Set on a large plot with park like gardens all around, this spacious family friendly home really is a home away from home. In summer you'll spend all your time outside relaxing poolside, and in winter you can cosy up inside with the fire going and enjoy a nice warm spa.

The generous master bedroom features an ensuite and small changing area. The other 3 double bedrooms have direct sliding door access out to the deck which captures the morning sun and is a great spot to have your morning coffee.

A generous lounge and dining room with ornate high ceilings connects to a family sized kitchen. Directly off the kitchen is an outside entertaining area which looks out over the pool, spa and gardens. The pool is a solar heated salt water 12m x 20m pool, so plenty of space for all the family to enjoy splashing around in the pool during the summer months! Shallow end is waist deep on an average adult and the deep end is shoulder deep.

Fully appointed bathroom with separate bath as well as an additional toilet, mud room and laundry room. There is a log burning fireplace located centrally in the hallway as well as heat pumps in both the hallway and lounge.

The Old Shepherd is located 8km north of Masterton on our family farm. In 2023 we celebrated being here for 100 years.

Standing on the front step, you can see the La Gra Vineyard and just beyond the old red barn is Wingate Lane which offers casual dining Tues-Sun. Only 15 minutes up the road is the Pukaha Mt Bruce National Wildlife Centre, home to endangered wildlife such as brown kiwi, whio (blue duck), takahē, kōkako, kākā and tuna (longfin eels).

There is a cooker so that you can make yourself a brew (tea, coffee and milo provided) and an icebox for your food and beverages.

Just behind the hut, the modern outhouse is equipped with a flushed loo and a hot gas shower. We provide your linen and towels.

Come with your phones charged as there is no electricity. We are open Oct-April and provide a starter pack for the brazier but if you are wanting to sit outside all evening, we recommend that you bring some extra wood.

Quiet - 7 minute walk to town it is a fantastic location.
We live out of town and can spend the odd night during the week in a detached apartment on the left in the main picture.

The bed is on a mezzanine with easy, stair access. The tiny home opens onto a covered deck with views front and back. The toilet is a water-conscious, off grid and very 21st century compostable loo (over time, all donations are gratefully received in the olive grove!) There is a friendly collie x who loves people to throw him his ball.

You will find a separate entrance from the street which leads you down a meandering path to the door.

Everything you could possibly need for your stay is there.

All toiletries are supplied i.e. shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There are also shower caps, cleansing wipes and a hair dryer.

Cooking is a breeze with a combined microwave/convection oven, an induction hob and the added convenience of an electric fry pan. A full range of coffees and teas are available and milk is provided.

Newly renovated luxury villa right in the middle of Masterton city. This is a bright and sunny house with three rooms, a kitchen and a open plan living area. Walking distance to most amenities including bistros, cafes, petrol stations and supermarket.

The space
The house can sleep 6 adults and 2 children as the second bedroom has a set of bunk beds for the children. There are two sofa beds in the living area which are easy to set up, if required, for two people.
All bedrooms and the living area have heaters installed. There are two heat pumps in the house to keep you warm and toasty. Big wardrobes are provided in all rooms.
All linen is provided for your comfort. Shampoo and soap are provided in the bathroom and shower.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, dishwasher, full fridge, freezer, gas hob and oven. Plates, glasses and cutlery are also provided with basic cooking pots and pans. We also have tea, coffee, sugar and hot chocolate on the kitchen bench for you. Milk is provided in the fridge for you to make a cuppa and relax!

There are some small walking tracks to take you around the QE ll Trust wetland and ponds, and for those that are a little more energetic a walk to the top of the hill can provide you with stunning views.

The space
Our home is located in a quiet rural area just 7 minutes by car from Masterton, New Zealand. With a partial view of the Tararua Ranges and with a working farm just over the fence, our home offers a fabulous rural outlook.
The home features three bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a king bed and adjoining ensuite bathroom, bedroom 2 has a queen bed, and bedroom 3, the smaller room, has a king single bed and a single trundler. These bedrooms share the main bathroom consisting of separate shower and bath.
The living room is spacious and has a freestanding fireplace, perfect for cozying up on a cold winter's night.
The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob, two ovens, two dishdrawer dishwashers, fridge with ice maker - everything you need to cook a delicious meal or if you prefer visit our local vineyard or restaurant.
Should the weather permit, the home has three different patio spaces with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening while taking in the beautiful scenery.

There is full guest access to the main living area, bedrooms and bathrooms. Our office, linen cupboard and master bedroom wardrobe are locked.

In the cooler months wood is provided for the freestanding fireplace.
Be aware that we live next to a working farm and after the cows have been grazing close by there can be a distinctive 'cow smell' (usually in the autumn)
We have a black and white cat known as Dodge, who may venture inside. He can be shy and not overly friendly with our visitors and does not sleep inside our house at night, as he has a bed in the garage. Someone will be on site once a day to feed him over at the garage (and water the vegetable garden depending on the season). They will not go anywhere near the house. and will respect your privacy.
Also, we need to advise that with having a vineyard in the area, that in spring time if the temperature gets to frosting the frost fans will be on. To keep the noise to a comfortable level, we close all windows and curtains.
We graze sheep so please respect the need to close any gates that may be opened by you.
Finally, besides the sheep you may see other 'livestock', being in the country there are often rabbits, which Dodge can be know to bring home as a trophy to show off, and very occasionally we see/hear opossums. Inside, although everything has been done to eradicate them, there may be flies, the odd cockroach from our firewood and sometimes spiders. We supply aerosol sprays for your use.
We trust you don't find this a major obstacle and enjoy a '5 star' stay!!
