- "Good stay" - "Beautiful gem along highway 1. Very quiet and friendly, excellent food and clean room/facilities. Nemo (Frenchie) was warmly welcome and very safe. " - "Such a unique and beautiful stay! We stayed in a cabin and had such a relaxing trip. The lodge is so peaceful and had fun activities available. The restaurant was accommodating for my food allergies and their store had a fantastic selection of allergy-friendly foods. The community showers could’ve used some attention - out of the two available, one didn’t have any soap/shampoo/conditioner. The only other one available had old cobwebs in the shower, indicating it hadn’t been wiped down in a while (not spiderwebs). Other than that, the cabin was clean and the skylights were so relaxing. We were able to see the stars as we fell asleep. We loved having the windows open at night to hear nature. Really peaceful, beautiful, relaxing lodge!"

- "We had a really bad reservation with website, was so annoying and frustrating, was a really bad experience for payment, fire place out was out of gas and we are not satisfied because I just chose this place for the fire outside, I sent the message but nobody did not respond and they have to refund a part of the money. However the rest was good. " - "The owner keeps the house at 59°, even prior to guest arrival, which is really uninviting. It was hard to get the house to warm up, and the system wasn’t user friendly. The system would reset back to 59° in the middle of the night, so the house was super cold. The host did their best to try and help and they were very nice, but it would have been nice to arrive to a warm home. "

- "A wonderful getaway, especially for those in the Bay Area as it is a stone's throw away. A creek location property in a spot that is dear to my heart, as I spent my childhood summers in Riverside Grove. Who would think the air can be so clean so close to Bay Area locales? Every convenience is thought of by these young owners, and decorated tastefully and thoughtfully. We will be back in the summer, but we sure did enjoy the fire pit!!" - "The bungalow is situated by the river. Beautiful views of river from decks. It is very peaceful. The kitchen is small but has great appliances and I had fun cooking. The walk in shower is huge. The bedroom has lamps and UBS cubes on each side which made charging things very convenient. - "this is a large, tranquil property very near the entrance of portola redwoods state park. there are 3 cabins, one occupied permanently in the front by a friendly and kind man ,Michael ( and his mom),who are keeping an eye out on everything. just behind the front cabin, there is a large 3 bedroom cabin which was our base for the park, along with a tiny ,but cozy cabin that was behind it, with plenty of room to stretch out for everybody. The owners were very easy to work with, and friendly, and have made improvements to the cabins to make them comfortable. There is still work thatneeds to be done to make the cabins and the grounds even better, but the spectacular location and the magical redwoods of portola state park more than make up for a few minor inconveniences. we would happily stay here again. dog friendly too!"

- "great place to stay. temperature was great 58 degrees when it was 107 back in texas!!! loved it" - "For years, VRBO has been my go-to. With a few exceptions, my experiences have been positive. However, none has topped the wonderful get-away we had in Lea's cottage. The scent of redwoods and flowers greeted us, accompanied by the sounds of the flowing creek. - "What a wonderful retreat. We loved our peaceful and quiet experience at this property. A great getaway for the weekend!" - "Very cute and comfortable studio. Looking forward to visiting again." - "The photos don't do this studio apartment justice. The first thing I said when I entered the apartment was, "This is perfect for us". It's off the road, tucked among the redwoods. Even though the apartment is attached to the larger house, it's still very private. The entire space inside and out is just wonderful and perfect for two adults. Cynthia and Michael are fabulous hosts and made us feel welcome. They responded to messages within minutes. I really appreciated the signage inside and out with everything labeled clearly throughout. The apartment is clean, well-appointed, and very cozy. It was a pleasure to return to after a day of sightseeing and adventures. It is well stocked with linens and towels in the walk-in closet. The separate kitchen had all of the utensils and appliances we needed. The bathroom has a very large shower and is stocked with everything including first aid items, hair dryer, and conditioner. The deck overlooks a stream and is equipped with a grill, table, and bench. Perfect for a grilled dinner outside or just relaxing. There are parks and hiking trails within minutes. - "My wife and two kids (age 17 and 18) spent four nights in this lovely home. I picked the house based upon the inviting photos, its positive reviews and the fact that it was located just south of San Francisco, making the house convenient to San Francisco, Monterey, and the airport. The drive to and from the house was up over the mountains and through a stand of Redwood trees -- very beautiful and unexpected! The picturesque town of Woodside was close-by with several restaurants and a cute market. The house itself is private and secure. (There is a gate used to access the property controlled by a keycode.) It was very peaceful. Most importantly, however, the house was very, very clean. All furnishings (beds, couches, chairs, etc.) were very comfortable and high quality. Both of my kids expressed to my wife and I that this was the favorite place they've stayed on one of our vacations. There weren't really any downsides for my family and I, but some things for future visitors... The house is relatively remote (about 20 to 30 minutes from Woodside), so no popping out for a coffee in the morning. The main living area and bedroom are upstairs. There is no AC, so keeping an eye on area temperatures is recommended. (Windows are screened and fans are provided if it does get warm.) None of the above should detract potential visitors -- the house and location are fabulous -- but they are things to keep in mind. Overall, my family and I would rate this place a 10 out of 10."

- "Wow, wow, wow. where do I start!! The location is spectacular,,,gorgeous ocean and beach views,,,you feel like you are on the set of a movie it is almost surreal. From the sounds of the crashing waves below to the pod of humpback whales feeding for hours directly in-front of our Airstream to the flocks of majestic pelicans flying overhead while we had breakfast. It was truly California as I had always imagined it, simply breathtakingly beautiful. The property and Airstream are very private, there was another Airstream but we never heard or interacted with the other guests, the layout was perfect. Inside the Airstream is impeccable and tastefully furnished with everything you could possibly need and more, too many details to mention to be honest. The hot water was actually so hot at times that I had to adjust it,,and I keep thinking while showering I'm taking a shower on a California cliff, amazing experience., Nighttime was so so special, we made pizza in the wood pizza oven and used three wood bundles in the fire pit while listening to some soft music, so relaxing its hard to express. Great host--friendly, very responsive, clear and comprehensive information on how to use the Airstream. We will definitely be back to this little slice of heaven soon for years to come. If you are fortunate enough to get the change to stay here, don't hesitate."

Leave the news and stress, relax, ground and experience AWE - we can't wait to host you in our ancient sequoia forest home, the Redwood Terrace, right next to the Pacific Ocean! Bring family & friends, bask in the sunlight sneaking through the evergreens, enjoy the board games, Infinity Game table, foosball, fire pit, snacks and more. Mountain biking, hiking, wild & untamed CA coastal access all around you. Plug in your EV and charge up your memories at your family friendly home away from home.
Experience your own in-yard ancient grove of redwood forest (magnificent Sequoia giants), all in the same county of Silicon Valley giants. Charge your EV, while charging your family's memories around our in-house fireplace.
Dichotomies abound - because this is not only California, but specifically San Francisco's San Mateo County, and within that, this is La Honda, a Santa Cruz Mountains gem.
Our guests say...
We sit and listen to pelotons of bicyclists whiz by and hear their conversation between heavy breaths. Debating Sram and Shimano, and passing along venture capital deals.
We play "Name the supercar?" (when it's a motorcycle, we predict the number of cylinders), based on the exhaust timbre that echoes off of our mountainside.
After the mechanical exotica, we ground ourselves to the earth in the serenity of our home. Upward facing dog realizes the immensity of the redwoods within reach - truly, within three steps you can hug one. Our redwoods put a classical spin on the idea of a Millennial. And then ponder the things you've been meaning to do, then breathe out.
Pack the picnic bag because you've got to go gather a vial of sand 6 miles down the road at San Gregorio State Beach - because you've got the time. Mingle with people on their bucket list trip of California's Route 1 and tell them your story, too.
3 cars fit in the driveway in front of the garage.
Keypad access for the font door.
Central heat when you want convenience, with fans in each room when in need of a breeze.
Up the street is La Honda store for more wood, food, bicyclists, and conversation.
Pick up sandwiches, drive 0.5 miles up to Sears Ranch parking for an easy trail hike with wide open views and friendly cows. You can now bring your dog too!
After your hike, drive 0.5 miles back downhill to (in)famous Applejack's, which is now family friendly BBQ on Sat+Sun.
In San Gregorio, have a conversation about the world and making it better, while listening to live music and enjoying sweet treats from the local bakery, @LeMoonZest.
Fuel up with tots at Loma Mar store, then spend those carbs on a hike, bike, or bird-watching at Hoffman Creek Trailhead or Sam McDonald Park.
Then, on Skyline, Alice's Restaurant, where people gather from around the world to compare notes (and put on a show) about their cars and motorcycles, every day, single day, greet the sunset while enjoying a delicious dinner (with desserts from @LeMoonZest, again :)).
Old growth redwood forest nestled in the Troutmere / Redwood Terrace / La Honda Community.
3 parking spots in the driveway. Street parking 50 feet away. Absolutely amazing starting point for road bicyclists, and for mountain bikers too that want to take advantage of nearby trails (NOTE: no bicycling in the immediate residential area/up the narrow road). Also a great base camp for motorcyclists exploring the Santa Cruz Mountains' amazing roads, and grand touring roadtrippers.
EV charging for Tesla (bring your adapter), Taycan, Lucid, e-Tron, Rivian, Bolt, Volt, Kia, Hyundai, Mustang, you name the EV. 40Amp / 10kw charge rate, so you'll be topped up by the morning before you adventure for the day. This will be pass-thru billed to you via the simplicity of the app we'll share.
Pull out bed / couch, so if your party is more than 6 people, let us know!
We fill a fresh gallon jug of water, stock drinks and snacks for you in the fridge. Please, enjoy these as we share our place with you. Plenty of cooking equipment, spices, and more, because you want your food to taste the way you would make it. Consider this your home away from home, because it is. Same with the board games, the Infinity Game table, the foosball and chess tables, the cornhole, and the fireplace.
For those with kids - we can have a pack 'n play, a high-chair, and a jogging stroller in the house for your use, to help reduce your luggage that you need to lug around and pack. We even have toys and a Strider bike for your little one (with a helmet)!
Baggage can be dealt with later. Your time together starts now!

- "We loved our brief stay in the airstream. The view and privacy was something that will remain with us forever. They are working on the close-by beach and we were denied access to the beach which was disappointing but that was to no fault of our accommodations. Close to things you may need but ... With a view like that.... Why would you ever want to leave? Absolutely unforgettable." - "We loved the location. It was fun staying in an airstream. We loved that it was dog friendly. The bed was very comfortable. It would be nice to have actual silverware to eat with instead of plastic utensils but it's probably hard to keep on hand. We'd like to see more cooking gear, instead of board games, in the cabinets over the bed! Deano and Kristi were very friendly and accomodating on the basics we needed (water, propane, etc) Our only complaints; the property was overgrown with evil foxtails and thistles (so our dog had to be extra restricted). There was little space around the fire pit and the deck was shallow and the steps tilted and narrow (down to fire pit area) The gas line to the fire pit wasn't buried. The screen was broken off of the door. There was no table to dine outdoors. The folding chairs were falling apart. Deano assured us that there will be a nice picnic table eventually and i don't doubt we will be back anyway, knowing what fun it was!"

- "The host, Ali, was great and accommodating. Thank you! He responded to questions quickly. After our stay there in early August, we agreed with the other reviews that it got too hot inside during the day without air conditioning. But the evenings did cool off and there was a supply of fans. Our biggest concern was that the cleaning service used perfumed laundry soap and cleaning products that were pretty strong smelling. We ended up re-washing all of the sheets beforehand to try and mitigate the smell for sleeping. But the bath towels were great and plentiful! They also did not do a great job cleaning. There were dog hairs on the living room furniture and a dead cockroach in the entry. A few lightbulbs had blown, most importantly the one in the stairwell to the downstairs bedrooms that got pretty dark at night. The toilet plumbing in the downstairs bathroom was fragile and one sink had no running water through the hot valve. Also, the listing featured a hot tub that was actually a tub sauna in the bathroom. But the decks were great, spacious, and beautiful views. And the neighborhood was quiet. We had a nice couple of days there. "

Escape with your family to our secluded cabin, nestled in a private neighborhood in the redwoods in Pescadero. Get the best of both worlds with a protected redwood forest for your backyard and a quick seven miles to the beach. Beachcomb and boogie board at the beach by day, and enjoy the canopy of redwoods by night while roasting marshmallows on the fire pit on the large, private deck.
CABIN
With 4 bedrooms and 2 ½ bathrooms, a large group of 9 people can comfortably stay. On the main floor, the ensuite master bedroom has a queen bed with forest views, sliding doors to the deck, bathroom with double vanity, separate shower/toilet room, freestanding tub to soak in while enjoying the view of the redwoods, and an infrared sauna to relax in once the kiddos are asleep.
A view of the redwoods can also be enjoyed from each bedroom upstairs. Both the Beach Bedroom and the Forest Bedroom have queen beds, and the Adventure Bedroom has a bunk bed with a queen bed on the bottom and a twin above.
The kids have a separate woodland-themed playroom just off the Adventure Bedroom, as well as games and a pool table on the “bridge” that joins the two sides of the house upstairs. For those who need to catch up on a little business, we have a full size office with beautiful custom stained-glass French doors, desk space, a leather couch, and many board games in the secretary.
The main living area is a great room with kitchen, dining, and living room with high ceilings, plenty of seating, and a wood-burning fireplace that heats the home and provides ambiance for the entire great room. For cozy nights in, you can enjoy the warm fireplace while watching a movie on the large Vizio TV with free streaming service. Enjoy a fully stocked kitchen with island seating for three and dining for eight (table extensions can be added for more seating).
From the spacious, private back deck, the whole family can enjoy the forest view over the ravine, roast marshmallows around the wood-burning fire pit in the lounge area, grill just off the kitchen, share meals in the outdoor dining area, or relax on the two hammocks and Adirondack chairs. Additionally, the kids can enjoy the side yard with a slide and outdoor games (such as corn hole, ring toss, safe lawn “darts,” giant jenga, foam hatchet toss, and more).
LOCAL AREA
Memorable experiences are endless both local and beyond. Take in the unique and popular local flavor of quaint downtown Pescadero. Shop for antiques and local artisan creations, sip a warm beverage at the cool coffee shop, grab sandwiches and delicious made-daily garlic artichoke bread (a must!) at Arcangeli’s or Mexican food at the Taqueria De Amigos restaurant at the gas station (carne asada burritos and fish tacos are faves), or dine at historic Duarte’s Tavern (be sure not to miss out on their olallieberry pie, made fresh daily). Stop by Harley Farms Goat Dairy to see the goats and get some delicious freshly made specialty goat cheeses and delectables. You can also reserve their chic farm-style upper room for celebrations. On Thursdays, catch the local farmers’ market to get your fresh artichokes, Brussel Sprouts, berries, and much more. Hand harvest mussels at Pescadero Beach in season. Plan an idyllic afternoon picking berries at several local “u-pick” farms, or buy fresh at the darling local R&R Fresh Farms market or many farm stands along the scenic Highway 1. Savor some delicious freshly made quiche at the delightful nearby Loma Mar Store.
Enjoy the many gorgeous “hidden gem” beaches near Pescadero; paddle board on Pescadero marsh; take a hike at nearby Butano State Park, Sam McDonald Park, or Memorial Grove Park to see the giant redwoods and take a family picture at the chimney tree; cycle the scenic, winding roads over Horse Camp or Stage Road; experience the expansive, breathtaking views from Pigeon Point Lighthouse; get up close and personal (but not too close!) with the elephant seals at Año Nuevo State Park; put on your boots for a work day and barn dance at Pie Ranch and grab some fresh pie at their charming shop; get massages at the lodge at Costanoa (a popular glamping destination) and play lawn games (like giant chess) after you dine at their delicious Cascade Restaurant & Bar. At the holidays, swing on the giant swings with a view of the Pacific ocean, roast marshmallows, make wreaths, and go on a tractor ride after cutting down your Christmas tree at Rancho Siempre Verde.
GREATER AREA
After you take in the unique sights and experiences of Pescadero and the surrounding area, you can go south to watch the kite surfers at Waddell Creek Beach, hike to the waterfall at Big Basin State Park, ride an old steam train through the redwoods at the Roaring Camp Railroad, explore the unexplainable at the Mystery Spot, or let go on the rides at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (an amusement park on beautiful Santa Cruz beach).
Heading north, explore picturesque Half Moon Bay, dining and shopping in the downtown eclectic shops; take the kids to pet the animals at Lemos Farm or Pastorino's Pumpkin Farm; view the unique orchids and carnivorous plants at the row of greenhouses on Hwy 92; and delight in the amazing seafood at Barbara’s Fish Trap. In the fall, explore the autumn wonderland by traversing the straw maze at Arata’s Farm and experience the famous Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival.
In the greater area, you can take in all the sights of San Francisco, ride a ferry to Sausalito, tour Stanford in Palo Alto, enjoy the amusement park rides (and the water park) at Great America in Santa Clara, explore the bizarre and fascinating Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, or visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey.
- "We enjoyed a lovely mom’s weekend! The home is beautiful, well appointed, and Wendy is very attentive to your needs and feedback. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking in Butano, shopping in Half Moon Bay, and exploring Pescadero! The fire pit and quiet deck is a perfect place to relax in the evening. We would love to return… The only drawback is we didn’t plan to stay long enough!" - "We had the most FANTASTIC time at Woods and Waves!! The property is a gorgeous cabin nestled deep in the redwoods and only a twelve minute drive to the beach! The kitchen is FULLY stocked with everything you need to whip up a meal. My husband and I went with four other friends and we were all very comfortable during our stay. This is everything you could ever want in a weekend trip to nature. Just a heads up, Pescadero is a small farm town so definitely stock up on groceries before driving out. We had an absolutely spectacular time and Wendy thought of every detail to make our stay the most comfortable possible. BOOK THIS CABIN! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!"

Important Information to Consider:
Before finalizing your booking, please take note of the following:
1. Spiral Staircase: The spiral staircase in the property is narrow and may pose a challenge for guests with above-average size. Kindly consider this factor when making your reservation.
2. Sloping Property: As the property is situated on a slope, it may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility or those requiring additional assistance. Please ensure that you are comfortable navigating such terrain.
3. Footwear Recommendation: To fully enjoy the surrounding hiking trails and mountainous terrain, it is advisable to have suitable footwear for hiking and climbing.
4. Unpaved Gravel Road: The final 200 feet of the road leading to the property is unpaved gravel. We highly recommend vehicles with high clearance and 4WD/AWD, particularly on rainy days.
5. Off-Grid Living Experience: Our mountain retreat offers a unique off-grid living experience, immersed in a natural environment with abundant forest and wildlife. It is important to understand that this lifestyle may not be suitable for everyone, particularly those seeking the convenience of city amenities. People here have a sense of adventure to fully appreciate each day as a new experience. It is important to acknowledge that access to water and electricity is a privileged aspect here, and they require careful usage and conservation.
6. Road Conditions: Please be aware that the roads in the area are not always paved and can occasionally be obstructed by fallen trees or landslides, especially during the rainy winter season. It is advisable to be prepared for such circumstances if you decide to proceed with your booking.
Thank you for taking the time to review these important considerations. We want to ensure that your stay aligns with your expectations and provides you with an unforgettable experience.

On Thursdays, catch the local farmers’ market to get your fresh artichokes, Brussel Sprouts, berries, and much more.
Stop by Harley Farms Goat Dairy to see the goats and get some delicious freshly made specialty goat cheeses and delectables. You can also reserve their chic farm-style upper room for celebrations.

The space
Our nonprofit retreat center was founded in 1964 as a religious organization to welcome all belief systems and spiritual, personal growth, and wellness practices.
We’re tucked just a few miles inland from the Pescadero coastline, on the edge of Butano Creek. Trees and wildlife are gloriously abundant. Please ask us about adding an outdoor amenities package which can include pool, hot tub, and more!
On site, we’re powered by Starlink, so Wi-Fi is available. Restrooms and pretty sinks are outdoor access and showers are private plein air, with plenty of hot water and sunshine! While you’re checking out the campus, don’t miss saying hello to our chickens. They love a little bit of extra attention.
Guest access
You will have access to the entire center except for the Main Lodge, which is being remodeled due to storm damage. Staff housing is separate and distinct, so that you are afforded requisite privacy.
While you’re with us, we also ask that you observe the following guidelines to help us to be good stewards of Venture’s land and mission. Please, no pets without approval and keep your wits about you! Wildlife is abundant; stinging nettles and poison oak, ticks, and snakes in season. Bobcats, coyotes, deer, raccoons and over one hundred species of birds have been spotted on our campus!
For your protection, and the protection of your four-legged friends, ask permission first, keep plants intact, and keep flower picking to a minimum. Gardens inside the pool fence are for the enjoyment of all guests. Gardens with goodies (greens, herbs, fruits) are a reward, we would welcome a little weeding in exchange for a snack :)
When you pack, bring camping necessities: extra layers, flashlight, etc.
