We stayed at the First Light Villa and every detail has been so thoughtfully considered to make your stay feel seamless and special. The kitchen was fully stocked with breakfast essentials (and then some): smoked salmon, yogurt, oatmeal, eggs—anything we requested! It was luxury from start to finish. The views are simply breathtaking, and the expansive deck is the ideal spot to soak them all in. The upstairs bedroom is spectacular, with panoramic windows that make waking up feel like a dream. We are 8 mins walk from the passenger ferry from Paihia which links in with Auckland buses or shuttles to the Bay of Islands airport. If you come by car we are 10mins drive from the Opua vehicle ferry.

The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, gas hob, microwave , full family size fridge freezer. There are enough dishes to fill up the dishwasher.

We do advise you to keep very small children off the wooden part of our deck . A barrier can be put up on your request to keep toddlers safe.

Lounge has view through historic multi-paned windows to Clendon Cove with its ever changing tidal foreshore.

Access is flat with heaps of space for cars and boat trailers.
Concrete launching ramp (suitable 2 hours each side of high tide) is OK for boats up to 6m and there is a fish bench. There is a gas califont outdoor shower that guests are encouraged to use after water activities.
All tide boat launching available at Te Uenga about 5km away.
No boat? Some guests fish from the complimentary kayaks or at low tide walk out to fish from Clendon Cove rocks.

Swimming is fun in the stream at high tide and there is shallow swimming from the beach (a long walk to get deep water). Good swimming at Jills Beach within walking distance. It is about 15 minutes drive to Elliot Bay on the East Coast for sand and surf, and about 20 minutes to Long Beach over the hill from Russell township.

For the adventurous walk to the old Whangamumu Whaling station (2.5 hours return) or even to Cape Brett.

In Russell about 15 minutes away (17 km) are cafes, restaurants, tours (e.g. Hole in the Rock), fishing charters, museum, the oldest church in NZ, Pompallier Mission and Printery, oyster farms and vineyards. The local mini bus tour is highly recommended.

Further afield Paihia, Waitangi and Kerikeri offer history, shopping, wineries and golf.

Your hosts live in nearby house on the property and can assist with baby sitting and meeting your needs.

The ground floor is open plan living with two seating areas in which to relax and a window seat with expansive views over the Bay.

A spacious well-equipped kitchen with the latest appliances. Refrigerator with icemaker and chilled water dispenser, induction cooking plus microwave and coffeemaker.

Our home comfortably sleeps 4 adults in 2 upstairs bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other super king. There are 2 bathrooms on this level.

Downstairs there is a separate laundry with a washer, dryer and toilet.

Outdoor living enjoys all day sun with views to the Bay and beyond. There are 2 seating areas on the deck to enjoy morning coffee and/or breakfast.

If you love the serenity of the bush and the spectacular views of the Bay of Islands, with direct beach access, then our beach house is the place for you!

Recently built in 2020, the house is alongside our home, on the Te Wahapu peninsula a few minutes’ drive from Russell. You will have your own space, including on-site parking, and we can also accommodate a small boat.

You will have access to the beach house - upstairs with 2 bedrooms, full bathroom, and lounge; downstairs with kitchenette, dining, reading nook, office desk, children’s bunk room as well as outdoor deck with dining for 7, cedar hot tub, 2 loungers PLUS the gym which is a separate building up the hill path.

Other things to note:
There is a shared path, through our garden, down to the pebble beach.

Please note the oven is a Miele steam oven and there is a convection microwave - there is no full baking/roasting oven. The cooktops are 2 portable induction and there are 2 pans, 2 saucepans and a full size electric frying pan. The fridge is a CoolDrawer so operates as either a fridge, freezer, chiller, pantry or wine fridge.

We provide some coffee capsules, tea bags etc to start you off - there are 2 supermarkets in Russell should you wish to purchase any further supplies.

The cedar hot tub does take a few hours to heat to operating temperature (38.5 C) and can take 24+ hours from cold. The hot tub is serviced daily.

Please note the laundry facility (washer/dryer) is located in the gym.

Parking is available on-site for 1 vehicle and a small boat - please let us know at the time of booking if you are bringing your boat.

During your stay you will have access to the whole house and section. This includes a beautiful walk through native bush at the rear of the section.

Part of the charm of this place is its’ seclusion – you will never hear any road noise because there is no road! This means that vehicle access is only via the beach but the sand is hard packed so it’s no problem for driving, even for a 2 wheel drive vehicle. However this does mean that the home is not accessible by car for an hour or 2 either side of high tide so if you arrive and the water is lapping the front lawn, make use of the carpark at the end of the road, then it is a simple 2 minute walk along the beach. Make a coffee or pour a wine and by the time you’re done you can wander back and collect your vehicle.

The best way to get to Kororāreka (Russell) is via the car ferry from Opua to Okaito. We are approx 5 minutes from Okaito and Kororāreka (Russell) township is another 5 mins on.

Access via road is either via the sealed coast road or metal road around the Waikare Inlet (not recommended for the faint hearted).

You’ll love our place it's peaceful and private. You'll find it's been recently refurbished and is a very tidy self contained guest house with rural views from your back deck, the sea views can seen from the front of the units driveway. We are in a quiet and safe area, a great base to explore the Bay of Islands. Swimming beach within walking distance. Perfect for couples and solo adventurers. Everything supplied, complete kitchen, bbq, linen, etc just bring yourself and your personal affects.

Other things to note
Please note that when traveling by car it is not advisable to take the Waikare Road which is situated just past Kawakawa and immediately after the one way bridge on the right hand side. This is a narrow unsealed road! Continue on SH 11 to Opua where you will catch the car ferry over to Okiato - follow the road until you reach the Service Station and make a right turn, we are about 12 km along this road. Another route is to turn off at Oakura (on the right side 15 km North of Whangarei) don't turn off into Oakura keep going 59 km further on and this will take you around the east coast to us, the road is a little windy but there are some magnificent ocean views further along.

The Private Studio with own access is semi-detached from the Main House and includes a Kitchenette area with Tea Coffee making facilities ( milk provided), a small fridge and microwave and Private Bathroom.
A substantial Continental Breakfast is provided with Homemade Muesli, Fruit,Yoghurt and Toast.

A delightful beach studio unit. It has shabby chic decor, full kitchen and separate bathroom. It is across the road from world-famous rock fishing and a lovely shingle beach. Literally 2 minutes' walk from a sandy swimming beach and a grassy picnic area with a boat ramp as well.

The space
This is a fastidiously clean unit with kitchen allowing you to self-cater. It has a super king bed.
There is a dedicated workspace if you need to work or just use your laptop.
We are a friendly fun loving couple and live upstairs. We have a great knowledge of the area and can help you with local information and activities, maybe even join us for a pre-dinner drink.
When William, a local, is available, we can arrange for him to take you Kiwi spotting using the red torches that we supply for you.
Note, our internet speed is excellent, 300 to 320 download speed and 70 to 106 upload, depending on IOS or Android.

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Your own private space two minutes from the village or a 15 minute easy stroll. Russell village has many lovely places to dine and a range of activities/adventures to choose from.
Ten minutes walk from the beautiful white sands of Long Bay beach. Catch the passenger ferry to Paihia or the Waitangi Treaty grounds and museum.

Small dogs are welcome to stay and play in the fenced area beyond the deck. Please let me know in advance of your stay.

The space
My house is an historic 2 bedroom cottage built in the 1870's. The Cabin is brand new and located at the rear of my property. The access to the cabin is up the driveway and past my back yard. My back area has been fenced off, but you are likely to be greeted very enthusiastically by Florence the miniature poodle. Permanent fencing, screening and landscaping of my back area is currently a work in progress. Your deck and backyard area is completely private.

Clendon Lodge Studio is one of two bookable buildings at Clendon Lodge. The other is Clendon Lodge Homestead, (sleeps up to 10), one of the oldest houses in NZ with the main part built around 1840.
The entire property is 11 acres so there is plenty of space for all guests to have their separate spaces.
Established trees, some very old, provide shade on sunny days.

Guests are welcome to roam the entire grounds. The Studio has no washing machine but guests can request access to either the Homestead or owners laundry with washing machine and dryer.
