield Park in Reno
•Aces Baseball Stadium in Reno (April - September our hometown Reno Aces play and every Friday night there are fireworks at the end of the game! Renoaces.com)
•July is "Art Town" in Reno (artown.org) and includes an amazing array of free events every day in July focusing on music, art and fun
•Independence Day in Sparks and Reno (refer to a friendly site "newtoreno.com" for events and details)
•Hot August Nights (the first week in August, our signature Reno-Sparks event which rolls through downtown and includes muscle car drag races, a sock hop, and miles and miles of amazing vehicles to see and buy at auctions)
•The Best in the West Rib Cookoff is the last week in August/first week in September (nuggetribcookoff.com). You are in the prime location to attend this event on Victorian Avenue near the Nugget Casino, as available parking fills up and you can walk to the Rib Cookoff from your front door!
•Balloon Races (the first week in September, at Rancho San Rafael park in Reno. Be sure to plan a very early breakfast and be at the "Dawn Patrol" launch at 0430! Then enjoy the balloon races and a stroll through the large arboretum in Rancho San Rafael park or the May Museum there as well)
•Reno International Air Races (the second week in September, at Stead Air Field north of Reno. Denise's favorite since its beginning in 1964, which she attended many times with her Dad, the Air Races are the world's fastest motor sport...in the air over your head from the grandstand! Modified World War II planes reach speeds over 400 mph! Spend a week there taking in the sounds and go to the pits to see, touch, and hear more from the pilots and mechanics, as well as the demonstrations from world-renowned military teams including the Blue Angels and Canadian Snowbirds!)
•Farmers Market in Sparks is also located on Victorian Avenue on Thursdays through the summer, which includes crafts, art and other fun things.
•Sprouts market is up the road a few miles (125 Disc Drive, Sparks, open 7:00am - 10:00pm). The nearest market to our Air B & B that we love is Raleys, at 2895 North McCarran Boulevard at the corner of Pyramid and N. McCarran, also open 7:00 am - 10:00 pm.
