The Slaaphuys has a story and was born as a milk shop in 1920, transformed into a Bed & Sauna in 2024. The layout was designed by Alkmaar designer Ro Smit, who created a thoughtful design with an open and clever layout featuring an outdoor sauna.

The front room originally belonged to the milk shop, and it is special that the original Alkmaar tiles on the wall have been preserved. The stained glass, the two interior doors, and the indoor window also date back to the original 1920 construction.

The Slaaphuys has its own entrance and is fully equipped. The front room, bedroom, and bathroom are individually heated by infrared panels, which work naturally like the sun, promoting health and supporting the immune system. The space also comes with yoga supplies for extra relaxation.

The bed and sauna form the heart of the house. In our king-size bed with a firm natural mattress and down bedding in washed linen, you will enjoy a wonderful sleep experience. My appartement is only 5 minutes by bike to the cosy city centre of alkmaar.
Where every friday (in season 10 o’clock till 13 o’clock april-september) the cheesemarket is on the waaghplein ( Central squere)
And every saturday there is a market with local produce from flowers to cheese and clothes. It is not big however always very buzzy

A cosy, light, raw, modern industrial apartment. It’s a stone throw away from the vibrant Cheesemarket and the bay window will provide you of an amazing view towards the medieval canals and the ‘Waag’ building, a national historic monument that’s located on Waagplein. Where you will also find the best local bars and restaurants. It’s close to several boutiques, restaurants and cafes can be found in the immediate vicinity.

The space
Well, what about the house… It’s a corner apartment that is bathed in natural light. The apartment has all the modern amenities one would need and is perfectly located right in the centre of historic Alkmaar. Ideally located along the busiest canal of Alkmaar. The bay window is a good spot for relaxation with an amazing view on the national historic monument the ‘Waag’.

Upon entrance, you'll find an authentic white stairway to the 1st floor where you will find the apartment. There is a living room and one bedroom. In the livingroom there is a large sofa with chaise longue. The bathroom is fully tiled with toilet, sink and shower and the kitchenette is fully equipped.

Guest access
You'll have the whole space to yourself. Please note that some of the cabinet doors are locked.

Kindly note that we only allow guests who are listed on the reservation access to the apartment. Should you wish to add any name/s, kindly inform us in advance. Please note that we have a camera monitoring the front door and the hallway of the apartment building.

Other things to note
The bed and breakfast is just a small hobby, and as such 24 hour service is not available. We would therefore ask all guests to kindly inform us of their expected time of arrival, at least 24 hours prior to arrival. If you’re catching a late flight or just want to squeeze out those last hours of rest, you can make your stay last longer with a optional late checkout until 7:00 pm. If you’re planning to come earlier then 4 pm you can book a early check-in. You can also leave your suitcases downstairs in the hallway before check-in time. If you would like to book a early check-in or a late check-out, or if you want to arrange a early baggage drop-off we kindly ask you to inform us at least 24 hours in advance.

The space
Great house with private entrance, perfect location in the middle of the city, but quiet and green located next to a park. The cottage has a spacious private garden. Inside, it is cozy and luxuriously furnished and equipped with every comfort. The bedroom adjoins the garden and is romantically lit in the evening. Carefree enjoyment with hotel service. The bed is freshly made and there are plenty of towels ready for you. Blankets are ready by the sofa for an evening of Netflix. Food can be ordered via thuisbezorgd.nl so you wouldn't have to leave the house, but there are several fantastic restaurants nearby. Fresh croissants can be picked up at AC de Boer on the corner (also open on Sunday morning!)

The space
You're welcome in the apartment on the second floor of our house.

Comfortable room at Alkmaar station. Easy train connection to Amsterdam 37 minutes. Shared kitchen and bathroom with 1 other room. Lots of nice dining options nearby as well as a supermarket. 10 minutes walk to the city center of Alkmaar. 40 minutes by bike to the beach.

I live on the ground floor so if I am at home you can always visit me if you have any questions.

Other things to note
Finding a parking spot in the street is difficult and expensive. Free parking between 9 pm and 9 am. Close to Zijperstraat is a low cost parking for €3,70/24h. If you want to go to Amsterdam it is best to take the train. Parking in Amsterdam is outrageously expensive and complicated.

ALKMAAR LODGE, feel at home.

Alkmaar Lodge is a luxurious and recently renovated apartment and is fully equipped. Everyone says it looks exactly like the pictures and they feel right at home. The apartment is on the ground floor and has its own entrance and free parking. The apartment also has a cozy garden where you can have breakfast outside under the veranda or relax after a beautiful day.

The space
Layout Alkmaar Lodge:
Hall, living / bedroom with a double Hotel Boxspring, fully equipped kitchen, separate private toilet, bathroom with vanity unit, hair dryer and magnifying mirror.

Living area:
Two-seater sofa, armchair, coffee tables, Smart TV with among other things NetFlix and YouTube.

Kitchen:
Round dining table (laptop-friendly), refrigerator, gas hob, convection oven, microwave, mini dishwasher, kettle, coffee maker (filter and Senseo), kitchen utensils, juicer, sandwich maker.
Includes: culinary herbs.

Garden:
You enter the private garden through the 2 double French doors. The garden has two luxurious lounge chairs, a dining table with 2 chairs and a parasol.

You will receive a personal message asking what the expected arrival time will be.
Usually I am there to receive guests. Otherwise, access to the apartment can be granted via a key box. The code will be communicated before arrival.
If you have any questions, I can be reached by phone until 9 p.m. (24/7 for emergencies).
