Watch the daily deer & fawn parade, or the swallowtails happily fluttering from flowering tree to flowering bush on this 1.79-acre property. Bunnies, squirrels, and turtles are also residents and birds are abundant. An easy .5-mile hike down to the Eno River on a lovely, wooded path is just one of many walks in this friendly neighborhood. Durham is the perfect destination for exploring historical sights, biking, kayaking, bird watching, pickleball, golf, fine and casual dining and to enjoy boutique shopping downtown. It is only 1.7 miles to area restaurants, Starbucks, Grocery and Drug Stores. The Cottage was built in 1951 and has been recently updated to feel fresh and new. Kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space. With 1768 sq' of open indoor space and 610 sq' of covered outdoor space on 1.69 acres there's room to be together or spread out. Surrounded by nature nestled in the trees and only 1/10 of a mile from the Rolling View Rec Area gates. Bring your boat, bring your bikes, bring your fishing pole and don't forget your swim suit! Hiking trails are a plenty with the "Sea to Mountain Trail" running directly behind the property and lots of other trails at Rolling View. Rent boats, paddle boards and canoes at Rolling View Marina. When the day is done come back and relax in the saltwater hot tub or hang out on the best screened porch ever!

The cottage has an open floor plan. Where the kitchen can see the living area and the dining area and living and dining areas can see the kitchen, but not a direct view from the dining to the living area. So...open but separate.

The kitchen has a huge island where folks can gather around and still be out of the kitchen action. It is fully equipped to make a gourmet meal with enough counter space for the Chef, the Sous Chef and the Bartender.

The game room is a multifunctional area. It can serve as a quiet area to curl up and read or watch a movie. It can be high action with one of the many games available. It can also be a place to set up your computer on the desk and get some work done.

Each bedroom boasts a high quality premium mattress. Hotel quality sheets, various pillows and layers of covers to snuggle up in. Reading lamps, charging cubes and sound machine are all close by on the bedside table. With room darkening curtains and overhead fan, there is nothing to get in the way of a good nights sleep. Empty closets (except for your robes) with plenty of hangers and empty dressers, so you will have lots of room to store your clothes and belongings.

Each bathroom has 4 sets of large luxurious towels. Soaps, shampoo, conditioner and hairdryer are all available. You will also find plenty of toilet paper and extra toiletries.

Last but not least the screened porch. A 450 sq' outdoor living room with the most comfortable chair swings, a twin size swinging bed and multiple other seating choices. The locally made table and benches comfortably seat 6. A 64" ceiling fan and recessed lighting only add to the experience. Grab your cup of coffee, sit in the chair swing and watch the sun rise. I promise you will leave with a bad case of porch envy...lol

This is a rural area. So drive slowly the chickens may be crossing the road. There is lots of wildlife and woods to see and explore. Folks out here are quiet and friendly, but pretty much keep to themselves. Nights are full of stars, sounds of crickets and the occasional owl. Rob and I are building our forever home next-door 450 ft. away. It will be completed in the summer of 2023. That’s how much we love it out here. You will need a car and the grocery store is 5 miles away. Downtown Durham is 11 miles away. Downtown Raleigh is 16.1 miles away.

This 1949 Spartan Aircraft Trailer is a post-war slice of Americana. There’s just a feeling of connecting to the simpler things in life, and a connection to an era gone by. Detail and quality were at the forefront of manufacturing in the USA during this time at the dawn of the 50’s. It’s a surviving trailer, 80% original. Some modern upgrades and updating have been done but you are very much stepping straight into the past when you enter this Spartan and it’s rural residential surroundings.

Individual use enclosed locking Toilet and Shower Facilities are outdoors, in shared spaces. The common area also includes a Fire Pit, Picnic Tables, Gas Grill, and Laundry Room. The Back Yard setting has strung lighting above and walking paths. The camper itself has running water at the kitchen sink. Please remember you’re camping. the camper is equipped with a dual hot plate, Convection Oven, and small Refrigerator. Some closets and cabinets are empty for guest to use. We are working on restoring this survivor in between guests so it’s not perfect yet, but already has great vibes :-)

Parking is off street on a private drive that leads to the campers.

The neighborhood is Rural Residential meaning we are close to downtown Durham. but with the feeling of being in a rural area with neighbors a stones throw away. The neighbors are a wide variety of folks who are nice and helpful, but little to no interaction with the neighbors is likely. We are within a five minute drive to the Durham city center with theaters, breweries, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, live music venues, and all services. We are about 20min from RDU Airport, 15min from RTP, 10 min to Duke Hospital and Campus.

Uber is available, and Durham DATA bus line runs out front of the main house.

I’ve had years of extensive allergy shots and been allergic my whole life with swelling eyes, sinus infections and shortness of breath due to spaces where animals have been. Rural Residential Camping in a 1967 Scotty Camper! It’s a Vintage Survivor that has a cool vibe. We have built a common bathroom and enclosed outdoor shower for the camper guests to use. Free common area Laundry Room is open 10am-10pm. This camper does not have a kitchen, only a toaster oven, coffee maker and small fridge. It does have Wi-fi, outdoor gas grill with a gas cooktop range on the side. The fire pit is for all to enjoy.

Our back yard space is becoming a cool little retro campground with a 50’s - 60‘s flare. Fire pit and patio with furniture. Each Camper has one assigned parking space not next to the campers, but off-street out front of the main house.

Rural Residential describes the area. Our neighbors are friendly standard issue Durham rural folk. They are old-school southerners who grew up on the land which is now divided into several properties. Plenty friendly and sweet. Follow parking instructions so we don't block access to their driveway.

You must have a car or organize Uber or Taxi to reach the heart of downtown Durham in about 7 minutes.

Guest access
This stay is not for uptights and you will see spiders, mosquitos, moths... more outside than inside but they do come inside from time to time and I want my guests to be well aware before booking. Also, if you have any physical limitations, going up the ladder-like staircase may prove difficult or impossible. There is a click-down sofa bed downstairs where one person may sleep. Please look at the photos carefully so there is no misunderstanding.

Our sleeping loft offers a queensize bed. So it’ s recommended for one or two people.

Additionally the cozy cottage comes with two rockers and a small table on a quaint wrap-around porch. The yard features are a fire pit and a simple charcoal-grill, Cutlery and dishes are on site. Less then one mile away you can find Walmart Supercenter, Dollar Tree.

If you like to hang out you’ll find the Fullsteam Brewery, Motorco Music Hall, the Surf Club and the Geer Street Garden and c and the best coffee shop in Durham county called Cocoa Cinnamon near by down the street about 3 minutes towards downtown. Falls Lake Recreation Area is just a few miles more into the country

We call our place 'Ohana" from Hawaiian culture, meaning a "person's extended family. Feel "at home" staying in our cozy cottage home with super comfy beds to crash in. Located in a fabulous area NEAR EVERYTHING. Work from home, or just unwind and relax at front porch or at the fenced backyard.

The space
This cottage home is located at historic Durham. Walk conveniently from our private parking- right in front of the house entrance. The parking area can accommodate up to 4 cars. Gorgeous inside with new washer/dryer, new refrigerator, full kitchen with breakfast bar, microwave, toaster, and small air fryer. We use Chlorox and Lysol to clean the house and routinely ran a commercial grade air ionizer after each guests.

There are 3 bedrooms. Master's bedroom has a queen bed and its own bathroom; the second room has a full bed, and the 3rd bedroom has a trundle bed (full on top, and twin at the bottom). The second and 3rd room share a full bathroom. You will have access to the full living area, dining, living room, front porch and deck at the back.

There are a lot of fantastic restaurants, historical places, coffee shop, tea house, ice-cream places, breweries, museums, outdoor activities (kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, etc.) and other fun things to do (pool / billiards, axe throwing, retro- arcade games, unique mini-golf courses) which makes Durham really unique.

We're about 10 minutes drive to the famous 55 acre, Sarah P. Duke Gardens. While here, you can visit the nearby beautiful Duke Chapel and hear the 50-bell carillon ring from the chapel each weekday at 5 p.m.

We're also 10 min away to Bennett Place historic Site, site of the largest troop surrender and the effective end of the Civil War. Visit the old outdoor houses, small indoor museum, with short information movie and a gift shop.

Also about 10 minutes away are the abandoned tobacco factories of downtown Durham's Historic District which were transformed into a vibrant and lively get-away full of local stores and diverse restaurants in downtown Durham.

We're about 10 min drive to Duke University and about 20 minute drive to University of North Carolina, about 30-40 minutes to Raleigh area.

Guest access
We have digital locks and you will be provided with a unique guest passcode to enter the house. When leaving the house, just press "Schlage" to lock the door. Making it super easy to check-in/check-out.

Guest will have access to the entire house, including a full kitchen with new appliances and gadgets.

Other things to note
please note that it is adjacent to a busy road. While inside, you’ll enjoy tranquility, but you may hear some traffic noise, especially when the doors are open.

Late Check-Out - Check out at 1:30 PM (standard check-out is 11:00 AM) for an additional fee of $40.

Please help us maintain our flooring. Please remove your shoes before entry if they are muddy and dusty.

Please let us know in advance if you would like to use the outdoor gas grill- for a small additional fee of $45, you can sizzle up your favorite dishes while taking in the fresh air!

ALL guests must be on the reservation, including children. The rate is automatically calculated once you enter in the correct guest count on your reservation. Unauthorized guests not noted in advance on the reservation will be charged a $50 fee per person, per day. No visitors on the property (front yard, back yard, side yard, in the house) without prior approval from host.

Light and cozy, a great place to unwind. Roughly a half mile to Watts Grocery, Monuts, Joe Van Gogh Coffee and Duke's East Campus is just down the road. It's also a stone's throw from the School of Science and Math. Enjoy a walk on the Ellerbee Creek Trail or hop in an lyft/uber for a quick 5-10 minute ride to downtown to enjoy the evening night life! 5-8 min from Duke Hospital, Sarah P. Duke Gardens and more.

Or stay home and enjoy relaxing on the back porch or in the garden area!

The space
Cozy post-war cottage in a friendly neighborhood. Lots of dog walkers, runners, and lots of old trees hang over the streets. Beautiful hardwood floors inside, nice natural light . Enjoy the back porch and patio table to eat outside overlooking an incredibly huge sycamore out back amidst a garden or sit inside the breakfast nook while enjoying your morning coffee.

Feel like taking a walk? We are a 1/2 mile from lots of little spots to eat on/near Broad St. (Monuts, Joe Van Gogh coffee, Oval Park Grill), or stroll over to Ninth Street to find a ton more. Or take a slightly longer walk to Duke's east campus to use their path around the school. The School of Science and Math is within walking distance. Enjoy the parks at Oval Park and the Ellerbee Creek trail - all within a stones throw. Golfer? We are close to that too!

Other things to note
I have allotted a budget for the month in terms of utilities and if you or your guests go over this amount, I will ask you to please cover the difference. Happy to discuss the amount, but generally if it's over $100 per power, water, gas, etc..

Kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space. Surrounded by nature nestled in the trees and only 1/10 of a mile from the Rolling View Rec Area gates. Bring your boat, your fishing pole and don't forget your swim suit! Hiking trails are a plenty with the "Sea to Mountain Trail" running directly behind the property. Rent boats, paddle boards and canoes at the Rolling View Marina. When the day is done come back and relax in the saltwater hot tub or hang out on the best screened porch ever!

The space
The cottage has an open plan. Where the kitchen can see the living area and the dining area and living and dining areas can see the kitchen, but not a direct view from the dining to the living area. So...open but separate.

The WiFi is excellent! 5G internet is very fast and makes everything run smooth at once. Airbnb's internet speed test does not accurately measure 5G.

The kitchen has a huge island where folks can gather around and still be out of the kitchen action. It is fully equipped to make a gourmet meal with enough counter space for the Chef, the Sous Chef and the Bartender.

The game room is a multifunctional area. It can serve as a quiet area to curl up and read or watch a movie. It can be high action with one of the many games available. It can also be a place to set up your computer on the desk and get some work done.

Each bedroom boasts a high quality premium mattress. Hotel quality sheets, various pillows and layers of covers to snuggle up in. Reading lamps, charging cubes and sound machine are all close by on the bedside table. With room darkening curtains and overhead fan, there is nothing to get in the way of a good nights sleep. Empty closets (except for your robes) with plenty of hangers and empty dressers, so you will have lots of room to store your clothes and belongings.

Each bathroom has 4 sets of large luxurious towels. Soaps, shampoo, conditioner and hairdryer are all available. You will also find plenty of toilet paper and extra toiletries.

Last but not least the screened porch. A 450 sq' outdoor living room with the most comfortable chair swings, a twin size swinging bed and multiple other seating choices. The locally made table and benches comfortably seat 6. A 64" ceiling fan and recessed lighting only add to the experience. Grab your cup of coffee, sit in the chair swing and watch the sun rise. I promise you will leave with a bad case of porch envy...lol

Guest access
You will have your own private code for the front door. Guests will have access to all parts of the cottage and property except for a few locked cabinets that we will have marked as the owners' cabinets. The work-shed and fenced in lean-to belongs to Rob. I had to give him somewhere to work to keep the place looking great. ;)

Other things to note
The land is beautiful and the peacefulness was just what we were looking for. Far enough away to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to enjoy what the city has to offer. The lake is about 800 ft from the house. There is a marked trail to the lake and the Mountain to Sea trail. Falls Lake is a protected lake and is surrounded by the Army Corp of Engineers. At our proximity to the lake it is about a 200 ft band between our property and the lake. It is all open to enjoy. There are several access points, beaches, fishing piers and boat launches around the lake. The closest being Rolling View State Recreational Park. The gates to the park are just 1/10 of a mile from the house. The closest boat launch is 1 mile away at Rolling View Marina.

Our new home is 500 ft. from the cottage on a separate piece of land and private driveway. We are always available, but will always respect your privacy.

We bought the 8 acres of land in 2020 to build our forever home. Included in the purchase of the property was an old double wide. Wanting to approach it in the most sustainable way, we chose to totally renovate and remodel rather than totally demolish and have it end up in the land fill. Building a new construction guest house would have also made a larger carbon footprint than a total do over. After 2 years of a total gut job and a lot of hard work we are proud to offer our home away from home. Rob and I hope you will enjoy it as much as we have and still do!
