Fall is approaching the High Country and what better way to spend a crisp day than snuggled in our mountain guesthouse.
After traveling for 4 years, we settled in the charming town of West Jefferson, North Carolina, in an established neighborhood, a 5 minute walk to downtown shops, cafes and art galleries. We were thrilled our home included an artist's studio atop the garage, just behind our home, but decided we would prefer to use the studio for friends and family; a guesthouse close enough for socializing but far enough for everyone to have their own space. In between family and friends we are opening our guesthouse, Vogelsang (German for birdsong), to you, and whether you are a couple or solo traveler, we are committed to making you as comfortable as family.

There is ample off street parking, 15 stair steps to the studio and a small deck for enjoying views of Little and Big Phoenix Mountains. Inside is a queen bed with soft sheets, plenty of pillows (you can never have too many pillows), comforter and extra blankets for those cool nights in the mountains. The bath has a shower, toilet, small sink, towels and ample hooks. A dorm frig, microwave, coffee maker and coffee, is in the nook.

If you or your companion are super tall, you may find the 6'9" ceilings confining. The entry door is 5'8" and everyone instinctively ducks, even if they are only 5'2". But once inside, you will find everything you need for a cozy, comfortable stay. Wi-fi, TV, air conditioning, heat, peace and quiet!

When you are ready to explore downtown, a quick walk, or drive, through the Town park, past basketball, pickle ball and tennis courts, playground, the Ashe County Library, to all the activity and excitement of shops, cafes and galleries. Grab a coffee and sweet at Hatchet Coffee, lunch at an English Tea Room, a movie, or beer in the evening at one of two craft breweries. The trolley to the Old Barn Winery departs and returns downtown on the weekends on a regular schedule. Hop on and leave the driving to them. You can even choose your Christmas Tree while there.

My husband and I enjoyed our time there and would definitely go back! The jar of strawberry jam as a welcome gift was an added touch! Wine, beer and highball glasses, coffee cups, dishes and bowls and a full pull out drawer with lots of silverware, knives and serving utensils. The spice cabinet includes the basics and more. 2 additional large drawers offer other kitchen needs including spare batteries and a first aid kit.

We have always thoroughly cleaned and disinfected all surfaces including furniture, counter tops, molding, all bathroom and kitchen surfaces, floors, remote controls, door knobs, light switches, and more, both immediately following a stay and prior to a new guest to freshen things up if it had been awhile between guests. Of course bedding, towels, dishes and kitchen items are thoroughly washed. Many of our reviews talk about the cleanliness of our property and the views!. My husband and I personally clean and inspect each other's work to make sure this home shines. No cross-contamination: Cleaning items never travel from room to room. You can pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway less than 3 miles from the cabin and enjoy log range views for miles. No matter which direction you chose to go the famous scenic views of the parkway will not disappoint.

Less than 1/2 mile from the cabin is the South fork of the New River. Public access allows canoeing/kayaking/tubing/fishing and even swimming!

Less than 10 minutes from the cabin you can splash in the water and play at Elk Shoals, a tourist favorite in Ashe County. You can put your kayaks in at Elk Shoals and take out at Zaloos off Hwy 16 (about a 3-4 hour float). If you don’t have your own, don’t fret- you can rent canoes and kayaks from Zaloo’s just north of Glendale Springs or head south toward Todd and rent from River Girl Fishing. Here you can also rent bikes for the pleasant – and level – ride along Railroad Grade Road. Here you can embark on a 20-mile trip from Todd to Fleetwood to Todd again.

Only ten minutes away you can enjoy excellent hiking and views from Mt Jefferson State Park. Enjoy a hike and a long range view picnic after.

From here you are also about 30 minutes from all that Boone has to offer. Only another 15 beyond that you’re in Blowing Rock with even more shops, dining and antiques. We are 1 hour ten minutes from Beech Mountain.

It had AC which was great bc there was a freak heat wave up there, would have been great to sleep with the windows open and cool air though. I would definitely go back and stay here again. Frank and Jeannine were very nice. They answered all my questions and responded very quickly. I didn't make it to a yoga session unfortunately, there's always next time. Frank recommended an awesome hike that has wild horses, it was amazing. I can't say enough good things about this house and the folks that own it. I can't wait to come back!!"

This cabin-like cottage is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s close enough to ‘do all the things,’ but you’ll feel totally secluded at The Happy Place, with a fun mural to greet you.

Near Hiking, tubing, kayaking, and waterfalls. West Jefferson is about 15 minutes away. Walk 13 acres of trails on the property and enjoy the large fire pit or play games at the picnic table (we have a drawer full!)

Welcome to “Stone House Aerie”! New to our family March 2024!

Our tiny home, sleeps 5, is within walking distance to historical downtown West Jefferson.The West Jefferson Municipal park is in your back yard.....large kids playground, tennis courts, basketball court, swings, a jumbo slide, rest rooms, picnic tables and plenty of green space. "Stone House Aerie" is a great location to walk to the Parkway Movie Theater, Ashe County Cheese and the bustling Farmers Market that offers a wide variety of fresh, locally grown produce, artisanal crafts, homemade goods, seasonal fruits and veggies, fragrant flowers, delectable baked goods and more. All of this within an easy walk from our home.

This modern, new construction studio/tiny home is located in downtown West Jefferson, with easy access to all of the High Country. Easy and short walk to the park, library, restaurants or the many shopping establishments in town such as Ashe Cheese Factory, local breweries and cafes. Come stay with us in July and walk to the Christmas in July festival. ASU in Boone is about a 30 minute drive away. The ski slopes are approximately 40-50 minutes from West Jefferson.

Inside, you'll find a cozy living space with a queen bed and three twin bunk style beds. The bathroom has a beautiful pebble floor shower with frameless glass door. The full-sized laundry is next to the shower. In the living area, there is comfortable seating and a Roku TV, ready for guests to log in with their favorite apps. Free highspeed WIFI. There is a mini-split with heat and AC.

The kitchen has most everything you'll need, with a K-Cup maker to start the day right, gorgeous quartzite counters and stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher. The dining table can set up to 5 guests. All bed and bathroom linens are provided along with extra towels to use with the hot tub.

Outside, the tiny home is on a shared fenced lot with a nearby home (not a full time home) in front. Relax in the private hot tub or use the propane grill and large smoker/charcoal grill to prepare favorite meals to share. The custom Stonehenge-style fire pit (wood not provided) is the perfect place to gather on a cool, mountain evening! This outdoor space is made even better with string lights and seating throughout.

Touch of Grey is our second river front mountain cabin. Enjoy beautiful river views in a quiet natural setting where you can enjoy activities in the slow-moving water of the South Fork New River, watch the wildlife from the rockers on the deck. About 5 minute drive to Blue Ridge Parkway and 10 minutes to downtown West Jefferson for shopping and dining. Great hiking trails abound.

Single level living in this cozy, riverfront cabin. The living room offers leather furnishings, a wood stove, and mounted flat screen TV with YouTube TV and streaming abilities. The kitchen has granite counters, stainless appliances, and a Keurig for that first cup of the day. Two barstools are at the counter, with 2 additional chairs in the bedrooms if there is a full house. A full size washer and dryer set are tucked in the closet for easy access.

Although the home offers single level living, there are 11 steps from parking area down to the home, and additional stairs to access the river. You should not plan on using this space if your mobility is limited.

- This home allows up to 2 mature, well-trained dogs with an additional pet rent of $25 per pet per night plus tax. Pets other than dogs are not permitted.
- Firewood for the wood stove may be added by reaching out to us more than a week in advance. You receive two wrapped bundles and a fire starter for $25/night.
- Guests may wish to bring along a bluetooth speaker for music.
- The neighborhood road is gravel and is on a slope. You should have no trouble driving in standard car if you are familiar with gravel; otherwise, please bring 4WD or AWD. If there is snow or ice on the ground 4 wheel drive would be required. Motorcycles may not travel well on the loose gravel road.
- 4WD/AWD and/or chains recommended during winter (Nov-March) for all homes. Travelers visiting during the winter months where inclement weather may be possible should come prepared with an AWD or 4WD vehicle, and chains may also be required if it snows. No refunds, allowances, or date changes will be given to travelers who are not prepared with the proper vehicle, as outlined in the Rental Agreement.

Your comfortable suite awaits! Enjoy the peaceful space and feel like you're away from it all, yet just a 10 minute drive from downtown West Jefferson and a 35 minute drive to Boone.

Have coffee on your private covered porch, roast marshmallows over a fire, gaze at the night stars, head into West Jefferson or Boone for dinner or shopping, hike on one of the many nearby trails, and explore the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There are multiple buildings on the property including other airbnb units and a barn.

We offer 3 rental spaces at Soul Fire Camp and Cabins and can sleep 8-10 total guests, so this may be the perfect location for your friends trip, retreat, or family reunion!

Guests are welcome to enjoy the community areas including the fire pit (weather permitting) and wooded areas for walking and hanging hammocks.

The HVAC unit supplies the whole house. We keep the house around 66 to 68 in winter and 70-72 in summer.

Your suite is equipped with mini fridge, 4 cup drip coffee maker (and coffee), microwave, wifi, TV with Roku, and two beds - a queen and a full. The space can sleep up to 3 guests.

Please note there is not a full kitchen/cooking facilities in the suite.

The laundry is outside of the suite but please let us know if you need to use it.

The Rudy cabin has an indoor eating space as well as an 8ft carpeted loft for sleeping. It's great for the kiddos! Bring your cot or air mattress for main floor sleeping and open the windows and fall asleep to the sound of our creek. We are located 1 mile from the BRP & New River.
Separate bath houses for singles, family/handicap bath house offers more space and family privacy. Get cozy and settle into this rustic space.
