Welcome to our warm and comfortable holiday home which is located on Taupahi Rd, Turangi. It's the perfect location for fly-fishing, skiing, hiking, biking or just a relaxing weekend by the fire.

The house has an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen which is kept warm by the log-burner fire. The well equipped kitchen has a gas hob, double oven and a well stocked pantry. The three bedrooms have plenty of warm bedding and can sleep up to 6 people.

Enjoy endless hot water from the infinity gas hot water system to warm you up after a day skiing or on the river.

The garden is flat, private and sunny with room to park 2 cars off the street.

This is a pet friendly house. Your well behaved dog is welcome to stay but please note the section is not fully fenced so only suitable for dogs who don't roam. Please enquire about bringing your pet.

There are 3 bedrooms upstairs, each with a Queen sized bed. The third bedroom also contains a bunk bed. There is a single fold out bed and a fold down couch as well, which can be placed anywhere in the house.
The queen beds all have electric blankets for the colder nights and there are 2 single electric blankets and spare blankets in the cupboards.

Bathrooms
There are 2 full bathrooms. One upstairs and one downstairs. The downstairs one has a separate toilet.

Rest of house
Downstairs there is a fully equipped open plan kitchen with oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher as well as a dining area, a breakfast bar, a bar with small tv and a lounge with cozy fireplace.
There is an additional lounge with a large tv and DVD player upstairs.
Please be aware the tv signal is intermittant at times.

We provide bedding incl. linen, towels as well as firewood. There is also a small supply of toilet paper, shower gel, shampoo, dishwashing liquid and dishwashing tabs.

The garage with internal access provides enough room to store your outdoor equipment such as skiis, snowboards, hiking boots etc.
It has lots of dry firewood stored in it for use with the fireplace.

There is some outdoor furniture to spend time in the garden.

We have a small selection of books and games available.

Parking
You can park your car on the property, either under the carport with covered access to the house or in the driveway. There is also plenty of parking space on the side of the road.

Turangi and surroundings
Turangi is located on the Tongariro River which is famous for its trout fishing, river rafting, walks and bike rides.
It is a perfect base for outdoor activities around Mt Ruapehu.
The North Island’s main skiing area (Whakapapa ski field on Mt Ruapehu) is a 45 min drive away,
and the car parks for the world famous Tongariro Crossing are readily accessible in 25-35 minutes.
Many different shuttle services are available or you can drive yourself.

Rapid River Retreat is located in Turangi with the river running along the end of the road.

A short walk to the end of the road will take you to the stunning river trail loop. Here you will find the crystal clear waters of the Tongariro river, the perfect place to catch trout.

This really is the perfect house to enjoy the outdoor paradise that surrounds, nature walks abound and you’re less than an hour from the mountain and 20 minutes from the Tongariro crossing.

- "Our family group (4 adults, 3 kids & a dog) we comfortably catered for in this house. It is a great location near the river (great for dog walks) and Creel Cafe (good coffee & scones!). The yard was fully fenced and our dog loved it. The kids had fun in the hot tub and enjoyed walking to the river & playground. Beds were comfy and the house in general was presentable and had all the facilities we needed. "

There is a large deck for outdoor dining and plenty of off-street parking. In mid to late summer there are 2 large plum trees laden with plums to enjoy, or just sit back and enjoy the views to the surrounding hills any time of the year.

The house is our well used holiday house, its not a flash Air BNB. If you want the Hilton book somewhere else. When you stay, it is yours alone to enjoy. There is a lock box from which you can access the key.

Access to Lake Taupo is 5 min in Tokaanu, which is where you can find the Tokaanu hot pools for a soak and take a short walk around the amazing thermal mud pools with the kids.

The Tongariro river flows past the town with scenic walks along the riverside, bikes are allowed. Nearby is the National Trout Centre where kids can feed the fish and, on some days, maybe even catch one. The nearby Tongariro National Park is a World Heritage Site with stunning volcanic and alpine hikes to enjoy including the famous Tongariro Crossing. Other walks include a walk around the tranquil Lake Rotopounamu, the Waihaha trail in the Pureora forest and the Tama Lakes in the Tongaririo National Park

When the weather turns, Taupo is only a scenic 30 minutes drive with plenty of shops and adventure activities to enjoy.

The space
The two-story house has bedrooms upstairs a bathroom with bath and toilet. The living area is downstairs with a small bathroom containing toilet and shower, laundry area with wishing Machine. The kitchen is full equipped with full range of cooking facilities. A dining area with nice large windows overlooking the lawn. The central fireplace leads to the living area with couches and a tv for relaxing. The living area also has a work desk.
The house has a fully fenced yard and a nice outdoor area for kids and dogs of all sizes.

Your perfect base for the Tongariro Crossing, Kōwhai Hideaway is in a convenient location near the Tongariro River.

Double glazed and with upgraded insulation, Kōwhai Hideaway has a well equipped kitchenette, brand new air conditioning, comfortable beds and a pleasant garden outlook. Tranquility is supreme.

There’s plenty of off street parking in this quiet street.

Kōwhai Hideaway is a ground floor apartment underneath Piwakawaka Lodge. They can be rented together for large groups.

The space
The 2 bedrooms are generously sized, one with queen bed and the other containing 2 king singles, all with electric blankets for a great sleep after your day’s adventures. A portacot is available for use.

The combined living and kitchenette space is compact and outfitted with a small fridge, microwave and benchtop oven plus small appliances allow you to prepare simple meals. Tea and coffee are provided. There is no full size stove.

If the weather permits, cook outside on the stone barbeque and eat alfresco, surrounded by native trees and in serenity.

Heating / cooling is provided by the airconditioner which can be supplemented by panel heaters if required.

Kōwhai Lodge is well away from the state highway and experiences no road noise.

This is an ideal location for the serious (or not so serious) angler with the Hydro Pool at the end of the street, only 150m away, and a fish cleaning bench available should you catch a trout you just have to keep!

If fishing is not your thing, Kōwhai Hideaway is the perfect base for mountain adventures, white water rafting, water sports and biking. The fabulous Tongariro bike trail runs past the back boundary - so easy!

Guest access
You’re welcome to use the washing machine (front loader) and dryer. Reasonable use rules apply.

Wet fishing or snow gear can be hung up to drip dry in the garage.

The garden including BBQ area is available for use but shared with Piwakawaka Lodge.

Guests at Kōwhai Hideaway have no access to the upper storey (Pīwakawaka Lodge) through either the internal or external stairs. Please respect other guests.

Other things to note
Parking
There is room to park 4 vehicles on the property but be aware that parking is shared with Pīwakawaka Lodge. Please be considerate of other guests and do not park in the turning bay at the end of the driveway.

Travelling with Infants and Toddlers
We can supply a portacot for travellers with infants.

For those with children, please be aware that like most properties in this part of Tūrangi, the river is easily accessible and is a drowning hazard.

Provisions
We provide tea and coffee but are unable to provide milk. Please bring your own if you require it.

The property boasts a deck with BBQ that catches morning and afternoon sun and welcomes you into the open plan modern living space.
Located just a 25 min walk to supermarkets, cafes and restaurants. Tokaanu Thermal Baths just a few kilometers down the road and a super treat after a days skiing or walking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, beautiful walks along the Tongariro River and adventurous mountain biking trails are abundant.

PLEASE note the size, it is a tight space so we can welcome travellers on a tight budget, the kitchen facility is a SHARED space.

The space
Studio 6 is part of a larger property including a house, cottage, apartments and studios. We offer a high-end experience and are located right next to the Tongariro River in Turangi.

You will also have access to a separate, SHARED kitchen as well as an outdoor space with BBQ's and Gas Fireplace.

Guest access
You will have access to a SHARED kitchen for tea, coffee and basic meals. We will also have an outdoor space with BBQ's which opens up onto a reserve.

Other things to note
This room is small (12m2 = 3mX4m including the ensuite) and is not suited to guests travelling with large suitcases, excess luggage or for guests not comfortable sharing a kitchen space.

This room is located within our main lodge on a second level and is one of 6 rooms within this part of the building.

If you are wanting more space and private facilities, Studio 1, 2 or 3 may be a better option for you.
