The Aurora is a free standing home in the heart of Grand Marais near the harbor. Designed by celebrated Minnesota architect David Salmela and newly constructed in 2018/19. The Writer's Cabin is a quaint, long established residence hidden in the oldest part of town. It has been fully restored and modernized to provide all the creature comforts and yet remain historic in nature. This is an original "Tiny home" as it was originally constructed nearly 100 years ago. We did expand the bath to accommodate the jacuzzi, and we raised the ceilings and brightened the entire cabin. A sauna is available on a first come first serve basis for an additional fee. Contact us for details. The Writer's Cabin is set amidst lush landscaping for privacy, and the cabin is only steps from the harbor. All amenities are provided including an enameled cast iron gas fireplace, a therapeutic air tub for two, a queen bed, a well equipped modern kitchen with oven and stove, smart Roku TV, an antique secretary writing desk, high speed wireless internet (best in town), and various objects of interest representative of famous writers and local writers including locally written books and Ernest Hemmingway's favorite model of typewriter. A sauna is available for a fee on a first come first serve basis and all info on it can be found on our web site or inquire with us here. Attention Air BnB guests: If you paid the dog fee through Air BnB it only covers one dog, you will be responsible to contact the cabin owner to pay for any 2nd dog. We do not recommend more than 2 guests in the Writer's Cabin, it has one queen bed and one non fold out sofa. The base rate included 2 guests and additional guests are $30 per guest up to 3 maximum. 4 guests are possible but it is going to be crowded. Dogs are $100 per dog with a maximum of 2 dogs. The property is kept exceptionally clean and we try to remove all evidence of dog hair between stays. Our cleaners work very hard to remove all evidence of dogs and that takes time and effort and we appreciate anything you can do to help.

We are not on a busy street or on highway 61. You are perfectly positioned to discover the town and participate in the small town buzz.

The outdoor space has a balanced blend of sun and shade, functionality and whimsicality. This is a space intended as an exclusive retreat from the rigors of small town life. It is designed so that you can be as private as your vacation requires. Dense shrubs, apple trees and tall fences ensure your own seclusion. The feeling is that of a secret retreat just off the main avenues.

We love dogs. Dogs are allowed at this property with your acceptance of our dog rules and payment of the fee. No dogs under 1 year old. Each pet fee is good for one dog. $100 per dog per stay and it is the guest's responsibility to ensure payment of the fee and to be familiar with our dog rules. No cats or other creatures :-). Dogs are not allowed on furniture without a fresh, clean blanket that you provide that they can not scratch away. Dogs must be kept in portable kennels if you are not present.

Lastly, we recommend you consider trip insurance- especially in winter, or if you are taking classes that may be cancelled. We have discounted our rates on our direct website by an additional 7% (the total savings between our direct site and say... another famous site is now 14-21% but only if you book on our direct site). The 'Lighthouse' is a special lodging overlooking the town and harbor of Grand Marais from its center. You are right in the heart of town within a block of everything- yet comfortably removed when you need a breather. You can sit up in bed and view the harbor and the big lake beyond. If you would like to access the sauna please contact the owners in advance or book it yourself on our website and set up a reservation- it is an add on expense and is first come first serve. Total is $49 per night plus tax and it is booked on our direct site. November and April have sauna specials- please go to the sauna listing to see those. At the Lighthouse there is covered parking that leads to a stairway that takes you up to the Lighthouse. The view of the old harbor from the balcony is stunning. There is a wrought iron table and chairs on the balcony for relaxing. Inside the Lighthouse you will find a queen bed, tile shower and bathroom, galley kitchen, custom dining table for two, LCD TV (please bring your own streaming codes, there is no cable or area broadcast content). The bed is set at an angle and faces southeast to capture the views of the harbor in the morning through large windows. Many of our guests yearn for a connection with nature, the lake, the community, a reconnection with each other, and permission to come to a full stop for deep rest. There are transom windows around the perimeter of the apartment that let in light from all points on the compass but do not compromise privacy. Eye masks are provided for those that want to sleep in :-). Notice how the light changes as the day progresses. Observe the color differences around sunset or early in the morning as the Great Lake passes through its moods. The ceiling is very high and is vaulted and timberframed with unique 'Dragon Beams' from local timberframe artisans. Topping the lighthouse is an octagonal lighthouse cupola that lets light in all day and moonlight at night and contains a genuine ships lantern that you can switch on from the bed. And on top of the cuppola is a custom copper ball, in keeping with the lighthouses of the North Shore. The antique ship's light that occupies the cuppola can guide you as you walk home after a night of festivities in the town. There is an all cedar Finnish Sauna next door to the Lighthouse for your exclusive use for an additional fee. Usage comes with robes and additional towels and complete instructions. Sorry about this but we have your reasons it’s not that we don’t like dogs or kids. That’s not it. We are doing no less than six night stays.

Grounds and property are lovely, the view of the lake is awesome, and the house is clean, comfortable and well-appointed with many amenities. The one thing I would suggest is to upkeep the lawn mowing on the path down to the cove- it was very overgrown and hard to navigate. The cove is a special spot and highlight of this property!"

By design, the Sky House provides for all the needs of a vacationing party of up to 6 people in a 1264 Sq. Ft. home but 4 people are ideal. We are a dog friendly stay with the payment of the appropriate fee and understanding of the rules. The Sky House provides an inspiring, modern space that allows for privacy among those sharing the lodging, and also provides a breathtaking great room area on the top floor with fantastic views of the Grand Marais harbor, the neighborhood, and the town. Everything is in short walking distance from our micro community right in the heart of Grand Marais. Every restaurant, bar, coffee shop, gallery, and Grand Marais' famous beach are all a very short stroll from this private residence. The home is designed in modern Nordic fashion. The design is contextual architecture that completes a timeline of Scandinavian and Nordic design that the owners began on the property next door that also honored northern buildings in the roots of their designs. There is off street parking under a sod roofed carport. There is also an electric car charging station in the car port. Walk up to the entry area and pass under the arch to the first of 3 decks where there is room to store bikes in summer, and once inside, there is plenty of room to shake off the snow, hang the coats and set down the skis or snowshoes. Each bedroom is very private is separated from the other by a soundproofed floor and ceiling for maximum privacy. Each bedroom also has its own restroom with shower, work station, free standing closet, queen bed, and balcony or patio with great views for getting away from the group. Continuing up the inspiring staircase leads you to the primary gathering area on the top floor. This area is breathtaking with its expansive windows, view of the town and harbor, Lake Superior and the grounds. It is simply the best view from a lodging in Grand Marais. There is a fully modern and capable kitchen, an architect designed built in sofa for single sleepers, and a contemporary gas fireplace. The sofa can sleep one adult or two children as is, or it can be modified to sleep one adult above and one adult on floor cushions. Note the unique skylight with natural light filtering treatments and the push button electronic pop up television that you can leave hidden if you wish. There is also a wrap around deck on this top level with fantastic view of the rooftops and harbor and the town and of course Lake Superior. There is a utility room with full size washer and dryer. Everything about the Sky House is designed with environmental sustainability in mind. These homes have an incredibly small footprint both structurally and environmentally. The foundations were designed to take up as little of the yard as possible- by being small at the start and increasing as you go up just like the old Stabur upon which this design is based. No cost has been spared to make the Sky House the highest quality, most significant architectural addition to Grand Marais' beautiful landscape. Our very spacious lodging was originally built as an artists studio. We kept the open concept with amazing sky lights and lighting in the kitchen and shower room. Windows in the front of the studio face Lake Superior. Sleeping space is separated from dining and living space. In addition, the shower room is separated from the toilet room to accommodate better usage of facilities. Deck on the Lake is available to guests.

Recently added is an electric fireplace for that comfy feeling after a long day hiking or other outside activities.

I am pet friendly. Pets must be kenneled if left alone at all. You must provide your own kennel. Please relieve your dogs often to avoid accidents on my carpets. I charge $100 for damage fee for any and all urine accidents.

We have a kitchen with stove and oven. We also have provided a Keurig coffee maker, a hot water pot, an electric fry pan, microwave, instant pot, and refrigerator.

WiFi is available but no tv service.

Ideally located on Cascade Beach Road halfway between Lutsen and Grand Marais, this vintage 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom cabin was built in 1938 and updated in 2019 to add modern conveniences to this quaint retreat's original charm and character. A large wood burning fireplace constructed from hand- picked stones from the property’s stunning shoreline is the focal point of this comfortable cottage that sleeps four. Recent updates include: fully remodeled bathrooms and kitchen complete with all new appliances, including a dishwasher, an expansive multi-level deck modeled after the original deck built in the 1930's. Adding to the historical significance of this vintage cabin is the re-use of white pine harvested from the Old Globe Grain Elevator in Superior, Wisconsin. Half of the cabin's interior walls, along with several meticulously hand- crafted pieces of furniture, use the nearly 200 year old Old Globe Elevator white pine - check out the many Old Globe Elevator photographs framed with Old Globe white pine. Superior Sanctuary is a beautiful, updated and spacious townhome, offering 1800 sq ft. and 2 levels to unwind in comfort. This romantic lakeside home overlooks Lake Superior from atop a 25 foot cliff, offering gorgeous views from both levels, two large decks and a truly peaceful setting. A seasonal staircase (approx Memorial Day to Labor Day) provides access to a 600' shared pebble beach for agate hunting on one end of the property, with overlooks, majestic shoreline boulders and ledge rock on the other.

Enjoy the large, well-appointed full kitchen with its massive island, corian countertops and new(er) stainless steel appliances. Relax in the cozy recliners around the living room stone fireplace, watching the lake. Listen to the waves from the wonderful master bedroom ensuite, with its gas fireplace, large jacuzzi tub, private bathroom and deck. The charming second bedroom offers 2 twin beds, with another full bathroom across the hall. The main level den, with sliding glass doors, provides another private space for work and a sleep sofa. A third bathroom (half) is next to the den. Located between Tofte and Lutsen, and only 20-25 minutes from Grand Marais, the central location provides the perfect base for enjoying all the North Shore has to offer! Beautiful State Parks, world-class hiking, the best skiing in the Midwest (both downhill skiing and cross country), biking (both paved trails and mountain biking), waterfalls, fishing and golf, as well as a variety of wonderful restaurants (7+), live music, shopping, grocery stores and the North Shore Winery are ALL within 5-10 minutes. The Gitchi Gami State Bike Trail runs across the driveway, making it easy to bike or walk for miles, including to the shops, beautiful shoreline and restaurants at Bluefin Bay (3 mi) or Lutsen Resort (4.5 mi), or to Temperance River State Park (5.5 mi).

Whether you’re enjoying coffee overlooking the lake, a glass of wine on the deck as kayakers glide past or watching the sea gulls in the afternoon, there’s nothing more relaxing. This is a 1 bed, 1 bath cabin with a full bed and small kitchen with basic necessities. There’s dining table with chairs and 2 comfortable chairs for relaxing. Outside there’s a deck with a table and chairs, along with a charcoal grill.

The steps take you down to the cobblestone beach where you can search for agates or read a book. An evening campfire on the shore gazing at the stars is the perfect way to end the day. This is a great rental combination with Superior Reflections 1 and 3 to relax and enjoy the beautiful north woods.

Across the highway is the Gitchi Gami bike trail. Temperance River State Park is practically in our backyard with miles of hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls. Nearby you will find Cross River, Father Baraga’s Cross, and the Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center. The Schroeder Bakery is a great place to start your day with a coffee, breakfast sandwiches and bakery. After a day of hiking you could stop for a malt or pizza.

This is a seasonal cabin open May through October. Pets are welcome with prior approval and an additional fee, 2 pet maximum. Due to the location on the shore and season, water may taste salty. We provide drinking water for you.

In addition, the Horizon provides an inspiring modern space that allows for privacy among those sharing the lodging, and also provides a breathtaking great room area on the top floor with fantastic views of the Grand Marais harbor, the neighborhood, and the town. Everything is in short walking distance from our little micro community in the heart of Grand Marais. Every restaurant, bar, coffee shop, gallery and Grand Marais' famous beach are all within a very short stroll from your private residence. The home is designed in modern Nordic fashion based on the original Stabur design- a work building commonly seen in Northern Europe. This design culminates a timeline of Scandinavian and Nordic design that the owners began on the property next door that also honored northern work buildings in the roots of their designs. There is off street parking under a sod roofed carport. There is also an electric car charging station in the car port. Walk up to the entry area and pass under the nordic arch to the first of 3 decks where there is room to store bikes in summer, and once inside, there is plenty of room to shake off the snow, hang the coats and set down the skis or snowshoes. Each bedroom is very private is separated from the other by a soundproofed floor and ceiling for maximum privacy. Each bedroom also has its own restroom with shower, work station, free standing closet, queen bed, and balcony or patio with great views for getting away from the group. Continuing up the inspiring staircase leads you to the primary gathering area on the top floor. This area is breathtaking with its expansive windows, view of the town and harbor, Lake Superior and the grounds. There is a fully modern and capable kitchen, an architect designed built in sofa for single sleepers, and a contemporary gas fireplace. The sofa can sleep one adult or two children as is, or it can be modified to sleep one adult above and one adult on floor cushions. Note the unique skylight with modern light treatments and the push button electronic pop up television that you can leave hidden if you wish. There is also a wrap around deck on this top level with fantastic view of the rooftops and harbor and the town and of course Lake Superior. There is a utility room with full size washer and dryer. Like most traditional camper cabins, we provide a warm, dry place to sleep and relax, share a board game or a meal. There is no running water or kitchen, but a grill and fire pit are provided for guests. A clean and well-lit outhouse is located near the cabin. Some drinking water is provided but we recommend you bring additional water. Showers are available at the local YMCA for $13 or at the municipal campground in Grand Marais. The Camper Cabin DOES have electricity and heat. We like to compare our experience to camping but with a solid roof over your head and a comfy bed. Guests must bring their own linens.

Blueberry Hill is a custom-built heated Tiny Home located on 8 acres of private land with easy access on a well-maintained private road just off of Hwy 61 in Hovland, MN. The tiny home has two comfortable sleeping areas both overlooking Lake Superior. The loft has a queen mattress, and the lower area has a 7-foot-long padded bench. All electricity is supplied by solar panels mounted on the roof that keep the lights, and outlets, and mini fridge supplied. The Tiny Home is 8.5' wide and 20' long.

The space
Interesting locations nearby include the mysterious Devils Kettle Falls in C.R. Magney State Park, The Historic Hovland Dock, High Falls on the Canadian border, the Kadunce River, the Arrowhead Trail, Paradise Beach, the City of Grand Marais, and many more!

The newly constructed outhouse and deck overlooking Lake Superior are open for use. While there is no running water on the property there is a sink with an electric faucet that can be used by filling a container under the sink. This is an off grid stay perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature, with an abundance of wild blueberries (when in season) that would make for the perfect fresh blueberries on your morning cereal.

The space
Sea of Green: Cabin is located on a working homesteaded property surrounded by the Superior National Forest on all sides. There are about 2 miles of private trails that hook into county and forest service trails, giving users access to the entire county. Hiking, walking, running, biking, ATV, snowmobiling---we've got it all.

The cabin looks over the Superior National Forest for endless miles (nothing but trees as far as the eye can see).

We are located 18 miles from Grand Marais, MN "America's Coolest Small Town." There you will find shopping, groceries, and restaurants. Traveling further up the historic Gunflint Scenic Byway, there is access to the BWCA, hiking trails, and a plethora of lakes to swim, enjoy, or fish.

The cabin has a wood stove for chilly nights, battery and solar lights, and commercial water cooler (room temperature only) provided. Dishes and linens are also provided, along with a charcoal and propane grill with side burner.

Driveway is located 3 miles from paved road. Two miles of regular gravel road, approximately 1.5 miles of rougher dirt road. Leave the low, fancy cars at home.

Please make sure you have read and understand that this is an amazing and unique glamping experience. There is a wood stove for heat on chilly nights, an outhouse, battery lights, and a propane grill and burner outside for cooking.

The driveway is described by our city friends as "an adventure." It is 2 miles on a dirt road, along with 1.5 miles of rougher road.

This gorgeous studio can accommodate four guests but note that two would be sleeping on the full-sized futon. This studio is best suited for a family with children rather than four adults. Children would need to share a full-sized futon.

There's also a clean, cute outhouse with 30 feet of the cabin (with heat lamp linked to a flip switch inside the cabin and yoga-mat toilet seat to prevent a frozen bum during the wintertime!).

There isn't any running water inside the cabin, but you can collect water from the well. It's a natural artesian well with an easy on/off button. It has been approved for drinking and is available year-round.
There are refillable 2-gallon water jugs serving as a faucet over the kitchen sink making it easy to clean dishes/self-wash etc. It empties into a “gray-water” bucket under the sink which can be dumped when full. There’s a plastic tub for easy self-cleaning, and water heats up very quickly in the electric kettle.

There isn't a cleaner - You are the cleaner (which saves you on cleaning fees and allows you to check out later than usual!), so you're agreeing to:

Aspenwood 6538 on Lake Superior is centrally located and close to many North Shore attractions. From skiing in the winter to golfing in the warmer months, the best downhill ski resort and golf course in Minnesota are within minutes. Shopping can be found in the nearby towns of Lutsen and Grand Marais. And when it comes to hiking, biking, fishing, and other outdoor adventures, the possibilities are endless.

It's a great spot to venture out, whether it be hiking up one of the nearby waterfalls, going for a paddle, wetting a fishing line, discovering a secluded swimming hole, or enjoying some of the wonderful eateries in town.
