Oban is known as “the seafood capital of Scotland” and the “gateway to the Hebridean Islands”, and Creaky Cabin puts you within easy reach of all that this vibrant coastal town has to offer. Despite the cabin’s tucked-away feel, Oban’s shops, supermarkets, and numerous seafood restaurants (serving the freshest catch of the day) are only about a mile away. Don’t miss an evening stroll along Oban’s scenic promenade, where you can watch the ferries arrive in the harbour and enjoy famous west-coast sunsets over the bay.
For sightseeing, you’re spoiled for choice.

History and architecture enthusiasts can visit McCaig’s Tower, an iconic 19th-century hilltop attraction that offers panoramic views of Oban Bay and the surrounding islands, it’s just a short drive or a moderate uphill walk from the town center.

Oban Distillery, one of Scotland’s oldest whisky distilleries, is located in the heart of town, take a tour and sample the famed single malt Scotch whisky.

If you’re feeling adventurous, the Oban ferry terminal (only 5 minutes from the cabin) provides easy access to day trips: hop on a ferry to the Isle of Mull, Iona, or Kerrera for stunning landscapes and historic sites.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find numerous hiking trails, coastal walks, and even kayaking opportunities nearby.

After a day of exploring the West Highlands, return to the comfort of Creaky Cabin for a cosy shower and freshen up. Before considering heading back into Oban for a treat, perhaps some award-winning fish and chips or a visit to our favourite pub, The Oban Inn. Then retreat to your peaceful cabin in the hills, where the only sounds are the breeze through the trees and the occasional hoot of an owl. It’s hard to believe that such seclusion exists so close to town, but that is exactly what Creaky Cabin offers: a serene Scottish hideaway with convenience at your doorstep.

Whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway, a solo retreat, or just a base to explore Argyll and the Isles, Creaky Cabin is the perfect choice.
We’ve worked hard to create an inviting, home-away-from-home experience. Our goal is for you to feel at home from the moment you arrive and to enjoy a memorable stay in Oban. Book your stay at Creaky Cabin and experience the magic of a highland cabin retreat that’s secluded yet wonderfully close to the action. We look forward to hosting you!

Mull chalet, Isle of Seil, By Oban, Argyll
Cabin
Argyll and Bute Council

The Isle of Seil has been connected to the Scottish mainland since 1792 by the famous ‘Bridge Over the Atlantic’. Although it is only a 25 minute drive from the bustling town of Oban, it has the feel and peace of a Hebridean island, without the hassle of having to catch a ferry. It is the perfect place to unwind, whilst offering lots to do nearby.

The space
Mull chalet sits in a group of just seven chalets, with uninterrupted views across Balvicar Bay to Ardmaddy on the mainland. A perfect place to while away the hours watching the boats and the tides come and go, whilst looking out for passing wildlife (deer, pheasants and pine martens are all in the area). Bird watchers can look out for white tailed eagles that nest on the nearby island of Scarba.

Mull is a detached chalet, owned since 2007 by Clare & Nigel, who used it as their holiday home until they moved to Seil permanently in 2021. The chalet therefore, has many personal touches that you might not find elsewhere.

The chalet has an open plan living / dining room with a fully equipped kitchen area off. There are two cosy bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other, twin beds. There is free Wi-Fi, a Freesat TV and a DVD player with a selection of DVDs. There is an outside decking area, with chairs to sit and admire the view.

Guest access
Mull chalet is set in it's own garden ground, with off-street parking to the side of the chalet, that can fit 2 cars. There is a shared walkway down to the shore, where it is possible to launch kayaks or paddle boards.

Other things to note
There is a well-stocked local shop on the island in Balvicar, less than a mile from the chalet. Fresh locally baked bread, cakes & pastries are delivered daily. A local smokehouse, Alba Seafood, delivers their smoked salmon and fresh scallops weekly. There is also supplies of local venison, lamb and beef.

For supermarkets and other shopping, Oban is just 20 minutes away, where you will find Tesco, Aldi, Lidl & an M & S Foodstore.

Seafari and Sealife Adventures both operate wildlife boat trips from the island that includes a visit to the 3rd largest whirlpool in the world - the Corryvwrekan. It is advised to book these trips in advance, as they are very popular, especially in peak season.

There are 2 pubs on the island, at opposite ends. The first on you come to on crossing the bridge is the Tigh an Truish (Gaelic for House of the Trousers), dating from the 1700s, where, following the Jacobite rebellion, the islanders had to change out of their kilts into trousers when visiting the mainland, . As well as bar meals, there is an excellent restaurant and it is wise to book the latter.

At the other end of the island is the Oyster Bar, in Ellenabeich which serves meals of locally sourced produce, especially seafood.

For golfers, there is a 9 hole golf course just a mile away. Golf clubs can be hired from the village shop.

There are 2 more islands just off Seil that are worth a visit. Tiny Easdale Island can be reached by foot passenger ferry, where there is The Puffer cafe/restaurant and an interesting museum. You can try your hand at stone skimming in the very quarry where the World Championships are held in September. The island of Luing can be reached by car ferry from Cuan Ferry. The Atlantic Centre in Cullipool has a cafe, gift shop & small museum.
