Chalet Pic Rouge is a traditional Alpine chalet rental in a quiet and scenic site at the foot of Mt. Blanc in the Chamonix Valley. Located in the resort town of Les Houches, the chalet is an hour's drive from Geneva Airport, a three-minute walk from the Le Tourchet beginners' ski lift and 1.2 km from Bellevue cable car and the main Les Houches ski area.

The chalet is a five-minute walk from shops, restaurants and ski rental. It is the end chalet in a terrace of 4 adjoining properties with private parking. It is away from the main road in a peaceful area, where local families live year round. It offers a traditional Savoyarde atmosphere with access to 5 top ski areas in winter and hundreds of hiking & biking trails in summer.

CHALET DETAILS:
The chalet can accommodate 6 guests but in winter 4 or 5 is a more comfortable number. In summer the veranda offers extra outdoor dining and seating space.
Guests bring their own bed linen and towels but if you would like to hire them the price is £20 for the double bed and £15 for each single bed. Please ask when you make your reservation. Y

GROUND FLOOR:
The ground floor has a lounge / dining room, a separate kitchen and a bedroom with standard double bed and bathroom with shower and wc.

LOFT:
The loft space is under the eaves with a sloping roof and a very low ceiling. There is one bedroom with 2 single beds (+ folding bed) and a further 2 single beds on the mezzanine. Note the sloping loft ceiling height is a maximum 166 cm (5ft 4ins) - this is ok for children but not really comfortable for adults, who must stoop upstairs. Access to the upper floor is by a spiral staircase and the mezzanine sleeping area has a balcony open to the lounge. There is a separate bathroom with small bath tub and wc.

CHALET EQUIPMENT
All beds have duvets and pillows. The house is generously equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, TV (only for use with dvd player), free wifi and Bose Soundtouch speaker to connect your own music from your phone or tablet.

The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of quality pans, plates, bowls, glassware and cooking utensils. It has an under the counter fridge with freezer compartment, a dishwasher, microwave, liquidiser, electric mixer, stove-top expresso machine, French press coffee maker, toaster, electric kettle, fondue set and raclette set.

The lounge has a dining table seating 6, a comfortable 3-seater corner sofa and a couple of soft chairs. Books, maps and a selection of DVDs are for guests' use. There are also a few games for children and adults.

GARDEN
The fenced and gated private garden has shrubs, flower beds and tubs and is mostly laid to gravel. There is outdoor seating and dining and in summer the chalet gets sun during the morning, afternoon and evening. The timber-decked veranda gets morning sun and fabulous sunset mountain views and there is a seating area at the front of the house to enjoy the evening sun.

The chalet is perfect for couples and families. Guests appreciate the convenience of private parking, the beautiful garden and views, as well as proximity to local attractions, hiking trails, ski slopes, shops and other local amenities.

GETTING THERE & GETTING AROUND
A car is useful, especially for families with young children, but not essential as all guests have free use of the Chamonix Valley buses and trains. Several companies offer door-to-door transfers from Geneva Airport - please ask for details. Between 1st November and 31st March by law all vehicles must carry snow chains to fit the two driving wheels when needed or be fitted with winter snow tyres on all four wheels.

LES HOUCHES
Les Houches is an attractive town with traditional architecture and has two well-stocked supermarkets (10 minutes walk away), an organic food shop, bakery, bank, post office, tourist office, chemist, cycle hire and launderette and there are numerous ski and snowboard shops and rental outlets - the nearest is 150 m from the chalet. There are bars, including the Solerey brew-pub 5 minutes walk from the chalet, restaurants and take-away pizzas. An evening bus runs in the winter high season between Les Houches and Chamonix for more choice of night life.

THE SKIING
The Chamonix Valley offers skiing and snowboarding for all levels from beginner to expert. Les Houches has 60 km of pistes rising to 1969 m, and is especially appreciated for its long tree-lined runs, snowpark and World Cup black run, La Verte. The Le Tourchet beginners' slopes are 3 minutes walk from the chalet (open high season only) while the Bellevue cable car is 1.2 km, but easily accessed on the free ski bus, which stops at the bottom of the Le Tourchet lift. The Prarion gondola is a little further on, while the Brevent and Aiguille du Midi cable cars are a 15 minute drive or bus ride away. Beyond Chamonix, the Flegère and La Balme slopes offer fabulously scenic above the tree-line runs, while the Grands Montets is a high-altitude snow-haven where off-piste legends are made. Further away you'll find the resorts of St. Gervais, Les Contamines, Megève, Verbier and through the Mont Blanc tunnel you have access to Courmayeur in Italy. A ski hire shop is a 5 minute walk from the chalet.

SUMMER HOLIDAYS
In summer the Chamonix Valley is famous for mountaineering, hiking, adventure sports and family activities. Walkers will find many trails starting from Les Houches, including the famous Tour du Mont Blanc trail. Several walks start from near the chalet but by using the free buses and trains, you have access to all the amazing hiking terrain of the Chamonix Valley and beyond. With its panoramic views of Mt. Blanc, the Grand Balcon Sud is a favourite. From June to September, the ski lifts take you up to 2000 metres and higher in a matter of minutes, from where you can contour around the flank of the mountains to get the best of the views with minimum effort! Mountain bikers have plenty of choice of route and the chalet offers the convenience of a large veranda for parking bikes undercover. With a top location at the foot of Mont Blanc Les Houches also appeals to those content to gaze up at the shimmering glaciers and jagged peaks. With its sunny garden, great views and veranda with comfortable seating, Chalet Pic Rouge is perfect for relaxing.

- "This was our third time in Les Houches, and Cathy's house, the Pic Rouge, was a great place to stay. It is not very large, but extremely well organised and equipped with absolutely everything you might need. Also, good planning has gone into making life easy for lodgers - if I at times wondered how things worked (stove, recycling, etc), I would find instructions either in an instruction folder or close to the appliance (both in English and French) telling me exactly how to proceed. After many years' experience with (at times not very pedagogical) holiday accommodation, this was absolutely splendid. A 5-minute walk away lie Les Houches boulangerie and Carrefour for supplies. Another source of supplies was Cathy's generous offer to help ourselves to vegetables, berries and herbs from her little garden, which we gratefully did. We also played tennis, there are courts in Les Houches at the far end of the village, and if you want to go swimming, Lac du Passy is a short drive away. We had a splendid week in Pic Rouge, and would love to come back."

Enjoy a relaxing time or a sporty week in our spacious, comfortable chalet conveniently located in the centre of Les Houches - a small village at the foot of Mont Blanc. The chalet is very spacious, which makes it comfortable for up to 10 people, and an additional 2 people on a sofa bed, perfect for both groups of friends or families, with 4 bedrooms (3 of which have either a large double bed or two single beds and 1 room which has a double bed plus 2 single beds – ideal for children or a family).

The lounge and dining area are open plan with large patio doors into the garden.

A second smaller lounge area on the mezzanine level has a SMART TV (with French channels, Netflix and Prime) and a DVD player.

Fast Fibre Wifi is installed if you need to do a little remote working or download a movie.

The Kitchen has recently been renovated. It is clean and bright and has plenty of space for storage, as well as a large fridge, there is also a second fridge/freezer available for use. The kitchen is fully equipped and has everything that you may need for your dining experience, including fondue and raclette sets.

There are 2 family bathrooms with showers over the bath and an en-suite shower room in the larger bedroom.

Downstairs is a dressing room for ski boots and ski-wear/bike-wear and storage, with it’s own handy, external entrance. On this level there is an extra toilet and you will also find a large washer/dryer machine. A ski locker is located just outside the house.

There is a front garden facing the Mont Blanc massif and a rear garden below, great spaces for making snowmen and playing in the snow.

GUEST ACCESS:
Access to the chalet is by a private path and external stairs just off from the main road. 2 internal parking spaces are provided just across the road.

The chalet is conveniently located in the centre of the village, but being set back from the main road, it is still private and quiet.

Just a stone's throw away is a selection of French and English restaurants, a bank and cash machine, a post office, the tourist office, a local museum and supermarket.

Bed linen and towels are not provided. If you cannot bring your own linen and towels we can organise them to be hired at a cost of 30€ per person which you can pay on arrival. You just need to tell us what you need a few weeks beforehand.

Very good use of volumes. The ground floor is served by an entrance, a garage, a laundry room. Christian looked after us, he is very friendly and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. At the foot of Mont Blanc, quiet, lower part of a chalet composed of a spacious bedroom and a large living room, the accommodation is completely independent with an equipped garden area available.
At the edge of ski slopes and hiking trails, in winter you can leave and return on skis in the garden, and in summer you are on the GR5. Located on the heights of Les Houches, the place is close to bus stops for the village or Chamonix-Mont-Blanc.
15 min. from Chamonix by car.

The space
The accommodation is warm and personalized, it consists of a large bedroom with a double bed and plenty of storage.
I can put a single mattress on the floor in the bedroom, on request.

You can therefore arrive with little luggage, especially since, as you will see in the photos of the listing, there is a path to climb about 150 m, by car in reverse... Difficult or even impossible in winter. The climb is on foot, for a sports holiday! but arrival by ski in the garden.

Having the minimum in terms of equipment (bathroom, rooms, radio, kitchen) with a autentic 60's decoration, this chalet is the ideal for young sportsmen not looking for confortable holiday in front of the chimney, but more running, climbing, biking, skiing, surfing, etc. the whole day.

Our Chamonix Valley chalet offers skiers, hikers and travellers a relaxing stay in Les Houches at the foot of Mt Blanc. Close to shops and buses, it has a lovely garden, parking and veranda with stunning views. The chalet is for couples and families - note that the upstairs has a very low ceiling - ok for children but adults must stoop. Double en suite bedroom is downstairs. Bed linen and towels: €25 (double bed) €18 (single bed) or bring your own. Optional end of stay clean: €60.

The space
THE LOCATION
The chalet is sited in a quiet residential area of La Griaz in Les Houches, at an altitude of 1000m. People live around here all year round and there are orchards and flower meadows around their homes. The 4810m summit of Mont Blanc towers above the town, facing the forested 2285m peak Aiguillette des Houches on the north side of the valley.

THE CHALET
The self-contained chalet is the end house in a row of four adjoining homes, with their own parking area. The accommodation is on two levels and the total floor space is 50 square metres. The accommodation is compact but good use is made of the available space. On the ground floor there is a lounge / dining room with comfortable seating and a dining table for six people. There is a bluetooth speaker to connect your own music to, a DVD blueray player and free wifi. The kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher, hob, full-size oven, fridge with a good freezer compartment and microwave. There are a toaster, kettle, teapot, cafetière, a stove-top expresso maker, fondue set and raclette set. On the ground floor you'll find the main bedroom with a standard double bed and en-suite bathroom with wc, shower and basin. From the lounge a steep wooden spiral staircase leads to the mezzanine, where there are two single beds. Note that the mezzanine is open to the lounge so people sleeping there do not have privacy. From the mezzanine you access the second bedroom, which has two single beds. There is a second bathroom upstairs with wc, basin, a small bathtub and a washing machine. All sleeping spaces have natural light and there are no bunk beds. There are beds for six people but please note that four of these are in the loft on the second floor, which has a sloping roof and low ceiling throughout - maximum height 1.65m or 5ft 4in. Because of the the low ceiling the upstairs space is best suited to children - adults will need to stoop. In the chalet you will find many useful things to help you enjoy your stay: maps of the local area with hiking routes; guide books on the local area including walking guides; field guides on Alpine flowers, birds and mammals; a selection of DVDs.

OUTSIDE SPACE
The front of the chalet faces north and here you will find a nice garden area, enclosed by a gate and flowers and shrubs along the boundary fence. There is seating to enjoy the evening sun. A veranda runs along the east side of the house and there is a dining table for 6 people and comfortable garden chairs. This is a great spot for breakfast in the morning sunshine, while in the evenings you get sunset views of the mountains. At the back of the chalet is a sunny south-facing garden area with shrubs and a picnic table and charcoal barbecue.

Guest access
When you stay at the chalet you will be the only guests and you will have exclusive use of the whole house.

Other things to note
Well behaved dogs are welcome but we can't accept cats. If you are bringing a dog, please ensure you bring their bedding and bowls and please don't let them sleep on the sofa or beds. The chalet is non-smoking.

Duvets and pillows are included but guests bring their own bed linen (duvet cover, bottom sheet and pillow cases) and towels. If you prefer, I can supply bed linen and bath towels - the price for this is €25 for a double bed and €18 for a single bed for your total stay (not per night). Please inform me when you make your reservation.

On departure, please return all furniture to original position and leave the chalet clean ' As Found '. If you wish to arrange for an end of stay clean to be included the cost for this is €60. Please ask when you make your reservation.

The chalet is located in the town Les Houches, a ski resort in the Chamonix Valley. The chalet was built in the 90’s on a land of 1000 m², and composed of three levels. Land adjoining kind of roads, terrace and garden.
Room Les Granges has 3 single beds. You can rent this room or combine with other rooms of our chalet.

The space
There is a wellness area with sauna where our guests can relax and enjoy the warmth after skiing or mountain climbing. Towels and bathrobes are always here for our guests.

During your stay
A person working for the owners will ensure the entrances and exits. It will take stock with the holidaymakers. Linens are provided for minimum 4 day stays. Bath towels (one for person for the entire duration of the stay), bathrobes will be available to everyone. Wood is left . Please restock if you use the fireplace.
