- "Loved my stay here. Everything was beautiful and clean. I'd definitely book again." - "We were lucky Emily had a few days available when we had to adjust our travel plans last minute following Hurricane Gabrielle. This is a nicely decorated and comfortable getaway. It's quite spacious compared to most tiny homes, with no ladders to climb. The bed is comfortable, the shower flow is great and we appreciated the kitchenette and the storage space. The neighbourhood is quiet and full of well-cared-for homes. Emily has even designated a convenient parking spot for visitors. There are no transit busses onto Herald Island, but we found we could take a short Uber ride to a cheap public transit ferry at Hobsonville Point, that takes you right to downtown Auckland. This is a quick and pleasant way to get to the city. If you are arriving at night, as we were, it's hard to see this dark building. It's to the right of the main house, on the road. Once you find the driveway with the street address on the fence, walk about 100 feet to your right along the road and you'll see the tiny home. The home can be warm in hot weather. Emily dropped off a fan when we mentioned it and we were able to keep the place comfortably cool by leaving the blinds down and the back windows open a crack during the daytime. This is a cute place at a great price in what can be an expensive city."

We are 6 minutes via car to Albany and 30 minutes to Auckland CBD. Riverhead Forrest is less than 10 minutes away, and Muriwai Beach is 30 minutes west.

Guests will enjoy private use of the downstairs floor which includes a lounge, bedroom, bathroom and walk in wardrobe. The outside lawn serves as a wonderful peaceful area to sit out and enjoy a morning coffee while watching the sunrise over Rangitoto Island.

There is currently no door that separates the downstairs and upstairs floors however you will have exclusive use of the downstairs with private access from outside during your stay.

***Due to the storms earlier this year there is some damage to the surrounding bush. The house is perfectly safe however there is a strap around the septic tank as a safety measure which crosses the path leading to the entry. Guests must take care when accessing the main entry, photos can be provided.***

- "We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. The space was exactly as described, very spacious and cozy. The owners were kind and helpful, the TV was playing up and wouldn’t connect to the internet and they tried their best to get it working. The only things that need to be noted are that because the property has a septic tank the toilet struggles to flush properly and fills up really high with water before it goes back down and need a double flush, and when we first walked into the bathroom there was a very strong smell from the septic tank that came through the shower drain but went away after using the shower. Also the entrance to the bedroom (where you access the flat) and door handle had a lot of spiders and cobwebs which gave me the heebie jeebies haha but that’s not too bad just needs a wee clean up. Apart from that it was amazing, we had everything we needed and were so comfortable! Their doggie even came down to say hello and we got some good cuddles in which a bonus! Thank you so much!"

They are connected, and you need to walk through the bedroom with the 2x King-Singles, to get to the bedroom with the Queen bed. Located in quiet and serene Kumeu, in a secure gated residence community, this luxurious villa is the perfect place for a family vacation, for up to 11 persons. Welcome to our lovely home in wonderful Riverhead. The private bedroom, located at the front of our house, features a luxury ensuite bathroom. Only a 20min drive from the CBD, within walking distance to Hallertau Brewery and the historical Riverhead Tavern, and a short drive to the many wineries around Kumeu.

The large room captures the morning sun, and stays warm and dry throughout the day thanks to the modern central heating system and double-glazed windows. The room features a small table with chairs, a minibar fridge, and opens to an outdoor courtyard with table and chairs - perfect for the summer season.

Please note there is a bar fridge and kettle in the room but no kitchen or laundry facilities.

Planning a wedding in the West ? Too tired to drive after the West wineries tour? Attending events in the Kumeu area ? Golfing at Muriwai ? We are less than 5 minutes (by car) from the excellent Riverhead Tavern or Hallertau Brewery. Kumeu and Albany villages are less than 15 minutes away.

The space
Our sunny loft is on the mezzanine floor at the northern end of our huge barn. It has its own separate entrance, and the room has large bifold doors opening out to a large deck. There's an outdoor dining suite so you can enjoy your meals alfresco overlooking the upper Waitemata Harbour.

It is self contained with a kitchenette complete with large fridge, kitchen bench, microwave, benchtop oven and grill, plus electric frying pan, toaster and electric jug. We supply tea and coffee along with supplies for a simple breakfast (bread, butter, and spreads).

It also has its own tiled bathroom with shower, toilet, vanity, and heated towel rail.

And there is a separate lounge area with a TV/DVD and sofa bed.

Guests have their own entrance and a large elevated deck area - perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner in the sun. Also your own kitchenette, bathroom, and large bedroom. There's also a separate area downstairs with a TV/DVD setup. There is plenty of carparking on-site, and you have your own entry and staircase. The bedroom, TV room and deck area is exclusively yours for your stay, and are separate and locked off from the main house.

Other things to note
The studio loft is up a flight of stairs, so isn't suitable for wheelchair access, and as we don't have child-proof gates at the top of the stairs, recommend it isn't suitable for infants or toddlers either.

We live with a dog and cat, plus a horse and donkey in our paddock, so if you have allergies to these animals, this may not be the place for you.

If you are travelling with a horse or pony they can stay here too - but only by prior arrangement. We have a large 10x20 metre horse pen with shelter available for use (additional cost applies). We also have a parking and turning area for trucks and floats.

You will definitely see us come and go as we work and live on site - there is a mechanical workshop operating within the barn Monday-Friday, usually 8am-6pm, so there will be some noise within those hours.

The space
Park on the flat driveway right in front of the guest house, walk through French doors into a bright, modern living area with kitchenette and separate bathroom. Upstairs is a spacious and elegant loft bedroom with king size bed and lovely views over Riverhead. The downstairs bedroom provides the option of two single beds or one King sized bed, and a new and comfortable Queen sized sofa bed in the living area is also available (we can make this up for you if you are away for the evening). If you are preparing for a wedding, you'll find everything you might need here.
Outside seating, sun umbrella and chairs provide a lovely spot for an afternoon drink or two.
If your vehicle requires charging, there is a point right outside for you.

Guest access
'Kotare' is a completely self contained guest house, attached to our home, but privately sited with separate entrance and lock box key access.
We are located centrally with a short walk to Riverhead's bars, cafes and restaurants. The area has walks, biking tracks and vineyards close by, with Muriwai Beach only a 20 minute drive away. Huapai Golf Course is a 5 minute drive and if you want a good run or workout, the park across the road is perfect.
We live on site and will be available to provide any support, but the layout of this property ensures your complete privacy. You may even spot our local kingfisher (Kotare) on the power lines outside the apartment.

Other things to note
Our kitchenette has a microwave but no hob or sink, although the bathroom sink is just a few steps away for refilling a kettle.
We hope you'll enjoy our breakfast basics of home made museli, fruit, bread, spreads, tea and coffee. We will pop in and take care of any dishes when it's convenient for you. There are several great takeaway options and restaurants in walking distance from the guest house.

We can configure the sleeping arrangements at Kotare to suit any requirements for your stay. Our loft bedroom has a very comfortable king bed. In the second bedroom, two separate beds can operate as singles or join together to create a king sized bed. The sofa in the living room is easy to convert into a comfortable queen sized bed (we are happy to do this for you). We have a portacot available and an additional single bed that we can make up in the upstairs bedroom. The loft bedroom has a heat pump to keep the room ideally warm or cool during your stay.

We have configured Kotare to accommodate six adults with the rooms and beds if you need to squeeze six in for a night. Please be aware though, that although our guest house is cosy and comfortable, it is not a huge space for that number of adults. The sofa bed does take over the living room, but it is quick and easy to put away if you are staying more than one night. Our living area and bathroom are step free but the bedrooms do require navigating a few steps.

For guests preparing for a wedding, we have plenty of mirrors, several ironing boards and a steamer to help with the preparations. We can accommodate early check ins and late check outs for guests depending on wedding times.

As Kotare is attached to our own home, we are usually around. Your comfort and relaxation is very important to us - you'll see us as much or as little of us as you wish during your stay.

The space
The unit features three comfortable bedrooms: two with queen beds and one with two single beds. A port-a-cot is available upon request for families with babies.

Inside, you'll find a cozy sofa seating area, while outside, an outdoor dining space invites you to relax and soak in the tranquil farm surroundings. Each room offers stunning views of the peaceful countryside, with the playful sheep providing endless entertainment.

If the owners are home, you might even have the chance to collect fresh eggs from the chickens—a delightful hands-on farm experience!

You’ll have full access to the three bedrooms, bathroom area, and the surrounding farm to explore at your leisure.

Enjoy the peaceful countryside and take in the sights of the animals from a safe distance. However, for your safety, please do not enter any of the fenced animal areas, as there is a ram (male sheep) on the property that can be dangerous if approached closely. Your comfort and safety are our top priority while you enjoy your farmstay experience.
