It's clear that the owners take pride in their place, and we would definitely stay here again! Note: there is no person on-site to deal with, but they were very responsive to texts. They also offer housekeeping upon request, so we always had what we needed. Finally, the location is right near the edge of Olympic National Park, so it's very convenient to travel into the Lake Crescent or Elwha Valley areas, and it saves about 20 minutes on a drive to Rialto Beach or beyond compared to staying in Port Angeles proper. BUT, the city is only 20 minutes away so it's not hard to find "civilization" if needs must. Overall, definitely a great place and we recommend it!"

Location is absolutely perfect but be ready to wrestle your luggage up a long flight of narrow steps (not an issue if you don’t pack your entire closet like we do) and take a lot of steps or zig zag ramp to get back to the property from the main district. Come enjoy the Sun House at Freshwater Bay. Situated oceanfront in Washington’s most beautiful no-bank beach community, the Sun House is the perfect place to unwind from city life. Listen to ocean swell endlessly grooming the river rock and sand beach from your second story accommodation. Taste the salt air, and let your stress melt away.

Look west, out to the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Pacific Ocean, then let your eyes follow the distant shore of Vancouver Island, past Victoria, and the San Juan Islands, to the marvelous peaks of the North Cascades. In summer, the sun streaks across the sky, warming the beach and illuminating the offshore commercial shipping traffic, before finally setting over the glistening ocean horizon.

It’s a short stroll down the beach to the mouth of the Elwha River. Here Coho and Chinook salmon offer the viewer and angler seasonal delight. With the rhythmic cycle of the salmon, come bald eagles, a plethora of seabirds, and river otters. In winter, enjoy downhill and Nordic skiing at Hurricane Ridge. When the summer rolls around, enjoy thousands of miles of hiking routes through protected wilderness, or simply drop by Lake Crescent for a swim in perhaps the most beautiful lake in the continental United States.

Approach the property via Place Road, as it switches back past the mouth of the Elwha River, narrowing, then snaking amongst the storm swept cedars. Weave past a handful of beach houses to your private getaway. You will know you found paradise the second you arrive.

The Sun House is 1196 square feet of beachfront fun. It encompasses the top half of the house, as the bottom half is a separate space and not included in the rental. Completed in 2005, the new construction features massive weather pane windows, vaulted ceilings, hardwood countertops, and a gorgeous river rock gas fireplace. Every room in the house has unstoppable views out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca and 100 feet of low bank frontage. In the evenings, enjoy a glass of wine on the huge hardwood deck, or set out a romantic dinner of fresh crab.

Please note: Renters must be comfortable with a tall staircase to enjoy this property, but the view is worth the climb.
