I didn’t feel comfortable sleeping with the windows open since they were so close to the ground and I was only traveling with my daughter. We were over heated in the house with only leaving one window open at night. It was the only window that was high and low to the ground. It was very hot at night mostly because we are use sleeping in air-conditioning on hot summer nights and to scared to leave all the windows open in the house at night because we were in a wooded rainforest. I think if we weren’t used to sleeping in air-conditioning it wouldn’t have bothered us so much. We both were very sweaty and had a hard time sleeping both nights because of the humidity and ho summer night. We loved the house but have decided for future plans we will book a place with AC. We will never forget this experience because we woke up and had no idea that Lahaina had burned down last night, because there is no reception at this house. The Wi-Fi does not work, no TV and can’t make it out going call I’m your cell phone. It doesn’t have anything to do with the Wi-Fi technically at this house that’s how it is on the entire side of Hana, everywhere, every house! Only reception is at the gas station. We found a local family to stay with after we checked out because we couldn’t get to our hotel in Lahaina because of the wildfires."

The house sits in the middle of the 4 acres surrounded by lawn, flowers, fruit trees and forest. Guests are welcome to harvest the fruit and flowers. It is very quiet, and on clear nights it is like a bowl of stars turned upside down on our land.
Both bedrooms have top quality beds, luxury linens, tvs and ceiling fans. Both rooms look out into the magnificent jungle.
The bathroom has a bathtub with a shower. The towels are big and soft.
The kitchen literally has everything, all top quality. There is also a charcoal grill on the covered lanai. There are two eating areas outside on the covered lanai where we have a harvest table and a four top teak table. There are also stools for the kitchen island.
The living area has been redecorated with new couches, chairs, and coffee table. It also has a tv, wifi and ceiling fan.
Outside on the covered lanai is another living set up with two couches and a coffee table and two outdoor eating areas. This is the best place to ponder how lucky you are! A wonderful outdoor shower is on the back of the house, hot and cold water, fun to use!
There are board games and a bocce ball set, dvd's, beach chairs and towels.
The house is located within walking distance to the Hana Lava Tubes, Kahanu Gardens and Hana Farms, Hana's Friday night hotspot for pizza and live music. There are also 3 food trucks on the road offering local eats, acai bowls and homemade ice cream. Waianapanapa State Park is only 2 miles away and Hana town is an easy 10 minute drive.

We live on the property, dedicating a large portion of it as a sanctuary for neglected animals. All are tame and very friendly. We encourage our guests to feel comfortable, enjoying their company… A second bedroom with its own bath can be made available if you have an extra guest (s) for an additional fee. - "First I apologize for the late response to review. All we can say is if you do not book this little farm as a weekender in Hana or for a break in between your Hana trek, you are missing out. We found it to be super charming. Alan is an incredible host, as are all the animals living their best life there. Lucy the dog came to greet us when we arrived, you will fall in love with her. The accommodation was spacious. At first we were a little concerned that there was no AC (sorry we’re from AZ…lol) but we quickly realized it was not needed. They do provide fans but really just open the doors and the breeze will flow through the screens, plus it rained in the evening and the early morning. There is a friendly gecko that hangs out in the unit, don’t be alarmed, he’s simply there for critter control. The morning we checked out, there was a gentleman there trimming the coconut trees and we were treated to fresh coconut. The farm is perfectly located & a short drive from Hana highway & places to grab coffee if you’re on the go. I/we could go on and on about this place but do yourselves a favor and go check it out. The Hana Ocean Palms Bungalow is located across from one of Hana's most beautiful oceanfront pools - Waioka Pond (Venus Pool). The property is nestled in a coconut palm grove and surrounded by almost an acre of lush tropical flowers, fruit trees and bamboo. Pick avocados, papayas and bananas and gather vegetables and herbs from the garden. - "The unit is “as advertised.” It was an easy check-in with access code. Comfy bed, kitchen had what we needed. Loved the note that informed us that the water from the tap is filtered. The view is incredible, the grounds are well manicured. Love the koi ponds and the stroll on the beach. This is my 2nd stay at Hana Kai (the 1st was in 2015). We will stay again when the opportunity arises:). Thank you!" - "To give you the highlights - quiet condo, great view, no A/C but did not need it (designed for maximum air flow through the condo utilizing the coastal breezes and good fans). Bed was comfortable with good sheets. I knew that in order to make our Road to Hana trip even remotely relaxing (a near impossibility), I needed to split up the drive and stay a night in Hana. We were able to leave Kaanapali between 7 & 8 am, take our time to stop at various sites (waterfalls, overlooks, food stands, beaches, etc), and got to Hana in time for dinner. We got there a little after 5 and many of the food options were already closed. We backtracked to Garden Gourmet Cafe and had some good pizza and Thai food options. We ate a lovely dinner on the condo balcony looking at the black sand beach and ocean. After the stress of driving and some of the tourist crowds, an evening at the condo made it all worth it. We had a nearly private stroll on the black sand beach right in front of the condo after dinner. Starting in Hana the second day meant we were already close to Wai’anapanapa State Park (made reservations weeks in advance for a slot to visit the park that morning), Hana Lava Tube, and plenty of time to enjoy Ohe’o Gulch and Waimoku falls (Pipiwai Trail). I had planned to do the full loop, but couldn’t due to rockslide and closed roads past Kipahulu. The drive was very long to get back from Kipahulu but I can’t imagine how exhausted we would be going there and back in the same day."

The center of Hana town, Hana Bay, Koki Beach, Hāmoa Beach, the Hana Lava Tube, and Waianapanapa State Park (with the famous black sand beach) are all within a 10 minute drive from Heavenly Hana Paradise.

Haleakala National Park at Kipahulu at about 35 minutes away, with the pools at O`heo Gulch and Pipiwai Trail, a two mile hike through a bamboo forest terminating at a spectacular waterfall.

Hana is home to over a dozen food trucks that are usually open for lunch. Braddah Hutts BBQ, one of our favorite food trucks, is located just outside of Hana town and is open from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm weekdays. Kilo's Kitchen, also a favorite food truck, is located about 1/4 mile from Heavenly Hana Paradise just past the
Hana Police Station on Uakea Road and is open weekdays for lunch. Thai Food by Pranee, also on Uakea and located near Hana Bay is usually open weekdays for lunch.

The Bamboo Hale at Hana Farms (near the "Welcome to Hana" sign) is open daily for lunch and for lunch and for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Hana Resort serves breakfast daily beginning at 7:00 am.

The two grocery stores in Hana are Hasegawa General Store (closes at 6:00 pm) and Hana Ranch Store (closes at 7:00 pm). There is one gas station, which closes around 7:00 pm and is the only gas station in East Maui after you leave Paia town.

I was weary as Hana can be quite rural and limited options, but this place was quaint and exactly what we needed. The studio is part of the main house which contains 3 separate units; one upstairs and two downstairs.

Each suite is a secure self-contained unit equipped with its own entrance, bathroom, kitchen (upstairs)/kitchenette (suite on the main level) or wet bar (studio), patio, and living quarters.

You will only share the driveway and parking lot, there is one designated parking spot per unit. Yours is the 3rd parking spot to the right, directly in front of thr studio unit.

There is a private residence (cottage) located on the property approximately 25 feet away and is not available for reservations. It is not part of the Airbnb listing; if you have questions about the area or studio please direct them to Kaua. I am either on-site or can be reached with the contact information provided.

Other things to note
HANA HIGHWAY

The drive is not for the faint of heart, expect high cliffs and vistas, waterfalls, dense and remote jungle, and many single-lane yields and bridges. We are approximately 2.5 hours from the airport with traffic it can at times take longer than that. The entire drive you will not receive cell phone service. The Hana Highway experiences landslides, heavy rainfall at times (*why we have waterfalls and the west side does not), trees may fall and we are prone to heavy traffic. A road crew designated to the Hana Highway work 24 hour/365 days per year. If a tree falls or there is a slide or rockfall they will be on-site immediately and clear it. To date, we have not received a full highway closure, that lasts for more than a few hours, be patient and it will be cleared.

RAIN

The Hana Highway and the entire east side of the island receive more rainfall per year than the west side of the island. The east side of the island consists of dense rainforest and waterfalls, the west side is considered a desert.

FOOD

Hana is no longer limited to food choices. There are 17 food trucks and 3 restaurants.

CLEANING

There are 3 separate rentals in the beach house, our housekeeper is on-site daily between 10 am and 3 pm. The inside and the outside of our home is tended to 365 days a year. We do not provide daily housekeeping services throughout your stay, the clean fee is applied to cleaning the suite after you have checked out.

CRITTERS

If you do not tolerate critters, Hana may not be the right place for you. We encourage our guests to keep screen doors closed at all times to avoid critters from entering.

All visible spider webs are also removed from the entry, bathhouse, and the backyard pathway. We cannot guarantee you will not have a run-in with a spider web (they are able to form webs very quickly/overnight).

We do not spray pesticides inside or outside.

If you have a phobia or are unable to tolerate pests (ants, mosquitos, spiders, bugs, lizards), we suggest staying at any of the 5-star resorts on the west side of the island. They spray pesticides regularly and you would less likely encounter them there.

NOISE

We live in Hana Town (1,235 population) and have neighbors. Our neighborhood is quiet (with the exception of Halloween night and New Year's Eve) and locals do turn in it down and are very respectful at all hours.

Most are often many are fast asleep by 9 pm. There can be noise intermittently, however, it is not like the city. We live in the country; families may be heard, grass will get cut, feral cats may fight, dogs and cows can be heard and occasionally, a rooster or chickens may pay an unscheduled visit.

This studio is part of a triplex with a unit upstairs and a unit next door. Housekeeping is on-site turning over units between 10 am and 3 pm daily. There is a vacation rental next door to us and a church.

CATS

There is a good chance that you will encounter our orange kitties as they tend to greet our guests. They are very friendly. Please note that we do not allow the cats inside the suite under any circumstance. We respect those that have allergies, they are a royal pain when traveling. Please leave the doors closed at all times to ensure they don't find their way inside.

If the kitties are not orange, they are feral strays. Do not touch stray cats ;), ours are precious.

The Sunrise Hana Surf Loft does not have a typical layout as homes do on the mainland, it is very much a “local Hawaiian home”. It has been designed with an open concept floor plan on the second level of a two-story home, utilizing outdoor living space.

Sleeps a family of four. Guests have their own 1400 sqft self-contained unit with a private entrance, 1 California King mattress and 1 Queen mattress to accommodate a couple or a family of four, full kitchen, living space, 55" LCD Smart TV with complimentary Netflix, and wrap around patio. (*1000 sq ft indoor and 400 sq ft outdoor).

The back lanai has its own screened-in sunroom where you will find a sprawling king size mattress.

The unit is equipped with a full-size fridge/freezer, purified water dispenser/ice maker, glass top range with oven, dishwasher, air fryer, toaster, coffee maker, electric kettle, slow cooker, rice maker, kitchen utensils/cookware/cutlery.

We live in the country; grass will get cut, feral cats may fight, dogs from the sub-division can be heard occasionally, a rooster or chickens may pay an unscheduled visit and at times you may hear cows. This loft is part of a triplex with two other units on the main level.

Housekeeping is on-site turning over units between 10 am and 3 pm daily. There is a vacation rental next door to us and a church.

CATS: There is a good chance that you will encounter our orange kitties as they tend to greet our guests. They are very friendly. Please note that we do not allow the cats inside the house and ask if you could please remove them if they sneak in. However, the wrap-around deck does not have a way of blocking them out and they have made their way onto the lanai to pay guests a visit. If the kitties are not orange, they are feral strays.

The space
Prior to arrival, your room is deep cleaned to ensure a comfortable and safe stay. At the end of each cleaning session, windows are closed and a UV Air Purifier removes 99.97% of the dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke, odors, and air particles as small as 0.3 microns. The unit's UV light adds a deeper level of air sanitation by destroying illness-causing microorganisms. Following this cleaning session, the room is completely closed until your arrival.

A UV Sanitizer Box is located in each room. You can easily disinfect your phone, jewelry, watches, credit cards, keys and remotes during your stay. The UV Sanitizer box will clean up to 99.9% of household germs, viruses, and bacteria.

You will need a vehicle to get to Hana and to visit the area's attractions. The roads are narrow and without sidewalks, so walking is not encouraged. Explore Hana Town and visit the local shops and food stands along the road. Visit amazing tropical wonders such as the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park, Hamoa Bay, the Pools at 'Ohe'o Gulch, and the unforgettable bamboo forest along the Pipiwai Trail in Kipahulu. Taste ono grinds and true organic vegetables and fruits at local markets. Meet the locals and experience what true Hawaiian culture and life is all about.

Take note that the road to Hana is a long and winding one - both ways. Be prepared to spend a full day driving one way. We recommend driving the highway in its entirety, it is an experience in its own. On your return to the other side of the island, if you time your adventure right, you can witness sunset at Haleakala Crater - - 10,000 feet above the Central Valley of Maui!

Guests should note that this is a tropical rain forest and, depending on the trade winds, mosquitoes may be present. It wasn't always that way. As one story goes, in 1826 the whaling ship Wellington arrived at Lahaina from Mexico. Seeking fresh water, they dumped their barrels of old water into a river. Unfortunately, mosquito larvae were in the barrels. Another story has angry whalers, banned from Lahaina by the king, dumped their mosquito-infected water for revenge. Nevertheless, mosquitoes were not native to the islands and, sometime in the 1800s, they were introduced to Hawaii.

The Ho'okipa Surf Suite is air conditioned, however, the windows are equipped with screens should you decide to turn off the AC. We have monthly pest control to ensure there are no insects inside, but occasionally one might hitchhike on your shoe or luggage.

The bungalow has an open air seating area on the ground level and 2 flights of stairs to get into the enclosed living area upstairs. There is a full kitchen, king size bed, 2 person tub with shower on the screened in porch, wifi, cable TV and DVD, ceiling fans, and ocean view through the trees. There is also a wonderful private lava rock shower in the garden below the bungalow.

The tropical ecosystem does consist of geckos, non venomous spiders, wasps, mosquitoes, centipedes, and a variety of other insects. Yes, they do sometimes find their way into the cottage, especially the geckos. We do have monthly pest service and are diligent with catching them. They are harmless and eat insects. If you have any concerns about them or perhaps encountering any of these creatures.....PLEASE DO NOT BOOK!
